I installed windows 8 and the tile animations are gone, so when i open a METRO app the tile just instantly enlarges and there is no animation i would like to know how to get it back i searched all over and the only things i can find are for the desktop mode and not the metro UI....
IE Metro tile is missing from my metro start screen. It's not in the 'all apps' list either. when I go to program default, it is set as the default browser. I went through all the checks in the tutorial on here, but at best, I can only get the desktop IE tile to pin to start. I would rather have the metro version tile on my start.
Metro app weather says it can't run if uac is off. Why Win 8 started giving that message, although I did have uac control off. Is there a fix other than having uac on.
the problem is that i have successfully upgraded to windows 8.1 professional and i dont know why my etro apps open and directly crash and after a while i found a little "X" in the downer right corner of the app while in web source apps or programmes(desktop programmes)works perfectly.
I have got a pc that my whole family use and I've just completed a fresh Windows 8 Pro installation.
I have created 2
accounts:-
I know that Metro UI cannot be disabled and I don't mind keeping it, but surely if I want to be able to lock the kids account, so that they don't accidently mess up, I should be able to at least stop them from modifying app shortcuts and lockdown the Metro Start menu?
I currently have loads of apps, such as Admin tools, WinRAR etc.
If I setup the Metro UI to the apps I want, how do I stop them from removing/adding apps or modifying the menu?
I am having a problem where the Windows 8 Metro screen freezes and the tiles do not update or can not activate them with the mouse. Using the shift key and restart I am able to set the computer to safe mode which will then boot and get to the Metro screen. I then go and uninstall the latest program or app that was installed and it will work fine after rebooting in normal mode. The it will happen again a day or so later.
After a recent Windows update I now have the desktop taskbar appearing when I go into Metro apps. It's annoying because it often hides some on screen info.
I prefer not to use the "auto hide" option and I have not enabled the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" option.
I've just bought a new Dell desktop computer which came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled. I like using the new Start menu (Metro) and want to avoid Desktop mode as much as possible now, to avoid confusion and flicking between the two modes repeatedly. My Windows boots into Start (Metro), as I want, and then I open an application, for example Firefox or Outlook. So far so good. However after closing any application, I'm returned to Desktop mode. I then have to click on the Windows logo in the bottom left to return to the new Start menu.
How to boot directly into Desktop mode, how to keep a desktop computer with a keyboard and mouse in Start (Metro) mode. Exiting an application should not return me to Desktop mode, it should return me to Start (Metro) mode.
Recently, my metro search hasn't been working. I usually go to the metro GUI and search for defrag, and click the "Defragment and optimise your drives". But, for some reason, when I click it, nothing happens, this also happens with many other system related programs like device manager, sound etc. I always have to use control panel now to use these programs. Other programs seem to work fine.
I have found myself more addicted to my laptop since I installed win 8 on it. Everything I read in the past about win 8 being more for touch screens I was like well I'm not going to upgrade my pc then but now that I have it i'm actually really liking it.
I like the whole metro side of win 8, I mean it really has me thinking. If I can have the same on all my devices I just may dump my Iphone and ipad. I'm assuming the apps on the desktop will be the same for the win 8 phone right? If that is the case, see you later apple I never cared for you much any way...
I have to be honest I don't like switching back to the desktop, I'm sure the desktop will be gone by win 9 or 10 once win eight takes off and third party software goes to the metro side.
One last thing I like to note is if Microsoft promotes win 8 for the phone, tablet and pc all together instead of saying win eight is for touch screens they blow this thru the roof!
I've recently upgraded to windows 8.1 and I noticed it has reverted all my language changes back to Chinese (Hong Kong). After redownloading and setting all the primary languages back to English in the control Panel I've realized that everything (even the login screen) is in English EXCEPT for some options in metro, how would you fully change this?
I'm on Windows 8.1 and I can't find this (metro/modern UI settings). Had made all of it pink at some point in the past, and don't use it much. Now I want to change it to a different colour because I plan to use it.
I open "Computer Settings" from the "charm bar", and for people making videos about it on Youtube, they have "Personalize" as the first option you see.
I can't find it. Clicking on Personalization inside the Modern UI opens up the regular Control Panel which doesn't have the modern bits in it.
When I do manage to open Personalization, it has only avatar, desktop and lock screen.
Just to clarify what I mean, I want to change the colour that's cerise/pink in the picture below.
Many peoples saying they cant close metro apps from Windows 8.1, and it constantly running.. So I made this video for that.. When u drag your metro apps below, hold it for 2-5 seconds !! and then WOW!!! its close completely!
Windows 8 Desktop. Somehow I have changed something and now my desktop windows will not re-size or move. When I initially open a program or browser it opens fine in a small window somewhere on the screen. As soon as i grab the title bar 2 outlined windows appear on screen in Yellow and Red. When I let go of the title bar the program snaps to one of the two positions, when I try to move the window it just keeps snapping back.
So the desktop programs now seem to be behaving as if they were Metro apps and displaying using Metro Snap. It is really bothersome. How I can revert back to normal Desktop operation?
Is it only me or do others experience a drastic slowdown of their PC after updating to 8.1? ever since I updated to 8.1 my laptop is slow and misbehaves in many and various ways.
It seems that the new update soon to be released is aimed at the metro users and if this is true then it is nothing short of infuriating.
My Desktop PC runs win 7 with classic shell and my laptop win 8.1 with classic shell. Any way to REMOVE totally metro from the OS? It keeps infringing whenever I open pictures etc.
it installs without a hitch, comes up, runs fine ... just don't try running any Metro apps because most of them won't work - the screen resolution I have is something like 1024 x 600 (fine for this device) but that's too small for most apps. The desktop is fine but virtually nothing else can be run outside that.
I like my little netbook but Windows 8 doesn't. I made an image of that drive becuase I'll be restoring that soon.
my computer started glitching everytime I opened the Windows Store or any other metro apps, I immediately found this forum. I have already followed most the steps on this tutorial, running the troubleshooter many times and restarting after each time.

Here is a screenshot of what happens everytime. I don't know if its clear, but essentially this weird thing happens where it doesn't load, and right off the start the splash icon, if you will, and its little circle loading animation all shift to the top left of the screen, just forever.
My Windows 8 is completely genuine so that's not the problem; when I first bought the computer, it came with Win 8 and the store worked fine. All of a sudden, the Skype app would load but be blank, and all the apps started doing this. I don't know what happened that caused this all.
EDIT: The screen shot was taken, uploaded to paint, and cropped to fit better, so the resolution shown in the picutre caption is not my computer resolution. My native computer resolution is 1366X768.

I can't open any windows metro app except internet explorer. I have used AppsDiagnostic.diagcab and it only shows that I have an outdated visual driver (I do not, I'm simply not using windows' own driver) and that I might have corrupted files (I already used chkdsk and nothing was picked up).
My biggest complaint about Windows has always been backing up application data.
Does Microsoft backup data like icloud for Metro apps? I have a windows 8 pro tablet, but would like to use more Metro apps, but only if backup and restore is as easy as ios icloud or Android titanium backup.
I have installed the ioWin8 Dev Preview on a HP Mini 210-1000 (twice) and it appears to install without issue but from the Metro UI almost all of the applications cannot be launched. Windows Explorer and Control Panel are the only ones that will launch, though the others do react visibly to being clicked on and they can be manually rearranged using the mouse and dragging.
Is there a Service that needs to be started or a configuration setting I am missing??
The problem I'm having with my copy of Windows 8.1 is that in some Metro apps the graphics will be very odd, for example, some things not showing up until I hover my mouse over it or scroll, things changing or disappearing when I move the cursor or go to new screens, etc.
This only really happens with the built-in Microsoft apps. I know exactly why it does it too. The apps aren't set to run only on the integrated GPU in my laptop, which has both integrated and dedicated switchable graphics. The Windows App Store was having this issue too, but when the AMD Catalyst Control Center notified me that the App Store had video/3D graphics and wanted me to set it, I set it to Power Saving instead of its original setting, and now it acts fine.
Here's my real problem: I can't set the other apps for the integrated processor, as I cannot find their executable files anywhere and the Catalyst Control Center is not asking me to set which processor I want for the applications.
When I try and use any part of the Metro UI, whether it be the Start screen or the sidebar, everything on the screen disappears when I mouse over something, and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del into Task Manager to get back to the desktop. Even when I move my mouse along the side, everything on the screen flashes.
I did a clean install of Windows 8 like 2 days ago and since yesterday I have noticed that when I am in "Metro" that some icons show up as just squares. For example if I right click on a tile that menu at the bottom will come up and all the icons above the actions are squares or half squares. The mute icon from the charms bar is also a square. I've put 2 pics up.
