I have an Asus laptop running on Windows 8 that starts up to the initial Asus logo for a minute and then restarts over and over. I've already tried pressing f8 and it does nothing so I cannot get anywhere to attempt to fix the problem.
Unfortunately I do not have the Windows disk so I'm looking for a solution outside of having to buy another one and wiping the hard drive to reinstall.
I don't know why but it has randomly started doing this in this order-
1. I turn it on, it does the normal start up screen of "Toshiba" and the loading animation underneath.
2. After a long time of waiting it takes me to a black screen. It stays that way for about 5 minutes, sometimes it does not do this and skips to:
3. Blue screen of death. It tells me it is going to restart and stays on this screen for less than a second. It repeats all 3 of these steps and does not stop.

So, since yesterday, Windows 8.1 tries to boot, then gets halfway through, shows a sad face for a second, and then restarts. It does this again and again. Just get the message "Failure configuring Windows updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer" then "Configuring Windows updates, 30% complete. Don't turn off your computer".
Then it boots, does the same thing again.
I've tried booting from the install media, but Refresh doesn't work, nor restarting in safe mode. Weirdly, pressing F2 to load BIOS, which always used to work, no longer does, it just continues trying to load Windows.
I've got an oldish PC, around 4/5 years old, with Windows 8 installed. Its got a fairly decent processor (at the time), a Q9550. Intel DP43TF motherboard.
Using samsung chronus 7 laptop : Windows 8.1 64 bit OS.
On start up get the samsung screen then a blue screen with a sad face saying pc needs to restart. Then goes in a continuous reboot.
I tried using the Windows 8 recovery cd. But get on the screen press any key to boot from cd. but press any key has no effect and goes back into loop as before.
Press f2 to get to bios reset defaults, no luck either, tried f10 just get boot up order, unable to find what keys boots into recovery mode, f8 does nothing no safemode.
Windows was preinstalled.
A couple days ago, I was casually playing Warframe. Tried to alt+tab out to check an IM and my screen went black. Not sure what happened as I could still hear the mouseover sounds as though Warframe were still active. Fiddled around for a few minutes and couldn't get Task Manager to come up, so I decided to just hold the power button on my laptop until it shut down. No harm done, right?
When I booted back up, Windows greeted me with a "Diagnosing Your PC" message under the normal Toshiba boot logo. After it hung there for a few seconds, it moved on to the "Attempting Repairs" screen. Didn't take long for it to decide it wasn't too happy with me for suddenly shutting it down.
Since then, I've been stuck in an auto repair loop. So far I've googled everything I could think of, but it seems my efforts were in vain. Tried putting Hiren's on a thumbdrive and booting from there, and for some reason, Windows just boots right back into the auto repair screen. I've even wiped my 1TB external and put the recovery image from my work PC on there. That didn't work either. I've gone through every thread google's given me and I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall.
I should probably note that formatting is not an option for me. I'd try installing Ubuntu on my external, but since the recovery won't even boot, I feel like that'd be in vain.
So i have my friends Asus Laptop with Windows 8 running on it. Every time it strts up it displays the windows logo and after staring at a black screen for a few minutes it displays the message similar to Windows has encountered an error, (i'll update with the exact message when it pops up again) for a few seconds then immediately restarts to an asus logo with the message "Preparing automatic repair" and a boot animation, followed by a black screen, then it starts all over again. i can enter the bios settings by holding escape at startup but i'm not sure what i can do from there. is there anything besides getting the os on a flash drive that can be done?

I restarted the comp and this auto repair screen popped up and it freezes and just same thing over and over. the bottom of the screen is cut off and the only other window i can get into is the bios setup utility window. Cant get into any kind of safe mode nothing.

This laptop belongs to my Grandma (87 years old). **She did not make the recovery disk for the computer.**
I got to the Recovery options and it has been stuck at 2% for about 6 hours. Asus OEM X55C Windows 8
NOTE: Yesterday I told Grandma I would see what was wrong, but it would bug out, freeze, etc when trying to log into the administrator. The screen would go totally black and then freeze. So, the computer has shut down improperly several times.
However, it did repair the disk last night before I attempted this recovery.
My Toshiba laptop/Windows 8.1 installed a VLC Media player & Malware bytes today. I was instructed to Restart as 'drivers not working properly' & since then have been on the Automatic Repair loop. It says it cannot fix it - log file: C:WINDOWSSystem32LogfilesSrtSrtTrail.txt, & I tried a few System Restore points but that just says -

Thing is I can't get into Windows or my laptop to disable the antivirus program.
I don't have any CD or DVD & no product key as the disc has been misplaced.
My Asus UX32A has been crashing sometimes during shutdown/restart/hibernate since I updated to Windows 8.

The folder for the back up was named Sue_ASUS_bkup and it was mapped as "W". The backup tools > Win 7 file recovery only provides a DVD as a backup location. It does not show a hard drive nor the network location as options.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I had the same exact problem. When I would turn on my pc it would try to diagnose my computer, repair it, and then fail and find no problem. I didn't find any solutions so I did a fresh install. Now its happening all over again. I originally thought the problem was my OS and re installing would fix my problem. Now I think that my SSD (OCZ Vertex 450) might be the problem.
I think that disabling automatic repair could also fix the problem, but I don't want to turn that off and cause another potential problem if it wont stop the boot loop. I also have a hard drive which I could install windows on if I need to, but I am not sure my SSD is the problem and if it cant be fixed. I haven't been downloading anything lately, and I formatted both my SSD and hard drive when I did a clean install so I don't think the problem is a virus.
I have two PCs..a Dell desktop and a Sony laptop(Purchased last June) yesterday I received the windows 8.1 updates so I installed them on my Dell desktop, no problems, it installed it and shut down the PC just fine and I am on it right now..but with the Sony laptop its nothing but problems..I installed the updates, it reboots just fine, but when I try shutting down the laptop it just goes back to a loop like it keeps on booting up then crashes then I have to restore it to August 9th and then it shuts down fine..so I am not sure what is going on..is there a particular update that is causing this I wont install it I just cant figure it out and I have done the system restore 3 times already..it will say I have 32 updates to install(including 1 optional one) so I just installed 30 of them to see if it would work and then I shut down the computer and same issue so something Im installing is causing this problem
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Gateway machine was performing a windows update when the neighbourhood power went out. It was off for four hours. When I went to turn the computer back on, it said automatic repair the diagnosing your pc.....that lasted about 5 hours! Then a blue screen with options came up. When I went to pick the advanced options, I clicked accidentally on the first one and it rebooted into the repair loop again. Since it takes so long for the diagnostic part, when the blue screen came up again it was likely the middle of the night.
I saw it at 7:00 am and tried to click the advanced options but the computer had gone to sleep by then and so once again it got rebooted into the loop. Gateway refused to support since the warranty is up. I can't find a Recovery disc image for 8.1 to put on a usb stick, and I'm back to trying to find answers on my 12 year old machine running XP. I tried the boot to safe mode with alt+F10 but can't get that to work either. If I knew how to force a reset to factory defaults without being able to get into windows I would. I've been doing this for 3 days now and I was just starting to like 8.1 too...

Love it, works great, did what I needed to do, except blasted windows 8. Classic shell works wonders, but it's still not the same, in particular with troubleshooting issues. Thus is where my issue lies this time (As I have either fixed or found workarounds for other small issues).
Randomly my computer will "have an error occur" and restart. Sometimes it fixes it after once (although not usually) sometimes I have to do a system restore (and today that didn't even work.)
Once when it restarted it went to a black screen and never reloaded the OS today. Finally, randomly, it just worked. What irritates me is that I did a system restore from a few days ago and it didn't fix it, so now I have to redo my settings changes on some programs and such.
A system refresh, both times I tried it (First a few days after I got the desktop, I just assumed it was a bad first install) and once not too long ago) fixes the problem. At least temporarily.
I JUST disabled driver signing (because it annoys me and wouldn't start anyways) and restart after failure (which it still restart a couple times which is even more annoying) and hybrid sleep has been disabled for a while since it has been known to cause problems and I don't use it anyways. I hadn't had the problem since I did that for about a week until a couple days ago so I assumed it fixed it.... but, alas no dice.
Since I have installed windows 8.1, every time for example if I don't use my laptop for 10 minutes, and because of the battery saving setting plan, my display turns off. Before I installed windows 8.1, I could just move a mouse or press any key and display would turn on, but since the installation I have to restart my laptop (Samsung ultrabook), even if I can hear it's on and working.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was using the computer, when the power went out for like half a second, the computer ended up restarting, and while starting up, the power went out. When the power came back, I wasn't able to get past the Blue window's icon with a swirly loop on the bottom.
I've created a repair install thing and placed it on a flashdrive, and I've booted from it and tried to do system restore. After around 4-5 hours, a blue screen pops up and said something about window's encountering an error. (Too fast to catch what else it may of said)
What can I do to make my computer work again? Should I try to do another system restore. Also how long does it take to boot from the flashdrive? It takes me around 1 hour. Is it supposed to take so long?
I tryied to get into Safe Mode in Windows 8.1 x64 and got looped by Automatic Repair loop
I tryied everything but without sucsess.
Safe Mode didnt come up, and it stays on Automatic Repair loop -> Diagnostics every restart/boot, and c'ant get into windows.
How do i disable this?
I have a HP Pavillion Sleekbook 15-b002ee with Third generation core i5 processor 1.7 GHz, 500 GB Hard disk and 4 GB of RAM installed. Windows 8 came pre installed on it.
I bought this laptop 11 months ago and it worked fine for 10 months and then from the last month its presenting unusual problems. My disk usage is stuck at 100% and the laptop freezes and never lets me work or do anything. Heres what i have already done to solve the issue but have been unsuccessful:
1) I have reset my PC completely and reinstalled windows 8 using the factory setup. Didnt solve the issue, newly installed windows displays the disk usage 100% and the performance is same i.e the system freezes.
2) I have tried adjusting my paging file, no change made a difference to the performance of my laptop. The default system managed Paging file size is something around 3.89 Gb. Does my problem have anything to do with my paging file?
3) disabling the "Windows Search" and "Superfetch" services and still it didnt solve the problem.
4) I have also run checkdisk on my hard drive completely. It took me a complete day to do so but still no change.
5) Before resetting my laptop, an error called "Kernel_data_inpage(http.sys)" used to come on my upgraded windows 8.1. Whats the issue?
So what should i do? Is there any problem with my hardware? Is my hard drive having bad sectors and is that causing the problem?

The restart completes (doing very rapid checks), and after a minute or so Action Center displays the same error again. This happens every time I start the computer. Sometimes the computer boots straight to the Start screen, and sometimes it boots to a blue screen with the option of sending a report to Microsoft before completing the boot. Sometimes it sends a report with no action required.
I have checked the hard drive using PC Checkup with MyDell, and with TuneUp Utilities, and no errors are reported. Using CHKDSK C: /f /r /x does not complete, but gets stuck at 13%.
I have also used chkdsk to check the two USB external drives that I use, and no errors are found.

I've installed windows 8 just now and after I install drivers it gets stuck in an infinite reboot loop. The motherboard is an ASUS P8Z68-V.
I downloaded the correct drivers from the Asus website and I've also updated my BIOS to the latest version.
I had the problem when installing the chipset driver from the asus website. I skipped this one after a reinstall and then installed the rest. Seems like that wasn't the problem. I read around but couldn't get any decent answers. I tried a memtest86+ and that came back negative. Next i tried to set the SATA settings in BIOS to AHCI/RAID/IDE, that didn't work either.

I saw that there were updates to be installed and I had to restart my computer, so I did that, and when it turned back on, I got the error message 'your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you'and it stayed there for less than a second and went straight to a black screen where it doesn't do anything and basically forces me to manually press the power button to shut it down. It has been doing this in a loop for 5+ times, and I don't know what to do.
This is a laptop and I do not have a Windows 8 installation disk. I have tried looking at every other thread from every place I could find and could not find one that didn't talk about using an installation disk, something I don't have!
my laptop (Asus A45V) is only 7 months old, this was originally from my father but since he isn't using it anymore he gave it to me. The problem goes like this, after he gave the laptop to me, i reformatted the laptop (reset to factory settings) then i noticed even after the reformat the laptop is slow. I tried to update every drivers and BIOS but the problem still persists. Sometimes it even hangs up and i can't do anything but to wait. And also i downloaded a game (which i truly believe the laptop can handle it since the requirements isn't that high end, the game's Heroes of Newerth) I can't even play it normally even on low settings the game runs very slow. I purchased an Asus x501a laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled at the beginning of the month. They sold me Nortons 360 which I installed. The laptop keeps freezing and if I look in the task manager the disk useage keeps reaching 100% every few seconds and lots of things aren't working properly; the internet connection keeps falling off, when using apps such as facebook it keeps freezing; internet pages are taking seconds to load instead of miliseconds. I can't believe this should be happening to a brand new laptop. Before I take it back I want to check whether it is actually a windows 8 problem (I suspect it is) as it uploaded 46 or more new updates to Windows 8 when I switched it on and these could potentially mean something else on the ASUS kit is outdated.
It is not a touch screen laptop (why would I buy one of those windows when I can successfully use my ipad and phone for this). The reason I bought a laptop is that I don't want touchscreen and just want an old fashioned computer to do use for work/other simple tasks. I will keep my ipad for social media use etc as the facebook app on windows 8 is designed for a touchscreen which I don't have! Maybe I should have bought something with Windows 7 on it??
I accidentally removed a usb cable from a powered usb hub , and a volume slider of some other program appeared superimposed and floating above my music making program , so I restarted the pc. From then on , it wouldn't start , and kept saying preparing automatic repair, then reached 40% and wouldn't go any further.
I unplugged my 2 external drives because they weren't showing in the bios , and plugged them into my laptop to check they were ok , and I am relieved to say they are.
Since i removed the drives , my desktop ( asus ) will eventually arrive at the blue recovery screen , but all these things that are supposed to fix it , aren't working.
When I try to refresh , it says the drive where windows is installed is locked. I've tried to do a system restore from 3 different restore points and none of them have worked ( one actually cited a mozilla profile as being the cause )
Re-image wont work because it cant find the image file , which is on one of my external drives which are now unplugged. Automatic repair diagnoses , but then says it cant repair. It also will not boot into safe mode.
I can use command prompt, and was hoping I could rename the system hive name , but the command prompt says
X=windowssystem32.
I've tried cd%windir%system32config , but it says " the drive , the path, or the filname is not valid" . I have successfully ran regedit from the command prompt .....
I had no reasons to expect anything untoward before yesterday. The automatic repair thing happened before , about 4 months ago , but i was always able to get out of it by switching it off at the wall. Now that doesnt work and its in an endless loop .
I have hirens bootcd but there are a lot of things on it that i dont know how to use. I was able to get mini xp working via hirens but couldn't access system restore.
I have an Asus UX31A with WIndows 8 Enterprise VL. Every time I wake the system from sleep, I hear the system chime as if a device is attached, unattached, and re-attached. I don't know what as it happens at the login screen and I'm not fast enough to see if anything appears in the taskbar.
After logging in, I get this window (see below; I had to remove a couple things I don't know if I can show). If I follow its directions, I restart and go about life until I put the system to sleep again in which the process repeats. As I write this I'm finishing a bunch of updates so perhaps that has something to do with it (I have a lot of Office and SP1 for SQL Server that I've been putting off along with a healthy swath of optional OS updates).
When my computer restarts, it seems to never end. I once waited 20 minutes for it to restart but it was still at the same screen. Now whenever it goes into restart, I just hold my power button until it shuts down. I don't think it's good for my laptop so I want to figure out a way to have a fast restart. I got this laptop 3 weeks ago and it always had this problem. My old laptop restarts in under 2 minutes.

I've tried using the touchscreen to undo the zoom but that doesn't work. When I open up the internet in the desktop mode the screen is normal size. How to undo the zoomed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to windows 8/8.1 x64 i have twice had this situation when during boot up windows tries automatic repair & fails , every time i restart same repair fail happens , its stuck in this cycle , neither "Refresh" or "Reset" option works , . I have to do a fresh format & install , loose all my files stored in the OS partition , I even tried to recover the files using linux boot cd but the folders were inaccessible/corrupted .
I tried every solution i could find to make it boot including Unable to refresh or reset PC after Automatic Repair fails in Windows 8 but nothing worked .
This has happened twice in the one year since i have been using Win 8 , Is there any way to avoid this from happening i future ?
Acer Aspire V5 is the PC I am using. I turn it on, the boot fails and the pc restarts. Then begins an automatic repair, which crashes and the PC turns off. It is a loop I cannot get out of. I don't have a Windows 8 Disc or anything like that.

"Your computer ran into an error and needs to restart. We are collecting some info, and then we'll restart for you"
I have done only 2 major changes to the laptop. Firstly, I updated windows 8.1. Secondly, I moved some space from local disk C to D. Why is this error caused.
1. Is the error caused due to windows 8 (or) some driver files?
2. Is it because of some deleted windows files? (Although I have not deleted anything!!)
3. Can a simple re-installation of windows 8.1 solve this issue?
4. Is it because of some hardware issue?
