I just bought my first computer (24 years old lol) and I have hp. I've had it for a few months and lately when I click to open chrome it won't load, then it starts not loading and program I try and open including control at delete.

I have Peerblock to start up with the computer (it has an icon set inside the Startup folder by me), yet that program never runs; I have to click that listing inside the Startup folder manually for it to start. I have two other programs in there to start with the computer, and the both run the way they're supposed to. Why is this program procrastinating to start up with the computer?

View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently my mom visited a website that tricked her. She downloaded and installed some stuff she didn't need. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff she installed.
Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features is not showing all installed programs. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letter M. 14 programs are listed. See picture. Start Menu -> All Programs -> I suspect some programs are missing. I have a Win 7 style Start menu because I am using IObit's Start Menu 8 program. Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools was empty. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.
I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date, but that didn't work. In the process of trying to do that I discovered that BitDefender Internet Security 2014 doesn't get along with Windows 8.1's System Restore feature. I uninstalled BitDefender and successfully went back to an earlier date but still had the same problems with missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues: missing programs in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu.
I am having a strange issue with my Windows 8.1 where every time I click on an app aside from store (games, project spark, Despicable Me etc) it comes up for 3-5 seconds before minimizing with the icons on the desktop. I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit Professional, an Nvidia Geforce GT545 with 3GB VRAM, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Core I7 3.2GHZ quad core processor and Intel HD Integrated Audio.

I have to install windows 8.1 on my work laptop and I need to have someone from my work add a user to our domain. What would happen if I installed windows 8 and all the programs that I use before the user was added to the domain. Will this user have access to all the programs that were installed or would I potentially need to perform a hack or re-install the programs on that account?

Heres how:
I backed up my pc. I then refreshed it, then installed all windows updates etc, and the apps were working. I installed norton and boom the apps stopped after system restart.
I really need norton so I was wondering how can I fix the settings in norton to work with the apps??
After uninstalling norton the problem keeps happening. I would have to restore to before I had. Norton.

If I Refresh my pc, and find the folder Windows. Old, can I get the Office program out of it or do I have to download from a site and install again?
Obviously I don't know what is in the folder nor what it allows you to retrieve . I do know that when done with it you can delete it.
I can retrieve some of the programs and apps that refresh removes and that is not hard to do. Perhaps I just open the folder, locate the program, and copy and paste it or click 'reinstall'.
I have the new laptop with Windows 8.Is there any way you can change the apps on the start menu to be programs so I can view them as windows on my Desktop? Like Skype and Video or Music. Because I don't really like having to change from app to app to app to desktop to do what I want.

These programs install with no errors but when I try to run them they won't open. These programs worked before so I know they're not the problem and they're all legit. I emailed the support people but haven't heard anything yet.
Ashampoo burning studio 12. The compact mode runs but the normal mode fails
Coffeecup HTML editor v12. I get an error when opening it and have to close the program.
Farstone Total Recovery Pro. When I try to run it nothing happens and it doesn't show in task manager.
p.s. I tried all the compatibility, run as administrator options etc. also ran sfc and got no errors

Because some folks I talk to these days are mixing "apps" and "programs" into the same bag, I want to clarify something ... per the above quote, if I
1) install 8.1 preview; then,
2) install a program (not an app from the app store), like Photoshop ...
Will I have to re-install that program once I update to 8.1 RTM? Or, are the re-installs associated only with apps downloaded from the store?
Where and how do you access your programs in windows 8. I have been looking all day, and found nothing, if you want to run the disc clean up, I can't find it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedYesterday I was watching a video on YouTube no problems when all of a sudden it shut down and didn't want to load back up, after clicking the shortcut on the desktop a dialogue window popped up saying that 'this program isn't in this location' (or something similar) and if I wanted to delete the shortcut. Thinking nothing much of it I rebooted my machine.
After rebooting, some of my tiles were missing and the rest of the tiles had a small black 'X' on the corner, I couldn't open any of my apps and searching for them resulted in the icon popping up in the charms bar but was unable to open them. Literally 20 seconds later all of the tiles disappeared, the charms bar stopped working and the whole screen looked completely blank.
One more reboot later and I have no tiles on the main start screen, no tiles when I swipe down to all apps, no search results for control panel or task manager, the charms bar works but all I can do is access my WiFi network, volume and screen or search.
The tablet is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2.

A few weeks ago, after using the computer for some time, (The problem doesn't start until a few hours later) my programs won't start up unless running as administrator. All programs. Including notepad. (not sure about cmd) I have not done a full scan on my computer because it estimates more than one day and the estimated time still extends.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBefore updating, a message was shown that updating will not delete any of my information or files but apps will be uninstalled. Upon restarting my laptop, my apps were uninstalled (and I just re-installed them) but my program files were also uninstalled. Yea, I can just install them all again but some program file that were uninstalled were my Microsoft Office that I paid for and the paid software that came preinstalled on my laptop (Like the webcam, movie editor, etc). I really need those software (especially office) but I do not want to pay for them. Would a system restore bring back those files? Is that the only way I can get those programs (and others) back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I had the original "user" in control panel that I used when getting my gateway laptop and I decided to make a new user with admin privileges for no apparent real reason and then I ended up removing the old user account.
Once I did this, a bunch of programs that I installed with my original user account stopped opening, so I uninstalled them and re installed them and they still aren't opening. They just sit in task manager and don't open - is there anything I can do to fix this or is my best bet to reformat [which I could do, but I have a lot of files and I don't have a backup external apart from online which would take a long time to back up with cause of uploading etc].

I'm running windows 8 x64 and when I open 'Programs and Features' to uninstall a program, the 'Uninstall' button that is usually next to the 'Organize' button is missing. Also when I try to right click on most programs and left click the 'Uninstall' option, I get the message "An error occurred while trying to uninstall X. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove X from the Programs and Features list?" However, those programs have not been uninstalled.
