I updated my laptop from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 8 64bit and forgot about it for months and months and months
Then I changed ISP and, again, did not login to the laptop....
Now when I try to login the "Welcome"wheel turns and turns then returns to the login prompt. It says "Locked" near the wheel....
Anyway I can login without have to re-install?
Just starting using Windows 8, changed computer name and now when I start up I can not log in. If I open arrow to left of log in picture there are two pictures, one I can log in with and the other no.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 8 on my laptop which uses my Windows Live account to login. Problem is it has suddenly stopped letting me log in and I'm locked out. The message I get is "You can't sign into your PC at the moment. Go to account.live.com to fix the problem or try the last password you used on this PC". I hadn't changed anything which may have made it do this.
I have tried the following but nothing is working:
- Changed my password in my Live account
- Used a previous password
- Plugged my laptop into a network cable rather than using just Wifi
- Rolled my laptop to a previous time
I can't refresh as it needs the password but I can access the command prompt. I'm not knowledgeable on command prompts so not sure what I could do here which might resolve it. I also don't want to lose any files.
My daughters boyfriends laptop will no longer start an Asus which runs windows 8.
Normally not much of an issue, if it weren't for the fact that he never created a backup or rescue disc. The laptop does not have a cd/dvd drive, so I would need to download a rescue disc, but do you think I could find one...
Where i would be able to download a rescue disc? (or another way to fix it).

I have both a laptop and a desktop, both of which were running Windows 8 until recently, with the desktop not having a wireless internet card. In order to connect it to the internet, I had to pass the internet through it via ethernet cable from my laptop. Well, not that long ago, I updated my laptop to Windows 8.1, and now my desktop recognizes the connection, but I cannot get online at all with it.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi was customizing my desktop with Rainmeter and i wanted to know how to change my toolbar's color because i didnt want the blue, someone said to download Vistaglazz and repatch some files. after doing so my computer restarted and after the initial normal startup and it saying "Please wait..." like it usually does before it shows the login users, the screen went black, then for a split second the screen went pitch black, almost as if the computer turned off, then it would turn on again and go back to the normal "Please wait..." screen. this would be ok but its happening so fast and over and over again that i cant even hit f8 or Ctrl Alt Delete. im using a different computer because i literally cant log onto the other one.

She no longer has Administrator privileges. Control Panel/User Accounts show a password protected Administrator user and Local Account Password protected Administrator user.
I want to run Chkdsk since her HD has a read sector problem but need full Administrator privileges to do so.
How do I restore the password protected Administrator logins?
I received my laptop (Dell 17r SE) about a week ago but I have been having trouble with it's boot time. From pushing the power button, it takes anywhere between 5 and 10minutes to arrive at the login screen.
I checked the event log for Diagnostic-Performance, and the eventID100 has popped up quite a lot as "critical." I go into details and the stats are not looking to good. These are the times for multiple boots:
BootTime 175799/153962/217864/640216(This one was the first startup that the laptop ever did)
MainPathBootTime 122899/90262/135072/564816(This one was for the first startup that the laptop ever did)
Along with that critical error, I get other warnings saying apps/drivers/services like Svchost, rdbss, gpsvc, SMSSInit took longer than expected to initialise, thereby slowing startup.
I'm not sure if this is useful but apart from that, the log also shows EventID500/501 error events that state that The Desktop Window Manager responsiveness has degraded due to heavy resource contention.
Windows is asking me for a password despite I've never had a password.
Here's what happened:
I've never had a password and choose during the win install to have 1 local account without password.
I used to have a user/login name with an non ascii character (é), and it was causing me some trouble. Hence I decided to change it with ascii only characters. Control Panel, users etc ... properties, changed the name of the local user.
Reboot, and boom, Windows asks me for a password and is displaying the former user name !! But there's no option to change the user name, I've read that there should be a back arrow but it's not here (probably because windows "thinks" there's no point since there is only 1 user).
I don't know what to do, I used a Linux live usb distro to use some tools that can reset password and unlock account, however:
1/ it can only reset password, which seems not to be the issue here, the issue is the wrong user name
2/ the linux tool shows 1 local user with the last update name
So I'm guessing windows is not using the proper name to login, but doesn't provide any mean to change it.
I bought a Toshiba laptop that came with pre-installed Windows 8. I went into the "Bios" and switched from UEFI to CSM, Now my laptop just doesn't work. I am on a public computer posting this because mine will just not boot at all. It won't even show the boot logo, and I cannot get back into the Bios to switch it back to UEFI. I am not sure what information I could add on to here to be more clear other than I screwed up bad. The laptop didn't come with a disk, and I tried to hold 0 while powering up the laptop hoping that it would reset to factory settings, but no luck there either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm playing a browser-based game where we use signature-photos, and some people including me like to go a little nuts here and make photos with transparent backgrounds, the only issue is that transparent backgrounds have a lot larger files than if you just change the background-color of the photo to whatever the background of the website is, which in this case is #111111. Anyway, this worked perfectly on Windows 7, but since I switched to Windows 8.1, the background colors of the photos has changed, either that or the colors themself has changed. When I printscreen the background of the website, it's still #111111 while as the color of the photos are #080808, can this be related?
I have talked to a lot of players on this game who runs Windows 8 who doesn't have this issue.

i've been using windows 8.1 for a little time in my new Sony notebook. First, i used windows 8 and had no problems, my keyboard layout was the correct one (Spanish - Latin America, 'cause i'm from Argentina). But after an upgrade to windows 8.1, the default layout was set to Traditional Spanish wich does not suit the layout I see on my keyboard, signs are misplaced. I went to the control panel and under the idioms settings i set Latin American layout to my keyboard, but even with the correct configuration (checked with the layout image that is shown in the configuration menu), signs like ` and @ are still misplaced. What can I do?

Everything has worked fine so far apart for the the desktop version of Windows Update. My knowledge is pretty low about this things but for me it's weird that I can access the metro version of the Updater but I cannot access the desktop version. I have had windows update set to check for updates and notify me so I can choose when, or in some cases if, to install them. This evening, I checked and the option had been changed to automatically install all updates.
How it could have happened?
When I installed Win8 (at this point, updated to Win8.1 Update) on drive V:, it changed it to C:. Since I'm used to the drive letters as they used to be, I'd like to change it back to V:. I figure I'll have to change all the registry entries for installed programs from C: to V:.
How to confirm that I'll have to manually make those registry changes?
I am using Windows 8.1. Recently, when viewing a graphic on the monitor, I accidentally hit one or more keys on the lower part of the keyboard. The image immediately re-sized to a smaller size. Even when closing and re-opening the program, I am confronted with the reduced-scale image size. This has not affected any other software that I have on the computer, however.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know how this happened, but the Desktop folder under This PC changed to the D: drive. My system has two partitions, the second of which is the D: drive. The Desktop folder was not only renamed to "D:" but redirected to the drive as well. I tried to delete it from the registry editor and then add it back, but the D: keeps coming back instead. The desktop icon is still there, however.
Is there any way to delete the D: drive and bring back the desktop folder instead under This PC? Screenshot is attached.
P.S. In the screenshot, the actual D: drive (supposed to be next to the C: drive) is not shown because I deleted the partition in hopes of getting rid of the D: drive folder showing up under This PC.
Win 8.1 has added a piece in brackets to files on my new PC. Now none of my slide shows work because each jpg has this bracketed info in the file name. I have tried overwriting the files with originals from a backup but these too are changed. Can I stop this happening? Is there a bit of code to delete the bracketed part of the many thousands of files affected?
I have loads of Nero nvc files that I can no longer open because of this name change.
When I was installing an arabic keyboard for fun, I managed to set the entire system language to it, instead of just the keyboard layout. Using the thing on the task bar doesn't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to use Windows Explorer to wirelessly browse my Android folders with the ES File Explorer app. The app issued me the local ftp IP and port to connect. I also setup a username and password for the connection.
When I entered those credentials on Vista, Win Explorer displayed folders as usual and allowed the usual drag and drop and cut/paste features. However, with Win 8.1 the interface looks like an HTML web page where all my Android folders display as links, and files and folders can only be downloaded. Is there some configuration setting I'm missing to make it look the old way?
Okay, so apparently my "Programmer" folder on C: changed to "Program Files". I live in Denmark, so the system is danish. The folder "Program Files" used to be named "Programmer", but somehow it changed to "Program files". It is weird, because that my other x86 folder is still named "Programmer (86)". How to rename it back?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI do a lot of AV system programming, which generally involves having to set my IP address for either my Ethernet port or WiFi card to manual IPs temporarily. I am having an issue on a relatively clean install of Windows 8 Pro that after I change my IP, when I go back into TCP/IP v4 to change it back to DHCP, it is already set to automatic... but if I right click on the connection icon and go to Status, it still has the static address. I tried to set it to another manual address and to hopefully go back in to revert, but that doesn't work.
The ONLY thing that seems to work is removing the NIC from Device Manager and then re-scanning for hardware changes where it will be automatically detected with DHCP enabled by default.
WiFi card is Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN.
Ethernet NIC is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57??.
I've got the latest available drivers, and using generic ones doesn't work. It's also on both NICs so I don't it is a driver issue.
I was at friend's house last night, and every time I'm there with my laptop and we all want to watch some videos, or listen to music to his xbox, it' won't work, unless I right right click on the file/s and click on "play To".
But when I'm at home the videos and music play to my xbox with out a hitch. Now this didn't start until I decided to try and change something firewall related. My problem is, I don't remember what I changed with these settings.
IE 11 tells me that my IE proxy is set to 127.0.0.1:9666, so I can't browse websites.
And in the internet options, Lan setting , proxy is disabled....
And in the registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet SettingsProxyServer is set to 127.0.0.1:9666, I can't change it , even i delete it , it will appear again when i reopen the registry editor...
