View 2 RepliesI am using Windows 8.1. Recently, when viewing a graphic on the monitor, I accidentally hit one or more keys on the lower part of the keyboard. The image immediately re-sized to a smaller size. Even when closing and re-opening the program, I am confronted with the reduced-scale image size. This has not affected any other software that I have on the computer, however.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi got a surface pro and i hooked it up to my dell u2311hm monitor. Now when its not hooked up, i like to have the display setting size to Medium - 125% or Large - 150% (default) but once i hook my mini display in, the dell u2311 looks like ass at Large. so i gotta bring it down to Small - 100%. Is it possible to have different settings for different display.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWin7 installed on SSD for 1 year now. 2 more HDD: one 2TB (name K: ) one 4TB (name T: )
About 3 weeks ago tried WN8.1 on a third HDD (1TB). After install all looked OK. Boot on WIN7 and windows tried to check disk. I let it and all looked OK. Worked normally in WIN7 and add 300GB+ of MXF files (video recorded with my camera) and 100GB+ on NEF.
After a week (approximate) boot again in Windows 8.1 . Moved from another 1TB HDD (name J: ) 55GB date on partition T (4TB HDD) and downloaded from camera 6GB MXF on partition K. On this moment I realized that on K I don't see recent MXF wrote on WIN7 after last Windows 8.1 boot.
Boot again in WIN7 and let it do Check Disk. No result: in WIN7 a see only what I see in Windows 8.1. Check Disk made an FOUND.000 on K but no files. On T I had back-up all K but some back-up was not complete after writing 55GB on it in Windows 8.1.
Now I'm scanning with recovery programs but on T I thing all is lost because of those 55GB wrote. On partition K a don't see hundred of GB (1.14TB see windows as properties of files but only 150GB free on partition so ther ar some files that ar not see by WIN7 or Windows 8.1). On T partition no unseen files (total partition space - free space = total file properties).
For testing I tried on another 1TB HDD: partition created in WIN7 and write file on it, boot Windows 8.1 and see all files, boot again WIN7 and write another files, boot Windows 8.1 and second write files are not seen.
Now I bought new 4TB HDD for scaning partition K and saving all files from it on new HDD. At this moment I have aprox. 100GB of NEF and MXF on partition K that was overwrite in back-up on partition T and for the moment is lost. Didn't work dual boot with WIN7 and Windows 8.1
I have windows 8 pro and when I start the store app it doesn't load and when I go back to desktop it says werfault.exe - application error the instruction at 0xf96ef417 referenced memory at 0xf96ef417 the memory could not be written click ok to terminate the program. idk why this is happening, could it be fixed with a registry scan?

I put in a Data CD and it isn't noticed. (Audio CDs are rocognized as "Audio CD" with no ID info). I went to the Windows troubleshooting page and clicked the "fix it" link and the CD was picked up but the next time I put one in the same thing happened.
After I fixed it I tried several data CDs that worked but the next time I restarted is when the problem returned.
I cant disable the READ ONLY attribute! I tried everything but nothing works. I tried RUN as administrator with this code: attrib -r "C:ProgramSIMCITY*.*''

I am on a public computer posting this because mine will just not boot at all. It won't even show the boot logo, and I cannot get back into the Bios to switch it back to UEFI. I am not sure what information I could add on to here to be more clear other than I screwed up bad. The laptop didn't come with a disk, and I tried to hold 0 while powering up the laptop hoping that it would reset to factory settings, but no luck there either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm playing a browser-based game where we use signature-photos, and some people including me like to go a little nuts here and make photos with transparent backgrounds, the only issue is that transparent backgrounds have a lot larger files than if you just change the background-color of the photo to whatever the background of the website is, which in this case is #111111. Anyway, this worked perfectly on Windows 7, but since I switched to Windows 8.1, the background colors of the photos has changed, either that or the colors themself has changed. When I printscreen the background of the website, it's still #111111 while as the color of the photos are #080808, can this be related?
I have talked to a lot of players on this game who runs Windows 8 who doesn't have this issue.

i've been using windows 8.1 for a little time in my new Sony notebook. First, i used windows 8 and had no problems, my keyboard layout was the correct one (Spanish - Latin America, 'cause i'm from Argentina). But after an upgrade to windows 8.1, the default layout was set to Traditional Spanish wich does not suit the layout I see on my keyboard, signs are misplaced. I went to the control panel and under the idioms settings i set Latin American layout to my keyboard, but even with the correct configuration (checked with the layout image that is shown in the configuration menu), signs like ` and @ are still misplaced. What can I do?

Here is a png and I need that to be able to installed my others software from my only backup.
First, I wasn't sure if this problem is Hardware or Software. I have a Windows 8 HP 2000-2c29WM that has a problem booting.
At first when turning on the machine I get a message about the HDD not being seen or could not read. Second I took out the HDD and replaced it with another one and changed the Bios to legacy and installed Windows 7 for trail to see if I could find all of the drivers ( NO SM bus drivers), during grace period. Third I connected the Windows 8 HDD via USB to see if I could recover any files.
My original thought was a bad or dead HDD, but as it turns out I had no problem reading it. At this point I am not sure if HDD has a bad boot sector or if there is some kind of bug that has corrupted it. I believe I have only a few choices 1. Order recovery disk from HP. 2. Buying a copy of windows 7 or 3. Putting Zorin 9 (UBUNTU) on the machine.
I changed my username following the following guide ( microsoft account - How to rename user folder in Windows 8? - Super User ). Everything has worked fine so far apart for the the desktop version of Windows Update. My knowledge is pretty low about this things but for me it's weird that I can access the metro version of the Updater but I cannot access the desktop version. I receive this error -> View image: 2014 05 05 11 02 36 C Users user App Data Local

I updated my laptop from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 8 64bit and forgot about it for months and months and months
Then I changed ISP and, again, did not login to the laptop....
Now when I try to login the "Welcome"wheel turns and turns then returns to the login prompt. It says "Locked" near the wheel....
Anyway I can login without have to re-install?
I have had windows update set to check for updates and notify me so I can choose when, or in some cases if, to install them. This evening, I checked and the option had been changed to automatically install all updates.
How it could have happened?
When I installed Win8 (at this point, updated to Win8.1 Update) on drive V:, it changed it to C:. Since I'm used to the drive letters as they used to be, I'd like to change it back to V:. I figure I'll have to change all the registry entries for installed programs from C: to V:.
How to confirm that I'll have to manually make those registry changes?
I don't know how this happened, but the Desktop folder under This PC changed to the D: drive. My system has two partitions, the second of which is the D: drive. The Desktop folder was not only renamed to "D:" but redirected to the drive as well. I tried to delete it from the registry editor and then add it back, but the D: keeps coming back instead. The desktop icon is still there, however.
Is there any way to delete the D: drive and bring back the desktop folder instead under This PC? Screenshot is attached.
P.S. In the screenshot, the actual D: drive (supposed to be next to the C: drive) is not shown because I deleted the partition in hopes of getting rid of the D: drive folder showing up under This PC.
Win 8.1 has added a piece in brackets to files on my new PC. Now none of my slide shows work because each jpg has this bracketed info in the file name. I have tried overwriting the files with originals from a backup but these too are changed. Can I stop this happening? Is there a bit of code to delete the bracketed part of the many thousands of files affected?
I have loads of Nero nvc files that I can no longer open because of this name change.
When I was installing an arabic keyboard for fun, I managed to set the entire system language to it, instead of just the keyboard layout. Using the thing on the task bar doesn't work.

Been using this system since long, but this has never happened before. I have reinstalled again by the same procedure, but always wary of the same problem happening again.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.5 yr. old ASUS notebook which has been upgraded from the initial Windows 8.0 to 8.1 and then to PRO several months ago. The PRO was done in an attempt to install the encryption technology, Bitlocker. Shortly after the install of Bitlocker, I found it would not work and traced it back to a discussion with ASUS who said this particular notebook was not built with the ability to be encrypted. (This is the second notebook/laptop in several months that I ran across this!) In any case, Bitlocker is not turned on anywhere, and unfortunately, I can't find any tool to remove it from my harddrive as of yet. I only mention this as a possible bearing on the issue since apparently it embeds itself in the root directory, if I am correct. This problem recently started for some unknown reason I can't contribute anything to.
My drive D: is an extension on the physical drive. When I try to manipulate and files or folders, it comes up with "the media is read only" or "the disk is write protected" all dependent on what I am trying to do and what application is open. It will, of course, allow me to copy files to C:. I have tried the following:
-CHKDSK which found nothing
-FILE CHECKER which found nothing
-PERMISSIONS checked and everyone and everything has full permissions
-DISKPART/ATTRIBUTES ran to check everything and according to the attributes on this volume, there is NO READONLY! I ran the CLEAN command 2X anyway which came up "successful" each time.
-I also ran some quality DISK MANAGEMENT software which could not make any modifications since it views the drive as "Read Only".
