Mar 11, 2014I have an alienware laptop with windows 8.1 installed. Never had a problem with it in the last 4-5 months until last night. For some reason on shutdown it gave me a BSOD , I rebooted went to bios , disabled INTEL SpeedStep , and started browsing the internet , when a second BSOD interrupted me. I am not sure what the problem is , I am attaching SF file here.

Mar 15, 2014I just had a BSOD for the first time, it occurred during a shutdown. A program was preventing the shutdown, but I couldn't tell what it was (was trying to go to sleep). It occurred after encountering some weird problems. First after playing Mass Effect 3, my Ethernet port was somehow disabled, and I couldn't connect to the internet. Then I decided to play some insurgency, then insurgency crashed. I had to close it via task manager along with steam. After that I decide to shutdown my computer, it was taking long, and then it BSOD.
Afterwards I ran a sfc scan, and it came up saying something like it found some corrupt files but couldn't fix them all
I fixed the ethernet port problem, by re-enabling it (I was still able to connect to the internet via WiFi). Also ran a virus scan with Mcafee nothing showed up.

Jan 2, 2014My screen seems to have a grey filter overlaying it. See attached.
When i booted it in safe mode, the screen is showing the right vibrant colors. When i booted it back to normal mode, the screen is greyish but strangely the mouse is showing the correct white color.
I have googled across numerous website but none of them bring me closer to the issue. I have read the thread, Personalize Suddenly Greyed Out but this is not what i encountered. The options or buttons or selections did not grey out, it affects the screen only.
I cannot afford a system restore because i shared this laptop with my gf.

Mar 6, 2014I'd like to report a BSoD and would like to solve it. It is occurring on my Laptop a Lenovo Y510P. Almost 3 months old. Got it this January.
The BSoD only occurs during shutdown and it "Does not" happen always. I noticed a pattern though.

Nov 19, 2013I have solved this issue by not leaving my laptop plugged into my television through HDMI while it restarts to install updates. If you run into this issue, make sure you try leaving all ports open on your computer.
A few weeks ago my PC ran into a Blue screen of death error. I'm not sure why or exactly when it happened, but I think it may have led to the issues I have now. About 3 weeks ago (I think) I was playing a game and the forced restart to install updates thing popped up. It said I had 15 minutes before my system would restart and install updates. I was a bit cranky at the time, so I got mad and decided to look up on the internet how to disable forced restarts for windows 8. I came across a thread on a site much like this that explained how to open your system registry and delete the forced restart file or something similar.
I opened my registry and couldn't find it, so I ended up not deleting anything, but I did keep my registry open on accident and my computer restarted while it was open. It crashed during the update install and gave me a BSOD error. I restarted my computer and it began installing updates yet again. It got to 30% and then went black. A few seconds later, the Asus logo popped up with the loading circle below it. It said attempting to repair or something similar to that. It eventually failed to repair, so it asked if I would like to proceed with a system restore. Seeing no other options, I clicked yes. The screen went black again and the Asus logo showed up with the loading circle below it. It failed to system restore and took me to a blue screen that isn't the BSOD. It said there were other options like refreshing my system, and it assured me that I would not lose my files (but it said nothing about apps).
I decided to do that over the manufacturer restore. It worked, but I lost all of my apps that I had installed. After redownloading and installing all the apps, I thought it would be over. About a week later another windows update popped up. I thought it would work fine this time, so I let it go. The same thing happened, and I ended up having to system refresh again. This happens every time my computer restarts, and it is very aggravating. I'm not sure what to do about it, although I haven't tried to manufacturer restore yet.
TL/DR; My computer has to system refresh every time it restarts, causing me to lose all of my apps and have to reinstall them each time. I think it has something to do with my computer restarting to install updates while my system registry was open.
I wasn't sure what to provide for specs, so I'll just add in the usual Ram and stuff:

It mostly happens when doing a system restart but occasionally happens

Jun 19, 2014BSOD error. I've read through some posts with similar errors and I've done my best to try some of the basic solutions for this (i.e., update drivers) but can't seem to pin down the actual problem.
I woke up this morning and I had a Driver Power State Failure message on my computer. I've spent all day trying to get it fixed and I'm about to throw this 3 month old laptop through the window (I'm running a Lenovo Y510P with Windows 8.1).
In addition to the BSOD when I try to shut down my computer it never actually shuts down. The screen will go black for about 5 minutes but the light on the power button stays on and the computer starts back up again on its own. However it never actually gets to the desktop. The circle of dots just keeps going and going and after I force it to shut down twice the Automatic Repair kicks in but it says it couldn't fix the issue. When I enter the advanced options and do a system restore I can finally get to the desktop. When I try doing a system restore from the desktop it will get to the end and I get an error message saying it didn't work.
When I get to the desktop some things just don't work right. Right click on a folder, clicking on the file explorer pinned to the taskbar, etc. locks explorer up for a minute then nothing happens.
I've also ran SFC and a it said some files were corrupt and couldn't be repaired. Attached are my log files.

I downloaded all updates for Windows 8, then updated to 8.1 and downloaded all but one update available (Bing Desktop). I am still getting these BSOD. Sometimes in Chrome, sometimes in Steam, and sometimes randomly
I've run the Memory diagnostic tool in Windows, and it found no errors. I've attached the SF Diagnostics folder which was created.

Pc Won't Shutdown Or Sleep Only Restart
Jan 1, 2013I was running Windows 7 home premium on my pc on a 2TB hdd, and it was running fine, I had a 500GB as a separate hdd aswell, attached at the time. So I installed windows 8 on the 500GB hdd, activated it, tried to restart, I restarts, but now in both windows 8 and 7, I am having trouble:
In windows 8:
Press shutdown, it does nothing, press restart, it restarts, press sleep, it restarts.
In windows 7:
press shutdown, it restarts, press restart, it restarts, press sleep, it restarts.

Nov 9, 2011Running Windows 8 Dev. Preview on a Dell Latitude D610 (1.73Ghz, 2GB). System Hibernates fine (my main mode of powering off) but will not properly shutdown or restart. Every time I hit shutdown/restart it goes to a black screen. I know that it's still running because the power light is still on and the hard drive light flashes just as if it were still in use. I've let it sit for 3 hours in this state and it still refuses to shut down.

Sep 15, 2014I've been working with a computer I've put together for a couple of months now, and I haven't been able to figure out what exactly is causing various BSODs. They mostly happen when coming out of sleep mode. The crashes would generally happen once every couple of days. One time I did get it to crash while running the driver Verifier application while copying files from one folder to another. I've been whittling the components left in the machine down, and I'm down to just a hard drive and dvd-drive as extra components at this point. The only configuration I have left to try is to switch to a different hard drive and only run that.
The errors would generally have to do with various "Pool header" issues. I've tried running memtest overnight and it'd get though 6-8 passes easily each overnight session. I've done that a couple of times. I also have run chkdsk to see if there were any issues on the hard drives, but those have come up without issues too. So since I'm not seeing any hardware issues, I'm thinking that this is just a driver issue. I have updated whatever drivers I could see that looked out of date and I make sure that I have the latest Windows Updates. I've tried to keep the software installed on the machine to a minimum after I did a complete reinstallation of Windows 8.1.

I cannot restart or shout down my computer anymore. When i press call the shoutdown or restart i just log off, and nothing more happens.

Feb 26, 2013New Dell XPS 8500 following installation of programs and an attempt at creating a image using the built-in imaging program now fails to restart or shutdown from the start screen. When I attempted to create an image I got a statement that "there is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location". I had 1.34 TB free on an external drive for an image calculated by Windows as 135.78 GB. After the image attempt the problems started. Today's session with Dell did not solve the problem. Their tech will call to walk me through reinstalling the system to the original state. I hope this is not a common Windows 8 problem.

Now when my computer wakes up from sleep I receive a DRIVER_IRQ_NOT LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD related to cmudaxp.sys, which I've discovered is related to my Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card. I am running the Windows 8.1 beta drivers directly from Asus's website, and the drivers were working fine before my clean install. What could be causing this problem now, after everything was fine before?

Jan 15, 2013Any magic keystroke combination for "Sleep" or is there anyway to create one? I know about Win+I then Power then Sleep.
Any option to stop scheduled tasks or other triggers that "Wake" your computer from sleep? I find my computer running in the morning after putting it to sleep at the end of the previous evening! I have reviewed all 41 scheduled tasks created by Windows and installed applications and "apps" and found none that have the Wake Computer check box checked. What's annoying is the fact that once woken the computer does not go back to sleep again! I am using the supplied balanced Power plan.
