I am a newbie in windows phone development .... Troubleshooting the Windows Phone 8 Emulator .... but still its same ....
When Windows 8 menu appears on start and I choose W7 - instead of loading W7directly , the computer is new-starting again and only than starts w7. That's a funny "behaviour"....
Also, after starting the computer, the menu is not directly shown up, first is this turning wi8 circle (like in the setup) and only about 30 sec. later comes the menu. I am using windows 8 enterprise, test version.
Have a question regarding "Local Account". I'm having problems connecting to the Win 8 laptop from Win 7 as it will not accept my sign in credentials. With that, am I to assume that this is because the credential aren't "Local", and thus this is what this is for???
It will not accept the "Microsoft" account I use to log into Win 8 laptop.
With that, if I choose to go with the "local account" can I easily switch back to the Microsoft one?
I had windows 7 and outlook express on it. The computer crashed. I had to get a whole new computer with windows 8 and just outlook. I have a folder with all my old outlook express emails in it but it is not compatible with outlook and I NEED an email in the old outlook express file. How the heck can I get this? When I try to open the old files it says " must be opened with outlook".
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a few questions about dual booting windows 7 and windows 8 preinstalled (UEFI) on my Dell laptop.
1. Can I install a non-UEFI version of Windows 7 on my laptop, if so how?
2. Will installing a non-UEFI version of Windows 7 on my laptop break it?
3. Can I use EasyBCD for UEFI?
4. How do I create a UEFI windows 7?
In a few days I will receive a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with Windows 8 installed. And separately I will receive an OEM Win7. Win7 is certainly what I intend to use, and I had originally thought I would wipe out Windows 8 and install Win7. But now I am wondering if I can somehow preserve Windows 8 for occasional use. (I would have ordered the machine with Win7 but this is a refurbished machine.)
I would rather not have to understand UEFI. (I'm sure it would be interesting, I just have other things to do with my time.) And, although I do it sometimes, and will if I have to, I do not like diddling with BIOS settings.
I know that factory installed operating systems generally can't be moved to other machines. And I fear that the factory installed Windows 8 that I will receive may not even tolerate being installed, e.g., in a smaller partition or under something like VMware (another complication I'd like to avoid).
I am currently running windows 8 64bit OS. I have a windows 7 32bit .iso file. I want to install the windows 7 32 bit while keeping the windows 8 64bit too.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Series 5, 530U (the remaining digits I don't recall right now).
I purchased it from a digital superstore, like a market, rather than a regular PC store.
The device is set for Windows 7, although on purchase, I asked for Windows 8 to be installed.
Now, a BSOD has stopped me gaining access through refreshing, restarting, safe mode or any of the options available through the troubleshooting menu.
I retrieved my data using a SATA, and now wish to wipe the system of Windows 8, and avoid all the hassle it has brought me, returning to it's factory settings of W7.
I do not have a disk, or anything to do so. When I go through the menu on start-up, I click 'restore system' but I am then prompted for 'recovery mdeia or installation disk'.
Is it possible to just reset the whole PC and start from the day it left the factory?
If I need a disk to reset the original settings, where can I get it from and would simply loading it when prompted fix my problem?
All I want is to be able to use my own PC. I want Windows 8 cleared off and a reliable, original settings PC.
I have 3 user accounts on my windows 8.1 laptop; 2 administrator types and 1 standard local account. While logged in using one of the admin user accounts or the local account, I can access the store app. However, when i log in using the other administrator account and try to access the store app, i just get the spinning circle and nothing happens. Is there something wrong with how one user account is set up that is causing the problem. Do I have to delete the user account and try re-establishing it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a Windows 8 tablet, and also use a W7 PC. I use Outlook on the PC, and will be using the tablet while on the move, sometimes disconnected. I want to be able to take my emails, contacts, calendar and some documents with me on the tablet.
i intend to use SkyDrive for the documents, and will use the mail app, or install Outlook on the tablet to have a copy of emails on it, but I am not sure how to make sure that contacts and calendar are synchronised on both machines. I use a local to UK mail provider (btinternet).
how to align contacts and calendars across both machines?
I have a fairly new Dell with windows 8.1 on it. Internet explorer stopped working all of a sudden the other day. No warning at all. When I open the desktop version, nothing happens at all. No tab, no pageload, nothing.I can click the gear and only file, safety, and compatibility view settings are available. I have reset internet explorer settings to no avail through internet options. ?I have scanned with a few different tools and nothing has fixed it. Also, the window outline colors have turned to a reddish pink.

She would like to try Windows 8 but is going back to Uni soon so would like Windows 7 as a back-up dual booted.
I've shrunk the partition and created a simple partition for Windows 7 but really unsure about Installing Windows 7 on a Windows 8 Laptop, it's an ASUS X550CA-XX417H. I've checked power shell with SecureBootUEFI and result is True.
What would be the best way to dual boot?
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit,i choose upgrade in the installation process of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit,at the end my computer restart 2 times, showing an error with sad smile "" after that it restart again and says that upgrading failed and it revert back to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit...
Today i used Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant (Windows8-UpgradeAssistant.exe) ,it found 4 incompatible programs, are they the cause of fail upgrade
Although during the upgrade the Windows 8 Setup didn't found any incompatible programs..
It wouldn't usually bother me, but I can't install Zune now and MP3 file tags aren't showing up.Is there a way to install one of these without reinstalling the OS or should I wait for Microsoft's addon?

I did the upgrade from win7 to Windows 8 x64. When I try to use wmp I get audio but no video. I have tried reinstalling my codecs and different codecs like sharks, klite etc. I have reinstalled my graphic drivers. I have tried add/remove features, but no look. Its the same with wmc. I can play videos with quicktime. I was going to try a refresh, but I have way to many programs to reinstall, and a Windows 8 inplace upgrade doesn't offer to keep my apps & settings.
How I can repair or reinstall wmp without wiping out my system and reinstalling all my programs?
I have a CD for it and i want it to be my operating system instead of Windows 8. Is it possible to do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows 7 I used to be able to right click on a file and one of my choices was to scan with Microsoft security essentials, but that's no longer in my right click menu.
How do I go about doing a manual scan on just one file using Microsoft's (I guess it's now Defender) Security Essentials in Windows 8?
How I could go about doing this. Last year I bought a Windows 8 Pro upgrade disc we used to upgrade our machines from Windows 7 home Premium to 8 Pro. Is it possible for me to use that same upgrade product key for Windows 8 Pro on 8.1 so I could have a Pro version of 8.1? The computer I originally did the upgrade on I am no longer using and is there a way to deactivate the license on that one so it could be used on the new computer I bought? Also I just want the extra's of the Pro version so does it matter it is the license for Windows 8 even though the new computer uses 8.1?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have tried with a new harddisk, took out my graphics card, checked my memory, they all seemed fine. My computer always run into a quick BSOD during the first boot and I am unable to see the error message and it restarts back to BIOS followed by a successful boot into windows on the second try. Occasionally, on the second try, it would go into windows repair and say that windows did not start up correctly etc. Normally, once it gets into windows, it would be ok. I did have once that I got a BSOD in windows.
Another interesting point to note is I can circumvent the cold boot crash issue by going to BIOS immediately on boot and exit it. This way, it would normally boot into windows without issues.
I suspect this is due to the on board network card but I cannot be sure. This computer is only 1 week old and I have spent a lot of time troubleshooting it. I have tried uninstalling, cleaning and re-installing the latest network drive.
Note that the cold boot crash issue does not always generate a mini dump file.
I have an ASUS U32VJ laptop (Complete USB 3.0 ports - no 2.0, i5 3210, HD4000+GT365M, 4GB RAM).
I want to install Windows 7 64bit for now and just leave Windows 8 in a partition I will not look at.So i partition off the data drive ASUS left for me and give a fat 200GB+ for a Windows 7.
I get the following when I try to boot from via EFI menu and even through the BIOS to go EFI from USB:
further below, printscreens of bootx64.efi location and the cmd commands:
Could this problem be caused due to having a 2.0 USB stick in USB 3.0? There aren't any USB 2.0s on this machine unfortunately?

We have a computer that went BSOD this morning on startup. (Windows 8.1 PRO 64 bit) From what we can tell, nothing has changed since last Tuesday/Wednesday. It was shut down every night and restarted everyday for the last 5 days.
This morning, it starts up through normal boot process, shows Windows 8 icon, we hear the start up tune and then it goes black and then BSOD.
I made a recovery USB stick with another computer running Windows 8.1 PRO 64 bit. The problem computer then boots up the USB and we run the repair options and nothing worked.
We went through the command prompt bootrec /fixmbr and associated steps. No go.
We are getting stuck at what to do and are looking at reinstalling. We have a Windows 8.0 license, so Windows 8.1 upgrade is not refreshable or reinstallable at this point. When I went to reinstall Windows 8.0, of course Windows 8.1 is locked.....
I already ran my norton antivirus, the spybot search and destroy software looking for malware but there was no thread. also i deleted some programs that i thought could be adding right click capabilities to my right click menu(as even if i right click on a folder,it freezes) but it still the same.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I fresh installed Windows 8 on Legacy boot, deleting all partitions even the factory restore partitions, everything. I realized late that the new trendy thing is to install on UEFI, however I'm having difficulty doing this. How exactly do I go about this?
My laptop has a 256 gb SSD mSATA where Windows and apps are installed, and a media HDD sized at 750 gb. I deleted every partition I had when I installed Windows 8 and made new ones for a fresh install, however I think this is preventing me from doing a UEFI install correctly..
Can I install Windows 10 Preview alongside with Windows 8.1?
