Apps / Software :: Store Broker Opens On Boot And Uses 97% CPU
Feb 28, 2014
Have a problem in that whenever I boot my laptop in win 8.1 (pre-installed) the Store Broker opens and immediately starts using excess of 90% of my CPU. In addition I cannot download anything on the Windows Store. This happens:
This happens on boot and when I end task in the task manager, it pops up again later, even if I don't open any apps. It always starts when I open Store.

I, and others, have tried everything proposed in the above. For some, some solutions work, for others like me they don't.
Brand new Toshiba laptop. McAfee anti-virus (tried solving by turning off), hardware working fine.
It also seems to open every now and again in the middle of other, unrelated activity - though I haven't logged that much time since the upgrade, obviously, to form a solid opinion about this. It isn't listed as a startup program, so I can't figure it out.
So I booted up my pc this afternoon, but notice with my monitoring software, my cpu activity was going nuts.
I opened task manager, and sorted by cpu usage, and " Store Broker" was using app 35% of my cpu just sitting at desktop. I ended it in task manager - what the heck is this and why would it be running?
I have been reading up on the Runtime Broker using high RAM, it is just this one app that does it
My Laptop has 4GB of RM and normal use it sits at around 40% to 50% used
When I launch Xbox Music app, runtime broker RAM usage increase until it gets to about 2.5 GB (95% RAM used), it then stays like this for a long time causing my machine to go slow, eventually this will drop to about 800MB and everything runs fine (but this is still far too much RAM being used)
I do not have this problem when running any other app
I have tried a reinstall and also disabled live tile (believe live tiles can cause this) is there a cache directory for music I can delete to see if it makes any difference.
I am on slow BB so don't want to do another re install as I takes 2 days to re download all my music pass content.
I recently upgraded my W7 Home premium to a genuine copy of 8 Pro that I got through school and now every time it boots, note pad opens up and has a smaller window saying "Access denied." I don't see anything funny looking in the start up section of task manager and everything in 7 seemed to be good and virus free before the upgrade.
I've dual boot with Windows 7 and 8.1. It worked fine. Recently I've repaired Windows 8.1 boot problem with Win 8.1 DVD. Now Windows 8.1 directly opens without dual boot menu. But when I restart, the boot menu comes and works fine.
Yesterday, I just finished installing my programs on a new Dell Laptop running Windows 8.1 Core Edition. All the Apps worked a few days ago when I last checked them. However, yesterday most Apps would crash to the desktop on opening. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all of the Apps and they now work apart from the People App.
The People App opens, synchronises with my Hotmail account and I can search and display contacts. However, when I click on All Contacts or search alphabetically, the App crashes to the Desktop (see enclosed error report).
Strangely, the People App works in other accounts on the same Laptop. I've run the Fixit apps.daigcab which found several errors and fixed them. I've also run SFC /SCANNOW which found no problems.
The default PDF opener (Windows Reader) opens my PDF fine but the links are just text, they are not hyperlinks. It works fine in 7. How I can get these hyperlinks working?
In fresh paint when you select save as the bar pops up but then closes instantly. in mail when trying to attach a file the bar pops up but then closes instantly. It happens in other places too!
It is possible update for all users the Windows Store apps with a local account belonging to the Administrators group? Then, I believe that the management of updating of the Windows Store apps can also be managed only by administrators. Right? If so, how do I do this?
I tried downloading various apps from the store, but the message I get was I can't install this app.For example, I tried to install PDF Reader 8, and I get error code 0x80070032. Does the error code reveal what the problem is? I am running Windows 8, not Windows 8.1, on the Lenovo IdeaPad.
About three days ago, all new style apps stopped working. I click on the tile, get a deep blue screen, and nothing else. On the left side of the screen, I can see the app as if it is working (just the name of the app, not content), so I can close the window and get back to desktop. The same applies to the STORE app. The only tiles that work, are the links to desktop applications, which open correctly on the desktop. The fault also affects all windows system apps. For example if I search on the start screen for "windows update", I can access "Windows update" as it just opens a window on the desktop, but if I click on "Windows update settings" nothing happens. The same is true with all windows system apps that open in the new start screen system.
I've uninstalled two Microsoft updates that were installed over the past three days, no change. I uninstalled AVAST, no change, so I reinstalled it! I tried restoring the system, but found that I had only one restore, and that was corrupted. Very strange. Without access to many windows system apps, the computer is really limited. The desktop seems to be working OK. I can't refresh the PC, as firstly it is a system app that runs from the start screen, and secondly because I upgraded from win 8 to 8.1 online, this can't be done anyway, as I don't have a disc. I'm really trying to avoid reinstalling windows 8!
(Pavilion dv6, i7 processor, 6GB ram, originally win7, then I upgraded to win 8 and now 8.1. I've been running 8.1 for some months without problems, just occasionally on start-up from sleep, I get "error in non-cached memory" BSOD, and the system restarts.)
For some reasons, unknown by me, i try to access multiplayer mode on my gaming apps that allows online access will not connect to the internet. It tells me that i am not connected to the internet when i am clearly connected to it. My internet is through router and it works fine; i can access my browser just surfing the web. Its just this specific thing that i desire to fix badly.
I really like windows 8 and stuff, but ive been having problems with windows 7 so i decided to install windows 8.1 and never look back, but it appears that ive had an issue for the first time ever with windows 8.x
So I was trying to make this game called blacklight retribution run on windows 8 (it crashes for some reason)
And at some point i was installing some radio apps for the metro interface and trying to play the game at the same time (my PC is pretty weak -3.1ghz AMD processor, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd and a radeon 3300 hd integrated graphics card)
So my windows 8.1 (with the latest updates) crashed with the all-cool-new-bluescreen-of-death and after that my windows store app renders its content as if its broken, here's what it looks like:
I restarted windows numerous times, but the windows store app still appears to be "broken" but other apps seem to work as they should.
I am new to windows 8 and I couldn't find a way to restore windows to an earlier point, I know a very straightforward way - reinstall windows 8.1.
When I try to download Metro apps from Windows Store, I receive an error message saying "Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again later. Error code: 0x80010108".
I Googled it and tried to reset Windows Store cache by wsreset.exe but it didn't work. It occurs to every app I try to install.
Is it possible to download free apps from Windows Store directly (without going through "Windows Store" icon/apps in Windows 8.1? I'm having a problem with Windows Store in my OS, whenever I try it, it just said no network connection, but I can surf no problem using FF/Skype etc. If I can go directly to Windows Store website and download the apps directly from there, it'll be awesome, but everytime I tried, it just goes back to my OS Windows Store.
I have Win 8 Retail Final Professional English x64
I have installed and uninstalled many apps from the Windows Store. But I have realized that, after having uninstalled some of them I didn't like, if I go to "Your Applications" and select "Applications not installed in this computer" I still see them like in a kind of "History" (like in the Internet browsers)
How Can I Remove The List Of "not installed apps" in Store ?
After installing all available updates of windows 8.1, my checkbox for "Show windows Store apps on taskbar" simply disappeared from the taskbar properties. Moreover, the on and off option from Settings -> Change PC settings -> PC and devices -> Corners and edges -> App switching also seems to be forever gone. In other words when I open an app I can't close it (Esc isn't working any more or X option) and I can't see it on the taskbar
Is it possible to update the apps I already have installed from store?in windows 8 on store icon was showing the number of updates.in win 8.1 this doesnt work.
In January I bought a Dell laptop with Windows 8. I recently upgraded to 8.1. Now most app tiles have an x on the right hand side of them, and I cannot access PC settings, the app store, and most other apps.
Experiencing issues trying to download game apps from the Microsoft Store. He gets a message stating that the install can not be completed and the error code is 0x80070091.
I used Team Viewer to connect to his and attempted to do several different free games and all of them do the same thing.
I ran Malwarebytes and had some Mindspark pups which we eliminated. Did several of those scans and they have come back fine.
Checked his Windows Updates and there only 3 optional ones, Silverlight, bing bar and something else, can't remember which right now.
Ran the HP assistant to make sure that there were no HP updates that needed to be done.
Then, ran a sfc/scannow and the 1st run through came back with some corrupted stuff and, I guess, it fixed some stuff?
Ran that again earlier today and the log came back much shorter than the 1st run last night.
At this point, I don't know where to proceed from there... I am attaching the log ...
I rarely use Win 8 apps, and run in desktop mode almost exclusively. Was having issues and was suggested I advance the OS to 8.1. That requires Store app. Store app gives a very generic "unable to connect" message with no options. I've done some research here and tried various things to no avail:
-refresh the store app -a few cmd things -restart -turned off McAfee AND windows firewall
Some suggest doing some type of system restore which claims to wipe out all desktop system apps. That seems quite extreme for a program/connectivity issue.
when I bought my Windows 8 laptop, I liked the Windows photos app which was default to view photos.
The main feature I liked in that was a slideshow feature which shows collection of pics in a single frame similar to this.
Attachment 42179
(for better understanding I attached image of win 8.1 lock screen slideshow) Then I installed Windows 8.1 (i choose the option to keep old Windows settings, Apps) and I disabled auto update for store apps.
However after updating I found that photos app along with other system apps were updated to latest version and the feature which I loved was missing. When I press slideshow it just shows 1 image per frame.
how to downgrade my photos app to older version? Or how to install the old photos app in Windows 8.1 I have the files took from WindowsApps hidden folder.
