Network / Sharing :: Desktop No Longer Getting Internet From Windows 8.1 Laptop
Sep 15, 2014
I have both a laptop and a desktop, both of which were running Windows 8 until recently, with the desktop not having a wireless internet card. In order to connect it to the internet, I had to pass the internet through it via ethernet cable from my laptop. Well, not that long ago, I updated my laptop to Windows 8.1, and now my desktop recognizes the connection, but I cannot get online at all with it.
I can no longer access the internet from my other laptop.
When I boot up it says "Failed to connect to a windows service".
I believe that the computer cannot locate my wireless card.
I am told that there are no available connections.
When I try to open Network and Sharing Centre, it crashes.
There are no exclamation makes in Device Manager and everything else seems to be working ok.
I just cannot find any networks and appears to be something to do with my wireless card - which has worked perfectly until yesterday when I turned on my laptop and found this problem.
I have a Asus Laptop operating with Windows 8.1. It connects to wifi but none of the desktop icons can get to the Internet. Meanwhile most window tiles in the start menu have Internet access . For example I have the application "MegaTube" and that application has access to the Internet. As well as the weather app, which updates when connected to the Internet.
I'm a Windows 8. I'm trying to RDP from my new Windows 8 laptop to an XP desktop, both of which are on my home network. When I try, I get the below error...
Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled 2) The remote computer is turned off 3) The remote computer is not available on the network
As best as I can tell, none of the conditions above is true. Here is what I have looked at so far...
- On the XP machine, in System settings / Remote, "Allow users to connect to this system" is Checked. I have successfully RDP'd to this machine in the past, but this is the first time I've tried from the Windows 8 machine.
- From the Windows 8 machine, I can ping the XP machine, and I can access a shared drive on the XP machine. In fact, I've been moving files between the XP machine and the Windows 8 machine, in both directions, all day.
- Just to eliminate another potential issue, I have set the username and password on the Windows 8 machine to match that on the XP machine.
Incidentally, XP machine is running XP Pro, 2002, SP3.
I upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8 and none of the apps work and they all show offline. When I open the desktop I can use the internet with no problem. In the network and sharing options it says that I am not connected to a network when clearly I am so I'm guessing it is possibly a network/IPv6 issue?
i have just discovered my desktop mode is completely dead of internet connection, I cant use utorrent or email etc. the metro works fine its just the desktop that's dead. I run wireless
I have an HP Pavilion g7-2233cl Laptop running Windows 8. I bought it new (refurbished) about a year and a half ago.
Until recently, I’ve had no problem connecting to the Internet via WiFi. But recently, although everything says I’m connected to our home WiFi and things are working swimmingly, I cannot access anything on the Internet. I get messages like “Unable to connect” or “Cannot show this page.”
We have other computers on the same WiFi, and none of them are having a problem.
I’ve tried several remedies based on tips I’ve seen on the Internet (using a different computer, of course). For example, I:
Deleted all the temp files.
Flushed a bunch of stuff using the Admin. Command Prompt: ipconfig /flushdns nbtstat –R nbtstat –RR netsh int ip reset c: esetlog.txt
The desktopUI all my software can connect fine to the internets, browsers, emaiclients, games etc etc. On the MetroUI nothing connects to the internet. for example with the windows app store i get the message (roughly translated from Dutch) "Windows store didn't connect to server or timed out, wait a few minutes and try again" clicking the back button top right, or the try again "link" have no response whatsoever.

I have a brand new Windows 8 Dell Inspirion laptop, and it has a horrible internet connection. I have not downloaded any new programs and I don't visit shady websites so I don't think it's a virus. Sometimes the internet is just moderately slow, and sometimes it just completely won't move, I will type in a web address and it will "think" about loading the page for 20 minutes before finally telling me it can't.
The problem is not with my wifi, I have another laptop that runs Windows 7 and have no issues with that one, or any other device on the network. It's just the windows 8 laptop.
I have Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160.
I tried updating the driver, but it tells me the driver is already up to date.
I have installed Windows 8 RP, and everything works fine, except I cannot access internet from metro apps: IE, Store, New, Mail etc. Does not access internet, even though I have access to internet from Desktop? I have tried everything, and googled for hours without any useful result.
Since I installed some "critical" updates from microsoft, there have been some network problems. The main problem that I noticed was that the ethernet appeared as "limited". Then, as I logged in, internet was actually working fine, but that was in desktop mode. Now, as I try to run an app from start screen, it said that there was no internet connection...
So I went to troubleshoot the problem but nothing was found. The other thing I noticed was that, by opening the "Network and Sharing center", there appeared something unusual:
I also booted up to safe mode with network to see if it still persisted, and it still continued limited and while opening the network and sharing center, it still showed that thing on the image.
All this happened just after installing and restarting for the new update, and so, I also tried to restore the system to the point before the update, but it was proven to be unsuccessful, in the end appearing a message saying that it must have not been successful because of the antivirus being enabled at the time (I doubt it), or because of an unknown error.
I recently did a clean install of a full version of Windows 8 on my computer. Some of my Apps on the start screen, ie Weather, News, Maps, Travel, Skydrive and other Apps such as Slacker Radio and Weather Radar Pro will open but give me a "no connection to the internet" message. If I switch over to my Desktop I have an internet connection.
I checked the charm bar/settings/Internet Access and it says "no connections available". The curious thing is the Live Tiles for the News and Travel will update and show the latest information, yet when I open them I get the "no connection available" message. I have no problem with the Store App, Explorer, Email or Music App. Those seem to work fine.
I removed my Anti-virus software, re-installed the Apps and still get the same results. For my internet connection I'm using a Virgin Mobile OverDrivePro2E7 WiFi Hub. I'm not using the Wifi, it is plugged directly into my computer via a USB port. If I go into Control Panel/Network Connections it shows up as EtherNet2 with a strong connection.
ca I bought a new laptop hp g6 2312ax, when I connect my broadband connection to this laptop internet is very slow but the same broadband connection is fast when connected to my desktop pc which is 2003 model pentium4, I tried all sorts of changing dns or ip whatever but no use. I'm currently using a 4mbps broadband plan from bsnl (wired connection) . The download speed is around 50 kbps where as it should be around 200kbps.
My Windows 8 laptop is having some WiFi connection issues.
Basically what happens is that every 5-20 minutes I cannot access the internet on browsers and the wifi connection is listed as "Limited".
The laptop: ASUS Vivobook S200E
The WiFi: Sky wireless router (no idea about model, it's almost two years old) But what I will say is that my Windows 7 laptop never skips a beat on this network, nor does my wife's Mac, nor do our 2 Android tablets, the iPad, the iPhone, the Android phone, and various devices that our friends connect when they come round. Literally no other device has any problems on this network, so I know (by the process of elimination) the Windows 8 laptop is the one with the problem.
In order to fix the issue I have to disconnect from the network, wait about 30 sec and reconnect again.
I have a samsung laptop and 4 days ago the internet access stopped working. I normally use it via wireless and I have tried it hardwired - no luck. I have restored the internet settings. The response I get when trying to connect to google is 'waiting for google.com' and it just hangs.
My new laptop will randomly disconnect from the internet but still remain connected to my wireless network. I've unchecked the box allowing the wireless card to be powered down, I've done ipconfig release and renew, and I've checked my drivers but none of it has fixed the issue.
Getting the limited connectivity problem when waking up my Toshiba laptop running 8.1. Having to reboot it every time I go to use it is getting old. Tried telling it not to shut off the wireless network car when going to sleep but that didn't seem to work.
Two days ago my ISP replaced my modem-router for a new one. Ever since the replacement, my main desktop computer won't connect to the internet "immediately". I checked the connection via ethernet and WiFi with my other computers (even tested every single one of my ethernet cables) and they work perfectly fine, except for my main desktop computer.
What my desktop does:
When I turn it on I have to wait for around an hour before it connects to the internet. During that hour, it attempts to identify something (I guess the IP? - the yellow warning icon gets displayed) and after 3 seconds of attempting, the connection drops and it goes back to saying "No connection". The connection is being made via Ethernet cable and I tried the troubleshoot but it continues to say that I need to plug-in a ethernet cable to my computer, thing is it is already plugged in and like I stated above, the cable worked fine with all my other computers. My desktop used to work perfectly fine with my old modem-router.
I attempted to do do some troubleshooting refreshing my ip using the cmd with admin privileges but nothing worked as it said every time that there was no media connection. My desktop just randomly connects to the internet by itself after an hour of attempting to connect and disconnecting and once it gets connected it works perfectly fine until I restart my computer or turn it off and then the next day it'll be the same thing over again.
This has gotten extremely annoying, what can I do to fix this and further prevent it from happening? - I updated all my drivers and it's still the same. It'll just connect to the internet whenever it wants to.
I had a BSOD on my week old Samsung 350E7C laptop. It was a Power_Drive_State_Failure. It has since recovered but now every time I try to go on Youtube, my internet connection just stops working. No pages will load and I have to disable my Wi-Fi and re-connect. I have tried several browsers, but the same issue happens.
I have a windows 8 64 bit system. There is a laptop with windows 7. I have my canon mp470 printer plugged into the windows 8 system via usb. Up until a few days ago we could printer from the windows 7 laptop through the network. I have done 2 things since then. 1.) I uninstalled mcaffee internet security and installed nortons internet security and 2.) I tried to update to windows 8.1 which failed part way through the update then it said the system was reverting back to windows 8.0
Now I can't print from the laptop. (nothing changed on the laptop only on the windows 8 system).
I just got a computer with windows 8 installed and the first time the system updated I can no longer use my wi-fi connection. When I hit my wi-fi icon to activate my internet it says it doesn't recognize any device..
Before installing Windows 8.1 anything that I put into my Skydrive folder (I had the desktop app) were automatically synced to Skydrive.com as well as my Android phone app, and anything I uploaded from my phone app were synced to Skydrive.com and were automatically downloaded to my Skydrive folder. Now my phone app and Skydrive.com still work fine, but the Skydrive folder does not. That is, nothing gets downloaded to my Skydrive folder and nothing gets uploaded to Skydrive.com from it.
I've tried different settings for it, I've tried offline only, online only, I've toggled settings in the Settings app, and nothing.
Something else that happens is that now there are duplicates of all of the files in the My Documents folder. Say that my PC is named Smith-PC. Now, for example, there is a file called Random Document.docx and Random Document-Smith-PC.docx. And this is for every single file in the My Documents folder. Furthermore, only the version with the Smith-PC in the name works. When I open the normally named file, I get an error:
"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for solution of this problem. Error 0x80070490: Element not found."
This is really annoying and now I have duplicates of all of my documents, half of which won't open and the other half which are named wrong with Smith-PC at the end of all of them.
Okay, so in Windows 7 I am able to connect my wireless to my phone, and run an ethernet cable over to my Xbox. If I use the ICS feature and configure it under services to allow ports 88 and 53 UDP, it works fine. This also allows my Xbox to seemingly add to this list of ports as it finds necessary.
The issue is however, with Windows 8, although I can connect to Xbox Live the same way, it does not seemingly allow the Xbox to add more ports that it deems necessary. This leads to that NAT error message that I am actually trying to do this as a way to bypass it.
In Windows 7 this only works if the connection is set to Home (not sure about Work), but not public. I'm curious if the reason this does not work in Windows 8 is that Windows 8 does not have a Home option, but rather only Private or Public settings. There is some small setting buried deep somewhere that I just need to change to treat it like Windows 7 allows Xbox to treat home networks and configure/add ports automatically.
I'm having a serious problem trying to connect my other laptops running windows 8, the host laptop that is connected to internet with modem is Compaq Presario g56 laptop also running windows 8, I'm connected to the internet with my evdo modem and this laptop is browsing fine, I download mhotspot to share this connection, this other computers are connected but showing limited connection in their network and sharing panel, the modem have access to internet and the private network I created on the host computer also show access to internet, so why are other computers connected to this computer are not browsing with this internet connection. attached is the screen shot of the host computer this problem had been persistent for more than one week
I am having trouble with ICS on win 8. On my old laptop (win xp) I used to be able to share my 3Connect dongle internet to connect to Xbox live. I recently got a new laptop with win 8 and whenever I share this internet connection I can never connect on my Xbox (the network to internet part fails). When everything is connected up and shared the Ethernet says 'Unidentified Network' which i believe is the cause of the problem. I've read i may require a driver update but i cannot seem to find one.
My Laptop: Toshiba Satellite C855-29N
what to do, maybe i am not setting up the connection sharing properly?
How can i create local WIFI network without having internet access on my pc. This seems to work if I have access to internet but when i disconnect internet connection my PC ( virtual router ) cannot see anymore other devices..
All other devices that are connecting to my virtual hostednetwork are working without any problems expect my pc. What have i missed that my PC where virtual hostednetwork is running cannot see devices in "virtual" network without internet access?
I just got a brand new Samsung Laptop for work. I dont know a ton about windows 8 either im fairly new to it. I work at a mental hospital doing security and we are allowed to have a laptop for over night shifts. I have an Alfa wireless antenna (cause i get low signal where im stationed) along with my normal laptop Wifi.
Heres the story. I was using my laptop antenna then out of no where it said "Identified Network (no internet access)" then my internet just stopped. I had this happen on my old laptop and it lasted a few days then worked like normal again. Then i switched to mt usb antenna and it worked fine for about 20 mins then all of a sudden it went it "Identified Network (no internet access)". So I was stuck with no internet. I tried looking up fixes on my ipod and i tried 3 Ways To Fix The Unidentified Network Error in Windows 8 and it didnt work I tried How To Fix Unidentified Network Windows - YouTube and it didn't work either. I'm dying here cause I have to sit in a room for 12 hours tonight with no way to keep my self from falling asleep or entertained.
My 8.1 laptop shows multiple network connections to my Samsung Smart TV --- One as "media connections" and 3 as "other connections". Both devices are on a simple wireless network using Linksys WRT54GS.
Under the "Network" page, most of the "Properties" of the TV connections are the same except for "Serial Number" and "Unique Identifier". Did I do something wrong when setting things up? Are these extra connections harmful? Should I delete some? How?
I purchased a new Windows 8, Inspiron 15 7000 series - 7537 last December. I had been using a router at a hotel for the time, and it worked correctly. When I arrived home, I had a Belkin router, and i experienced network issues in that i could not connect to the wifi. I could connect with Ethernet cable. The problem was fixed through customer support eventually, but I now have a new Comcast router, and i'm experiencing what appears to be the same or a similar issue. I can access the internet fine by wire. With wifi, it says i have access to the internet over the internet icon in the bottom right, but i cannot access webpages. I can use skype, and communicate through it.
Here is the result from the ipconfig /all :
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200] (c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:Windowssystem32>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration

I really need the wifi on this router working for this laptop. Let me note that it works on other laptops, so it should be an issue with hardware or settings on this laptop.
