Debugging :: Windows 8.1 First Cold Boot Always BSOD At Windows Loading

Jan 9, 2014

I have tried with a new harddisk, took out my graphics card, checked my memory, they all seemed fine. My computer always run into a quick BSOD during the first boot and I am unable to see the error message and it restarts back to BIOS followed by a successful boot into windows on the second try. Occasionally, on the second try, it would go into windows repair and say that windows did not start up correctly etc. Normally, once it gets into windows, it would be ok. I did have once that I got a BSOD in windows.

Another interesting point to note is I can circumvent the cold boot crash issue by going to BIOS immediately on boot and exit it. This way, it would normally boot into windows without issues.

I suspect this is due to the on board network card but I cannot be sure. This computer is only 1 week old and I have spent a lot of time troubleshooting it. I have tried uninstalling, cleaning and re-installing the latest network drive.

Note that the cold boot crash issue does not always generate a mini dump file.

Debugging :: Random BSOD On Cold Boots On Windows 8.1 Pro

Jan 11, 2014

The Last couple weeks after I finshed reinstalling a fresh copy of windows 8.1 after my computer has been shut down for a couple of hours when I turn on I receive most of the time random BSOD ranging from bad memory management, page file in no fault, and so forth. But when I restart after the bsod the computer runs fine. Once in a blue moon it takes maybe 2 restarts to finally boot it correctly. I have rain Driver verifer and I uninstalled ai suite 2 when their drivers kept crashing it.

I had also ran windows mem diag during a cold boot period and it showed no errors. I have also tried returning to stock clocks and still running in to the same issue after a bit of time.

I am currently running:

Windows 8.1pro
i7 3770k over clock to 4.6 on an Asus Sabertooth z77
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) X2
OCZ vertex 4 128 ssd
1tb WD black hd
2tb Seagate barracuda hd
Crossfiring 2 Sapphire Toxic r280x
PSU is a corsair AX 1200i

Debugging :: BSOD While Windows Is Loading - Error 0xc0000001

Apr 12, 2014

Randomly today my computer decided it did not want to boot. It originally had a different error code, but I found a tutorial on how to fix it, I followed the tutorial and my problem stayed the same but my error code changed. Basically something is wrong with my boot sector.

The initial code was 0xc0000225 and I used this tutorial to solve it: Solution to your PC needs to be repaired Error code: 0xc0000225

After that I got the new error: 0xc0000001. I have tried rebuilding the BCD, I have tried fixing the master boot record. I even started to go as far as to do a system "refresh" but windows told me that the HDD was locked and I have to unlock it to do a refresh, which Id much rather not do. When I tried to rebuild the BCD it detected my OS but when I told it to add it to the boot list it says "The requested system device cannot be found".

The weirdest thing is everywhere I look I am told to use the windows startup settings but they are totally missing from the menu. I booted to my bootable Windows 8 64 bit flash drive, selected repair my computer, then selected troubleshoot and advanced options and the only things that are available are system restore, system image recovery, automatic repair and command prompt. right under command prompt is where startup settings should be. I cant reformat because I have a lot of stuff that would take forever to get back like music etc.

Automatic repair didnt do anything. Safe mode does not boot either.

Laptop specs:
Asus VivoBook s500ca
Windows 8.1 Professional
8 gig of ram
intel i7 processor
HD 4000 graphics
500 gig HDD + 24 gig SSD (setup as cache)

Audio :: Windows 8.1 64 Bit - No Start Up Sound After Cold Boot

Mar 4, 2014

I have had Windows 8.1 64 bit in my computer for about two months now and everything was working fine..ive noticed last month that after one of the updates (possibly Skydrive icon update) that my windows start up sound wasn't working when I start my computer from a cold boot. Interestingly the sound does work again once im in the OS and I do a restart. I went into sounds and made sure the check mark to play start up sound was clicked btw.

It was working fine before one of the updates. (Also just to note that I set the option to boot directly to desktop and also I changed my user account where i dont see the login screen and it bypasses the password to boot quicker into the desktop.)

The reason why im wondering this is because I have a dz77ga-70k intel motherboard and when I cold boot im noticing a post code 40 on the motherboard when usually it should be 00...funny part is that just as I mentioned before with audio once I do a restart it goes back to normal with a 00 post code. I think its related to an update and something to do with windows not starting correctly from a cold boot.

Windows 8.1 Spontaneous Shutdowns - Require Cold Boot

Jun 9, 2014

About once or twice a month, Win 8.1 will spontaneously shut down and require a cold boot. I've never had this happen in 20 years of using other versions of the Win OS. There doesn't appear to be any obvious cause - it's happened during times of no user input or while typing an email or whatever.

Debugging :: BSOD While Loading Game The Secret World

Aug 13, 2014

The past few days i've been having a lot of errors, which even made my computer go super slow, which made me reset most of the computer files.

It was solved, up untill I started having errors again yesterday, "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR"s.

It happens whenever a game I play (or try to, atm) is in it's loading screen. The name of the game is "The Secret World".

Now it also crashes whenever the windows updates start installing on the restart after their download, with the message "C:WINDOWSSystem32LogfilesSrtSrtTrail.txt".

Virtualbox 4.2.6 Install Triggers Auto-repair At Next Cold Boot

Jan 2, 2013

I have a strange behavior when I install virtualbox on my windows8 laptop: Cold boot (windows8 restart) will then fail, whereas shutdown (fast boot enabled) or suspend still work fine.

Laptop is an HP G6 with an SSD installed with 64 bit windows 8. Prior to the virtualbox install all three actions (suspend/shutdown/restart) work fine.

If I install virtualbox (simply installing, not creating any VM), then the next restart will trigger an "automatic repair" screen at boot. Will never terminate. Only way to fix is to escape + F11 and restore a previous restore point. If instead I say shutdown (I have fast boot enabled) or suspend, the system will restart fine at next power on or resume.

Debugging :: Windows 8 - BSOD On First Fresh Boot Of The Day

Oct 26, 2013

Upgraded to 8 a couple months ago. For the last several weeks have been getting BSODs fairly consistently, usually within the first 5 mins of the first time booting for the day. Subsequent reboots usually won't have an issue.

The errors are always something different. Have seen Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area, system_service_exception, some kind of memory management error.

I've tried testing memory with both memtest86, and windows memory diagnostic, both came up clean.

Been looking at memory dumps, but they all point to different programs causing the issue: Steam showed up twice, Skype, I think there was a dwm.exe

Results of my latest memory dump:

Code: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)Invalid system memory was referenced. This cannot be protected by try-except,it must be protected by a Probe. Typically the address is just plain bad or itis pointing at freed memory.Arguments:Arg1: fffffb0000000408, memory

Debugging :: System Crash / BSoD - Dual Boot Running Windows 7 And 8

May 6, 2014

I am the same person who posted a thread about needing drivers for Windows 7 after dual booting it with my preinstalled copy of Windows 8. So, I was on Windows 7 today, and my screen randomly blinked on and off for 5 seconds, and then came up with a message saying my system display driver crashed but had recovered. Then, about a minute later, it crashed again and came up with a BSOD saying that the display driver had crashed but failed to recover. I do not have the error code from it, as I only saw this screen once, and forgot to copy down the codde because I got freaked out But anyways, I have copied the system report to this post from the Seven Forums System Tool. I am currently running in safe mode on my Windows 7.

Setup Installation :: BIOS Boot Priority / Windows Loading Off Different Drive

Mar 10, 2013

Re-install windows 8 with new motherboard and CPU

I ended up managed to be able to boot into windows after i swapped out my motherboard and CPU to the new ones and everything seems to be working as it should, windows automatically installed the intel drivers and all my old programs and settings are there perfectly.

I can only boot into windows if i select my backup drive as #1 boot device in the BIOS, the SSD isnt even on the list.

The thing I don't understand lies in that, if i select my SSD as priority, where the directory of windows is installed, i get a bootmgr missing error - I've tried the various methods of recovering this using the cmd and a windows installation disc.

This isn't a huge issue but it's really tripping me out as to why this is occurring? I initially had some issues getting windows to boot so i installed a clean windows8 on this backup drive, i didnt change any settings at all. was only making sure that the SSD was being recognized and i hadn't corrupted it somehow. is it possible that the backup drive boot manager is directing it to the SSD.

Debugging :: Many BSOD On Boot Up Followed By System Restore

Sep 12, 2013

I recently put together this computer from parts piece by piece. Unfortunately all these problems started on a particularly large upgrade including new motherboard, processor, heatsink, ram and gpu. So I'm not sure exactly what is causing this problem. Sometimes when I start up I get a BSOD, often a random cause, I've never seen any consistency. And that can cause up to 3-4 BSOD's in a row on boot up until eventually a system repair is attempted, which has to perform a system restore. After the system restore I get another one or two crashes before I am able to keep my computer on. Then a couple of days later, I might suffer the same bizarre chain again.

Debugging :: Bad System Config Info - BSOD After Changing Boot Settings

Feb 16, 2014

Today when I played my favorite game ( entropia universe), I got a message from my game saying that I have low ram, I checked on the Ctrl alt del thing and I was shocked that only 3.8 gb ram was usable when i have 8 gb ram and using 64 bit system. So here comes to my first question... Why would this happen?

So I happened to follow a tutorial and turned on the maximum ram checkbox in the advanced settings in boot tab in msconfig. However when I first reboot I got the session 3 initialisation failed BSOD. The second time and third time and so on and so forth I got bad system config info, which turned my computer into a reboot loop. Second question, why would this happen?

My experience similar to this unlucky fellow : Win 8 BSOD : BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (Details available)SOS

so I followed the guide in the thread and tried to recreate my BCD. I successfully got into the advanced setup options ( I think it is called this ?) by pressing shift +f8.

However I still failed as I was locked there. Every option including opening the command prompt is blocked because it said that operating these options needed administrative rights which I have in my hands. However the ASO said that it can't find any administrative accounts in my computer. Third question , why would this happen?

So now my computer fell into another loop. Whenever I started my computer it went into the ASO and wouldn't get away from it. And can't even see the lovely face in BSOD.

I am am using windows 8.1 in amd fx 8150 and 8 gb ram, computer was somehow normal with occasional freezing ( 1-2 times a month ).

Your PC needs to be repaired

The boot configuration data file is missing some required information.
File:BCD

The first thing I did was creating a bootable USB with Windows 8 software, it did not work. SO i used Rufus, it worked and launched the Windows 8 installation and recovery but when I tried to recover, refresh, anything it told me the disk was locked... or anything the only thing I'm able to access is Command Prompt.

I've been trying some commands that I've seen online but no luck so far. Some commands tell me "OK, successfully something" But when reboot and I change to default the boot order and UEFI then the same error appears.

BSoD Boot Error 0xc0000034 / Missing Boot Files

Sep 15, 2014

Earlier, about an hour ago, I left to go job searching, and left my computer in hibernate mode so I could bring it back up as soon as I got back. When I tapped keys on the keyboard, the computer powered up as usual, but it brought up the BSoD, stating it was missing files.

Prior to receiving this error, everything was working fine. I even set it to hibernate mode during the night, and it powered on this morning without any problems. I dunno if it's the multimedia keyboard I'm using or what that caused it.

I don't have an installation disc (since I bought it from Fry's Electronics about a year ago with 8 pre-installed), and neither do I have a recovery disc (since I didn't know how to make one.

Computer info: Windows 8 x64

Debugging :: BSOD When Updating Windows 8

Oct 22, 2013

I've been trying to update to Windows 8.1 but I keep having issues. I constantly have failing Windows Updates. I have tried a couple different things, renaming the SoftwareDistribution file to .old, Windows Repair, and full clean install of Windows 8. I for the life of me can't figure out what's going on.

Currently, I am unable to install the SF_Diagnostic tool for some reason. It's hung up on downloading the necessary files from Windows Features. I have a mini dump from Windows 8 attached and will try to update it with the SF_Diag tool if it ever installs.

Edit: had to manually enable .NET Framework in order to get the diagnostic tool to install. The mini dump is still the same regardless so I'll keep that there.

Debugging :: Random BSOD In Windows 8?

Oct 11, 2013

Recently I've experienced random BSOD's in Windows 8. Although my computer know-how is limited at best, I knew it was best to upgraded my pc in steps. The first week I installed a SSD (with a fresh install of Windows 8 on it) and ran without any problems. A week later I installed 16 gigs of (new) ram (with the SSD) and everything ran fine.

The problems started two weeks later. I haven't made any changes to my pc or driver upgrades since then. If I idle in windows everything works fine. The same is true when running Office or browsing the internet. BSOD's occur when:

- Playing games (modern or old), either after 5 minutes or after 3 hours (seems very random but frequent);

- When wathing a HD youtube movie (BSOD's when doing this seem very rare though);
