View 9 RepliesI own a ASUS RT-N66U and I have consistent buffering issues (pretty major one at that) and this has gotten worst over time. I can't stream a single 30 minute video without the connection buffering 3-4 times and I'm talking about 30-60 seconds a pop. It's rather annoying. I am also running the latest firmware with my router.
I have one PC in which my router is connected too. I also have the following devices on my network.
Apple TV x2
iPad
iPhone x3
IPod
Okay, so in Windows 7 I am able to connect my wireless to my phone, and run an ethernet cable over to my Xbox. If I use the ICS feature and configure it under services to allow ports 88 and 53 UDP, it works fine. This also allows my Xbox to seemingly add to this list of ports as it finds necessary.
The issue is however, with Windows 8, although I can connect to Xbox Live the same way, it does not seemingly allow the Xbox to add more ports that it deems necessary. This leads to that NAT error message that I am actually trying to do this as a way to bypass it.
In Windows 7 this only works if the connection is set to Home (not sure about Work), but not public. I'm curious if the reason this does not work in Windows 8 is that Windows 8 does not have a Home option, but rather only Private or Public settings. There is some small setting buried deep somewhere that I just need to change to treat it like Windows 7 allows Xbox to treat home networks and configure/add ports automatically.
I had the understanding that the only way I could view content on my TV w/Xbox extender from my PC for online videos, Showtime Anytime, Coke & Popcorn, HBO GO, etc. was with an Xbox Live Gold Account. However, I read that this can be done in 8.1 without an XLGA by opening the video source in the IE app, begin play, charms/device/Xbox would broadcast directly. I've tried this but I don't see the Xbox option in Device. What am I missing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHave currently got a new laptop with windows 8, am trying to media stream from media player. Basically the xbox cannot locate the pc on the network although the pc can see the xbox. I managed to get it to work briefly but it kept resetting and I don't understand why. I keep going through the same process to try and reset. I have also tried with and without joining a homegroup.
I have been through all the media streaming.
1. deleting the media player library folder files (%userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMedia Player )
2. turning on media streaming again, share with devices.
3. setting media sharing service in the registry to automatic.
4. rebuilding the library
I have noticed that when I look at my network I can see the media device when media player is open, but the icon is not what it used to be and has a green play button rather than the media server device. Also when I restart my PC it never loads up as a media server.
For a couple weeks I have been streaming shows to my ps3 from my computer. On my PS3 I have access to four folders, Videos, Music, Pictures, and Playlists, the first three of which I can locate on my computer. When I want to watch a video, I simply copy it into the Videos folder on my computer, then stream from there.
Now I'd like to stream music, my problem is that my music isn't in my Music folder, I have it in a separate folder that doesn't show up on my PS3. Copying over all my music would take time, and I'd also have to redo my WMP playlists. I have tried adding this folder to my shared folder list, and to my Music library, but neither of these things made a difference.
I've spent a couple hours now trying to figure this out, but I can't seem to find anything on google that relates to my specific problem, but there is absolutely no way I'm the first person who's ever wanted to access folder's other than the 4 I've mentioned.
I am trying to find a definitive answer to the question of mapping external hard drives. I have 4 external hard drives and would like to know if there is benefit in mapping them or not. Is there benefit in speed/response etc.... I do a lot of video streaming through media centre to xbox 360.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.
I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.
I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.
I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.
The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.
On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.
have just got new laptop with Windows 8 and Winmedia 12 and now trying to stream radio stations. It appears that I do not have the required Online Stores --->Media Guide icons or Online Stores line when pressing Alt V.

View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently, I have gotten an ASUS notebook as a gift and I've noticed that there is one big issue with it. Whenever I stream music from Spotify or watch a movie on Netflix, the audio begins to create a crackling static noise. The issue with the stuttering is whenever I have something playing in the background such as Spotify, whenever I begin to switch tabs or load a new site, the audio begins to stutter and mess up. I don't know what the problem is. I've tried updating my drivers. I've tried changing the default playback on my playback device as well but to no avail. My computer has the Realtek High Definition Audio driver. I have heard that Realtek drivers and ASUS machines don't usually function well together but I am not sure if that's the case.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to setup network profiles or something so that when I bring my Surface Pro to work and connect to the wireless network there it will use the static ip address I have but when I disconnect and then connect to my home wifi it will go back to DHCP? On my MacBook Pro I can go into the network settings and change the location profile I have setup for networks but I don't see anything like this for Windows 8.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to share a specific folder on my Windows 8 computer with my Windows 7 computer. They are both on the same network connected to the same router. The Windows 8 computer is connected through ethernet, while the Windows 7 computer is connected wirelessly.
Here are my settings on my Windows 8 Computer:
This is the error I get on my Windows 7 computer:
What's up with this? On a related note, is it possible to share this folder with a specific PC, rather than "Everyone" on the network?
I am having trouble with ICS on win 8. On my old laptop (win xp) I used to be able to share my 3Connect dongle internet to connect to Xbox live. I recently got a new laptop with win 8 and whenever I share this internet connection I can never connect on my Xbox (the network to internet part fails). When everything is connected up and shared the Ethernet says 'Unidentified Network' which i believe is the cause of the problem. I've read i may require a driver update but i cannot seem to find one.
My Laptop: Toshiba Satellite C855-29N
what to do, maybe i am not setting up the connection sharing properly?
I've been trying to set up an old Savin 9033 printer through the company's router, but I couldn't find the network it's set up on from any other computer.
So I pull up Network & Sharing, see that Network Discovery is turned off.
I check it, go to click on "Save Changes" and nothing happens. I click it a few times and it kicks me back to the previous page, nothing saved. No password prompt or anything.
I double checked that all the appropriate services are running (DNS Client, SSDP Discovery, UPnP Device Host, Function Discoveryr Resource Publication, etc.) and made sure Network Discovery was allowed through Windows Firewall.
After using Windows 8 on one of my machines, it had become apparent Microsoft is taking a new turn with their operating system. I wondered at first why Windows 8 was so much less expensive than previous versions of Windows. Now it seems clear to me. All the nice games in previous windows are now gone, and if you want games you now have to use metro and Xbox games. If you play the games at all, the big difference is now all the advertisements.
Any way to block these ads, but no luck. Microsoft has even fooled around and made it somewhat difficult to alter the hosts file. Figuring out a way to effectively block the ads ....
This morning I installed an optional update from Windows Update. It was Ralink Technology WLAN 802.11 wireless LAN card.
Since then, when I try to print to my wireless network printer, the network would disconnect then come back on after a while. The update shows up in Update History as successfully installed but not in the installed updates. System restore is of no support here. The network configuration page shows normal. The web does not appear to be affected. I made a new network connection for the printer but it did not work.
Is there a way to reverse this update or should I uninstall the 802.11 LAN card and let windows re-install anew.
The printer is a HP Officejet Pro 8600e
I am trying to get file sharing to work with my win 8 machine and my OS X Server. The computers are on the same network with the same workgroup but I can't seem to connect. I was able to connect with the wife's win 7 home machine until I upgraded it to win 7 Ultimate now it wont connect either.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI would like to make a folder share from a tablet with windows 8 with password protected to a laptop of windows 7 and another of vista. I have followed the tutorial of File Sharing - "Share with" & "Stop Sharing" in Windows 8. My PCs have been set in the same workgroup and same user account, network discovery and file and printer sharing turned on. At the first time, it is OK for windows 7. However after some changes of account (delete and create them on both windows 8 and windows 7), it doesn't work anymore with the error from windows 7 "Login failure: user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer" whenever password protected turned on in windows 8 and only OK when password turned off.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI re-installed Windows 8 yesterday evening (thought it would be quicker than to cleanup and fix my old install) and then directly upgraded it to Windows 8.1. The problem I am experiencing is quite weird: The Operating System doesn't detect the network cable.
With that being said, do not jump straight to the "Did you turn it on and off again" questions. Here is what I have done so far:
Hardware-Side: Cross-check the cable with another computer --> Working fineCross-check the wall plug with another computer --> Working fineTest the connection with the BIOS's connection diagnostic utility --> Link detected
Software-Side: Checking if Windows was up to date --> Nothing to updateUpdating the motherboard's BIOS --> Not betterUpdating the LAN's drivers with the ones I found on the manufacturer's website --> Not better
I am wondering what is wrong with my installation. It was working A1 a few days ago, except for the issues I re-installed the operating system for.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy 8.1 laptop shows multiple network connections to my Samsung Smart TV --- One as "media connections" and 3 as "other connections". Both devices are on a simple wireless network using Linksys WRT54GS.
Under the "Network" page, most of the "Properties" of the TV connections are the same except for "Serial Number" and "Unique Identifier". Did I do something wrong when setting things up? Are these extra connections harmful? Should I delete some? How?
I purchased a new Windows 8, Inspiron 15 7000 series - 7537 last December. I had been using a router at a hotel for the time, and it worked correctly. When I arrived home, I had a Belkin router, and i experienced network issues in that i could not connect to the wifi. I could connect with Ethernet cable. The problem was fixed through customer support eventually, but I now have a new Comcast router, and i'm experiencing what appears to be the same or a similar issue. I can access the internet fine by wire. With wifi, it says i have access to the internet over the internet icon in the bottom right, but i cannot access webpages. I can use skype, and communicate through it.
Here is the result from the ipconfig /all :

I really need the wifi on this router working for this laptop. Let me note that it works on other laptops, so it should be an issue with hardware or settings on this laptop.
With the following problem regarding media streaming in windows 8. Up until recently I could stream video films from my HP laptop & HP desktop onto the TV via DNLA.
After following several posts on various sites it seems that when I try to start the windows media player network in the services I get the error message "windows could not start the windows media player network sharing service on the local computer.
Error 1068. The dependency group failed to start."
In the dependencies tab in the lower box of the two "the following system components depend on this service"
The box is greyed out and the words no dependencies is displayed.
