Is there a way to disable tab restore in the immersive version of IE 11 on win 8.1 spring update?
I always end up with many open tabs from past sessions and it gets harder to find the right tab.
Alternatively, is there a way to "close tabs on exit" ?
I just had a user come in with a problem with IE on her desktop so I thought I would see if the Modern UI browser would have the same problem. When I went to her Start/Tile screen, all she had was the white tile with the blue "E" which took me back to her desktop IE. Could not find the blue tile with the white "E" which on my Windows 8 is my Metro/Modern UI browser. Is there a way to put back the Modern UI IE? I went under all applications and it wasn't there either. Why would it be obliterated from her system in the first place?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 8.1 and it's modern internet browser (which opens in full screen etc etc), just because it's fast (I tested it, faster than anything else) and looks great. My problem is not THAT big, but if there is an solution I'd like to hear it.
How can I pin this modern browser to my desktop, or taskbar (down there y'know) as a shortcut?
I've been reading some threads that say
- it CANNOT be done,
other threads that say:
- IT CAN be done with some Registry Editing or something,
and some say
- it CAN be done with Metro App link (I tested it, great app but won't include Explorer)
Is it possible to do it with regedit? And if so, I'd like to know how and what is the exact path to create a shortcut (I'm not THAT good with reg editing)
I have a question for all the wise ones here, what is the best email program to use besides the windows mail that is installed in windows 8.1 I really do not like it, also how do I disable that program from checking emails.

I have just upgraded Windows 8 on my Surface Pro to Windows 8.1 and quickly seen an option to enable/disable browsing history to be sent to Microsoft on one of the initial custom Settings pages which launch straight after an upgrade. My Norton trial that came preloaded in my HP laptop was about to expire so I removed it using the Symantec Norton tool remover.
Now I only have IE 11. The Firefox and Chrome browsers won't connect to the internet. I tried system restore a couple of times but that's not working either.
How to get my browsers back. I ran the adware removal tool, AVG scan and malwarebytes. Everything is clean.
After updating to update 1, i am becoming more and more frustrated with the inability to disable modern app title bar that was included in the update. I have absolutely no use for it. it just gets in the way, when using remote desktop and other apps. please tell me there is a way to get rid of this useless "feature" (through registry or otherwise).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of 8.1 RTM yesterday and have a problem with Weather App. About 20x per second I get error id 10016 when I launch the app. It seems to be saying that my user does not have rights to launch "Immersive Shell" local server. From what I can see however this is picked up from defaults which do allow launch.
I've not changed any permissions as I don't really understand DCOM but do these setting look correct?
In DP there was possible to run Immersive CP directly from the Metro tiles, by launching tile with the toothed wheel? Is it possible to add the wheel tile again to Metro in RTM?

Today when I try and access my folders I just getting a message saying 'no messages from the last 2 weeks', meaning I cannot access all those useful emails that I have kept on purpose without using gmail through chrome. I have looked through the settings and cannot find if there is a way to change this - is there? Or can I un-install the update and just go back to using the old version, and if so, how would I do this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy parents bought a PC last year running Windows 8. I set up there talktalk E mail accounts in the Windows 8 Native E mail client from the Mail tile at the start screen without any problem. All worked fine until recently when in order to download an app they had to register an Outlook E Mail address. Not sure if they had updates applied as well but they had to start logging on to the PC at boot up every time using a password. In an effort to resolve this they restored the PC to an earlier time which has cured the logging on issue (ie no password required) but when they access the Mail tile from the start screen it is an outlook E Mail account that comes up. I have tried without success logging into this outlook account and then adding the talktalk accounts. I even tried using my own account but could not add that either.
All they want is to click the Mail tile and get there talktalk accounts to come up just as before (no outlook or hotmail or anything else). Is there a way to reset the E Mail client/tile in Windows 8 back to what came with PC so that I could set it up just as I did when the PC was purchased. They are running Windows 8 and do not wish to restore back to factory settings as they have a few other bits and pieces of software installed.If they upgrade to Windows 8.1 will they be forced into using a password to log on every time ?
