I just bought my daughter a Lenovo running Windows 8 and when I try to connect to my Wi-Fi I am getting Limited connection only and can't figure it out.
View 5 RepliesI am frequently getting page not found errors, and am having to reload, pages take a long time to load and it's pretty much 50-50 wether it will or not load at all.
I've tried rebooting my router. I have a Vergin Media 'Super Hub' which is only two months old.

My connection just went 'limited connection' but I can browse and download on the web with ease. Also, my metro apps like mail, and news, facebook does not update, and also it's live tiles. Windows store app says it can't connect to the internet.
I'm using an Nvidia nForce ethernet built in an Asrock n68c-s ucc motherboard.I tried to find updates for this nvidia nforce but managed to get only for windows 7. so installed it, and nothing happens.
I cannot at all connect to the internet.

I bought Windows 8 when it was released, like most people I liked the performance upgrades and other stuff, but that was about it. Months later I installed Windows 7 again, but it just felt old and there were a few things I missed about Windows 8, anyway yesterday I decided to install Windows 8 again (8.1) but I'm having a problem since I did.
Whenever I connected an external hard drive via USB3.0, Wi-Fi would disconnect. I searched this over to see if other people were having the same issue, there were some guys but they were using a USB based Wi-Fi adapter, I'm using the one in the laptop.

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro, All updates (Problem happens with or without updates, with original (Asus) or Windows supplied drivers)
I was loosing the Wi-Fi connection and I didn't know why, it was very intermitent, it would work for 10 minutes and then not, I then downloaded new drivers, directly from Intel, Asus and then using the Windows Update, it didn't work in neither case.
I was watching youtube and noticed the signal was good, it was working fine, and realised that the Seagate HDD was disconnected, I had just isolated the problem.
I tried to replicate it and indeed it happened, whenever I connected the drive, signal would be lost. At first I thought it might be a hardware-based issue, but it was working fine with Windows 7, so I decided to play with it a little more. I found out that Wi-Fi connection wasn't being lost, but rather loosing power, Windows would only display the closest routers (two, out of five or six that are in range). So I enabled internet sharing in my cell phone, guess what? It worked fine, signal was strong.
I connected the Seagate drive to a USB2.0 port, no problem. Then connected a different HDD (USB2.0) to the USB3.0 port, no problem.
So the thing is that Wi-Fi loses power when the USB3.0 HDD is connected to the USB3.0 port.
Recently, something odd has been happening. On initial start up of my PC, the network fails. It will show the yellow exclamation point and show as limited. When this happens, I cant even ping my directly connected router. It shows as PING: Transmit failed. General Failure.
So far since this started happening, restarting works. Is there any way to figure out what the cause is? My drivers are up to date and it may have started when I updated to 8.1 but im not 100 percent sure. Not sure if there are any logs I can look at to see what isnt happening correctly when this occurs.
i have a lenovo idea pad that will connect to wifi but says limited connection. I can use the iternet via ethernet cable with no issues. My ISP is comcast and I have one of their modems that came with wifi im guessing it doubles as a router seeing i direct connect to it with my laptop. however my wifi works for my xbox one, a nexus 7 tablet a xbox 360 ,a printer and two smartphones with no issues what so ever. They are not all on at once so max connections shouldnt be a issue. I've spent hours on the phone with comcast and they insist its the laptop and not the wifi, how to go about fixing the issue. I've checked the drivers and their up to date then uninstalled and reinstalled still no luck. i use firefox for browsing and AVG for antivirus.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer keeps listing the internet connection as "limited". It does this randomly, I don't know when it will happen next. Restarting router/computer fixes it sometimes, but not all the time. Sometimes it takes about 4 restarts of the router until I get a proper connection. Trouble shooting merely describes the problem as having no connection and tells me to reconnect the router. This takes around 5 minutes each time and I'm getting tired of doing this, as it interrupts skype calls, games and conversations.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my sony vaio connecting to the internet. For one thing it doesn't pick up wireless signal as far away as the other laptops in the house. The main problem though, is that often the bars will be lit up as if it is connected but there will be a little yellow warning triangle saying limited.
When it happens, I try disconnecting/reconnecting and turning the router on and off but most of the time I just have to wait until it comes back. Once it is connected it works fine. It is fairly a fairly common occurrence and happens every day.
We have an Eircom router and the wireless card (according to the outside of the box) is: Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11bgn).
I've been having a problem since I updated to Windows 8.1My internet wi-fi connection is unusually low and is not working after only minutes of browsing the internet. The problem is always fixed after I run troubleshoot problems and is saying that the default Gateway is unavailable. My netword card might be the source of the problem even tough I updated the drivers. I'm not sure which one I have because drivers from Ralink and Qualcomm seem to be working both.

I plugged in my ethernet cable I would only get "Limited Access" to the router I've spent the last 10hours+ trying to find a solution but not a single has worked now what to do.
I've tried manually putting IP/DNS but nope no luck. I've uninstalled drivers and reinstalled drivers, restarted router tried various cmd commands but I really just dont know what to do anymore.
So I bought this new Samsung Ativ book4, for some reason at random times the wireless goes to a "limited connection" and I have to reboot the computer to get a full connection. Do you think this is hardware or driver?
I heard Windows 8 is not very friendly with wireless drivers and Windows 8.1 is suppose to have better support for wireless drivers.
I have an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 8.1. My main modem is located downstairs in my house, with a laptop connected to it (it works fine, never any issues). Before, I had a router wired upstairs to connect my laptop to. Here's the problem - it doesn't matter if I am using a wireless or a wired connection, I get a limited connection. I will have Windows troubleshoot the problem, and it always says that the problem was that the Default Gateway is not Available, and it will say that it is fixed. However, this randomly happens over and over anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes after I just "fixed" it.
I have just recently tried running a wire across my house to plug directly into the modem. This worked for a while, but the same thing started happening. Keep in mind, there is also a laptop wired directly to the modem downstairs in my house. I believe (but I haven't checked this in a while) that if I connect to the WiFi from my modem downstairs, it works fine.
I just traveled to a place where there is supposed to be wifi and I am staying here for a while. The wifi connects well through Ipod, but when connecting through windows 8 it accepts the password but tells me this connection is limited.
I searched through some threads and did some of the solutions such as the netsh reset for example but none have worked so far. Should I do a factory reset to my laptop?
My Windows 8 laptop is having some WiFi connection issues.
Basically what happens is that every 5-20 minutes I cannot access the internet on browsers and the wifi connection is listed as "Limited".
The laptop: ASUS Vivobook S200E
The WiFi: Sky wireless router (no idea about model, it's almost two years old) But what I will say is that my Windows 7 laptop never skips a beat on this network, nor does my wife's Mac, nor do our 2 Android tablets, the iPad, the iPhone, the Android phone, and various devices that our friends connect when they come round. Literally no other device has any problems on this network, so I know (by the process of elimination) the Windows 8 laptop is the one with the problem.
In order to fix the issue I have to disconnect from the network, wait about 30 sec and reconnect again.
This is a boot up timing issue, registry fix for network comming up. I am on a wired LAN which works ok. However, recently when booting I am getting the message cannot connect to network drives - these are mapped drives to NAS boxes.
However, when I access the drives the 'red X's' change to the network symbol and access is working. Its seems the computer wants to connect before the network is up. It is not a credential issue, but boot order. Is there anyway to make the network come up before the computer wants to map to it. Not a problem but a nag.
I just bought a Lenovo Y500 a couple of days ago and it came with a pre-installed Windows 8 everything seems working fine but when it comes to Wifi it randomly disconnects a lot , sometimes shows limited access and most of the time the signal strength bars keep going up and down.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new Windows 8, Inspiron 15 7000 series - 7537 last December. I had been using a router at a hotel for the time, and it worked correctly. When I arrived home, I had a Belkin router, and i experienced network issues in that i could not connect to the wifi. I could connect with Ethernet cable. The problem was fixed through customer support eventually, but I now have a new Comcast router, and i'm experiencing what appears to be the same or a similar issue. I can access the internet fine by wire. With wifi, it says i have access to the internet over the internet icon in the bottom right, but i cannot access webpages. I can use skype, and communicate through it.

I really need the wifi on this router working for this laptop. Let me note that it works on other laptops, so it should be an issue with hardware or settings on this laptop.
Since a few weeks, I have a problem with my laptop running Windows 8.1 (Toshiba Satellite P50-A-12PBE). Sometimes, after bringing Windows back from sleep mode, I seem to have no connection to the internet. Windows says the connection is 'limited', wether I'm connected with a wire or wireless. Resetting the router doesn't solve anything, but rebooting my pc does. Since both the wired and wireless network are always simultaneously affected, I think this hasn't anything to do with drivers (I already have the latest versions by the way). I have made screenshots with ipconfig-results when I'm connected with a wire.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWifi worked, walked away for 10 minutes, then found that it didn't. I would normally just reset the router, but I live in an apartment building and the router is in my landlords office.
When I did ipconfig /all, my ip started with 169, which I know isn't normal. But when I try to do a /release and /renew, I get the error "No operation can be performed on local area connection *14 while it has it's media disconnected." I am unable to attempt a wired connection, as the router is not accessible to me.
.I'm not sure if this is a router issue, or an issue with my laptop (less than a year old.) I am a grad student and I currently have to do most of my work via my iphone, which is getting very inconvenient.
I have two desktop PCs connected to my router, one named Mirabel running Win7 Pro, and one named Bessie running Win Server 2008 R2 (both 64-bit). These can see each other quite happily.
I just installed Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit on my Dell Vostro 3750 lap top, which I named Rosie, but am having problems connecting to the other machines.
When I go to the Network node in Windows Explorer on Rosie, I can't see either of the other two machines, but if I type Bessie in the address bar, it shows me the two drives that are shared. However, if I try and explore either of these, I get the following error...
The laptop is part of a workgroup, imaginatively named "Workgroup" as are the other two machines...
I changed the properties of the TCP/IP v4 to match the ones on the other two machines (with a different IP address of course) but this didn't work.
The odd thing is that I can browse the shared drives on Mirabel without any problem. In case it's relevant, both desktop machines can browse Rosie without problems. Windows 8 has changed so much from Win7, and it's wasting a lot of time trying to get it set up.
I have a lenovo G505 laptop - it will no longer connect to my BT home hub despite it showing as being available. I suspect it might be to do with the fact that it is has a passkey - I entered it yesterday when prompted and it connected fine, but now I'm not being given the option of entering the key.
I've also tried connected using the BT wifi (as opposed to homehub) but once again it will not connect me. I've been through all the troubleshooting options, and searched under every term I can think of, but nothing is working.

Cat 6 cable from router to switch
Cat 6 cables from switch to printer and desktops
I think this will give me wifi for my laptop and good connection speed between computers and printer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 2 machines connected via my router/hub (wired). One is running Windows 8.1 and the other Windows 7. Previously I had them sharing perfectly until I did a reinstall of Windows 8 (upgraded to Windows 8.1). I get this message on both machines whilst trying to access shared drives (permissions enabled to read, write, modify for all users):
I have a local account on the windows 8.1 as per previous installation. I have checked all the usual sharing settings and they are the same as in the previous working installation on both machines. I have left the homegroup and created a new one on the windows 8 machine and rejoined on the windows 7 machine all to no avail.
Unable to figure out a default setting.
Simply for the home desktop and want to share with other kit on the home network.
When I boot up it appears I have to always tweak the settings :
1) Control Panel > System > Change settings > Network ID and select under "Select the option that best describes your network" so I opt for I tick "this is a home computer; it's not part of a business network."
2 )The reboot.
All works fine and all devices can be seen and read/write in accordance with the appropriate share settings.
Now the issue is when I next reboot the
Control Panel > System > Change settings > Network ID and select under "Select the option that best describes your network" will default to "This computer is part of a business network; I use it to connect to other computers at work".
So I have to got through steps 1 and 2 again.
How to I get Windows 8.1 Pro x64 to default to the "this is a home computer; it's not part of a business network." on each boot without having to manual configure.
I created a HOMEGROUP on computers A with PRINTER hooked up.. No problem with A, B, C printing.
Now I hooked up PRINTER to computers B. Computers A, B, C do not print (unless I hook up to A).
IMHO if all computers are on the same home network, they should be able to share the same functions. What should I do to hook up the printer to B and A, B, C will print?
I have three computers on my home network:
(a) desktop in the office with ASUS USB-N53 adapter
(b) new desktop in the office with fairly old Broadcom PCI 802.11g adapter
(c) media box hooked up to TV hard wired to router
I recently mapped a drive on system A so that it could be shared with system B (they are side by side). Unfortunately, upon trying to transfer files the speeds are terrible! I am only getting between 500kb/s and 1mb/s.Is this due to my relatively old wireless G adapter?
My laptop is few months old HP Pavilion g6 OS: Windows 8 uses a ralink rt5390r 802.11bgn wifi adapter.
The wifi was working just fine suddenly it stopped. It detects my home network but every time it tries to connect ends up "unable to connect to this network". It connects to my friends wifi but not mine. And it connects with cable.
There is a red cross on the wifi network but it's green not GREY. It is not a modem problem because the other PC connects just fine. When I'm on wifi, cmd ipconfig gives me disconnected media for all the network cards on the laptop. Command netsh shows failure and access denied.
What I have tried to do for the past week :
I upgraded the adapter/ driver. My windows is fully updated. I re-installed the network card. I tried a USB wifi. I uninstalled the private server. I uninstalled my Norton because I thought it was blocking the connection I also deactivated the windows fire wall. I changed the SSID and PSW ... nothing worked. and of course I tried restarting, resetting, rebooting, deactivating and activating, disabling and enabling every single thing but nothing works.
