Cannot Restore / Refresh Windows 8.1 Single Language Edition
May 29, 2014
I've got a problem with Windows 8.1 Single Language Edition 64-bit (English/Russian/Ukrainian).
When Windows 8 updated to 8.1 last year through the Store, I lost the ability to Restore and Refresh (a feature I had used several times previously).
Since then I have been using the same installation of 8.1, and it has finally become too laggy and bloated and I need desperately to Restore (files are all backed up and removed from computer, ready for Restore).
Things I have tried already:
- Found my Product Key using a keyfind program. My version of 8.1 came preintalled on the laptop, no DVD case, or e-mails with Key.
- Made a recovery USB Flash Drive (my laptop doesn't have a DVD drive). Recovery drive works when I boot from BIOS, but says it is invalid when I try to Restore.
- Tried to download an official ISO file from Microsoft, but the site says my Product Key is invalid (its not invalid).
- Tried using the Enterprise Trial ISO to Restore, and am now stuck with an expired trial copy of Enterprise.
I still have the Recovery Partition, and didn't delete it when I made the Recovery USB.
My computer is an ASUS Zenbook prime UX31A. All I want is to Restore. Even if its back to Win 8. I do not understand why all options seem to be broken since the update to 8.1. It seems intentional.
I want to Restore legitimately, and use the product I bought legitimately. But if this continues I may have to seek "alternatives".
I bought the sony laptop with single language pack. The OS language is in spanish. I need to change the language to english. How to change the OS language in single language windows 8.
My laptop Vaio is running windows 8.1 single language and I want to renew install it. But recovery in lap is windows 8 with i just want install drive C and keep my files on other drive.
I want to know how to upgrade Windows 8 single language to Windows 8 Professional, what is the way? Should I use third party program or not? I don't know.
I only have a Windows 8 Single Language key purchased. They mostly sell that version in my country. But I need to perform a clean install of Windows 8.1. How can I do this? How to get the ISO? I can't install 8.1 PRO ISO with a generic key and they use the SL key to activate right?
I maked Windows 8.0 Single Language EN-US ISOs (x86 and x64) from RU-RU ISOs (I removed Russian and added English).
When I try to install it in VMware Workstation (I tried x86, then I tried x64), on a half installation on both installations it says error: Windows could not see the offline locale information. Error code: 0x80000001.

Can a group of computers (20-25 Units), all running Windows 8 Single Language, share files, printers and an internet connection via a LAN? I need to make sure that the OS I will be getting with my new machines will be able to do this. The cheapest license I could get for this is the Windows 8 SL? Is if up for the job? I also have 2 switches, a router and my internet source is from a cable modem.
while i am trying to update my windows 8 single language from the windows store after downloading all the important updates then also it provide this kind of error. here by i am adding the screenshot of the error message. i have also disable antiviruss and firewall
I just bought this Sony VAIO Fit 15a and i play fps games like League of Legends, Dota2 and COD4:MW and at the first ten or so minutes i play them smoothly but after that the fps will be halved and it seems like its lagging. I tried to play them all in lowest settings but the problem still persists.

I have been trying to change my language all day but I cant seem to execute the command "dism /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:lp.cab" in my command prompt. I get the above error. I have downloaded the language pack and put it in my root C drive and renamed it ip.cab
Most of the game i've installed are not compatible with my windows 8 single language. Of course my laptop's requirements are enough for the game but the problem lies within the windows 8. Are there any solutions to this matter ?
This pops up sometimes on the desktop after I power on
Your PC RAN into a problem: C:WindowsMinidump-40214-46000-01.dmp C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP C:UsersUserAppDataLocalTempWER-104406-0.sysdata.xml
It asked me to send details to windows and I sent. I don't know what's the problem and these are the only other problems I experienced: 1)Slower cold booting 2)It takes a longer time for the lights to off after shutting down. We can only turn the switch off after the lights off
Recent PC activities: 1) Defragmentation for OS(C) and Data(D) 2) Installed and played The Sims 3 (usage is around 9GB) with Mods 3) OS(C) Disk Cleanup deleted items: Downloaded Program files, Temporary Internet files and Temporary files (not sure if I deleted System Error Memory Dump Files & System Error Minidump Files or not)
So does this means the ISO I have is tampered with? I don't feel safe installing Windows 8 from the ISO. I am now downloading a supposedly untouched russian ISO but where to download the English Language pack and how to replace it in the ISO while still keeping it a bootable ISO?
i am using an inspiron 14 with windows 8 single language (US English).
i recently downloaded a chinese music player from www.duomi.com and windows 8 is only displaying part of the chinese wordings in the software correctly, the rest are like alien characters.
If I create a custom refresh image such as a blank retail windows 8 will it restore my files. I'm trying to go from wim 8.1 pro wmc to pro because it is not activated and I have a pro product key. Is there any way to downgrade without losing files settings etc.
What i mean is can I reinstall windows 8 pro (I currently have media center) without losing eveything?
Just recently I was using my computer when an error appeared saying I had a drive error that needed to be fixed. I clicked the error in the system tray and then the computer restarted in order to fix the drive error. Well, I went into an "automatic repair" but then it froze on the "select your keyboard layout" screen. I then tried the "refresh your PC" option, but it wouldn't work saying that the hard drive was locked. I then tried to restore the PC to a restore point but it wouldn't let me do that either. As a last ditch resort I tried to use the "reset your PC" option which I gather is just a guided reformatting of the hard drive but it wouldn't let me do that either, saying that the required partition wasn't there. I took it into a PC repair place and they said the hard drive needs to be wiped, that the registry is corrupted or something along those lines. When booting from the windows 8 CD I tried to go into the installation menu and it won't even accept the product key on my package.
All I can really access is the command prompt. I guess I just need to reformat the hard drive and perform a clean install of windows. How to do this reformatting? I've never done it before and don't want to screw it up. I'm not worried about saving data on the computer, nothing really important on the drive that isn't already backed up on my laptop.
I have an infected laptop. It has Windows 8 installed.
The problem I'm having is that NO programs will execute, I cannot load "Change PC Settings" so I can't refresh, reset or restore Windows. I have tried the method of holding down SHIFT and restart but to no avail.
I can't load programs from usb/cd before boot but I can in legacy mode and not uefi (not sure what difference that makes).
I have successfully scanned with Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 in legacy mode but it found nothing? I've also manage to scan again using legacy mode with Malwarebytes but nothing.
I also cant load up the Control Panel, it loads but no icons are showing. Command prompt I can load but not in Administrator.
A month back I accidentally deleted the wow6432 node from my registry under system_user. I believe this is the root of all my problems. Once I did that, my toshiba c885 D 64 bit would not boot. I forced the computer to shut down and pressed f12 to get to the system recovery options. I then restored to a point before my blunder. Well, my laptop worked for a while and then magically the screen goes black and will not reboot. I did sestem restore a few more times since I could get a little bit of work done in between restoring and the screen turning black again. After I was fed up with having to run system restore every other day, I decided to run system refresh to keep my files but reset everything else. After restoring I am getting the same problem and find myself again running system restore every other day just to keep working.
My questions are if I completely reinstall windows 8 and start from scratch, will this definitely solve the problem? I thought system refresh would have worked, so I'm not sure. Also, are there any other available options for me to fix my computer without starting from scratch?
I accidentally removed a usb cable from a powered usb hub , and a volume slider of some other program appeared superimposed and floating above my music making program , so I restarted the pc. From then on , it wouldn't start , and kept saying preparing automatic repair, then reached 40% and wouldn't go any further.
I unplugged my 2 external drives because they weren't showing in the bios , and plugged them into my laptop to check they were ok , and I am relieved to say they are.
Since i removed the drives , my desktop ( asus ) will eventually arrive at the blue recovery screen , but all these things that are supposed to fix it , aren't working.
When I try to refresh , it says the drive where windows is installed is locked. I've tried to do a system restore from 3 different restore points and none of them have worked ( one actually cited a mozilla profile as being the cause )
Re-image wont work because it cant find the image file , which is on one of my external drives which are now unplugged. Automatic repair diagnoses , but then says it cant repair. It also will not boot into safe mode.
I can use command prompt, and was hoping I could rename the system hive name , but the command prompt says X=windowssystem32.
I've tried cd%windir%system32config , but it says " the drive , the path, or the filname is not valid" . I have successfully ran regedit from the command prompt .....
I had no reasons to expect anything untoward before yesterday. The automatic repair thing happened before , about 4 months ago , but i was always able to get out of it by switching it off at the wall. Now that doesnt work and its in an endless loop .
I have hirens bootcd but there are a lot of things on it that i dont know how to use. I was able to get mini xp working via hirens but couldn't access system restore.
I have a problem here. Windows edition does not appear on system page. How can i fix this problem? I already tried "sfc /scannow".
+ I changed these old ones with the original ones: basebrd.dll.mui and shell32.dll.mui + "mcbuilder" on cmd via administrator privileges + than i installed KB2902864 update + restart + BINGO!
I am running Windows 8 which came pre installed with my hp notebook, but all I see in system properties is "Windows 8" and I typed "winver" into run and all I see is "Windows 8" and nothing about an edition
I need to know this because I am getting an SSD and will need to make a Windows DVD so I can do a clean install onto it.
I've got windows 8 and I think it's the home edition. now, will this thing burn DVDs on it? I know I can record CDs with it, but I can't find information about burning DVDs, even in this windows 8 for dummies book.
I have to run a few programs only available on linux.
As seen on almost all the sources I visited, I installed VirtualBox and downloaded the last Ubuntu "iso" file. after having installed the new OS on virtualbox, I tried launching it and got the very often found "VT-x is disabled in the BIOS" error.
The solution also given in all the sources I visited is "enable Hyper-V" in the "windows features turn on or off" menu. Problem is : I can't find this option (I even looked in the least probable sub directories, just in case)
I found out this feature was only available for "Pro" versions of windows 8/8.1.
My question is : Is it feasible for me to run a virtual machine, or even run a machine on dual boot on my default-installed-windows 8 machine? I don't have the money to buy the pro package (which, for some reason, is MUCH more expensive than the "previous windows to 8.1 pro" update).
My hardware is more than sufficient: 64bits i7-4700HQ processor, 8Gb RAM DDR3l
I tried the guide for activation backup but on reinstall the WMC is missing, so the restore of the activation status fails. Even it seems impossible to integrate the Media Center into the upgrade due to the encrypted install.esd file.
A fresh install via retail iso also failed with the "core" message (wrong version?) giving a slui code afterwards. How to manage to keep the activation intact using the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade?
I have dell 14r special edition with win8. i'm trying to partition the drive and create extended partition. however the factory image is stored at the end of drive and all of the drive is considered as primary drive. i've two options
1. Delete or move the partition. if i do that will the recovery work. 2. Burn the factory image and delete the partition. but your backup software is not working for me to backup the image.
