How To Put URL On Metro
May 16, 2013I want to have an URL directly on Metro START-screen, but I can't figure out how to do it.
I can make a shortcut on the desktop as an URL, but how to do the same on Metro?

IE Metro tile is missing from my metro start screen. It's not in the 'all apps' list either. when I go to program default, it is set as the default browser. I went through all the checks in the tutorial on here, but at best, I can only get the desktop IE tile to pin to start. I would rather have the metro version tile on my start.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have many java programs that I use. I can make a shortcut to the desktop but is there a way I can copy these to the start menu (Metro). With programs it is easy - right click and it says pin to taskbar. With Java it seems not to be possible. There is no such option on the context menu.
I know you can not run Java in Metro but I'd like to invoke the JVM and my jar from the desktop - just like any other program. I've tried the jar and the shortcut but neither work.
My previous machines where XP and Win7. Win 8 was forced upon me buying my current Rig. It's Metro Interfacelooks like a Giant Mobile Phone! I installed Classic Start Menu. It however gets flooded over by a giant Metro Screen, (when it decides It needs something), and there is no official way out, apart from closing down the Application via Task manager. Writing a program with no way out was in my days classed as anti social program behaviour. Why does MS elevate this to desired behaviour in Win8? I would like to see this crap interface purged from my machine. If that's not possible, I'll install Win7. What, after all, was wrong with the Interface that served us well from NT via Win95/98 via Win XP,Vista, tru Win7. Metro is frankly a Pile of rotten Horse Shit! It requires re-training of all staff who were previously accomplished for up to Win7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter using Windows 8 for months now, I still have trouble recognizing certain apps right away. The reason icons work so well is it takes advantage of our in-built ability to recognize patterns. One look at an icon and we subconsciously know what it's for.
But a bunch of squares and rectangles...
I pointed this out to some people when the MS released the beta of Windows 8. And I honestly thought I'd eventually get use to it. But months after, I still have to focus a little more just to know which tile to press for what.
So i know windows 8 should have an icon that should replace the place that kind of like square bracket in this photo.

Metro app weather says it can't run if uac is off. Why Win 8 started giving that message, although I did have uac control off. Is there a fix other than having uac on.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm fine starting up in the Metro View. Panels and purple are friggin' great. Oh yeah. I love Windows 8.
But what is disproportionately annoying is that you HAVE to click on the [Desktop] panel with your mouse to get to the Desktop view that first time after a bootup. ???
Once you've done that, just once, THEN the Win key will work seamlessly to toggle back and forth - which is of course exactly how it should be.
Is it some kind of security protocol? Maybe if you delete the [Desktop] panel entirely you don't have access to the desktop view, thus allowing for some kind of Admin configuration for limited use?
Why? Is there a workaround? Is this a 8.1 thing and if I'd just shut-up the pain will go away in a couple months?

Is there a way to nest or embed Metro tiles so they act like folders? For example, Microsoft Office deposits at least eight tiles on my Start Screen. I rarely use any but Word and Excel, so I would like simply a generic "MS Office" tile that, when clicked, gives me all of the Office tiles.
I know I can make a folder from a bunch of shortcuts and then pin that folder to the Start Screen, but I'm looking for something that stays within the realm of Metro Tiles.
I am using a browser that starts up automatically in Metro. When I want to get a copy of the screen I end up going back to the Metro screen to start up the snipping tool and it opens in the Desktop, but I need it in the Metro area to get a copy of my screen in the browser. I have had to resort to the old fashioned way of getting a print screen and pasting it into Paint then saving it...
