Is there any way to remove old not needed advanced entries in the windows 8.1 power plan settings. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. Highlighted in red is what i don't need anymore any way to remove it?.

My plan Settings sets the time to sleep with computer plugged in to 25minutes whereas the advanced power options has it on 180 minutes. Same applies to other options of the power options.
I was wondering what this mess is all about? I restored both to default and set the advanced to 'Never' and manually configure the Plan Settings.
For the longest while I've had issues with my Windows 8.1 ignoring my selection of power options. By this I mean by CPU will stay clocked at 1.4GHz when it should be hitting around 2.3GHz when I set to high performance from power saving mode.
In the past it's cleared up by itself or through reboots but I'm thoroughly pissed off and I want it fixed.
I just had my laptop install Windows 8.1 tonight. It's a clean install, by the way. Now the problem is I noticed that every time I restart my laptop it's power plan reverts back to "power saver", I had it set on "high performance" before. I own a Samsung laptop, model is NP535U3C-A01, Series 5.
Processor: AMD A6-4455
Memory: 8 GB
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7500G
It stops charging at 99%.
In the future I'm planning to build a new computer to replace this old hunk of junk and I'm curious as to one thing as I'm not entirely sure on this. Just how safe is using the High Performance Power Plan in Windows 8.1?
You see, my current rig is running an old i5 661, normally on the Balanced Power Plan on an old ASUS P7P55D-E Deluxe Motherboard with a GTX 660 and 4GB of RAM on 32-bit Windows 8.1.
But my future plan is to use an i5 4690K with a Corsair H110 All In One Water Cooler for CPU Cooling on a Z97 Motherboard and 8GB of RAM in 64-bit Windows 8.1.
I'm hoping to get quite a bit of performance on this next computer cause hey... I'm planning on using it for gaming and such. But also web browsing and chatting with friends. I hear how High performance is suggested for 'optimising' Windows 8.1 but how much safer is it...
And how much of a performance increase could I possibly see in comparison to the old rig?
After installing the 8.1 Pro update on a fresh install of 8 Pro, I only entered the Power options one time: to change the "high performance" plan to never turn off the display. (as I usually do when setting up windows)
Today, I noticed my display turn off after a few minutes, so I went to see if something had changed my power plan. To my surprise, I have found that I now have over FIFTY copies of the High Performance Power plan! Many of them have different settings in minutes regarding when the display shuts off, and when the PC goes to sleep.
I can't delete any of them, as windows apparently considers them ALL as default plans. If I didn't create these plans, how did they get there? How can I delete them? I know deleting default power plans is dangerous and can cause errors so I just want to avoid another re-install of windows.
I have a Dell XPS 13 and the F3 button has a battery sign on it. Pressing it brings up some battery meter property . Is there any way I can change that to toggling between two of my Power Plans ("Power Saving, High Performance") each time I press?
View 6 Replies View RelatedInstalled 8.1 about a week ago and I'm fairly happy with it so far (after removing charms, going straight to desktop etc) however I have a few minor problems.
Firstly my windows keyboard shortcut key is not working (Logitech G15)
Secondly in power options there are no plans that I can change, if for example I try to create a power plan I get the message "Your power plan information is not available". Tried sfc etc but no problems are detected.
Finally it just seems slower in some respects vs win 7 x64 ultimate, especially booting up. SSDs are all trimmed and aligned and all drivers are installed.

I have an Asus K55N-DB81 running windows 8.1 and I decided to create a custom power plan. So I created one and went to "Advanced Power Settings" Option and then went to the Processor Power Management to change the Minimum CPU usage to 1% and the Maximum to 50%, I click Apply and Ok and X'ed out. I Closed the Lid, Came back to my computer and I checked to see if my CPU settings Changed back to 100% Minimum and 100% Maximum which it DID. I keep Changing it back but it keeps resetting itself ...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem where some documents that used to be on a drive appear in my Run menu dropdown/autocomplete in Windows 8.1 even though I never I never accessed them from the Run menu and the drive in question is no longer even mounted. I searched far and wide and tried many things, but none worked:
Clearing the two "Store x..." checkboxes in "Jump Lists" in the Taskbar and Navigation properties pane has no effect. It does clear my primary history, but the offending entries remain.RunMRU in the registry (generally offered as a tip for clearing/editing the history) does not contain these entries. I own my MSI laptop since last october. I have random BSOD's, I would say 1-2 per week, and especially when I am playing left fo dead 2 (2-3 per hour), and when I turn the high performance power plan on (5-6 per hour). I have a killer network card, and I heard that this card was the cause of a lot of BSOD. But I do not see the link between l4d2 and the high perf. power plan. I always keep all my drivers up to date. This is very annoying, I alwas leave my laptop on to download games on Origin/Steam, or to do other task and when the BSOD occurs, I am just wasting my time...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have three options in the Advanced Startup - Use a device menu that I believe are from the previous owner of this Surface Pro. I have ubuntu, linuxmint, and BestCrypt Volume Encryption. How can I remove those options since they do not apply to anything on this device?
I looked in msconfig and nothing but the normal Windows 8 is listed under the boot tab. Also only have the Windows 8 install listed when I run bcdedit.
First, some context: I have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE that came with Windows 8.
I've managed to get a working dual-boot system with Ubuntu 12.10. I can't remember exactly how I done that, but I remember that I had to disable secure boot. I think that the boot configuration those days was:
Secure boot: DisabledLoad legacy option rom: EnabledBoot list option: Legacy
This "configuration" worked perfectly for 6-7 months.
Then, one day (last week, can't remember the exact day), when I was using Windows 8 the computer crashed. I hard-rebooted and got this screen:
After executed boot-repair from a Ubuntu LiveCD dozens of times I've decided to eliminate Ubuntu temporarily and focus to get a system with Windows 8 working nice.
Then I used my recovery DVDs to recover the system. Yup, Windows has booted. But when I restarted first time I got the same error. Then I, digging a solution, pressed F12 after a reboot and got here:
The highlighted option allows me to boot into Windows 8. So I went to boot options (F2) and changed the following configuration:
Load legacy option rom: DisabledBoot list option: UEFI
Now I can boot directly to Windows without need to press F12.
But my objective isn't complete. I want to erase all Ubuntu entries from the seconds image and restore the legacy boot from the first imagem (because they worked before).
I did two things:
I erased all partitions related to Ubuntu (root partition and home partition).I created a Windows recovery disk (not a system recovery disk).
I used the recovery disk to run the automatic recovery procedure (I forgot the exactly name). I've runned it at least 10 times with no success. Then I went to command prompt to try the famous triad: bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot and bootrec /rebuildbcd. Still, no solution.
I went into my power options to change some of the advanced settings and most of them are missing? I am on windows 8.1 with a week old Surface Pro 3. I want to say I read somewhere that hyper-v can cause options to be missing, but I honestly don't even know what that is and I don't have it installed.

I was recently installing and checking out Window 8.1. Everything is going just fine and with stuff like Start8 and Modernmix i personally feel i can maintain my old and preferred workflow (so, for the rest i can enjoy any new features that are now available!).
Anyway, as i was installing some of my software (and migrating settings from Windows 7 for some of them)... i came to some game launcher i use for Arma 2 called PlaywithSIX.
I had to install it a few times and the update mechanism was a bit fishy imo. For example; i could not even select where i wanted to install the applications (no extra options nothing), it just went straight into my Program Files folder.
After my install debacle i decided to make sure the system tray icon would always be shown and configure it when i stumbled upon the following:
Appearantly the app made several system tray icon entries, for having been started from several locations.
Is there any way to clean these entries in regedit somewhere or something? I hate having double entries in there for no reason....
Heres the deal im trying to not shutdown my pc anymore or restart it as below screenshot i would like to remove those options (only those) where to edit the registry or any other file file to remove them (below screenshot : Remove Restart and shutdown).

The Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. System is a new Dell Latitude 10 ST2 Tablet running Windows 8. Have access to 9 other identical tablets, all configured the same and they all have the Troubleshoot Option. Have tried multiple methods of getting to "Advanced Startup" display (including Safe mode, 'shutdown /r /o', etc.), but all result in only having the 'Continue', 'Use a Device', and 'Turn Off your PC' options - No Troubleshoot. Other than missing this icon, system is working fine. Shy of wiping the disk and starting over.

I own an HP Pavilion DV7, usually when I leave the laptop to do something over night, I go into "Choose what closing the lid does" and I get the error saying my power plan info is not available. Whenever I try to create a powerplan it tells me the same thing, but when I hit next, it tells me it can't find the file specified. I have no power options at the moment. I tried resetting to defaults using cmd, rebooted, and the only power option I had (Razer Gamebooster) was gone, and had nothing after.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI got my new ASUS laptop on Mother's Day this year, and the first event happened a week later. I've had this same event happen 6 times since then as shown by the attached image.
I'm comfortable with computers but am not an IT person so I'm not comfortable performing tasks within my system unless I know what the heck I'm doing or why.
W7 forum said overclocking (it's not), heat (this last time it had been in sleep mode while I was out and within moments of waking it up it crashed), sudden loss of power (it's plugged in AND has 100% battery left) and so on. In other words, it doesn't appear to be related to any of those things. It just randomly happens.
1) why this keeps happening and
2) how to fix it?
I've been very disappointed in my new laptop since getting it; I've NEVER had such issues with a new computer before..and I thoroughly dislike Windows 8 and I doubt I'm alone in that view.
I'm looking for a way to automatically shutdown PC at midnight and turn it back on at 16h during work days (while I'm at work). Is there a way to do that in the built-in scheduler or is there an app for that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe power options on my computer have stopped working. The screen does not dim or turn off automatically and the computer does not sleep automatically.
I bought my HP Pavilion 20 all in one desktop two weeks ago and then power options stopped working a week ago everything else seems OK. I looked in the console and "balance" is checked, going further, all the times are set (display dimmed 5 mins, turn off display 10 mins, put computer to sleep 30 mins). A day or so before this happened I replaced the standard (rather cheap) wired keyboard and mouse with a Logitech k360 Keyboard and m326 mouse (both wireless).
I can put the computer to sleep using the keyboards sleep button. I also temporarily changed the "Put Computer to Sleep" section in Power Options console to "never" when "Windows Photo Gallery" needed to update the face recondition on my photos transferred from my old computer (it took over 24 hours). After "Windows Photo Gallery" had finished I changed it back to 30 mins and since then no power options.
Have power options set to never sleep but it still does after about 20 minutes and I need to re-enter password to get going again.

Is there a way to copy the power settings and apply them to any new laptop we build out?
Example:
Laptop 1: Power settings are set to never go to sleep, not require passwords on wake up, brightness set to max, disable adaptive brightness.
I am hoping to be able to run a batch file or something to accomplish this on every machine I build out.
I have Asus N550LF, always on boot or when i unplug the charger power management set to high performance which is causing the battery life to decrease ( wear level 7%), since i found out H.P. causes this i always set it to Balanced but its annoying to do it every time i boot up, any way to set it to default?

I go into Power Saver, "change plan settings," and try to change the "On battery" setting from "Put the computer to sleep: 3 minutes" to "Put the computer to sleep: Never." (I want to make this change because I have a Dell XPS, and it can have difficulties waking up from sleep.)
I've made this change a number of times, but after a while my computer simply reverts back to the 3 minute setting on its own. So, I leave the machine alone for a few minutes, I come back, and it's asleep...even though I thought I had changed the setting to 30 minutes. And in fact, I *had* changed the setting to 30 minutes; the computer is somehow reverting to 3 minutes on its own.
Use of the Power Saver Setting in Windows 8 lowers my pc temperature (at idle) by at least 6 degrees. Using this setting, my pc now idles at 27 degrees C. When I use High Performance, my idle temp is usually at least 33 degrees, or more. For those who have problems with their pc's running warm, this is just one of the things I've found which works for temperature lowering. My biggest impact on lowering temp was air cleaning the pc case interior - getting all the fuzzy balls out...... At one point, my idle temp was in the 50 to 60 degree range and I figured my disk was failing. After checking for a possible problem, I found much of the problem was my own maintenance procedure failure. So, if your pc seems to be running rather high, look around for the simple solutions - clean pc, use power settings, etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently experiencing this issue and it's really annoying. I just bought this laptop for 2 months and it's been working fine. Then suddenly this problem started yesterday. Generally every time I open up a game my laptop will automatically switch to Power saver mode and it causes some lags in the game. At this point I would Alt+Tab to desktop and switch it to "High Performance". Here's the annoying part, even though I have set it back to "High Performance", the laptop still works as it in "Power saver" mode, I can tell because the game is still laggy and slow. I tried to restart the laptop and experienced the same issue. I ran a Full scan by using Avast Internet Security 2014 and didn't detect any problem at all. What should I do?
By the way my OS is windows 8.1
