Many peoples saying they cant close metro apps from Windows 8.1, and it constantly running.. So I made this video for that.. When u drag your metro apps below, hold it for 2-5 seconds !! and then WOW!!! its close completely!
I love how Metro IE11 works now in Windows 8.1. I was using a reddit app, opened an article, and it spawn a separate window for the IE browser to read a link. Works great. But one day, when it launched the IE browser, I was hearing a video that was completely unrelated to the link.
So I bring up the tabs and I had like 50 tabs open! When I close the IE browser that spawns from reddit or from a newsreader like News Bento, I just drag the app to the bottom of the screen to put away IE. That didn't terminate the tabs. So it was tedious to close each tab independently.
Since I've not installed adobe reader, the preinstalled Reader app opened for viewing a pdf file. What is the intended method to close Reader and other metro apps? I don't see any way to do that. I don't expect we are supposed to use Task Manager to close it.
When I exit / close [any program / application] I am presented with the old Windows 7 Desktop. Old W7 Desktop is the default when I close a program -- even if I started the program from Metro UI. I wish to see the Metro UI when I close any application. I do not like the extra keyboard press of the Windows key. How can I change Windows 8 such that I default to the Metro UI when I exit [close] any application?
I am using Windows 8.1,I use Internet Explorer in Start-screen, I closed it but when I open again, it openes the page I closed, not my homepage. In the desktop, I set "start with homepage" and I select "detele history when close".Store too, I open Game then I close, I reopen Store, it open Game, not its home.
I am running Windows 8.1 and IE 11. When I have multiple tabs open and click the X in the upper right hand corner I get an option that asks me if I want to CLOSE ALL TABS - CLOSE CURRENT TAB. I always want to close just one tab. How can I suppress the display of the Close All Tabs - Close Current Tab question and still be able to close just one tab?
I just completed a virus and malware removal session over in that forum. The computer is working great except that when I open games or music or camera they open then close and put an icon at the bottom of the screen. I use desk top view. The only game loaded is Microsoft solitare I have never used music or camera.

When I launch things like PDF files from a desktop application, it opens in the tile application of Windows 8. How do I close it and do other functions, like print and save, that I can do with the old desktop version?

I discovered that IE (user) - probably 10 as I'm sure I have that - is running in the background and preventing my computer from going to sleep.
I have just installed Windows 8 Pro onto an existing Windows 7 Pro drive allowing dual boot. The problem is whenever Windows 8 is running I hear a sound every now and then. The sound is the "close program" default sound "ring07.wav.
Yesterday did a clean reinstall of Windows because my computer was acting weird. It installed no problem but after a few hours of reinstalling programs I noticed that Windows wasn't activated, so I went to PC Settings and clicked "Activate Windows," but as soon as I clicked it the page closed. I tried again, reset the computer, tried again, but the same thing happens. I've also been getting a few BSODs which I'll make a separate post about, but how to fix the activation error?
I am running the latest edition of Windows 8.1 and have recently run into some problems. I have the Steam Gaming client installed on my system with a few games, one of which is Team Fortress 2. However, after I close certain games, that might run in fullscreen, and some don't like Minecraft, I can't open any other programs. Not task manager, I can't even shut down my PC. It's not just Steam items.
is there a way to make this happen? i mean when i push the wheel of my mouse when i put my mouse on the window on the taskbar the windows closes. is there a way to make this happen? jut like closing tabs in internet browsers.
How big this new 8.1 update is and can it be downloaded as an iso? Also, does it contain any driver updates. I installed Win 8 on a Vista machine and it runs well, except for an annoying blank flicker that occurs when I open and close programs. Tried both a Vista and Win7 video driver but made no difference.
When I close my lid, with the system set on not sleeping (just turn off back-light) and reopen it the screen remains blank. It happens even if I'm logged in, or not, or from sleep. So, basically, the display never comes back from being blank.
I tried updating all the drivers, I tried with the original ones, same problem....
There is two Com surrogates in task manager, they normally used to close automatically when I opened task manager, but now they stay open at all times. Screenshot: Screenshot by Lightshot
IE Metro tile is missing from my metro start screen. It's not in the 'all apps' list either. when I go to program default, it is set as the default browser. I went through all the checks in the tutorial on here, but at best, I can only get the desktop IE tile to pin to start. I would rather have the metro version tile on my start.
I am a long time user of XP and in the past year have taken the plunge into 8. Whenever I delete a folder in XP, if that folder is open in an explorer window, the window automatically closes. When I delete a folder that has a window open in 8, the window simply navigates to the default explorer location. When I an doing folder maintenance, I am basically ending up with a whole bunch of open windows.
Any setting I can change to make the window of a deleted folder close automatically?
I doubleclicked on an MP4 to play it (from Explorer) and this XBox Video thing came up and played it. Fine, looks like a nice player. But when I stopped it wanted to exit the application -- can't find a way.
Oh, I can switch to ANOTHER application, but how the heck do I close this thing down? I could bring up Task Manager and kill it there (I suppose -- haven't even seen if there is still Task Manager, although I assume they would not have gotten rid of that) but there MUST be a simple way to close out an app, right?
(If not I'm going to remove that app and make sure I never accidentally bring it up again).
Once something opens, even from desktop, it doesn't have a little red x in the corner and there doesn't seem to be a way to close it and return to where I was before. I can only either hit the windows button and go back to the page with all the apps, or swipe it down and do the same. But say I'm on desktop, I've got the internet open and I open up my pictures and double click a picture to see it larger- it then fills the whole screen and there's no way to go back to my desktop and what I was doing by just CLOSING it, rather I have to go back to the app page and then click on deskptop. Is there a way round this?
When modern Apps are closed, they can be made to close to the Start Screen. Is there a way of making Desktop programs do the same. For example: Firefox, my word processor etc.?
When a window is open and an attachment (to view pictures) or any additional window is open, i can not close the window "pane" i go to the upper left hand corner and try to drag it to the bottom but sometimes that wont work, another one was when the calulator was open i can not find how to close it if i opened it while having another window open.
1) Firefox always hangs (Not Responding) when I try to close it.
2) Sometimes I am unable to kill the process from Task Manager or Process Explorer (access denied).
3) Sometimes it leaves behind a zombie process that can't be killed. I cannot launch a new Firefox process (it launches but stays hidden). The only solution is to reboot my computer.
4) If I leave Firefox open, after a while it becomes nonresponsive. I usually need to reboot the computer for reason 3 above.
I have seen similar behavior from Internet Explorer and iTunes, but not all the time. I am focusing on Firefox now because the problem is very repeatable.
I have scoured the internet looking for a solution but have come up empty. The Mozilla web site suggests I disable all add-ons, which I have done. This does not fix the problem, so it is something else. I have Norton Antivirus and have scanned my system for problems but it is clean (tried Malwarebytes too, but looks good). I have tried disabling my antivirus software (everything but the firewall) and still get the same problem. I have methodically gone through and made sure all of my drivers are up to date.
I'm setting up a laptop. I have installed Classic Shell, and am working from the desktop.
My problem is that when I open up Google Chrome there are no minimise, restore, or close icons in the upper right corner as there are on my own computer.
That means that every time I do anything, like download and install CCleaner I can't minimise Chrome, I have to close all the Windows one at a time to get back to the desktop to see the install window.
In IE 11, if I click on a link on a page, then click the back arrow to leave that page, and go back to the original page, it takes me to the top of the original page, rather than were I was on that page. I think there must be a setting that controls this, but I can't find it.
I've recently noticed a Windows update that changes the way you close apps, amongst a number of other things.
What it was:
What it is now:
This update was unticked in the 'Update and Recovery' section. Every other update had a checkbox ticked, this one didn't.
Other changes bought along by installing this update:
- New applications in the 'Apps' section of the Start menu are now highlighted with a greybox. - Shut down options now in the start menu (and search, I'm not sure)
One extra thing that seems to be around depending on... something.
This one's related with Chrome. Usually when you start typing in the url box, your search terms are cut off with a rounded border going around. This box has disappeared with the latest update, but I have seen this happening in earlier versions of Windows.
