Mar 22, 2014When i launch certain programs in windows desktop they close after a second (or less). I noticed that if i run them with administrator mode they run normally.

Apps / Software :: Several Programs Suddenly Won't Launch Or Stops Working
Sep 15, 2014All of a sudden many of my programs either won't launch or stops working right after launch.
I have no "reset" point that can fix this, and I have tried "sfc /scannow" (without having a clue what it does). After the sfc /scannow, the command prompt message said I had some corrupt files, and not all of them could be fixed automatically.
What can cause several programs to stop working all of a sudden, and what can possibly fix it?(Without re-installing Win 8 of course)
Apps Stay In Task Manager After Exiting In Windows 8.1
Nov 6, 2013When I close my Metro apps (dragging and then closing) in Windows instead of closing and exiting they stay suspended in Task Manager and I have to close them manually from the task manager..Is there a way to get them closed upon exiting the app?

Windows 8 - Programs Won't Launch And DVD Drive Not Eject
Oct 31, 2012I installed Windows 8 on my laptop like 5 days ago, everyone worked fine and dandy there but somehow now most of my programs won't launch but i can see it in Task Manager, my DVD drive won't open when i try to eject it physically, when i try to right click and eject it in My Computer, it freezes immediately and doesn't recover so i'd have to end it via TM.
But this is what i don't understand, after i put my Laptop to sleep by pressing briefly on the power button, when i turn it on again, the DVD drive then opens after the long time i tried to open in while using Windows, i then login and the program.s that wouldn't open like Origin and iTunes would be opened after logon..
Windows Media Player also freezes when i use it to open music files and play as it is the default player, sometimes it plays the music but it won't let me pause or change volume, sometimes i won't play at all and it'd just freeze..
And sometimes when i try to restart, the system hangs and won't actually restart leaving me to hold down and press the power button to shut-down the system. I'm almost regretting upgrading to Windows 8..
Windows 8 - System Boots / Logs In But Cannot Launch Any Programs
Sep 24, 2013Running Windows 8, the system boots into a user account without login.
The launcher seems to work, I can bring up the desktop. From the desktop I cannot launch any programs, other than a non-admin DOS window- but from there I can't launch any other non command.com EXE.
When I try and run any desktop app, the icon comes up and highlights for about 5-10 seconds, then goes back to normal. I can't even ht CTRL-ALT-DEL and run Task Manager. It just never comes up.
Logging out never gets me back to the login screen.
I can swap accounts- but the other account never gets logged in. Just waits forever (or, at least, a long time).
When I launch Metro apps, the splash comes up to the app... and that's it. I can CTRL-F4 it, and that's it.
Hitting F8 on boot doesn't do anything (no safe mode anymore?).
Google Chrome And Other Programs Launch Extremely Slowly
Mar 24, 2014This issue has been happening for 2 days. I have Windows 8.1 in an Asus G46V. My anti-virus is Norton 360.When I logged into my computer, I got an error message saying that I could use the computer because I was administrator or something like that. It was the first time I had seen that in my life. I ignored it and I tried to launch Chrome. It took around 4 minutes to start, normally it takes 5 seconds. I didn't know what it was, so I looked at event viewer and I saw I had several errors of Service Control Manager, event ID 7000. Maybe it was related, I don't know. So far I have reinstalled Chrome and re-started my PC with no success.

Apps / Software :: Windows 8.1 / Most Metro Apps Crash Immediately At Launch
Oct 20, 2013having installed and configured all the software I need, I felt almost ready and relieved to finally create a backup image of my system. However, I have just realised that most built-in Metro Apps have stopped working.
In detail, Weather, Maps, Mail, Skype, Calendar, Contact, Stocks (and probably few more) do not work, i.e., when I click-open them, there is the short animation in which the App symbol is magnified to full screen, and then immediately afterwards I am sent back to the Metro interface. However, the apps do still appear in the Metro Apps' taskbar on the left side of the screen. Re-Opening them from there leads gives the same result.
Very few apps work, like Skydrive, Photos and Store.
I can confirm that I neither had this issue with Windows 8 nor right after my Windows 8.1 installation, which is when I checked Metro apps for the last time.
What settings in the meantime have caused this disruption, I can only say that I have not done any real work with the computer since the fresh install but merely installed and configured everything to my specifications.
Just for the sake of ruling out some possible causes, I can confirm that: I have no third-party firewall or antivirus programs installed; that I have no nvidia or ATI/AMD graphics card, just the Intel HD 4000 onboard graphics; and that I use the most recent drivers everywhere.
I have already read Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter - Fix Apps in Windows 8 and gone through most of the points, except the refresh install, which I would like to avoid since this is a newly installed computer.
The following errors are reported in the application event log of Windows:
1) Event id 10: "Fehler beim Laden der Anwendungseinstellungen for Paket "Microsoft.BingMaps_8wekyb3d8bbwe". Fehlercode: 5" This is the original German message, translated to english this means:
"Error loading applications settings for package "...". Error code: 5"
I get this type of error for every app I launch, and a few more errors like:
2) Event id 5973: "Translated: The following error occurred while activating the app "...": The remote procedure call failed. You can find more information in the protocoll/log "Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Idle""

Apps / Software :: Modern UI Apps Won't Launch All Of The Sudden?
Apr 11, 2014So on my dad's notebook, an ASUS K55N, all of the sudden, all of the Modern UI apps stopped working, every time he clicks on one he gets a message saying "This App Can't Open", and all he did was run Windows Update this morning (he downloaded SP1 for Office, the big Update was installed yesterday, and he could use these Apps with no problem).

Apr 2, 2014Recently my mom visited a website that tricked her. She downloaded and installed some stuff she didn't need. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff she installed.
Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features is not showing all installed programs. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letter M. 14 programs are listed. See picture. Start Menu -> All Programs -> I suspect some programs are missing. I have a Win 7 style Start menu because I am using IObit's Start Menu 8 program. Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools was empty. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.
I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date, but that didn't work. In the process of trying to do that I discovered that BitDefender Internet Security 2014 doesn't get along with Windows 8.1's System Restore feature. I uninstalled BitDefender and successfully went back to an earlier date but still had the same problems with missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues: missing programs in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu.

Jul 1, 2014Every time I connect my camera to the USB, the Photo App automatically launches and it is driving me nuts. I wouldn't mind using the Photo App but it doesn't give me any option to delete the photos once transferred. I am aware I can right click the device in My PC and Import that way, (like the Windows 7 of old), but the App still opens forcing me to close the screen! I've clicked on the Default setting for Photos and chose Do nothing but the photo App still automatically launches!!! What can I do? I just want the Windows 7 method of importing.

Apr 8, 2014I just did a fresh install of 8.1 pro on my computer with an SSD. When i click the start button and use the apps window(not metro) to launch desktop programs they load extremely slow. The start menu doesn't even close on its own when i click to launch a program either i have to manually close it then a few seconds later the program will launch. When i open the program from explorer it loads instantly but for whatever reason doing anything through the new start menu is extremely slow.

Sep 12, 2013I have Office 2010 which came preinstalled on my Dell 8300 XPS. I have the key and have recovered the program in the past.
If I Refresh my pc, and find the folder Windows. Old, can I get the Office program out of it or do I have to download from a site and install again?
Obviously I don't know what is in the folder nor what it allows you to retrieve . I do know that when done with it you can delete it.
I can retrieve some of the programs and apps that refresh removes and that is not hard to do. Perhaps I just open the folder, locate the program, and copy and paste it or click 'reinstall'.

Jul 22, 2013I seem to keep having random BSOD'S on windows startup showing a Kernal_Security_Check_Failure and in event viewer it is showing as Bug_Check_Code 313, what is causing this.
I also seem to be randomly getting BSOD'S while either exiting/starting a game or loading up Unity (Game engine).

Oct 27, 2013I can not run the Windows Store apps after I updated my new laptop from Win 8 to 8.1. None of the Metro apps can be executed anymore. Each app will begin the run process, but the Metro UI returns after couple of seconds after the execution attempt. I do not get any error messages.
I have read earlier message threads concerning the issue and tried to solve it by following the instructions given by the specialists, but so far none of those instructions have solved the problem.

I have
1) checked that I have admin rights
2) checked that my account is a Windows Live account (not a local one)
2) disabled my virus software (McAfee, I have not found Avast in my computer)
3) run the The Windows apps troubleshooter. It indicates that I may not have up-to-date graphics card drivers - I have downloaded the final version from the manufacturer's home page (Acer) (and also from NVIDIA pages)
4) checked that my dispaly resolution is high enough (1900 x 1080)
I have not
1) unistalled and reinstalled the apps, beacuse I can not run the Store, in where the uninstallation and the reinstallation would take place

Oct 1, 2013I'm on win 8 x64. I just did a fresh install and got all the updates. Everything seems fine except there r a few programs that I can't get to run. These programs install with no errors but when I try to run them they won't open. These programs worked before so I know they're not the problem and they're all legit. I emailed the support people but haven't heard anything yet.
Ashampoo burning studio 12. The compact mode runs but the normal mode fails
Coffeecup HTML editor v12. I get an error when opening it and have to close the program.
Farstone Total Recovery Pro. When I try to run it nothing happens and it doesn't show in task manager.
p.s. I tried all the compatibility, run as administrator options etc. also ran sfc and got no errors

1) install 8.1 preview; then,
2) install a program (not an app from the app store), like Photoshop ...
Will I have to re-install that program once I update to 8.1 RTM? Or, are the re-installs associated only with apps downloaded from the store?

Jun 23, 2014Yesterday I was watching a video on YouTube no problems when all of a sudden it shut down and didn't want to load back up, after clicking the shortcut on the desktop a dialogue window popped up saying that 'this program isn't in this location' (or something similar) and if I wanted to delete the shortcut. Thinking nothing much of it I rebooted my machine.
After rebooting, some of my tiles were missing and the rest of the tiles had a small black 'X' on the corner, I couldn't open any of my apps and searching for them resulted in the icon popping up in the charms bar but was unable to open them. Literally 20 seconds later all of the tiles disappeared, the charms bar stopped working and the whole screen looked completely blank.
One more reboot later and I have no tiles on the main start screen, no tiles when I swipe down to all apps, no search results for control panel or task manager, the charms bar works but all I can do is access my WiFi network, volume and screen or search.
The tablet is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2.

Sep 7, 2013A few weeks ago, after using the computer for some time, (The problem doesn't start until a few hours later) my programs won't start up unless running as administrator. All programs. Including notepad. (not sure about cmd) I have not done a full scan on my computer because it estimates more than one day and the estimated time still extends.
