Gaming :: Applications Trying To Communicate With Xbox
Jun 15, 2013
I have downloaded some basic games like Solitaire, Mah Jong, and Freecell. Every time I run them, the app tries to communicate with my Xbox. It just happens that I don't own an Xbox. Is there any way I can configure the games so they don't try this rather futile communication?
Ok so for the past few days windows 8 game app acts like its logged in but i don't get my friends list or my avitar and when i click on friends it says can't connect to xbox?, why is it looking for a xbox i havent had one those in a number of years. it use to work just fine i could chat with my friends and so forth see my gamer score and so on and now it just says can't connect to xbox? I can sign in threw the fable 3 game but it uses games for windows live and not the xbox game app on windows 8.
I accidentally logged into Xbox 360 SmartGlass with a different email account , now I can't find a way to logout .I want to be able to login with my actual account , I just don't know how.
I have just added another Win 8 machine to stable for my wife. It is 'Modern' all the way -- no Start8 or Classic Shell.
I have Mahjong installed on my own older Windows 8 Desktop and when I installed it on the new machine I must have done something differently than the first for I often get a request to sign in to my Microsoft Account and the then tells me sometimes that I have games saved out on the cloud and some locally and then asks me which do I choose. To my knowledge I have never saved any game anywhere on either machine.
Did I perhaps specify cloud storage somewhere in the setup process. How may I correct this little bothersome thing. My wife just came in and said her new machine reports 'connection to Xbox lost' or something like that while playing Mahjong. What does that mean?
I have two servers installed via HyperV, one is Server 2008 R2 and the other is Server 2012. I want to get them to communicate with eachother but I only have 1 nic onboard. I've setup an external virtual switch and have internet connection with my host OS and both servers (same connection) but I don't know what steps I need to take next to get them to talk to eachother and share resources. I also plan on making a few more VM's (Ubuntu/Fedora) and want to make them to talk to eachother as well (which will be a later question )
I have noticed that applications that are launched from the Metro IU load and run much faster than the same applications launched from IE under desktop. I have even created Metro tiles for applications I normally run as they load and run much faster than launching them from the desktop. This site (Windows Eight Forms) would not load from desktop IE but loads immediately from a Metro tile I created.
I am having some problems with 3 years old PC. Only while playing games (Civ 5 - Heroes & Generals - Rise of nations) I suffer from freeze/crashes, PC doesn't show a BSOD, the mouse pointer works normally it doesn't freeze (until I try to alt+tab or alt+ctrl+del), and from my speakers I can hear looping sounds.
The only thing I can do is a hard reboot. I try reinstalling windows, and the problem still exists. My BIOS, drivers* and OS are update, I perform a memtest for 6 hours and show no errors, I can run prime95 + kombustor and everything is fine, no temps problems, GPU never go over 68c and CPU at 58c, and no crashes.
DSIM commands show no errors neither.
*I tried latest NVIDIA drivers, and old ones, im actually using 334.89 version, and the problem persist.
It's been happening for awhile now since windows 7 through to windows 8 and i'm not sure why but it usually happens when i play games even with lowest settings, whenever it freezes it makes me have to force shut down manually.

I have a question regarding PC gaming, since I realy dont know as much as I would like to.
My question is what role does my CPU play in gaming? Is it a big thing? I always thought that having a strong, powerful graphics card was more important that a powerful CPU.
Is there a particular thing that the CPU does in PC gaming that makes having a strong one essential?
Okay, this is the second time with a different game this is happening, at very specific points in the game, My Laptop's screen blacks out and goes off, the computer stays on with lights and stuff but the screen just stays off like when you put off a pc but the fans keep running, I then have to forcefully power my pc off to put off the entire system.
I don't think this has anything to do with my Laptop's temperature as I've just had the vents and heat sinks ventilated recently, also cause the laptop goes off at just one scene in a particular mission in both games, Assassins Creed and Far Cry 3.
I don't think its my PC's specs either cause I went through the requirements of these games before getting them. I've not been able to go past the stages in the game where my PC goes off.
My Laptop's specs: HP Envy M6-1105DX : AMD A10-4600M 2.3GHz, 6GB RAM, Windows 8, 64-bit.
After using Windows 8 on one of my machines, it had become apparent Microsoft is taking a new turn with their operating system. I wondered at first why Windows 8 was so much less expensive than previous versions of Windows. Now it seems clear to me. All the nice games in previous windows are now gone, and if you want games you now have to use metro and Xbox games. If you play the games at all, the big difference is now all the advertisements.
Any way to block these ads, but no luck. Microsoft has even fooled around and made it somewhat difficult to alter the hosts file. Figuring out a way to effectively block the ads ....
I doubleclicked on an MP4 to play it (from Explorer) and this XBox Video thing came up and played it. Fine, looks like a nice player. But when I stopped it wanted to exit the application -- can't find a way.
Oh, I can switch to ANOTHER application, but how the heck do I close this thing down? I could bring up Task Manager and kill it there (I suppose -- haven't even seen if there is still Task Manager, although I assume they would not have gotten rid of that) but there MUST be a simple way to close out an app, right?
(If not I'm going to remove that app and make sure I never accidentally bring it up again).
I want to be able to screen mirror from my W.81 desktop wired to my TV thru Xbox 360 and Roku 3 without having to buy yet another device (Miracast) to do so. I know this can be done via Devices/Play/Xbox/IE App but the problem is that most content won't play properly with the IE App-IE browser yes but not the App for some reason. This same content will play on Chrome but I can't screen mirror with Xbox with Chrome. I really want to be able to do this without spending more money.
The xbox music app for Windows 8 will not show any of the music in my library. I have narrowed it down to the fact the all my music on a 2nd hard drive.
If I move a couple of songs to the c drive and add that folder to my library, they will show up. However nothing in my library that is on the 2nd hard drive will show up.
The present file format of these personal videos is: .3gp. When I try to play them in Xbox video I get this error message: Can't play because the item's file format isn't supported. Check the store to see if this item is available there. 40 apps open when I did check. Which app will play this .3gp format? I can visually play them in Windows Media Player but for some reason there's no sound & it's turned up to full volume.
I had the understanding that the only way I could view content on my TV w/Xbox extender from my PC for online videos, Showtime Anytime, Coke & Popcorn, HBO GO, etc. was with an Xbox Live Gold Account. However, I read that this can be done in 8.1 without an XLGA by opening the video source in the IE app, begin play, charms/device/Xbox would broadcast directly. I've tried this but I don't see the Xbox option in Device. What am I missing?
I recently got the new windows 8 phone and when I plugged it into my computer after creating an Xbox Music account it automatically imported a handful of songs that are in my iTunes library... I literally did not do anything. I want to get all of my music onto Xbox music so that I do not have t bother with iTunes anymore.
Windows 8. New build I have. I am running windows 8 off of a SSD, and have a new HDD that I bought for everything else. I recently transferred my music over from an external HD and now when I attempt to find them in my Xbox app I can't seem to select that drive. It only sees my SSD, and I do not want to install music on that. How do I make it so my apps pull files right from that drive?
How I can display my windows 8 session on a TV using smartglass.
As I understand it, smartglass is a competitor to Apple's AirPlay. On Airplay, I can sync it with a television and show the display from a mac or ipad on a big screen wirelessly. I want to do the same thing where I can sit on my couch with a laptop, but display the windows desktop on the TV screen.
I have a sony camcorder with Play Memories Home. When I try to download videos from my iphone, playmemories pops up, and tries to work with the download. However, when I download the content, all my pictures download, and only some videos download, but it says that all content has downloaded. When I searched for the lost videos, I found them on xbox video, but cannot find them anywhere else on the computer. I also cannot figure out how to get them from xbox video to where I store the rest of my videos.
I have a question about the Windows 8 Xbox Live games save data. Are they accessible in the computer to backup? If so, where are they stored?
One thing that I really dont like about my WP7 is they keep away any access to the saves and when I had to get my phone replaced I lost all my hard work in them and never bought another xbox live game again cause of it.
Have currently got a new laptop with windows 8, am trying to media stream from media player. Basically the xbox cannot locate the pc on the network although the pc can see the xbox. I managed to get it to work briefly but it kept resetting and I don't understand why. I keep going through the same process to try and reset. I have also tried with and without joining a homegroup.
I have been through all the media streaming.
1. deleting the media player library folder files (%userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMedia Player ) 2. turning on media streaming again, share with devices. 3. setting media sharing service in the registry to automatic. 4. rebuilding the library
I have noticed that when I look at my network I can see the media device when media player is open, but the icon is not what it used to be and has a green play button rather than the media server device. Also when I restart my PC it never loads up as a media server.
I have a sony vaio pro laptop, originally running windows 8 but just updated to windows 8.1. However, this problem was the same when I had windows 8 so updating to 8.1 has not changed anything. I cannot add my xbox 360 wirelessly as a device to my vaio laptop. I want to be able to stream videos etc from laptop to xbox. When I go to Change PC settings>Devices>Add device the computer searches but will not find the xbox, despite it being switched on and connected to the wireless network.
The really frustrating thing is that I have another laptop running windows 8, now updated to 8.1, and it connects with the xbox with no problems whatsoever. As soon as I click 'add a device' on this laptop the xbox is found and I can connect to it/stream content with no problems.
I have tried disabling the firewall on my vaio laptop, still didn't work. I have ensured sharing etc is turned on on both the laptop and the xbox.
I was wondering, am I able to use the Applocker to prevent this from occurring? I can sadly not give a screeny of this... because if the message appears, there seems to be no way to get rid of it, but making a new local account?
I've got a windows 8.1 tablet (Asus VivoTab Smart) And am wanting to play music from it to my Xbox One using spotify However at the moment there is not a spotify app (there is spotlight but its pretty bad)
My device is running the full windows 8.1 so i have the actual spotify program installed and can play music from it on my tablet, but can't seem to stream it to devices, and recieve the error message "you can only play from apps"
Is there any workaround to this so i can play to devices from a windows application or even a way of linking my spotify to an app or am i out of luck?
I got "x" mark on music app's tile then I uninstalled it and tried to install again but I got error 0x80240017. I also deleted app folder from userappdatalocalpackages and windowsapps then again tried to install from store but same error again. already used Modern app repair tool and Wsreset.exe
Am I able to use the Applocker to prevent this from occurring? I can sadly not give a screeny of this... because if the message appears, there seems to be no way to get rid of it, but making a new local account?
To me, this is a huge oversight on Microsoft's part. Imagine being able to boot up your PC, go to Metro, then fire up Steam big picture mode and play your games without ever needing to touch your mouse and keyboard (except, of course, if you are playing an FPS or RTS :3 )
I don't get why this is not supported. It is just such a massive oversight. When I hit the Xbox logo on my controller I would want my PC to switch to Metro mode and allow the navigation of my PC using the thumbsticks, D-pad and face buttons.
Microsoft are trying to be very universal about their devices. Xbox, Zune, Windows, they are trying to get everything into one interface and one brand, so why is the Xbox Controller not supported with Windows for navigational purposes?
