View 6 Replies View RelatedI was playing Civilizations V on my computer when I wanted to load a savegame. While loading the savegame, Civilizations stopped responding, so I waited a little for the window to respond and come back to its normal state. After waiting for an unusually long time (about 2 or 3 minutes), I decided to whip up the task manager, but I couldn't do that either. After I realized my computer was completely frozen, I pressed the restart button on my computer.
Things went by as usual-the bootup screen and all that good stuff. After the loading screen (with the windows logo and the circling dots) went by normally, the screen blacked out as usual (to transition into the lock screen), but then it stayed like that. I thought there was some trivial, technical error, so I restarted again, but same thing, it was stuck after the loading screen.
The specifications of my gaming computer are:
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GPU
8GB RAM
3.7GHz Processor Speed
I can't exactly check all of the specs because I'm not able to login. If you can tell me how to access the specs from somewhere like the BIOS Screen or use command prompt to find this.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I've done Automatic Repair many times, and have done the chkdsk /f command in the command prompt, but I get a message saying that my disk is write-protected.
I pressed shutdown and install updates. The computer has since been unable to restart. It keeps giving the message that it is repairing the error and going to restart. Which is the message it keeps giving every time it restarts.
I recovered as much as I can by loading Ubuntu through a USB drive. I do not want to send the laptop back to the manufacturer to reinstall Windows because the process is going to take far too long and I really need my laptop.
Is there any way I can either recover the system or format and reinstall Windows? No recovery cd was given or USB produced before the system
I bought a new Toshiba i5 laptop a month ago with Windows 8. The Store worked just fine until about two weeks ago. The apps I have downloaded work but now the store will not load. I get a green screen and the spinning wheel of death (loading). No error message, just constant spinning and the Store logo.
I have ran the app troubleshooter.
I have made sure updates are automatic and up to date.
I have cleared the Store cache.
When I ran the app troubleshooter it took me to a device troubleshooter. It comes up with messages that say:
"hardware changes might not have been detected" "display adapter drivers might be out of date" "windows store configuration might be damaged".
I cannot find anything in my device manager that has the yellow triangle next to it.
yesterday my laptop turned off suddenly and since then, everytime I turn it on it turns off before windows loading.I isn't hard drive issue cause I checked it and it works fine on other pc.I even tried to boot from cd but again it turns off.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I launch file explorer in Windows 8.1 A Green Bar appears in the address bar and moves from left to right. Depending upon which folder I am in and whether or not I am accessing another disk drive this green bar moves fast or slow. When I am accessing a network drive it moves VERY slow and I have to wait 30 seconds to see the contents of the drive. How do I turn this feature off? Are there other ways of speeding up windows explorer loading?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo My apps start but then they just spin for hours and nothing else happens. I have pretty much narrowed it down to norton.
Heres how:
I backed up my pc. I then refreshed it, then installed all windows updates etc, and the apps were working. I installed norton and boom the apps stopped after system restart.
I really need norton so I was wondering how can I fix the settings in norton to work with the apps??
After uninstalling norton the problem keeps happening. I would have to restore to before I had. Norton.
I had a dual boot system (8/ubuntu 10.12) but my win8 got messed up. Wanted to do a fresh install from my recovery usb (I made the day I got the computer) but it won't load in UEFI mode. In CMS mode the recovery stops and tells me to go into UEFI. The error given is "disk error. gpt7 cannot be found"
After days of trying fixes I tried to do a format and clean install. Still the same problem.
If I enter through UEFI shell, I can go into the USB and start the bootx64.uefi, but I get the error once again. I can use a windows 7 recovery disk (not a full install though) to format my drive to gpt and create the partitions, but it doen't effect the USB not working. (Yes I checked it for being faulty already).
When I boot up my windows 8 pc it gets stuck on the alienware loading screen. It finishes loading but gets stuck. The page is un·responsible - so that means i can't use F2 or F12.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWeb pages freeze some of the time while loading. I have to use "refresh" in order to get the page to load totally. This freeze problem only occurs while I am on the internet and does not take place when I am running programs other than on the internet. It happens when using either IE or Chrome.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have found little issue, that when i run Windows Explorer and browse folders, it takes very long time to open folder content, about 10 sec. (see picture). That's just when i power on computer or restart, after first slow loading folders, then works fine.
I found that on both disks, SSD and HDD. I have Windows 8.1 installed, clean install.
I didn't notice that on my earlier setups. My hardware configuration didn't change.
This is any browser; Opera , IE, Chrome....all updated, Adobe Reader updated today, Chrome updated to 36 today...
PDFs that are supposed to be emailed, via a button on a webpage, come to me unopenable, and if downloaded, are unable to be loaded due to some format issue.
I tested the same functions on a Win XP laptop, with same Chrome and Adobe Reader version. It worked fine, on the same network and ISP.
WHAT is it about 8.1 that precludes anything from getting PDFs down in one readable piece?
I don't use WMP, but decided to give it a try as part of a test about some audio cutout and freeze problems with foobar player being discussed in a General Support thread and elsewhere. After adding the ASIO plugin from SourcForge and adjusting settings, I removed the two default locations from the library and added my own music folder. WMP then started to load mine, but after three or four items, the program crashed. On every reopening, it starts to load more of mine, then crashes again within a few seconds.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFrom the desktop I click on the IE in the taskbar box and it loads and loads then says "this page can NOT be displayed" I then rebooted, and from the start screen I click on the e tile for IE and Bing comes up perfect with bookmarks, and all the frills. I then closed it and tried to get back to Bing by clicking on the IE box in taskbar on the desktop and nothing "this page can NOT be displayed" again. I then went to the start screen clicked on the Bing tile and it loads, but no bookmarks or frills. I then came to this site from there. The screenshot will NOT work in the "this page cannot be displayed" page. Google works fine.
I installed the MS updates yesterday, that's all I have done to this computer. It WILL take a screenshot of the desktop, and it WILL take a screenshot when I am in Google.

When an application lets me browse a folder to find a file, the window it opens always displays files in name order even though the sort by date column is set in Explorer. Eventually (ofter after two minutes!) the display rearranges itself into date order. Related is this:
Just using Windows and changing drives in Explorer there is a considerable lag either before the folder opens, or the folder opens empty and a progress bar c r a w l s along the address bar.
I have five hard drives and many folders have have sub folders with many files in each. So I know there are a lot of files to manage. But it seems as if Windows isn't prefetching or caching or something and is starting from scratch every time. Once windows has opened a folder, surely it should remember, even after a power-off?
I have an inquiry about the Windows 8 tskmgr loading time. Whenever I press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, it takes AGES to pop up.Usually between 10 and 20 seconds. This happens after every boot and is very frustrating. What is the cause of this and is there a solution?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy internet has been playing up recently, Some websites don't load or some load without all content, such as a cached version of the site.
So I've researched around and I've tried the following to resolve it:
Flushed DNS
Cleared browser history
Tried different browsers
Tried to use OpenDNS and the google one
Connecting via cable to the router
System File checker
Disabled firewall and antivirus
But still hasn't solved the problem.
Today, I restart my PC and now it refuses to load Windows. I have changed nothing recently, neither in BIOS nor software. It was a simple, routine restart and it hasn't worked since. I even tried re-imaging my primary drive from 1 month ago (after trying more recent images) and I still have the issue. In BIOS, all drives are recognized, bootable discs work fine. I tried resetting the BIOS just in case to no avail. Also tried disconnecting all USB devices, no good. I can't even get Linux to load, so I am suspecting my SSD might be shot--but it shows fine in BIOS. I don't mind replacing the drive, but I want to be more certain that is the issue before I spend the money. Or would this possibly be a motherboard issue?
