Whenever a system notification pops up, or if I install something, Magnifier opens up. When I try and close it, windows suddenly lags to the point where my mouse is extremely sluggish and stuttering. I have to wait a good ten seconds before I regain control of the system. In Ease of Access, I have nothing checked.
View 1 RepliesYesterday, I just finished installing my programs on a new Dell Laptop running Windows 8.1 Core Edition. All the Apps worked a few days ago when I last checked them. However, yesterday most Apps would crash to the desktop on opening. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all of the Apps and they now work apart from the People App.
The People App opens, synchronises with my Hotmail account and I can search and display contacts. However, when I click on All Contacts or search alphabetically, the App crashes to the Desktop (see enclosed error report).
Strangely, the People App works in other accounts on the same Laptop. I've run the Fixit apps.daigcab which found several errors and fixed them. I've also run SFC /SCANNOW which found no problems.
My father accidentally fell for the "your media player needs to be updated" and downloaded a ton of malware.

And now it is running EXTREMELY slow and it can't load any Windows services on the computer. Any time I try to open a program it just stops responding.
Also while I was doing the malware removal "Safe mode with networking" was working fine. Now in the same "Safe mode with networking" the network isn't working. No internet available.
I am getting an error message "Failed to connect to system event notification center"
All the malware still isn't gone from Chrome but I need to fix this problem first.
I recently installed a windows 8.1 for my client and because of her eye magnifier is been utilized a lot, but my problem is when you zoom to 250 the icons and letters are all fuzzy and she doesn't like it. I have tried all my troubleshoot techniques(cleartxt, screen resolution, uninstal/reinstal monitor driver and graphic drivers ) but these seems not to work for my ,i brought the monitor home and I put with my computer it looked better but my clients looks worse when I returned it.

When I open the recycle bin, I can see the files for about 2 seconds and then it seems the system crashes and refreshes/restarts. As soon as it opens, the little blue circle is there spinning.
I tried pinning a Recycle Bin tile to the tile screen and it does the same thing, whether I am in desktop mode or tile screen.
I have tried clicking on "restore all files" quickly when the Recycle Bin is open, but nothing is operable.
I have rebooted, I have checked for updates, and cannot fix it as of yet.
My Sony Vaio Tap 11 (model: SVT1121C5E) runs very unstable ever since I bought it about 3 months ago. Almost every day the system crashes, sometimes multiple times. Sometimes with prior bluescreen, Windows colleting data and then stopping at 100%.
Occasionally the device shuts down and automatically restarts.Sometimes the screen becomes black and the device can be turned off only by holding the power-button for a few seconds.
I'm running Windows 8.1 and all the current device-drivers, bios-update and Windows-updates are installed.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having stability issues with my system in my sig. I've recently swapped out the motherboard to the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2. The system passes 10 tests on Intel Burn Test on maximum and also passes tests on Passmark Burn In Test. However, when I run OCCT the system will test for about 1 hour and then crash no bsod or restart just become unresponsive to any commands.
Aside from Prime 95 do you know what else I could try to test my AMD 8350 CPU with? The CPU is running at stock speeds and at default settings within the BIOS.
I have a problem here with my Windows 8 pro. Whenever I open the system property (by right clicking on Computer > Property or directly from Setting > Pc info), the mouse pointer starts to flicker and slows down its movement then the desktop goes blank with the blue (or whatever) colour of the background. Then after some time it again returns back to normal but system property is closed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt is just a matter of time before the system crashes. Sometimes I can play a whole evening without a crash, sometimes it crashes every 5 minutes. It does not seem to coincide with what happens in the game and it can be an old game with minimum graphics or something else on max, the crash is the same. As it crashes, screen goes black, it generates a hum on the speakers, and all I can do is to push the power button until it shuts off the power. Another problem is that there is NO dump file whatsoever. Minidump settings are all validated, but no dump gets created. I hope the SF debug Tool is enough.

I've updated all drivers, ran memtest, even ran prime95 (was oc'ing recently but the crashes were happening before that) and everything checks out.

This crash has happened a few times before the overclock as well as after, previous to installing 8.1 (upgraded from 8) the overclock was running stable for nearly 3 months. I rarely go over 60c and have been able to run prime95 for long periods of time during testing it without problems, as I said the crash happens at stock speeds too! So in short I don't think its related to the OC.
I have windows set to a minidump but when the crash happens I don't get the BSOD screen but rather just a screen in a random colour.
Recently installed Windows 8 on my machine, and for some reason, the "+" key on my numeric pad (under minus, above enter, etc) doesn't add or hit "plus", it opens Computer, instead! This is really inconvenient, as i use my computer's calculator a great deal.
I've tried a different keyboard, and obviously tried toggling numeric lock - no avail.
I'm trying to set up a miner for a cryptocurrency and to do so I have to start a .cmd file. However, instead of running in command prompt, it only opens in notepad. I already tried this: Default File Associations - Restore in Windows 8 and I get the message that some keys are open by the system blah blah or I have insufficient privileges (I am the only user on my computer).
I also tried going into regedit and deleting any extension associates (not sure if correct name), but there was not one of .cmd, and when I tried creating one and pasting the cmd reg file I downloaded into it, it didn't let me.
I also going through set associations in control panel and setting command prompt to being the default program, but it just says "The program you have selected cannot be associated with this file type. Please choose another program."
I was wondering if it was possible to get the old, unobtrusive low battery notification from Windows 7 on Windows 8? As it stands, whenever I hit 10% battery, this huge bar pops up right in the middle of my screen and minimizes anything I might be working on. This is fine in most cases, except for when I'm gaming and end up running off a cliff while trying to get the game window back up. -_- Is it possible to just have a little popup appear above the taskbar when my battery gets low, like in Windows 7? I'm really trying to like Windows 8, but stuff like this is unacceptable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 8 desktop computer with 2 monitors attached. I can span the desk top across both screens. I use this for document editing, picture file, etc. No gaming. When I span a program across the 2 screens (say Xn View for my pictures) if a dialogue window comes up (say to save a picture), it usually comes up right in the middle of the desktop which is where the two screens meet. This makes it a little difficult to read and I end up dragging it to one side.
Can I change where these dialogue windows come up? I really don't care which monitor they are centered on, just as long as they don't span the middle where the screens come together.
Whenever I restart my laptop, This little thing on the uppermost left side of my laptop appears. Would this be a threat to my laptop? what can I do about it?

In Windows 8, I opened for the first time a video, with the video app.
It opens in full, maximized screen.
In Win7, for example, when opening a video (with WMV) the usual minimize, maximize/adjust size buttons appear in the upper right corner of the active window.
I want to be able to click on, with my mouse, the maximize button (wherever it is) and adjust the size of my active window.
How do I do this in Windows 8?
Since last night, I've had this Automatic Maintenance notification randomly pop up in Action Center which simply refuses to go away:
I've already run the maintenance multiple times, and it seems to complete just fine, but the notification never goes away and it always tells me the maintenance was delayed after it supposedly finished:
I've also gone into Task Scheduler and manually run the Regular Maintenance task per the solution here, but no dice. Also rebooted the system many times.
Ok, so here's what I keep running into.......I turn off UAC, and within a few hours I start getting a notification that I need to activate Windows 8. It's a legit install, and this only happens when I turn off the UAC.
If I turn UAC back on, then the activation is not a problem and all is good. However, if I try to re-activate with the UAC off, it runs into an error.
When I try to activate Windows 8.1 Pro, I get a messege" Windows is in notification mode" .

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just started using Windows 8 and I am getting a steady litany of system sounds that are indicating something, but without any popup, what they are trying to say. I get a simple beep or multiple beeps every 4 to 5 minutes or so throughout the day.
It is kind of similar to removing or inserting a USB device in 7, but not exactly. So I detached all USB devices and I am still getting the sounds.
I recently upgraded my W7 Home premium to a genuine copy of 8 Pro that I got through school and now every time it boots, note pad opens up and has a smaller window saying "Access denied." I don't see anything funny looking in the start up section of task manager and everything in 7 seemed to be good and virus free before the upgrade.
