I was working on a document that was located in a zip archive. I have 7-zip installed on my computer. I'm running Windows 8. I repeatedly saved the file in Word while I was working on it. However, I've since rebooted the computer and my file is missing. All of the "saves". I've made didn't seem to update the file in the archive. I understand that I should have extracted the file first before working on it; however, I received no prompt from Word 2013 that my saves were not being recorded. Perhaps the file was saved into some sort of temporary folder/file that 7-zip creates/works from.
Are my changes lost permanently? Does there exist a temporary file somewhere with my changes in it?
This is a court document and I made substantial modifications to it, and I really need it back.

When I try to print a word document (Windows 8.1 and word 2013), the printer that is the default one is that "one note". How can I get rid of one note, I never will use it!
I have an existing OpenOffice document, (it's actually a 375 page book of Spanish) in File Explorer's 'Documents' that I transferred from an old XP laptop by flash drive. All my other documents except .doc & the Oo one, which is: .odt have opened up successfully. I downloaded Oo 3.4.1 which is the latest one. It will by right clicking & selecting 'Open with', after a long period open in Wordpad but a lot of the lines have jumped out of column. I tried right clicking, selecting 'Share with' & 'Specific people' & typed in 'Administrator'' along with my User name of robinp. It didn't solve the problem. I'm going to have a try at right clicking & selecting 'Properties'>'Security', etc. & trying that route.
When trying to save a document (could be from OpenOffice or LibreOffice or even a PDF), the Save As dialog opens and then immediately freezes. There is no way to escape--I have to "X" out of it and the document app crashes.
No new software has been installed since creating the new user account. We use Norton 360 and also Malware Bytes for protection.
Today the search function randomly stopped working. I can be clicked on the Documents folder, type in the file name and it says no results found. I can be looking at the file and it says no results found. Until this afternoon it was working just fine!!
A few weeks ago I had some issues with not being able to save files.
Some days later when I tried to open a word document I got a message saying something along the lines of "are you sure you want to open this file? It has become corrupted and caused loads of problems with your computer the last time you had it open". So I guess that was the original issue. At the time I didn't desperately need the file and I had a lot of work so I haven't had time to try to solve the issue until now. What might have caused the file to get corrupted? (I'm not even sure my PC used this term). And is there any way I can retrieve the information in it.
I don't know how I did it but I got both Windows 7 File Recovery and Windows 8 File History active at the same time. I upgraded from Win 7 to 8 Pro and transferred settings so win 7 file recovery was already active, when I tried to turn on win 8 file recovery I got a message saying I cant because win 7 FR was active. So I deactivated win 7 FR then activated win 8 FR, for giggles I went back and turned on win 7 FR and it worked. Now I have both active, from what I have read this was not possible. Did I break my OS or am I just lucky?
I upgraded to 8.1 a while back. I just tried to open File Recovery. The icon is blank and nothing opens when I click it. WTH? What happened to it and, more importantly, how do I get this program back?
Im running windows 8.1 pro x64. I just did a clean install and very foolishly I let the file history back up my data instead of doing a manual backup like I usually do.
I tried to do a recovery and it didn't show any recovery dates other than yesterdays date which was when I did the clean install
My computer used to be named Desktop and it had my name as the User. After the during the install I decided to name computer Office with my name as the user instead. I figured maybe changing it back to desktop would do the trick but it didn't work. I even assigned the backup drive the same letter it was prior to clean install.
I can see all my data on external I wouldn't mind just manually moving it back but theres a couple problems with that. First of all every file has now the time stamp right into the file name which is annoying but also for some stuff theres multiple copies with different time stamps.
No matter what I try I cant get the recover files to recognize theres a back up there.
I take a File History snapshot every night. I have had to do a restore of my c: drive and need to apply my File History for four days. How to do this because I have never done it before.

I use Mozbackup for firefox, and it creates a pcv file. The problem is I can put it in documents folder in skydrive folder, but when I need to download it from skydrive, skydrive flags it as a possible virus and stops the download. Is there a way I can set skydrive not to do this to a pcv file?.
How do you attach a photo to document ie for car sale in magazine to the document. Not attachment to e-mail which I have sorted! have photos in/ file /my photos and skpe at the moment.
I have a MSI GS70 which I recently bought about two months ago. I have updated to windows 8.1. Whenever I try to open a document from USB drive that has the format associated with a microsoft office application I get a BSOD. I ran an SFC scan, and it came back clean. I can open up the files when I copy them over but when it comes to opening it from the USB I get the BSOD.
I just started using Windows 8, so I don't know where everything is. However, I would like to use the Desktop for short cuts to documents I use frequently. I can put them there all right, but when I try to use them again, I get message something like: "the document to which this shortcut points has been moved or deleted", and then asks me if I should delete the shortcut, which I do since obviously it no longer works. Is there a way I can put documents on the desktop, and retrieve them whenever?
I have not Office Tools (Words, PPT......)Before I used a free document Template given by Microsoft that I do not find anymore. How can I create a document in Windows 8 ?
If I use the search function, not in a browser, but in the OS itself, it will bring up a Bing page of results. This page fills the entire screen and has no apparent way to close it. This also happens when I open a PDF using the native Windows 8 reader - the pdf opens to a full page with no apparent way to minimize or close it.
That's just the beginning of the problem. I have been just ignoring what is on that full screen by opening the desktop and just going about my work (hate the tiles, but that's a different story). However, from time-to-time, when I'm moving the mouse cursor and doing nothing but moving the mouse cursor, that full screen Bing page or PDF will just pop to the front unbidden. I can obviously reopen the desktop again, but this is a hassle, as this page-behind just keeps popping up and interupting my work. Worse, once it happens, it seems to happen again and again as I'm making the first mouse movement after moving back to the desktop. I literally have to open the desktop again and again 5 or 6 times before that document behind stops popping up. When I TRY to reproduce this, I can't. I can't seem to make the document behind pop up just by moving the mouse - but when I don't want it to happen, it does.
I am using windows 8 and have problems printing documents, the printers only print part of the document. It's not the printer, because it happens at my work and at home.
I used to be able to do a search and it would stay up as I checked each document to see if that was what I was looking for. Now when I do a search and click a document that comes up, the search disappears and I have to start all over again each time. This is frustrating because I often go looking through my collection of music notation files and have many to go through.
I'm using Windows 8.1 x64 and I'd like to add to the MAIN menu of context menu (just right-clicking) the options to create a New Folder and a New Text Document. Right now I have to go to the "New" option and then select Folder or Text Document.
I just downloaded Adobe reader 11, and have been trying to open pdf files from the "My Documents" folder. Specifically files that I have just written and saved from MS Word. Adobe says: "There was an error opening this document. Access denied." However, if I save the file into the Downloads folder, it will open no problem.
I have an Epson BX635FWD printer that has and does work perfectly with Windows XP. I have recently purchased a Lenovo B540 with Windows 8 and it loaded the print drivers immediately. I thought how easy it was but have since found that it will not print a multi page document in full, but will suddenly stop halfway through a page. I made do by printing a couple of pages at a time, but then tried to print a 10 x 15 cm photo and it would only print 1/3 before stopping and spitting the paper out. The number of pages it prints correctly before giving an error message and ejecting the paper is inconsistent.
I have reloaded driver 1.32 (for Windows 8) from the Epson site twice and I have also gone back to the disc supplied with the printer and reloaded the driver from there.
I installed a full version of Windows 8 on to a new clean hard drive and all seems to be working well except for one very unusual issue.
I went in to Control Paneland accessed "Windows 7 File Recovery" in Windows 8 (back up), just as I did in the past with Windows 7 and made an image of my computer. The image was successfully made and put on one of my physically separate secondary drives (Drive E).
Once I made the system image, I wanted to test that it could be accessed in the event I needed to use it in the future.
I restarted Windows 8 with the original Windows 8 install/repair disk, through my CD/DVD/Blue ray drive and selected the "repair" function and was able to go through the steps where it was detected and ready to be installed if needed.
When I was able to see that the "image" was recognized and ready to use (if ever needed) I clicked on "Cancel" so as to not allow the procedure to start and all shut down as expected. I removed the Windows 8 disk from my drive and restarted my computer as normal.
Here is where the problem starts.
The system booted up and the blue windows 8 logo displayed as normal and the little white circular motion below the logo started in its circular motion, signifying that things are happening. The problem was "that is all that happened".
The computer was stuck in a forever startup. After several minutes, I shut down the computer tried it again and same thing, it was stuck in virtual start-up.
After some thought and a lucky gues (because it was the last thing I did), I un-plugged drive E, which had the system image on it and then restarted the computer again and it started up just fine.
When I plugged hard drive-E back in to the computer it was again stuck in virtual start-up.
I then removed drive-E and re-formatted it on a different computer (using windows 7), then put it back into the computer using Windows 8 and it worked fine.
In short, when I put a system image on a hard drive in my computer, then try to access it, the computer becomes frozen in a forever start-up.
I have a HP Deskjet 1515 which I just purchased 4 days ago. When I attempt to print anything from specific programs (more on this) nothing happens. I can see that the print job enters the print queue but it immediately disappears. There is no error given.
The strange thing is that certain programs can print, while others appear unable.

I am using Windows 8.1 x64 (legal copy) and it is fully updated. All of my software is legal and updated.
I can print to other printers, network and local.
Other computers can print to this printer (all are Windows 7 x32).
Printer is set up on USB002 Virtual Printer Port.
I have tried using the drivers that came with my printer as well as downloading the latest drivers from HP's website.
Here are some examples:

The consensus as far as I can see seems that there is a problem with the Windows System Files and that I need to use SFC to repair it.
This is what I tried to do.After running SFC in an elevated command prompt and running "SFC /SCANNOW" I received a message saying that SFC could not fix something. I tried running the command multiple times (and also from boot).
I then proceeded to use Deployment Imaging and Servicing Management (DISM) tool to update the files and correct the problem. This appeared to work because after running DISM I then re-ran SFC /SCANNOW and received no error messages.
Here are some other things that I have tried in addition to the above with no effect:
RestartingDeleting the printer, restarting, re-installing from a different USB port.Punching the sky like no one is watchingChanging the USB cable to one I knew was workingPrayerRun Printer Troubleshooter (but lets face it we knew that would do nothing)Restarting the Print Spooler ServiceRun WindowsUpdate to see if there is any printer related updates (there are no updates at all)Run Antivirus update / scan (looooong shot)
I am using windows 8 and when i am typing in a doc or browser or where ever a window keeps popping up asking me to add an email accounts. How do I stop this from happening?
