View 3 RepliesI'm currently experiencing this issue and it's really annoying. I just bought this laptop for 2 months and it's been working fine. Then suddenly this problem started yesterday. Generally every time I open up a game my laptop will automatically switch to Power saver mode and it causes some lags in the game. At this point I would Alt+Tab to desktop and switch it to "High Performance". Here's the annoying part, even though I have set it back to "High Performance", the laptop still works as it in "Power saver" mode, I can tell because the game is still laggy and slow. I tried to restart the laptop and experienced the same issue. I ran a Full scan by using Avast Internet Security 2014 and didn't detect any problem at all. What should I do?
By the way my OS is windows 8.1
I have turned sleep mode off in power settings and turned off requirement for password yet after no activity within a very short space of time I am required to log back in. How do I disable these functions for good ??
View 6 Replies View RelatedUse of the Power Saver Setting in Windows 8 lowers my pc temperature (at idle) by at least 6 degrees. Using this setting, my pc now idles at 27 degrees C. When I use High Performance, my idle temp is usually at least 33 degrees, or more. For those who have problems with their pc's running warm, this is just one of the things I've found which works for temperature lowering. My biggest impact on lowering temp was air cleaning the pc case interior - getting all the fuzzy balls out...... At one point, my idle temp was in the 50 to 60 degree range and I figured my disk was failing. After checking for a possible problem, I found much of the problem was my own maintenance procedure failure. So, if your pc seems to be running rather high, look around for the simple solutions - clean pc, use power settings, etc.

View 1 Replies View Related it happens from yesterday, the problem is when I playing games on my Dell inspiron N4050 and then the main power where the charger pluged in is turn off (it is the most problem in my country that there is heavy short fall of power), the laptop is remain ON just for 2 or 3 seconds and then its suddenly OFF. its not happening before, why is that,? why is the laptop didn't get power from the battery.?

when not playing games. and the main power (electricity) is gone, then this problem is not occurred.
When Windows 8 is shutting down, it won't turn power completely off. The HD-led is lighting allthough the power-led has turned off. If I then press powerbutton, nothing happens. I have to take power-cable out of the wallsocket, wait about 20 seconds until the HD-led turns off. After that I can again turn my PC on as normal.
Booting into Windows 7, and letting it shut down, it works normally.
Is this a driver issue with my mobo? (ASUS P7P55D-E) ...
So, I have a computer I built myself specs being: AMD FX-8350, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, AMD Raedon 7900 HD Series, 4x4GB 1600MHz, and Windows 8. I don't feel as though listing the other parts are necessary. Anyways, my problem is that whenever I leave my computer idle it goes to sleep. Only problem is, if it's for a long amount of time I can't wake it back up. I have to not only turn off the computer, but instead unplug it and plug it back into the power.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my computer there is a pre-installed Windows 8 which works fine for UEFI boot (Secure boot not necessary).
Now when I switch in UEFI setup at boot time the UEFI mode into the CSM (BIOS) mode and restart then Windows 8 is not starting any more.
As far as I find out an UEFI-based Windows 8 can only boot with UEFI mode enabled.
So my question is: Can I turn an existing UEFI based Windows 8 installation into an CSM/BIOS based installation (=a Win8 which boots successfully even when I enable CSM in UEFI setup) ?
If yes: How do I do that?
I have a Dell 15R Inspiron laptop running Windows 8; It has a Dell 1705 Wireless card. Suddenly after trying to check for Windows Updates my computer said it is unable to check due to an error. Tried to correct error without success. Then the computer began to go to airplane mode; I kept turning on wireless connection. Finally it went into airplane mode and prevented me from turning the wireless connection back on.
I checked and found a message the ethernet cables were unplugged. I checked my network connection and it is fine. My tablet and printer are connected wirelessly and work ok. I reset the computer to factory default settings. I tried many Microsoft's solutions from their forum and nothing works. The computer is 1 year old and I spend a lot of time fixing problems that arise through no fault of mine. I am totally dissatisfied with Windows 8 and 8.1.
DVD drive is powered off, Lenovo X230, Windows 8.1 64 bit and found that in the safe mode (minimal), the problem does not exist. For trouble I decided to try other options of safe boot to have further information. After restarting in safe mode "Active directory repair"', I can not turn back to Normal Startup. I see only pure blue screen with only one button with restart and shut down, there no any key on the keyboard who work, left click not working too. And I can not access to msconfig and startup manager to change this setting.
But I have a bootable disk and I can edit registry but I do not know what do I have to do to get back Normal startup.
The keyboard of my laptop was broken so I cannot use "Fn" key to switch on the laptop's wifi adapter. I am sure airplane mode has turn off my wifi because there is no light. I tried to use "fn" of osk but that didn't work..
The last time also happened to me last year, but that time my keyboard still functioning so I able to solve that problem. But now my keyboard not working, is there any shortcut/application/bat/vbs method to turn on without using keyboard?
Since only Pro & Enterprise have the secpol.msc snapin I have been looking for a way to turn off running administrators in approval mode on Windows 8 Core edition.
This is so Windows works like it did with Vista & 7 (ie. Elevation with zero restrictions.)
The computer turn off the wireless connections and defaults into airplane mode. I had this problem with Windows 8. The option to easily toggle airplane mode on and off become grayed out unchangeable. The only way I found to temporarily fix the problem was to rightclick the airplane icon and then troubleshoot the wireless connections which would then turn wireless back on. I had the option to upgrade to 8.1 and I did and it fixed the problem for a while. It did happen again which is why I'm back on the web searching for possible more permanent solution for this. Luckily it only happened once a week ago and hasn't happened again. I was wondering if this bug was known about and if you possibly know of a way to fix.

View 4 Replies View Relatedissue with my laptop where I can't allow it to enter sleep mode or else it will restart/appear to have restarted the next time I wake it up. At first I thought it might be a power options issue, but I made sure that the computer was set to sleep and not restart when I close the lid. I've checked the bluescreen viewer and the cause of the restart seems to come from a driver power state failure coming from ntoskrnl.exe+1fcc1e, hal.dll+6a37, and storport.sys+33f0.
I've already run sfc/scannow to check for damaged files and I was also able to replace them using a DISM command, so now scanning the computer doesn't run into any errors, but this driver error still persists.
Sidenote: The driver errors mainly started after I reinstalled Kaspersky onto my computer to fix some issues that I had with it. Before that I was getting a couple of kernel data inpage errors, the latest of which occurred June 1.
I recently purchased a DVP8 and I love this thing. Problem is, it suffers from wifi issues in that once it goes to sleep, the wifi automatically goes to "limited" and I need to retoggle the wifi setting to get it connected. I've tried all kinds of fixes - uninstall windows updates and reinstalling drivers, but to no avail.
So I basically said screw it, and set "sleep mode" to never on the power management option, and no more wifi issues. Seems like the wifi doesn't reactive properly when coming out to sleep mode. My question is - will this damage the tablet in the long run? In terms of battery life, I would think the main factor is the screen on time. I can just turn the screen off with a tap of the power button. Is there really that big of a difference?
I'm having a BSOD problem. After walking computer from sleep mode, within 1-2 minutes it will get a BSOD with the "driver power state failure" error and restart, but interestingly I never get the error the moment I wake up the computer. I'm using a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P with Windows 8.1 64-bit. I already tried uninstalling the Intel HD 4000 driver, restarting computer, and installing the one on Lenovo's site (as this was suggested on the Lenovo forum as a common fix) but it didn't work.
The problem only started occurring after one of the following:
- Updating Malwarebytes to latest last week
- Installing a Windows update last week (there were 3 installed components, 1 of them was an Intel HD 4000 driver update, forgot what the other 2 were)
- Updating GeForce Experience and latest NVIDIA Graphics Driver (337.88), it included NVIDIA PhysX System Software 9.13.1220

I am situated where I have to see my computer screen whether I am working on my computer or not, and so because the light hurts my eyes it needs to turn off the screen when I am not using it.
I used to be able to get the screen to turn off after a couple of minutes, and it would go black. But now for some reason I cannot get it to work.
These are my settings:
Control Panel/Power Options
Power Saver button is ticked.
Set on:
Turn off the display 1 minute
Put the computer to sleep 1 minute
Right click computer screen/Personalize Clicked on Screen Saver and chose BLANK and Wait 1 minute On resume display log on screen is not ticked.
When using a screensaver that is suppose to have a transparent background (be able to see what is on the desktop) it defaults to the background color chosen for the start screen theme.
An easy example is the bubbles screensaver that comes preloaded, the weird thing is when selected and you preview it, it previews with a transparent background you are able to see what is on your desktop, but when you let it run its time and it pops up on its own it replaces the background with the color theme you chose for your start screen.
How to change it to remain transparent? I've tried changing the background color of the start screen to transparent with Decor8 but the screensaver background still is not transparent.
Attached are the images of how it should look and how it actually looks.

When i booted it in safe mode, the screen is showing the right vibrant colors. When i booted it back to normal mode, the screen is greyish but strangely the mouse is showing the correct white color.
I have googled across numerous website but none of them bring me closer to the issue. I have read the thread, Personalize Suddenly Greyed Out but this is not what i encountered. The options or buttons or selections did not grey out, it affects the screen only.
I cannot afford a system restore because i shared this laptop with my gf.
My system (Windows 8) was shut down during a power outage, and now when I try to restart, I hear the CPU go through what sounds like the normal process, but there is nothing on my monitor. I've tried the CPU with another monitor, same issue. I can access the shared folders from another computer on the network, so it looks like everything starts up OK. Before I run down to the local repair shop, is there anything I can try?

I was having problems with my new computer (HP Envy m6, running windows 8). It was not signing me out properly and would not shut down. I thought that maybe I just needed to update the windows software. But upon updating the software and turning my computer back on it gave me a black screen with one blue box that says "Selected boot image did not authenticate. Press <Enter> to Continue. If I press Enter the computer the computer turns off (turning back on displays the same message). If left on nothing changes and it will continue to run the computer.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit and I have 2 LOCAL accounts - First is 'my' account which is administrator and pw protected Second 'Guest' account which dosent have any pw
Most commonly any member of my family goes in my computer under Guest account and here goes the fun..
For example I go to sleep i log out or shut down my pc.. member of my family turns on and in account login automaticly goes to my pw protected account, he/she has to press the little back arrow to show all the users and go inside Guest account. Now he/she has done work he/she shuts down the pc. In the next morning I power on my pc AND HE AUTOMATICLY logs in/goes into guest account, so i have to wait those valuable 5-10 seconds as he loads in(and yes this IS annoying if it happenes once or twice a day), then I need to press sign out and then I can press to my admin account write pw and login into my acc! So basicly he rememberes last user and automaticly logs in, if the user dosent have pw then he proceeds in signing in if it has pw then it stops to a pw..
How to change this? I want when i power on, he goes into account login screen(where he show all the accounts) and when I press the acc I want - as it always has been!
P.S. Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup from this turtarial I have check'ed the box from option one step 3, but guest acc dosent have any pw so its useless....
