1. Keys do not work in Any of Internet Browsers. Even on-screen keyboard does not work. 2. Every time I double click a file, A pop-up "Do you want xyz to make changes to the computer ?" is welcoming me! 3. I click on any of the icons in the task-bar and a new window is opening. For example, If I click on the firefox icon pinned at the bottom, Every instance I click it, a new window is opening 4. I am not able to open a folder by double click. I can only open it by right click and then Open 5. None of the keys and keyboard shorcuts seem to work. But that is not the problem with keyboard because, I am able to type words in Wordpad and Notepad
I formatted my Windows 8 twice and still these problems are there.
Even if I restart it, things work fine for 5 min and then the problem would be back.
I have a problem on my laptop running Windows 8: I can't disable TouchPad Edge Swipes, so everytime i accidentally swipe on my TouchPad, Charms Bar pops up. I've disabled it using Start8 start menu, but the program cannot prevent it from popping up when using the TouchPad. I've also read Brink's tutorial (How to enable or disable touchpad edge swipes on Windows 8), but the problem is i don't have an 'Enable Edge Swipes' button on the driver's settings window (i think it's because i have a different laptop).
My laptop model is Sony Vaio VPCSE1E1E. I have installed the latest TouchPad driver from VAIO Support's website.
I like the theme and functioning of windows 8 but i really miss the hibernate option which is very useful to every user. Hibernating is the best option to start the computer from where we have stopped.
I have a TekNMotion Yapster Blaster XBOX360/PC headset that I use for my PC, but the mic does not seem to work for my PC. I have tried plugging it in the front jack and the back jack (I have a desktop PC) and I have tried to set it up again via "Set up a Microphone". In Sound>Recording my microphone icon has an empty bar next to it. Under the "Levels" tab in "Microphone Properties" I have "Microphone" set to 100 and "Microphone Boost" set to +10 dB. I am running a Windows 8 PC. This is the empty bar that I was talking about next to my Microphone's icon:
Windows 8 user. Is there a way to reverse the one finger scrolling on a new laptop? I reversed it for the two finger scrolling in the touchpad settings but there wasn't a similar checkbox for the one finger.
Every 20 or so minutes I have to keep going into my mouse settings to change the Verticle Scroll speed back up to 4, up from the default 1. This problem has been occurring since I got this laptop in november last year, and I've been up for 2 and a half hours trying to finally fix this tedious problem, I'm starting to lose hope and it's getting to the point where it makes me not want to even get on the computer. My Dell Touchpad program that came with the computer is always turned off when the mouse is plugged in, so that can't be why.
There are two ways for me to change the scroll speed, by going into the Windows 8 PC Settings>PC & Devices>Mouse & Touchpad, and the mouse properties that are in the control panel. When I change the Mouse & Touchpad settings they change the settings in the mouse properties but not vice-versa.
There is no KH-whatever file in my startup list.
Synaptics drivers for touchpad are up to date, as is the mouse driver.
My mouse is a Engage Optical Mouse, I've had it for about 2 years and I never had a problem with it on my last computer. My current laptop is a Dell Inspiron M531R-5535.
Just acquired my first win 8 laptop. I had a loaner win 8 and hated everything between the computer and OS. I really like this Lenovo but im still having issues with win 8. Mainly this computer and the rental one seems very bogged down. Everything from social media or streaming etc even scrolling down this forum page has such a Lag or delay. Is this typical for win 8, can i do anything about this?
the lag is a delay. everytime I would scroll down a page it would have a delay, or if i stream a video (I use chromecast) it is delayed and choppy. My Win 7 Laptop had zero issues like these.

Text "Red Shift" during vertical scrolling? I've noticed it with Firefox 27.0, Pale Moon 24,3,2, and Operax64 12.14. The text on forums looks normal until I move the vertical scrollbar with the mouse. While the text is moving it takes on a red tint. As soon as the scrolling stops, it reverts to normal color. Pretty weird. Only thing I did lately was use a program to calibrate the Gamma.
I don't like the two finger scrolling on Windows 8 for Asus. It works decent but I still prefer the old fashions one finger scrolling it seems to be more fluid when scrolling through pages. For me it still feels unnatural to use two fingers; I want my Windows 8 PC back and toss the mac feature for two finger scrolling. I'm not sure why Asus added this because it really ruins my Windows 8 experience as scrolling is an essential function for workflow. I'll put it this way if one finger scrolling was enabled I would have a 10 out of 10 experience versus two finger scrolling I would have a 7 out of 10 experience.
I want to know how to get smooth scrolling in metro app with mouse wheel. I'hv seen some videos of windows 8 it has really smooth - fluid scrolling with touch. I have smooth scoll in start but not in metro apps.
I am totally unhappy about windows 8. Many good features from earlier windows are missing such as -
1) You can not pin "Calculator" to the task bar. In earlier versions you could open the calculator, over other windows. 2) While scrolling to folders / files in Explorer or any software, the screen jumps abruptly to up or down. 3) While transferring Images from camera. You can not select part images for transfer along with renaming. This feature was available in Windows XP.
Is there any way to disable scrolling on the start screen or change the tile scaling by a small amount? I've got a 1680x1050 monitor and when there's 10 medium sized tiles across the screen, it activates the scroll bar, but there's no need for the scroll bar as all the tiles fit on the screen fine and scrolling only shifts them by a few pixels.
How to change the number of rows and a scaling tool that didn't work.
I got my scrolling wheel inverted due to powershell command i tried to check how it feels in the inverted way. but now i'm not feeling good and i want to go back to my normal scrolling. if i scroll down it should go down and up for up vice versa.
I have Latitude 10 tablet that now has Enterprise edition of Windows 8 installed and this has removed the Dell Picks section in the Microsoft app store. Is there any way to get this back? I have an app installed on another device that is Dell exclusive and I cannot find any way to get it installed on the Latitude 10 even though it is a Dell device.
I have turned everything on including sharing, etc. I first noticed there was a problem yesterday when I tried connecting to a Sony Soundbar. It didn't find anything in the room. I attempted to connect my Blackberry to my laptop and it couldn't find that either. BUT....my Blackberry connected to the Sony Soundbar and my hands free ear piece. So I attempted Dell CS and they told me I was 2 weeks beyond my warranty and it would cost me $129 one time fee or $239 1 year unlimited. I find that this was completely unwarranted considering how long I've been a customer and how many computers I have purchased from them in my lifetime. My warranty ended on 8/15/14. I've had nothing but problems with this laptop and even had to re-install the entire OS back in May due to a BSOD drivers error crash. I mean, come on.
The first thing I wanted to do to it was transfer the OS to an SSD, and use the 1TB drive that came with the computer as a data drive.
I wanted to shrink the C: OS partition so it would fit on my SSD but the Windows Shrink Partition tool wouldn't let me due to unmovable files.
I tried using the Windows 7 File Recovery backup tool to do a backup. With over 500 GB space on my backup drive and only 65 GB used on the 1Tb drive I was backing up, it kept telling me not enough disk space. Eventually I gave up.
I opted to install EaseUS TODO Backup and tried to backup the the whole 1TB drive. It raised an error indicating too many unnamed partitions. I opted to backup only the C: OS and the EFI System partition - leaving 3 oem hidden partitions not backed up as I wasn't going to do anything to them anyway. It worked.
I used EaseUS Partition Master to shrink the C: OS partition to 120 GB. Worked again.
I thought now would be the time to generate the Windows backup - created an image OK. Afterward however, it failed to generate the system recovery disk indicating some invalid parameter error. This was concerning. I went to the Dell Backup and Recovery tool and it told me it couldn't find the recovery partition. Not good again.
In disk management, all partitions are still there. I'm pretty sure the 3 OEM hidden partitions (40Mb, 500Mb, and 14.73Gb) had names in brackets like 'Healthy (Recovery Partition)', ... They all just say 'Healthy (OEM Partition)'. I'm guessing EaseUS Partition Master messed up their names and/or messed with their content.
At this point, the computer still works fine, and on the second pass I was able to backup the entire drive using EaseUS TODO Backup. I can't use the Dell or Windows backup utilities. I'm not sure what mess I created by messing up the 3 oem partitions, or if I can recover somehow.
I like to use a few ASCII characters in emails and letters. Like registered trade mark or cent symbol, etc. Sometimes even the happy face. Using Win XP I would use the Alt key plus a number. Now when I do that, nothing happens. How do I access these characters using Win 8.1?
Bought 8700 with win 8.1 on it not realizing the difference between it and the win 7 64 I use on my laptop. I run it in desktop mode. Twice I've signed on to live mail 2012 and all my email and subfolders have disappeared. Now I keep getting IE11 has stopped responding, can't find problem, must shut down. Never had any of these problems with my laptop or my old XP desktop. Any thoughts on un-installing win8.1 and installing a new Win 7 pro? Why did they stop support for XP
I have spoken twice to Dell Support on my brand new Dell 17 7737 and I keep getting "Service Tag is Not supported" when I try to go to the factory installed 3rd party software re-install support page. Neither time, and both of them were really lengthy calls, could not resolve the issue.
What gives, a brand new computer is not supported.
I have just finished downloading the Win8 upgrade of 2.6 GB. There was a munu for me to choose "Intall" or "Install by creating a disc". I have choose "Install by creating a disc" > Next > Save the ISO file at my drive C. The file was a Window Zip file . I want to write this file to my DVD, I copied it from drive C ans paste it to my DVD and click Burn to CD. The system takes about 5 minutes to complete the burning. However, when I want to install Win 8 from this CD, I find that the file still is a Window zip file. I use Winzip to open it, but could not find the "RUN" button.
