Why does windows 8 require me to back after I change or delete a file and then go forward to see the changes I made? Should not the change be seen right away? without going back and forward?

For example, let's say I have a recorded .mp3. I want to change that .mp3's icon to something different than just the normal .mp3 icon one of these guys. Is it possible to change only the icon of one specific file?
How would I set up Windows 8 so that I can edit the `path` environment variable in a fixed pitch font such as `Console` or `Lucida Console`? I don't want to change the font for other parts of Windows - only where paths are displayed. It seems I've been doing this in a terribly inappropriate font for many years and semicolons aren't great.

I've used the internal boot menu, msconfig and easybcd to change it to 10 seconds but it always reverts back. I even tried using the win 7 text menu with the same results. Currently I use the graphical menu because I like it with my touch screen. what would be causing it not to hold?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently had to update my brother-inlaw's new laptop to the 8.1 version. He doesn't use email so when I was prompted to enter an email address when you installed he update, I just put in a random email address and password not knowing I'd need that info to sign into the laptop every time you turned it on. Once I finished the install, I didn't restart it to check to see what it would do. Now he tells me when the laptop starts up, it wants the password for the account I entered when I put in the random account during install. He tells me you cannot change the user name (email address) so I'm at a loss here on what to do to get him logged onto his laptop. Is there something I can do to get that info changed or at least get him logged into the computer so that info can be changed? I have created a new email for him to use but it does no good when I can't even get into the computer.

I am currently trying to change UAC, but if I click on Change User Account Control Settings, nothing happens. Same thing if I click any of the links with the admin shield next to it. I have tried to change my screen brightness for the first time since downloading windows 8.1(about a month ago) and it is stuck a the lowest level. I have used the keys, the settings, and even the "Adjust screen brightness" button after clicking on the battery in bottom right of screen. I looked at my drivers and checked if my "Display adapters" needed to be updated, it didn't.

I am unable to get my Windows 8.1 installation to use anything but the US keyboard format, despite the fact that all my keyboard and regional settings are UK.
In particular, I go into the "Keyboard" application in Control Panel, and English (United Kingdom) is listed as the first item.
N.B. English (United States) is listed as the 2nd item in this list, and I can't remove it (I remove it from the list, but it is put back in the list when I restart the keyboard application).
Whatever I do, the keyboard layout remains the same - for example, the " and @ keys are the wrong way round.

It works fine, but I still get a User Account Control notification when I'm trying to launch the apps even though the app it's technically asking about is Microsoft Windows Based Script Host!

Using Windows 8.1. I have English and Japanese input languages added, and both are listed as options in the language toolbar, but it is impossible to select anything but English. Windows+Space allows me to navigate to Japanese, but releasing the keys or pressing Enter does nothing. The Left Alt+Shift shortcut also does nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen installing my Windows 8, I put the PC name as "Usmaan" and the account name as "UsSy" but after the installation and having used the laptop a bit more.. I changed the account name to "Usmaan".
The problem which I have is that although the account name has changed to "Usmaan", I still see the name "UsSy" every now and then when doing some development or when I for example check the path of files.. it will says C:...UsSy...file.txt
I should also state that when I was installing Windows 8, I tried specifying the account name as "Usmaan" but it complained that I cannot have the PC Name and and the account name the same.... hence why I put it as UsSy.
How do I change the UsSy name to Usmaan permanently?
My PC is running win 8.1. The problem is I can't change my user account password. Whenever I try to change, I get this error: error.jpg

How to change the "Save As" directories in Libraries.
Basically, i have 2 drives running on my laptop being :
- C Drive: SSD ~ i want this to store all my system information + very frequently used programs.
- D Drive: HDD ~ to store
* My Documents,
* My Pictures,
* My Videos,
* My Music, +
* Games + etc.
The problem now is that all the directories above are pointing to C Drive as their default save location. How to change this so that by default, all the files above will show "Save As" in D Drive?
How to delete or disable that folder I accidentally created don't know how, because I want to change those folders to under D drive, how to change location folder to another drive.
