I have used AppsDiagnostic.diagcab and it only shows that I have an outdated visual driver (I do not, I'm simply not using windows' own driver) and that I might have corrupted files (I already used chkdsk and nothing was picked up).

Open Metro And Desktop Apps At The Same Time?
Oct 27, 2012... without closing/minimize the metro app? When I'm working with Photoshop I always have my email open because of the meeting notes. The problem I'm having now is that everytime I focus back on Photoshop, the mail app closes/minimizes by itself. The same thing goes with Skype
I know that you can open that tiny multitasking window on the side, but it's just not efficient. Is there a way to remedy this?
Metro Apps Open By Default On Center Monitor?
Sep 15, 2014I'm having a little issue with my Screen Setup and I was wondering if there's a fix to that.
I recently upgraded from to Photoshop CC after seeing a YouTube Video with someone working on the same Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch I have using the newly introduced Experimental Touch features of PS CC.
Turns out it didn't worked THAT well on mine.
Panning, Zooming and Rotation in PS CC is totally screwed like the axis of them being totally off or outside my Screen and thus causing my Workspace to vanish off screen which is REALLY annoying.
Working with the Issue for a while I noticed that the issue could be related to me using multiple Monitors unlike the Video which only used one and the Cintiq with the Touch Interface NOT being either the center or rather the Main Monitor of the Setup.
Having the Cintiq not as the Main Monitor causes Photoshop CC to relocate the Rotational, Zoom and Move Axis to the Main Monitor and thus cause this agonizing behavior.With the Cintiq now set as the Main Monitor every Metro App I use ( including the Start Screen ) opens out of my normal Field of View.Is there a setting that allows me to keep the Cintiq ( 2 ) to be the Main Monitor because of Photoshop while having Metro Apps open by default on the Center Monitor ( 1 ) ?
I do know that hitting the Windows button in the Task bar will open the Start Screen on the screen it was hit and all Metro Apps opened from there will also open on the now active screen but working like this is kind of cumbersome as I prefer to use a Mouse button ( or the Keyboard Windows Key ) with the Windows Key assigned and there it just doesn't work like I want.

Apr 2, 2014Recently my mom visited a website that tricked her. She downloaded and installed some stuff she didn't need. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff she installed.
Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features is not showing all installed programs. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letter M. 14 programs are listed. See picture. Start Menu -> All Programs -> I suspect some programs are missing. I have a Win 7 style Start menu because I am using IObit's Start Menu 8 program. Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools was empty. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.
I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date, but that didn't work. In the process of trying to do that I discovered that BitDefender Internet Security 2014 doesn't get along with Windows 8.1's System Restore feature. I uninstalled BitDefender and successfully went back to an earlier date but still had the same problems with missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues: missing programs in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu.
Windows 8 Tiles / Programs Do Not Open Upon Clicking?
Feb 18, 2014I installed programs called vaultClient by SourceGear, Mumble (a chat client) on my machine, needed to do a reboot. After rebooting, the Start interface show up with all the tiles and what have you, but clicking into Desktop rendered nothing, clicking any of the program tiles, nothing. Going into Apps and trying to open programs, nothing.....I can't do anything but look at the Start interface, but when clicking on my machineName icon to Sign out, that works.

Jul 17, 2014Windows 8.1. I had an issue with the general user folder name, which was shown as "Alex_000". Although this was a cosmetic issue only, I wanted to change this to "Alex". I successfully managed this by changing about 50 entries in the registry (via regedit).
So fine so good. Now I found out that there are still some leftovers with "Alex_000" in the Windows system, although I have tried to find every bit and peace, where possible:
When I try to open "Add or Remove Programs" in the Metro surface, I get an error message:
Windows cannot find
'C:Usersalex_000...Classic_{a lot of weird chars}.settingscontent-ms'.
Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
Somewhere in the system, there must still be links with Alex_000 existing. I tried searching the registry, tried a simple search on C: disc - no success.
In other words: Everything works fine - except of starting the apps from the metro surface for "remove software", or "user accounts", and maybe some other system apps, which I haven´t discovered yet. If I do the same from the desktop, no problem - all these apps work well!
So where are the referring links for such system apps within the metro surface stored? Obviously not in the registry... How/where can i find these orphaned links for the said apps in Metro?
Open Browser And Programs Frozen To Taskbar In Windows 8
Jan 24, 2014My husband has an HP Envy desktop running Windows 8 with a new HP 23tm Touch Screen Monitor. For the last couple of weeks, sometimes when he lowers an open browser to the task bar, he can no longer bring it back up. It show the small preview and it is still open but it won't go enlarge. Right click, left click, close then open, it's just done. At first restarting the computer worked. He found that when it happens he can switch to a different browser and that will work. When he has a browser open on the desktop and tries to open another program it opens but stays frozen to the taskbar. Lower the browser and it still wont enlarge. This seems to happen when it goes into screen save mode. We ran all checks (drivers, disk, virus) and ran all updates.

Dec 30, 2012I've been having some major trouble with all of my programs. At first I thought it was just with my Adobe Creative suite, but then I noticed it was happening on my Office Suite. Then on firefox, IE, etc.
Every time I open up the window to save or open a file from a specific directory, the program crashes. Resetting my computer works for a while but after a few hours, it goes back to crashing all my programs. I'm getting very desperate as I have some looming deadlines and this is really affecting my work.
I've tried 'refreshing' my system and it says my drive is locked...
I've tried restoring a backup but get an error...
I've tried formatting my system and it says a partition is missing...

Make Programs Open In Monitor Previously Closed On?
Feb 20, 2013Is there a way to make Windows 8 remember what screen you closed a program on and open it in that window? Right now, I have most of the stuff I open pinned to the task bar. How it opens now is what ever monitor I click on the program in, it opens it in that monitor. I understand the logic on that, but I was wondering if there was a way to make programs always open on a specific monitor. I.e. I always have outlook on my monitor clear to the left, visual studio in the middle, and my browser on the right. Is there a way to force those programs to always open on that monitor, regardless of which task bar I click on?

Windows 8.1, 64 bit;
Asus RAIDR Express PCIe SSD;
Asus GT630-SL-2GD3-L GPU;
Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 Motherboard, BIOS version 0602, (the first version).
I have two monitors, a Dell u2412m which is plugged into the DVI socket on the GPU, and an iiyama XB2776QS which is connected to the DisplayPort socket on the motherboard. This was the only way I could find to get each monitor to use the maximum resolution it is capable of.
Whenever I open a program I have no idea on which monitor it will be displayed, sometimes a program will display in the iiyama, but the next time I open it I can see it on the Dell. I also find that if I switch the monitors off for a few hours, the next time I switch them on the programme might be displaying in a different monitor.
I am not sure if this is because I am not using the new, horrible, Metro style which Microsoft thought to introduce, or something else. I did try a piece of software called MurGeeMon, but this did not solve the problem.
Could it be because one of my monitors is connected to the GPU and the other to the MoBo?

Oct 20, 2013having installed and configured all the software I need, I felt almost ready and relieved to finally create a backup image of my system. However, I have just realised that most built-in Metro Apps have stopped working.
In detail, Weather, Maps, Mail, Skype, Calendar, Contact, Stocks (and probably few more) do not work, i.e., when I click-open them, there is the short animation in which the App symbol is magnified to full screen, and then immediately afterwards I am sent back to the Metro interface. However, the apps do still appear in the Metro Apps' taskbar on the left side of the screen. Re-Opening them from there leads gives the same result.
Very few apps work, like Skydrive, Photos and Store.
I can confirm that I neither had this issue with Windows 8 nor right after my Windows 8.1 installation, which is when I checked Metro apps for the last time.
What settings in the meantime have caused this disruption, I can only say that I have not done any real work with the computer since the fresh install but merely installed and configured everything to my specifications.
Just for the sake of ruling out some possible causes, I can confirm that: I have no third-party firewall or antivirus programs installed; that I have no nvidia or ATI/AMD graphics card, just the Intel HD 4000 onboard graphics; and that I use the most recent drivers everywhere.
I have already read Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter - Fix Apps in Windows 8 and gone through most of the points, except the refresh install, which I would like to avoid since this is a newly installed computer.
The following errors are reported in the application event log of Windows:
1) Event id 10: "Fehler beim Laden der Anwendungseinstellungen for Paket "Microsoft.BingMaps_8wekyb3d8bbwe". Fehlercode: 5" This is the original German message, translated to english this means:

May 23, 2014i'm running Windows 8 Home Premium.I'd like to increase my startup speeds, I already disabled as much as I can in Task Manager, msconfig, etc.In the Task Scheduler, it shows Metro Apps are taking CPU time at startup though. After much searching on the topic, I find very little about how to disable the Metro Apps from starting up. The main one I want to disable is "Mail, Calendar, People, and Messaging". I do not want to uninstall them, I just do not want them to do anything until I open them. It takes over 2 minutes of CPU time at startup for that one Metro App to fully load, and most of the time I never use it.
I have tried going into the Permissions of the App, and I disabled all of its Permissions to run in background of lock screen and everything. Still, it loads in Task Manager and takes CPU time.

Sep 12, 2013I have Office 2010 which came preinstalled on my Dell 8300 XPS. I have the key and have recovered the program in the past.
If I Refresh my pc, and find the folder Windows. Old, can I get the Office program out of it or do I have to download from a site and install again?
Obviously I don't know what is in the folder nor what it allows you to retrieve . I do know that when done with it you can delete it.
I can retrieve some of the programs and apps that refresh removes and that is not hard to do. Perhaps I just open the folder, locate the program, and copy and paste it or click 'reinstall'.

Jun 7, 2013I can't seem to open any off my apps from the start menu. When I open an app, the app closes back but is available at the sidewindow(?). It doesn't load or anything. When I click it, the app sort of minimizes to the sidewindow(?).
So I've been lurking around and one of the problems that I thought was happening to me is that I do not have the temporary internet files. C -> Users -> My Name -> AppData -> Local. I read that it should have a windows folder in the local folder and a temporary internet files in the windows folder.
I changed my local user to the microsoft account and then changed back to the local user using another username so that might affect these change in my pc.

Recently, whenever I restart my computer or shutdown->startup, I notice that startup programs (e.g the Logitech Application for my mouse, Google Drive sync etc) do not run unless I sign out and sign back in. I can constantly replicate this.
I'm not sure if this has to do with me disabling hibernation (I did this on day one of getting my notebook).
The problem with this situation is that I disable my touchpad because I have a wireless mouse, but on occasions where I don't have a mouse available, I can press the Asus instant-on button and I have it set to toggle the touchpad on/off function. Because the startup services aren't loading, I'm unable to use that button now and I'm stuck using my keyboard to try to manually turn it on.

People App Opens then Crashes to Desktop
I have a new Dell laptop running Windows 8.1 Core Edition. After only a week I found most of the apps would crash to the Desktop on opening. I thought I had solved the problem by creating a new user account and reinstalling the apps but that only worked for a week before the same problem reappeared.
This is what I have discovered to date:
Initially most apps crashed on openingReinstalling the apps made many of them work but there are still some issues e.g. selecting Maps within Bing weather causes the app to crashThe apps work fine in a new user account or in other local accounts I have not used much to dateNone of the steps recommended in Apps and Tiles Not Working or Responding: Fix in Windows 8 solves the problemI've spent an hour with Microsoft Support who have found no obvious problem and have escalated the problem to the next tier
The problem appears to be due to access rights and priveliges in user accounts since the apps work in other accounts or if I create a new account.
Where the apps are located for each user account and whether there is way of checking that they are set up to have the correct access rights and privileges.

I consider myself an advanced user, but I still overlook a lot of things and make mistakes like everyone.
Basically, Windows 8.1's Metro apps and tiles keep refreshing to default settings like it's the first time I've used them or opened them.
When I go to use Skype, it will always ask if it is allowed to use my webcam and microphone. It seems to remember the settings for a while, then forgets them.
I'm assuming this is CCleaner related, but I unchecked all of the settings that correspond to the Metro applications, and this changes nothing.
I'm unsure if I am actually deleting important information Windows needs without knowing. I usually delete logs on top of the usual things to keep my computer clean.

Oct 20, 2013I open up my Live tiles screen on my 2nd monitor. When I open an app, say facebook. All is fine. When I drag from top of screen to bottom with my mouse to close the app, it goes to desktop. Is there a way for me to go back to the Live tiles screen?
Also, is it possible to have the live tiles screen visible all times on my 2nd monitor. I use Stardocks Start8.
Apps / Software :: All Metro Apps / Magnet And BBC IPlayer Links Don't Work?
Mar 12, 2014I have two, probably connected, issues with my new Windows 8.1-running laptop.
Recently, and very suddenly, all Windows 8 metro apps have stopped working.
A typical experience: Swipe for charms bar > Settings > Change PC settings .... This then takes me to the metro start screen. If I press the windows key, it shows me the settings icon in full screen for a few seconds then takes me back to the start screen. This happens for every app!
(I have followed this, but to no avail: Can't access "Change PC Settings" in Win 8 - Microsoft Community.)
Also, I have been getting the 'No apps are installed to open this kind of link' error message when opening a magnet link in uTorrent and selecting to download a program from the BBC iPlayer website, using the previously installed BBC iPlayer Downloads program for windows.
I have reinstalled both programs, restarted multiple times and used CC Cleaner to try repair any possible damage to the registry, but all this has had no effect. I have tried to open both magnet links and iPlayer downloads using Internet Explorer instead, but this hasn't done anything either.
Other Relevant Info:
I have recently tried Iobit's Advanced System Care (or, ASC) programs, but I uninstalled them all because I suspected they were causing at least some of the issues. As far as I know, the internet link problem (#2) started first. In the past, I have had to reinstall the BBC iPlayer Downloads program because it would lose saved programs and stop working because (I think) ASC deleted some of its temporary files.
Edit: Also, the problems seem to coincide with the recent 8.1 update... but that isn't necessarily relevant.

Jun 24, 2014Whenever I open a Metro app like Weather, even after closing it using the red cross in the upper right corner (feature added in 8.1 Update), the app will keep running in the background forcing me to end it with Task Manager. Is this normal?
