Tablets :: Disabling Charm Bar Appearing With Touch Screen Swipe?
Jul 31, 2013I've read quite a few posts concerning the charm bar (read: disabling it). These posts all seem to focus around the touchpad settings.
However, what I want is to make sure the charm bar doesn't appear when I'm (right edge) swiping my touch screen.
Windows 8.1 Swipe Instruction Panel?
Oct 22, 2013Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 each of the Metro apps has this annoying instruction panel about using swipe. It comes in from the left and the right and covers up items that I need to reach. It doesn't go away on it's own.
Is there any way to remove it? I don't have a touch screen, but there seems to be some need to constantly remind me that I can use swipe anyway.

Every time I open any 'metro app' this window pops up and doesn't exit until I close all metro apps. As you can see, it blocks a lot of things making almost any app unusable. Plus it's annoying. How do I turn it off?
The kicker is, when I try and swipe in from the side nothing happens... I don't know who goes around swiping with mice, but there you go, apparently it's a feature.

Aug 19, 2013I bought one of these Logitech Touch Lapdesk N600 Review | Everything USB It has a slide out touchpad and it is really really good as it is big -- BUT -- I can't get it to do the swipe from the edge thing to slide out the Charms bar (if that's what it is called) Of course I can use the keyboard to slide the bar out, but I'd like to be able to use the trackpad. The built in trackpad on the laptop does it, so I don't think it is unreasonable to expect the N600 to do that too. Or is it?
I have tried the "latest" software but that has made no difference.
how to make this happen or is there a better USB/WiFi trackpad I can get that does?
When Select Photos Tile On Screen Another Black Screen Appear With Blue Square Icon
Jul 10, 2014Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.

Dec 14, 2013I've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:

It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.

About five days before that I have reinstalled my Mobile Intel 4 series driver and now in Device manager it shows 3 grayed out monitors which were installed when I have reinstalled the Video driver. The monitor driver that Is currently loaded was installed when I installed the OS itself.

Nov 20, 2012My PC was working fine before today, until I used Ultra UXtheme patcher for Windows 8 x64 and then applied a custom VS for Windows 8.
After a restart, Windows Explorer was not launching, so I opened task manager and did a sfc /scannow. After a reboot, I get to the Windows 8 boot menu (I have a dual-boot on this HDD with win7), and then the screen just turns on and off every few seconds, with the numlock light flickering with the screen.
I tried using the automatic repair, both from the boot menu and from a backup USB, but it does not detect anything. and I still have the same issue.
I restored the backups of uxtheme.dll, uxinit.dll, and themeui.dll, but that didn't work either.
Attached is my ntbtlog.txt.
There is no BSOD, the HDD keeps on spinning a few minutes after boot, and the numlock keeps on flashing. Anything else I can do from my win7 install? I'm currently trying to delete the theme.
Deleting the theme doesn't work, safemode doesn't work either. It seems to be a driver issue, but there were no driver updates when it was working?

I have one SSD 120gb in the C:/ which it host the operating system and some minnor programs, in a HDD which is my D:/ drive there I have my games.

Windows 8 Pro / Screen Goes Black And Back To Lock Screen
Nov 10, 2012I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. . why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

Jul 10, 2014Every time I Restart my Laptop, the Lock Screen does not show the Welcome Screen and skips directly to the User Account login screen. Actually, it shows a darkish blue screen for a couple of seconds and then jumps to the user account login.
When I use the logout function or the shutdown (and I power it back on) everything works normally.

Twice I've been on the desktop and I never got a low battery warning. To test I made sure I was on the Start screen and sure enough the warning popped up. Also, when I switched over to the desktop the battery icon showed the exclamation point where I don't think it ever did when always on the desktop.

Getting Apps Screen When Try To Go To Start Screen?
Mar 18, 2014As I understand it, when I it the Windows key or mouse-click lower left while in the desktop, it is supposed to take me to the Start Screen. Indeed, it did work this way for some time. However, now, when I do either, it takes me to the Apps Screen and I have to do something (one of several) to switch to the Start Screen. Once there, if I hit Windows key or click lower left repeatedly, it goes Start Screen -> Apps Screen -> Desktop -> Apps Screen -> Desktop, etc. I think this is wrong. It is certainly not what I want; but my searching has not run across any other mention of this behavior. I don't want it to go to the Apps Screen when I hit Windows key or click in lower left. I only want to go there if I specifically do something to get there from the Start screen. (E.g., little arrow, Ctrl-Tab) How do I get back to the Start Screen being the default choice between these two?
The behavior changed some time after I upgraded to Windows 8.1; but I am not sure if it was immediately after. I suspect not. I've only had the computer for a week, so I am still becoming accustomed to Windows 8. (Coming from XP and 7 and having read a lot of negative comments, I was expecting that I would hate Windows 8. As it turns out, I don't understand the presumed problems. The functionality of Windows 7 is still there. The Start Screen is actually nicer than the Start button
Getting Black Screen Right After BIOS Screen?
Jul 25, 2013I have the Thinkpad X230t and normally run Windows 8 x64 with touch just fine. I installed the preview version of Windows 8.1 x64 today. The installation completed quite OK.
At the end of the installation, the installer tries to "set up my account" but then says that it cannot do it at this time, and that I can do it later. I said OK, then log on with my usual Microsoft username and password. Once I'm in the desktop, a message popped up saying Windows cannot find my profile in c:windowssystem32 ... a place like that. This message repeats when I tried to open Desktop, Downloads, or Documents.
I then tried to do a few things in Windows 8.1, but responses were super slow. I then restarted the computer but it froze in the blue restart screen. I then forced a manual restart.
Now I get a black screen right after Bios screen ("Press Enter to interrupt Normal startup"). No flashing cursor, just a plain black screen. None of the keys are responsive, except Ctrl-Alt-Del which will restart the computer, and the same thing happens.
Since I don't have a DVD drive, I cannot boost using the Windows DVD.
Screen Jumps Up And Down?
Dec 23, 2012After I tried to update my screen jumps up and down so quick I can't even click on anything. I on another PC now running Windows 7. If I had it go over again Windows 8 would never be anywhere close to one of my PC's. I try to update and then it goes back to reverting and then to the desktop and then back to reverting. Finally it will go to desktop and when you open something it starts jumping up and down. I'm about to throw it out the window.

I then close the task Manager and I can run any program I want. Some I don't have a desktop icon I just go the program files and select the one I want. Also my grandson uses this PC.
