Debugging :: Computer Resetting When Idle Twice A Day
May 14, 2014
computer will have reset itself. I've started it back up and it's said:
C:WindowsMinidump51414-29 Memory.dmp
It always boots up just fine and runs okay, and doesn't restart while I'm working on it.

I've ran a sfc /scannow with no errors reported and also re-imaged my machine using the DISM tool. Here is a link to my MEMORY.DMP file it's 1.1GB! Is that normal?

I've noticed that when I leave my pc for some time and the screen savers come on, then the screens go blank (my machine doesn't sleep or hibernate) when I use the pc again I can see that during the time the monitors had turned off, the CPU usage was at or above 50% ? When I use the computer after that, watching movies, photoshop etc the cpu usage is much less than that!

I walk away from my computer for a bit and come back to a BSOD. This happens quite regular. I have run my system both stock and highly overclocked. When it started BSODing on me I put it back to stock to see if that worked but it has not worked.

I'm using this laptop and recently my system's been BSODing while it's idle in the middle of the night.
Wanna add a note that there's an old minidump from august which I never looked into, and that I've recently moved to a different country with the laptop (if that changes anything).

My system currently has a blue screen around twice a day from what seems like a driver issue. I have tried driver verifier, swapped out the GPU since I thought most things pointed to that and did a fresh install. The only thing I have left to do is update my motherboard bios. I am questioning if the GPU was even the issue since I still got a crash... Below is the guide to Driver Verifier I used so you can see what steps I took. I am at my wits end and am not to great at pointing out what driver crashed or whats left to do after the OS install.
Driver Verifier-- tracking down a mis-behaving driver.

I constantly have my laptop restarted when I walk away from it for a bit, it's been happening for the last couple of months now. On the occasions that I have caught it restarting I saw a glimpse of the BSOD. The last error mesage that I saw on BSOD was MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

Every time I turn my laptop on, I lose my thumbnails and it has to reload them. I've tried today to go through a few refreshes/reinstalls, and I'll occasionally be able to keep them, but then I just start losing them again.

Reset password on Surface Pro 2, they haven't used it for a month and could not remember last password they used. Built-in resetting option won't work because it will erase all user files they have on that tablet. I usually use Nordahl password recovery tool when i need to blank or change forgotten password, it worked fine for me on regular non-tablet Windows machines, both options - CD and USB boot.
I'm not familiar with Surface tablet, so i did online research on how to boot Surface from USB, tried all options, but was not able to boot it from USB stick (i used 3 different USB 2.0 sticks).
Here is what i tried: I was able to get into boot screen and disable Secure Boot Control, then able to get into Advanced Options screen, checked USB drive option. Tried 3 different USB sticks with 3 different password recovery software - no luck. Any experience with Surface Pro 2 password recovery? Either i'm doing something wrong, missing a step, or maybe older USB sticks don't agree with Surface USB 3.0 port? Should i try to plug in external DVD drive and attempt to boot from it?

I have a new laptop with and therefore learning Windows 8. my concern today is in the taskbar I have the touch keyboard always on my taskbar and the English keyboard settings. I go into taskbar properties, and I have tried every conceivable option I can think of to stop this unlock toolbar, apply , save, uncheck settings apply, save, lock toolbar apply, save. etc from my reg acct as well as from within admin acct. But still after every reboot, they appear back again.

So I reset my pc to factory setting and everything went good but when starting either internet explorer or google chrome it seems like they saved my browsing history.
I used the same email account that I used before the resetting.
Is that good? or my pc wasnt resetted at all and there are still some files that weren't deleted.
Plus I found some google chrome files that remained in a folder and I click on one of them and it brought me to google chrome official download page.

Asus laptop Windows 8 stuck at Resetting PC 2%, Only option is hard reset??
This laptop belongs to my Grandma (87 years old). **She did not make the recovery disk for the computer.**
I got to the Recovery options and it has been stuck at 2% for about 6 hours. Asus OEM X55C Windows 8
NOTE: Yesterday I told Grandma I would see what was wrong, but it would bug out, freeze, etc when trying to log into the administrator. The screen would go totally black and then freeze. So, the computer has shut down improperly several times.
However, it did repair the disk last night before I attempted this recovery.

I want to reset my Windows 8 system but I have a question.
I've made a seperate partition (acts like a backup for situations like this). This partition stores my music, pics, documents etc.
If I reset Windows 8 will it also affect this partition, or just the partition where the OS is installed?

Recently, when right clicking on the explorer icon in my task bar I noticed that all of my pinned folders and recent places had disappeared. I looked in my recent places folder and found that that was empty.
I also realized that other programs had lost their extra jump list options, for example Skype, which when right clicked should give the option to quit Skype, but instead only had the basic 'close window' and 'unpin' options.
The Skype jump list reappears once I restart Skype, however the explorer jump list is still missing when I restart my PC or explorer.exe
I have tried deleting the files in C:Users\%USER%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations.
Then when I restart explorer.exe and pin things to my explorer task bar icon, everything is fine...
Until a little while later (for reasons I cannot explain) the jump lists disappear, even though their files in AutomaticDestinations still exist!

I have only one administrative account associated with my Windows 8 PC. I have this said account password protected yet my child can bypass the logon screen by merely resetting the PC. What kind of security is this?
How can I go about setting it up so that a password is require regardless of whether the PC is reset or not?
How are we suppose to go about keeping our children from unmonitored PC access if they can simply reset/shut down the computer and bypass it?

I have a new Lenovo G580, came with Windows 8. When it first arrived I mistakenly added new partitions (repartitioned) to the hard drive. (Actually it should not be a mistake - It should allow me to do so, its my choice.) . After I repartitioned I realized that reinstalling partition of Windows 8 no longer works through onekeyrecovery of Lenovo. All the partitions are there - including the hidden partitions arrived with PC - all the recovery partitions but it does no longer reinstall Windows.
I called Lenovo - I believe they will send me the new recovery disks, if so. But until then I am trying to find a solution - and I learnt that there is a feature of resetting windows in the Windows settings "remove everything and reinstall windows."
I will use this option and make a recovery hidden folder and ISO myself with this fresh install of Windows with "paragon backup" etc.
But.... I need to know if this resetting PC option is really safe - If since the time I used Windows 8 until now, some viruses and malware spreaded into my computer - would these have the possibility to inject themselves to windows reset feature and the files it will use? As these should be in my C: drive I believe this is a possibility.
I will use this image after reset always for reinstalling Windows 8 so I have to make sure there are no viruses or malware entered into it.

I have an Asus K55N-DB81 running windows 8.1 and I decided to create a custom power plan. So I created one and went to "Advanced Power Settings" Option and then went to the Processor Power Management to change the Minimum CPU usage to 1% and the Maximum to 50%, I click Apply and Ok and X'ed out. I Closed the Lid, Came back to my computer and I checked to see if my CPU settings Changed back to 100% Minimum and 100% Maximum which it DID. I keep Changing it back but it keeps resetting itself ...

The crashes usually occur when the computer is not in use. I will move the mouse and either the screen will come to life... or the computer has crashed.
I updated NVIDEA drivers end of July and thought I fixed it. But apparently not.

About 2 - 3 weeks ago, I've got a lot of bluescreens, and I've solved it by removing my USB wireless adapter and connecting to my router by using an Ethernet cable, this reduced the amount of them, I think that I only got one after that. In the last sunday, my hard drive broke and bought a new one in monday, and after formatting it and reinstalling Windows 8, the bluescreens returned and now they're more than ever!!!! And one thing I have noticed, is that two of them appeared when I was copying big files which total size was about 60 GB from a directory to another inside the C: .
I'm starting to think that this is related to the motherboard or something like that.

So I restart it, hit F12 brings up a boot window where my options are Boot Manger (clicking on this takes me back to my desktop) Boot Setup is the 2nd options, then Diagnostics (which I have run and says nothing is wrong then takes me to my desktop) then I forget what the last option is.

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 2013 64-bit) was playing up today and instead of restarting it, I foolishly clicked on the option to "refresh the pc". i know this would remove all my current programs. I decided then to do a System Restore. Now, all my programs are back, however, the majority of my programs such Firefox, Microsoft Office and such will not even open! I would just like to know if there is anyway to get these programs running again without having to reinstall them all? Furthermore, would I need to reset or refresh my pc as I can not uninstall old programs via Control Panel?

I have an older computer that was not used for over a year.I recently hooked it up to use it.When i did i had no picture and continuous beeping from PC. I tried dusting out inside of PC,cleaning and reseating the RAM and made sure all connection were tight and on.
Still the computer when turned on has no pic and beeps continuosly not in any pattern to tell you errors from the BIOS.
Some say could be video card,it was hooked to the integrated video card, but i also installed one in PCI slot and it does the same thing it beeps and no pic. Also some say could be the battery or another hardware failure.
I am thinking of trying to sell it if i can get it working again it was working a year ago till i set it away because buying a new PC.
This is the model this site was no Gateway Support - 1009566*Gateway GM5472 Desktop Computer

I am dual booting Windows 7 with Windows 8.1, and I went to reboot to go into Windows 7 and it gave me a BSOD. This is NOT the first time this has happened I had to leave Windows 8 in the past because of constant crashing. I am tired of this and I want an explanation.
System Specs:
GPU - Radeon HD 7850 2GB
CPU - AMD FX 8150 Eight-Core 3.6Ghz
RAM - Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz 8Gb - GSkill Ripjaws DDR3 1600MHz 8Gb = 16GB Total
MotherBoard - BIOSTAR TA970XE AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
PSU - CoolerMaster 700W
HDD - Samsung 1TB 7200 RPM
DVD/BluRay - ASUS Black 12X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA
Chassis - ThermalTake Chaser MK-I
I made a partition of 250GB for Windows 8. I don't know what else to say here. Windows 8 seems to just crash a lot, it happened on an OLDER computer of mine, but this is a brand new custom build. I can't even comprehend why it's crashing.
Also I guess it's worth noting I installed this today and installed windows updates today as well.
I forgot to mention I was using COMODO Anti-Virus, I saw in a previous post about my exact error that it had something to do with Comodo. I have since uninstalled that.
Also here is a preview of the error:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0xc0000018 (0xffffc0000019c5d0, 0xffffc000009ea9f0, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 101113-34796-01.

Every few days my computer will BSOD when waking from sleep. The screen will display this message as the error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL cmudaxp.sys". Also sometimes the system will crash during sleep but no mini dump will be created. I have looked at the minidumps that were created and the only thing its pointed to were the cmudaxp.sys driver, hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe. I tried reinstalling the 8.1.8.1822 drivers for the soundcard but that did not solve the problem. Today i reverted back to older drivers 8.0.8.1821 and will see if this fixes it. .dmp files included in attachment.
System:
i5-2500k @4.4ghz
Hyper 212 Plus Cooler

The problem is that every now and again (30-60 minutes of use) my computer appears to freeze, EX: the screen is fixed and I cant move the cursor and nothing on the screen changes, the PC does not seem to react to keyboard input: CTRL+SHFT+ESC for example. I have noticed at least once (while playing a game) that the sound that was playing when it occurs tends to loop.
When this happens all I can do is switch the PC off from the Power Source - wait 10 seconds and replug and boot. If I try to boot without unplugging from the Power Source - the PC fails to boot asking me to put in the Windows Disk.
This issue occurs in different types of use, sometimes when I am playing 3D games, sometimes watching youtube or even reading the BBC news. No events are logged which give indication to what is happening.
SECONDLY: On some occasions when I leave my PC idle - I come back an hour later and it has rebooted itself (No BOSD Logged) to the Boot Failure Menu.
I have had one blue screen in the past 2 weeks (DPC Watchdog Violation) which seems to point to my SSD, but I cant figure out how to fix it - or if that is a secondary issue. Unfortunately as my SSD is only 64 GIG when i did get the BOSD, it didnt store it due to the space remaining on the disk (16 GB).
I have tried to attach my system event viewer (Cleared prior to this latest incident) but the uploader says its an invalid file .
Additional Notes
OS: Windows 8.1 (Installed on Release Day, Never had problems with 8.0)
GFX: Nvidia 550 TI
Disks: SSD (Crucial M4 64 GB) (OS Install), 1TB (Hard Drive storing games and files on software partitions)
8GB Memory (tried reseating)
PSU: 700 WATT
I know the issue isn't heat related as I have monitored this. I think the problem may have started a week back when I installed the latest NVIDIA Drivers - I have since uninstalled and reinstalled them, all my PC Drivers are up to date. to reduce load on GFX I have unplugged my main monitor.
I have run Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender (My AV), RogueKiller, TDSKiller - several times, no viruses/rootkits, the occasional ad tracking on SuperAntiSpyware probably due to internet browsing.
I have no windows updates pending.
