So I downloaded an installer of a game game and it is 100% complete but it seems that I can't run the file. When I double click on it it just loads forever and I also noticed that in the Task Manager the Windows Defender is the highest in memory and cpu usage.

I have been trying to view webchat sites, the ones where you can type in a box and communicate with the person on the live stream however for some reason the video never loads. I have tried all browsers, updated etc but just doesnt work. In fact I cant even type in the message box.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI loaded Windows 8 x64 about a week ago, it has booted fine every day until this morning. Instead of the loading windows logo its just a black screen that never does anything, I tried safe mode but F8 does nothing. What would cause this? It loaded just fine about 10 times, the only problem I had was with the installation I had to disable the hyper-threading to install the 64-bit version.

Everything's fine except on occasion it loads up blank, like it's just been newly installed. It takes longer to boot when this happens (a couple of minutes as opposed to ~10-15 seconds). It still signs into my profile as normal, but then I'm displayed with this Metro Desktop screen:
If I right click> all apps then everything appears to still be there. A restart solves this and it loads normally.
I just went to a web site that I have been going to for years, and I was using the 'page down' key as I often do. I got to the end of the page, and I saw a "flash" - loading page, at the bottom of the screen, and the next page automatically loaded. I didn't have to click on "next". I just continued to "hit" the 'page down' key.
Is this the new normal, maybe coming, or just something unique to that web site. Because I like it. Using Firefox, windows 8.1
I have made a few changes to speed up Firefox that you see on Google in the "about:config" area. And I have added the "Fastest Fox" add-on.
If there is some setting I can do that would apply to "all" websites, I sure would like to do that.
Accidentally switched off my computer. Now I can only get Windows 8 to load if I select the disc with Windows 8 on it from the boot menu.
If I look at the actual BIOS settings the HDD is stated to be disabled.
The main board is a Gigabyte GA-Z77 and the disc is a Crucial M4 SSD.
I tried getting the BIOS to reload but that made no difference.how I can enable the SSD again so that I don't have to go through the boot menu each time I start the computer.
After the 8.1 Update yesterday the Windows Store keeps automatically opening at boot. After I close it it will then re-open fifteen minutes later.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Laptop with a Core i3 2.27 GHz 4GB DDR3 Dual Channel Memory and 500GB hard drive. Although this is a problem with both my laptop and desktop, desktop specs are in the specs section. When I boot up windows and then click Desktop in the Metro UI it loads very slowly. I have very minimal programs starting up with windows. I will post a screen shot below of what is starting up with windows boot on my laptop, and post the screen shot of my desktop when I get home. I believe that I have just what I should have booting. There is 2 Intel items that I left booting and some item names JJ, I am unsure if that is my user account or if that is some kind of spyware. Virus scans come back clean, I've done the boot time scan scanned the hard drive in my laptop from my desktop computer as well.

no, this is NOT a disk problem...
i copied these exact same files from windows 7 the exact same day i copied them back to windows 8..
also windows 8 started going mad if i read these files from my backup drive AND my normal drive .. it happened with TWO separate files not just one and on BOTH hard drives windows 8 started with the 100% disk usage crap..
i did manage to delete both files through the command prompt, but it sure did take looong time... i then recorded another 5+gig tv show file on windows 8, and windows 8 started going crazy again ..
now my freaking hard disk does not show a normal status on a smart check!!
i'm 100,000,000% sure this is a windows 8 problem since i'm back on windows 7 using big mpeg2 files with no problems... but my f'ing smart check isn't showing good status anymore

Black screen on windows 8.1 . Here's the situation:
- I have windows 8.1 for some weeks. every thing works fine
- today after going to sleep mode I can not start windows. it goes to a black screen after windows logo and restarts won't work.
- Tried the 'fixmbr' thing on command prompt from windows startup repair.
- Windows startup repair obviously finds nothing
- tried refreshing pc from startup repair but after a few minutes it said that it has failed refreshing
- Tried forcing windows to go to "safe mode" by using command prompt but the same thing
Any solution except formatting and reinstalling windows? My laptop is a custom CLEVO p150hm1.
So recently (around a week ago), my computer started taking forever to load YouTube videos. The videos buffer "sometimes fully" and still don't play. This also happens with Webms on any website.
If it's related, I also updated my (IDT) audio drivers around the same time this started happening.
This only happens some of the time (with no relation to the length of the video).
I just discovered this only happens when I'm using Skype (or any other voice chat).
This is still happening even when not using Skype. It's getting really annoying. Also, if a video doesn't play and I load up a bunch of videos at the same time, they don't play either. But then a few seconds/minutes later, they all randomly start playing at the same time. It's really weird.
I have done a bunch of tests (by loading up a bunch of videos) and apparently this is caused by Shockwave Flash. ALL of my audio stops working randomly, and on Google Chrome, when I got a prompt to stop Shockwave Flash (because it was not responding), I clicked "stop," and as soon as I did so all my audio resumed working and the videos started. This is really odd.
Apparently it's not Flash because Spotify is doing basically the same thing with my browser closed.
Apparently I'm also going to make edits all day. I'll keep updating everything I find out. So right now what I forgot to mention is that whenever I click the volume changing little button, it's supposed to make a sound immediately right? For me, voice mixer stops responding for 10-20 seconds, then 10 seconds later it plays a sound. Should I reinstall/remove my audio drivers or what? I
I now remember that the old audio drivers I had were RealTek High Definition Audio drivers. I updated them to IDT through the HP website with this exact model. I know I got the right drivers for this model, but this is horrible, all the bugs and general-unworkability of this.
After fiddling around with ubuntu and OS booting stuff, I managed to corrupt my master boot record before powering down my pc (running windows 8 pro x64)
I booted with the windows 8 disc and none of the options were useful (same hdd locked problem).
I managed to fix this by running repair (instead of install) from a windows 7 disc - it seems the windows 7 disc can remove the lock. This sounds like a sound solution, but it doesn't work for me. The startup repair just goes on forever, and ever, and ever and never does anything. If I don't disable secure boot and EUFI, it doesn't even go all the way into Windows 7 setup. It just sits there at the "Starting Windows" screen forever.
I built a very high-spec gaming PC last August and installed Windows 8. I upgraded to 8.1 later and did not experience any problems until I needed to reinstall Windows 8.1 in February in order for USB devices to function properly (restoring or refreshing Windows 8.1 wasn't an option because that function is currently broken (sort it out Microsoft!!))
Since then, a unique problem seems to have developed. My CPU is an Intel-4770k, so when I first boot up the PC from shut down, or when I press the hard restart button on my computer case, the computer boots up very quickly and with no problems. However, when I click 'Restart' from Windows, the interface shuts down, and my PC remains active, but nothing else happens for a good 2 or 3 minutes. After that time, I see two red LEDs on my motherboard flash (I guess that is the PC posting) and the computer starts up.
I am clueless as to why the Restart function has such a massive delay. I followed the steps on one thread which told me to go into msconfig and disable all start-up applications and to do the same in task manager, but after doing so and restarting my PC, the problem persisted. Unchecking it in the toolbar of the task band remove the icon only till next reboot(!)

I installed the software on my Vista(64) system OK, but when I loaded the DVD into my Win 8.1 all the drive does is spin. It's been over 10 minutes and still spins away. I do get win explorer window with files shown normally with the mouse pointer spinning as busy.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy PC boots up in 10-15 seconds, but then it sits at my desktop with everything functional for about 10-15 minutes before my startup items (Battle.net, Spotify, DNSCrypt, etc.) actually start loading up. Even after the items have loaded up, Windows Update continues to tell me that the service is not loaded and that I should reboot. I have downloaded the .zip from the forums including all the default services reg files, ran them all to return to default, even ran Tweaking.com Windows Repair, still the same issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just updated my computer from Windows 8 to 8.1 (via Store), and my computer is working fine except for the right-click menu on the Desktop, that is taking forever to load.
First I thought it was some problematic shell extension (specially because Intel Graphics Control Panel was also updated, and the new version had icons along to the options). So I run ShellExView and disabled the mentioned extension, but the problem was still there after I restarted my computer.
Weird thing is that the problem only occurs when I click on a "empty" place on the Desktop, but clicking on icons on the desktop, or wherever else is OK. It's also weird that it occurs both when I'm on the Desktop or when I'm on File Explorer, accessing C:users*username*desktop (it's also weird that, when I'm using File Explorer, sometimes, some desktop icons, such as my shortcuts and folders, disappear).

I have Windows 8. Received a Toshiba Satellite p875 last year for Christmas. Recently when I shut down my laptop it goes into "installing update" mode, only it does not install anything. It will stay in this mode for hours or until I physically shut it off.

I thought a virus was there so did a full scan using Kaspersky Internet Security 2013, nothing found.
I haven't d/l'd any new software recently.
I have tried to upload music to my micro SD card from my iphone, but the icon in My Computer is not showing, not in Device manager either.
Don't know if they are related but the problem started just after the above incident.
For some reason the green bar goes all the way across the top of the screen before the devices and printers menu will load. In then loads without an issue after waiting for almost two full minutes. This is a core I7 Win 8.1 PC with 16GB of ram and an SSD so it screams otherwise.
I do have a lot of devices on my home network but my windows 7 PC which is on the same network loads the devices and printers menu almost instantly. If it were a device hanging up you would think that the Windows 7 PC would also be affected but it isn't. I will say that Windows 8.1 does identify a whole lot more devices that fall into the category of "multimedia devices" on the network than does windows 7.
I just purchased a asus laptop it has windows 8 and takes forever to load anything slow connecting to internet ; web pages anything it just crawls.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed 8.1 on my desktop with 3 local user accounts (no Microsoft accounts) and no user passwords, and Guest account Off. I have bypassed the lock screen but whenever the computer is switched on or a user signs out, the OS loads the last user instead of going to the user select screen. Something that all Windows OSs have done from go to Win 7. I can back arrow which does display the user select screen.
Or more importantly, any way to make it act like all previous Windows systems. I would not be fussed if this was a single user computer.

Every time i restart my computer,it logs in quiche but the start up programs take forever to run around 3~5

The rest of them are disabled
The attrib +s +h command that is used to make a file a system and hidden file is no longer working. When i try to use the command on a folder, the folder just shows up as a normal hidden folder which can be easily viewed using show hidden items in view option. It looks as if every system file is not recognizing itself as a system file.
Also every folder in my system has appeared a desktop.ini and thumbs.db folder.
I am running Windows 8- 64 bit
How to make the 'Libraries' folder structure appear when doing a file open file save. In both case I can see the folders labeled Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc. but I cannot see the Libraries folder.
Is this possible? How?
I don't know how I did it but I got both Windows 7 File Recovery and Windows 8 File History active at the same time. I upgraded from Win 7 to 8 Pro and transferred settings so win 7 file recovery was already active, when I tried to turn on win 8 file recovery I got a message saying I cant because win 7 FR was active. So I deactivated win 7 FR then activated win 8 FR, for giggles I went back and turned on win 7 FR and it worked. Now I have both active, from what I have read this was not possible. Did I break my OS or am I just lucky?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn Windows 8.0 File History, it had the nasty habit of duplicating your library files on your backup ( in my case, my external USB backup drive ( Replica 2 Terabyte ). By DUPLICATING, I mean they get copied over and over and over again... This happens to ALL of them, even though you have not touched the majority of them for YEARS. (File History is suppose to copy them over the FIRST time, then copy a new copy with a new name (old name plus date) if you edit the file in any way). I turned of file indexing on ALL my drives, except my C: drive, to see if that would stop it ( this is recommended in many threads on other sites ).

If I right click on the folder and go to send to all I get is the dvd drive unless I shift right click first then a drop down of more selections appear but not send to compress. Is this something that need to be activated. I can un-zip a fle from the view tab.

The SFX files unzips the contents to a folder on my hard disk (no problem), but then tries to run another program (installer.exe) that is located in the extracted folder.
The program fromm inside the SFX runs fine if I set the compatibility to XP manually, but the problem is that the the SFX extracts the files to a different location each time it is run.
Is there a global way to make a program (installer.exe) run in compatibility mode wherever it exists?
