Image Size On Monitor Has Changed?
Jan 22, 2014I am using Windows 8.1. Recently, when viewing a graphic on the monitor, I accidentally hit one or more keys on the lower part of the keyboard. The image immediately re-sized to a smaller size. Even when closing and re-opening the program, I am confronted with the reduced-scale image size. This has not affected any other software that I have on the computer, however.

Mar 7, 2013I've been dual-booting Windows 8 Pro and Windows 7 Ultimate, but a while back my Windows 8 kind of went "South" and wouldn't boot at all (I got an error message that a device was "not attached"). I have a recent system image on an external USB hard drive, but when I boot to "system recovery" using my repair disk it can't seem to find my USB drive at all.
The tutorials here mention installing a SATA driver to access disks that are not recognized, but this doesn't seem to be the case.
Windows 8 Refuses To Mount ISOP Image Because Image Is Sparse
Oct 31, 2012I have problem mounting .iso images in Windows 8 Pro.
The error message I was getting was this:

Essentially the problem is that windows .iso mounting does not like 'sparse' files. I had used Acronis backup to backup my original .iso files and this DOES use sparse files. You can check if a file is 'sparsed' by looking at the files details in properties. The 'P' in the attributes represents a sparse file. See the screenshot below.
The result? When I restored my .iso images I could no longer mount them.
The simplest solution I have found is to just copy the .iso to a new file - this seems to create the new file without the sparse flag set.
Windows 8 - Changed UEFI To CSM?
May 16, 2013I bought a Toshiba laptop that came with pre-installed Windows 8. I went into the "Bios" and switched from UEFI to CSM, Now my laptop just doesn't work. I am on a public computer posting this because mine will just not boot at all. It won't even show the boot logo, and I cannot get back into the Bios to switch it back to UEFI. I am not sure what information I could add on to here to be more clear other than I screwed up bad. The laptop didn't come with a disk, and I tried to hold 0 while powering up the laptop hoping that it would reset to factory settings, but no luck there either.

Dec 28, 2013I'm playing a browser-based game where we use signature-photos, and some people including me like to go a little nuts here and make photos with transparent backgrounds, the only issue is that transparent backgrounds have a lot larger files than if you just change the background-color of the photo to whatever the background of the website is, which in this case is #111111. Anyway, this worked perfectly on Windows 7, but since I switched to Windows 8.1, the background colors of the photos has changed, either that or the colors themself has changed. When I printscreen the background of the website, it's still #111111 while as the color of the photos are #080808, can this be related?
I have talked to a lot of players on this game who runs Windows 8 who doesn't have this issue.

Keyboard Layout Cannot Be Changed
Apr 3, 2014i've been using windows 8.1 for a little time in my new Sony notebook. First, i used windows 8 and had no problems, my keyboard layout was the correct one (Spanish - Latin America, 'cause i'm from Argentina). But after an upgrade to windows 8.1, the default layout was set to Traditional Spanish wich does not suit the layout I see on my keyboard, signs are misplaced. I went to the control panel and under the idioms settings i set Latin American layout to my keyboard, but even with the correct configuration (checked with the layout image that is shown in the configuration menu), signs like ` and @ are still misplaced. What can I do?

Can No Longer Login To Laptop - Changed ISP

Then I changed ISP and, again, did not login to the laptop....
Now when I try to login the "Welcome"wheel turns and turns then returns to the login prompt. It says "Locked" near the wheel....

Can Boot Drive - Currently C Be Changed To Another Letter
Jul 23, 2014When I installed Win8 (at this point, updated to Win8.1 Update) on drive V:, it changed it to C:. Since I'm used to the drive letters as they used to be, I'd like to change it back to V:. I figure I'll have to change all the registry entries for installed programs from C: to V:.
How to confirm that I'll have to manually make those registry changes?
Desktop Folder (under This PC) Changed To D: Drive?
Sep 15, 2014I don't know how this happened, but the Desktop folder under This PC changed to the D: drive. My system has two partitions, the second of which is the D: drive. The Desktop folder was not only renamed to "D:" but redirected to the drive as well. I tried to delete it from the registry editor and then add it back, but the D: keeps coming back instead. The desktop icon is still there, however.
Is there any way to delete the D: drive and bring back the desktop folder instead under This PC? Screenshot is attached.
P.S. In the screenshot, the actual D: drive (supposed to be next to the C: drive) is not shown because I deleted the partition in hopes of getting rid of the D: drive folder showing up under This PC.
File Names Changed By Windows 8.1?
May 12, 2014Win 8.1 has added a piece in brackets to files on my new PC. Now none of my slide shows work because each jpg has this bracketed info in the file name. I have tried overwriting the files with originals from a backup but these too are changed. Can I stop this happening? Is there a bit of code to delete the bracketed part of the many thousands of files affected?
I have loads of Nero nvc files that I can no longer open because of this name change.

Sep 15, 2014I was trying to use Windows Explorer to wirelessly browse my Android folders with the ES File Explorer app. The app issued me the local ftp IP and port to connect. I also setup a username and password for the connection.
When I entered those credentials on Vista, Win Explorer displayed folders as usual and allowed the usual drag and drop and cut/paste features. However, with Win 8.1 the interface looks like an HTML web page where all my Android folders display as links, and files and folders can only be downloaded. Is there some configuration setting I'm missing to make it look the old way?
The Folder Programmer Changed To Program Files

Nov 18, 2012I do a lot of AV system programming, which generally involves having to set my IP address for either my Ethernet port or WiFi card to manual IPs temporarily. I am having an issue on a relatively clean install of Windows 8 Pro that after I change my IP, when I go back into TCP/IP v4 to change it back to DHCP, it is already set to automatic... but if I right click on the connection icon and go to Status, it still has the static address. I tried to set it to another manual address and to hopefully go back in to revert, but that doesn't work.
The ONLY thing that seems to work is removing the NIC from Device Manager and then re-scanning for hardware changes where it will be automatically detected with DHCP enabled by default.
WiFi card is Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN.
Ethernet NIC is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57??.
I've got the latest available drivers, and using generic ones doesn't work. It's also on both NICs so I don't it is a driver issue.

Feb 23, 2014I was at friend's house last night, and every time I'm there with my laptop and we all want to watch some videos, or listen to music to his xbox, it' won't work, unless I right right click on the file/s and click on "play To".
But when I'm at home the videos and music play to my xbox with out a hitch. Now this didn't start until I decided to try and change something firewall related. My problem is, I don't remember what I changed with these settings.

And in the internet options, Lan setting , proxy is disabled....

Jun 17, 2013After last week' update I started seeing a lot of "The start type of the Windows Modules Installer service was changed from auto start to demand start." Even ID 7040 in my system event log.
It triggers when laptop is idle (win 8 pro 64 bit), the CPU usage goes to 30% and higher and the event log gets pounded with the above messages.

Feb 16, 2014Last night did some browsing and as usual left the laptop running. Long time ago I changed power settings so it doesn't lock after a period of non use or if lid closed. When I woke up found it was in a lock screen. Assumed some Windows update caused it to reboot so tried to log in. To my surprise it doesn't accept the password I have been using since i bought it 6 months ago. It returns a message "Password is incorrect. Try again".
I am 100% sure of the password and that I didn't change it. Have not been in the user settings since I set it up after purchase.

Jan 2, 2014I have an HP laptop that came with Windows 8 installed. One of the automatic updates ran and changed pathways to my files. If I click on Libraries, my documents, music, and pics that were there before the upgrade are not there now. I have to click c:/users/myusername/ then whichever folder I'm looking for. Is there a way to get that back so all my files go to one set of library folders instead of having a new set?
The update almost crashed the whole laptop. Also corrupted my save points and had to do a new restore point once the system was finally brought back up. I'm tracking down how to fix my app store tile now. The update also deleted all my tiles I had on my start screen.
