Audio :: Realtek HD Audio Driver - Keep Getting Error Messages That Force Computer To Restart?
Aug 21, 2014Recently I decided to go ahead and update to the Windows 8.1 version of the Realtek HD Audio Driver. I procrastinated because it told me I'd have to uninstall the original audio driver and I knew it would take a while to do everything needed. It didn't work that after uninstalling the original audio driver, then restarting like Windows told me to do, I kept getting error messages that forced my computer to restart until eventually my computer let me log in and install the updated audio driver.
However, with the updated version of this driver I had the same issue I got with the original one only much much worse. The original Realtek HD Audio Driver that I had on my computer made music and videos sound absolutely awful when headphones were plugged in. I found out that this is because the driver automatically puts on so-called "enhancements" whenever headphones are plugged in. This was a very simple fix, simply go to "Sound", then under "Playback" you click on "Speakers", then go to "Enhancements" and check the box labeled "Disable all sound effects." Then sound through headphones would return to normal.
Well, with the Window 8.1 version of this audio driver, I can do the same thing, but it never stays that way. Every time I plug in my headphones, it resets back to having enhancements. The strange thing though is that it says the enhancements are disabled but when I reactivate the enhancements(No difference in sound quality) then deactivate it again, suddenly the sound through my headphones is back to normal.
Did the audio driver not install properly? Is there something I can do to permanently disable the audio enhancements?
Setup Installation :: Win 8 Lockup While Configuring Drivers
Dec 18, 2013Installed windows 8 15 months ago. Hard drive hicuped and tried to restore with no luck. Tried to reset to an earlier install point with no luck. Reset drives and files through installer no luck. Went to command prompt and did format of drive and reinstalled locked up at the configuring drivers. Have all usb ports empty.

Oct 24, 2013I updated to 8.1 because supposedly, it was to offer features similar to win 7. Instead, it's even worse than win 8. Now, the sound quality on my laptop is lousy because the Dolby Audio driver receives an error message and isn't working. I went to Lenovo (I have a Ideapad N Series 580) and followed these instructions from Lenovo and microsoft, which unfortunately didn't work. I'm still getting the same error message. I wish I had never heard of windows 8.1! Many have had this same problem after installing 8.1. This instructions are from Answers.Microsoft, but didn't work.
Open Device Manager. (Right-click on the Start button and choose Device Manager).
Expand the Sound, Video and Games Controllers section.
Right Click on the Conexant Smart Audio HD item and choose Uninstall.
Still in Device Manager, click on Action>Scan for new Hardware.
The Conexant Smart Audio item will re-appear.
Right-Click on it and choose update driver.
Navigate to d:driversaudio.
When that's done, close Device Manager.
Open File Manager and navigate to D:driversAudioDolbyGUI and install Dolby Home Theater.
These instructions are from Lenovo and didn't work.

It's really annoying because I like to view Facebook and Tumblr for a while before I do something such as playing Team Fortress 2.

Oct 21, 2013In my HP Compaq Presario V3000 Laptop with Windows 8.1(32 bit) version, when I play a video such as Youtube, I do not receive any audio although video is played.But Device manager shows the message for 'Sound audio contoller' as 'HD audio driver working properly'. But if I disable Sound/Video Controller and then enable it, the audio comes back properly. But my problem is that every time I open the computer, I have to do this exercise if I wish to watch aan audio/video bit!

Jan 2, 2014I've created a Windows 8.1 partition separate to the original Windows 7 install. The manufacturer, Acer says the model is supported for the Win 8 upgrade. I did it on a second partition and simply installed the W8 drivers from their website. It uses Dolby Digital Audio V4. It sounds poor on Win 8 though, on the occasion that I boot back into Win 7 the difference is like night and day. Any icons in the try, apps etc. appear to be properly installed and loaded in Win 8 yet the audio quality from the speaker and with a headset is still degraded.

Jul 13, 2014For the past few days my laptop, a Windows 8 Samsung model with Intel core i5, has been acting up for the first time since I purchased it last year. I've been away on vacation for three weeks, and have not used it during that period, so when I returned the system naturally installed itself with new updates. But ever since then, my audio driver has not worked whenever I initially booted the computer (i.e. there is no sound); interestingly, YouTube videos also refuse to load. It is only when I restart the computer, or disable then enable the driver manually, that things return to normal. Or, at least, somewhat.
For when I try to shutdown the system, the computer hangs and just doesn't shutdown. It seemingly performs the processes required for it, the screen darkens, but the system does not power off. The first time I had to manually turn off the power, but last night I simply let it continue with the hope that it would shutdown eventually. It did... but only because my laptop battery ran out.
Before System Restore recommended, I tried that route already. No matter which restore point I used, the system told me that each restore was unsuccessful due to the possibility that my C drive was corrupt. I don't know if that's the case - certainly something is wrong - but I'm at a loss as to exactly what to do.

Sound driver status in device manager still has no conflict and Realtek Audio manager can detect only plugged in jack. I have tried to reinstalled audio driver without any conflict but still nothing in windows' sound.

I use to have matshita dvd ram UJ8A0AS and it did play blue rays. now i'm calling back and they are trying to tell me that my model doesn't play BR's. that's the reason why I bought my computer. their call center verified all that. so can I add that driver to my device manager.

Jun 22, 2014I've just set up a clean system installation (Win 8.1 PRo x64). As a part of it I obviously installed my printer driver. The printer is Lexmark E260d and I use Lexmark Universal Driver downloaded directly from Lexmark's webpage.
My surprise is that after installation I have two such printers available at my system:
- "Lexmark E260" - which is the name I gave during installation,
- "Lexmark International Lexmark E260d" - which is another device appearing as a printer.
Both drivers / devices (?) print correctly yet I can see some differences in their functionality descriptions, when choosing Properties / Hardware. Lexmark E260 device has there "Print queues" only while Lexmark International... device has three types "Printers", "Print queues" and "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Another thing is when I double click on devices icons in "Devices and Printers" window - Lexmark E260 brings well-known list of documents actually being printed and Lexmark International... brings printer configuration dialog allowing to see printing documents, customize printer setting and so on.
Why I have somehow two different printers appearing on my system? Should I remove one of them and which? How can I avoid duplicating devices when installing drivers?

Windows 8/8.1 seems to have a problem with this printer, even though Epson claims it is compatible and provides updated drivers. When I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1, it replaced my Epson drivers is a very basic MS generic driver. I had to manually install the Epson drivers again. That was a pain, and took several attempts. Is there a recommended way to install a driver that works?

I tried downloading drivers with Windows update which gives error code 8007000d while installing after successfull download while other software updates install fine. And finally, I tried to install it directly using executable but couldn't install. I also had problem with bluetooth software. All drivers installed fine when I installed the windows 8.1 but after few days, this problem began and now I am not able to install any of it. P.S. Mar 11, 2014this morning I was playing FIFA 13, charger not plugged in and I noticed there is a performance difference between plugged in and not plugged in. The game was laggy a bit. Then suddenly, my game crash with a black screen first then a pop up yellow exclamation mark warning appears, something about :

I restart my laptop and shut it down after some time. This afternoon I turn it on back and play FIFA 13 again but this time with the cable plugged in. The game was smooth now and the message earlier didn't appear. So this means I have to plugged in every time I want to play? Mar 29, 2014Installed 32-bit Win 8.1 onto a Dell D610 (Pentium M 1.86GHz 2GB RAM) and it really works very well. Except for one nagging problem - the 4 left/right click buttons do not work! I have tried several drivers and all give full touch pad functionality (scroll and tap/click) and the keyboard stick works - but both sets of left and right buttons refuse to do anything. All worked with Win 7, so I assume it is a driver problem. I currently have a Logitech USB wireless mouse attached which works fine, but I would like to get the buttons on the laptop functioning.
