Feb 15, 2014I want to be able to hit the Print Screen key to bring up Snipping Tool.

View 7 RepliesI am using a browser that starts up automatically in Metro. When I want to get a copy of the screen I end up going back to the Metro screen to start up the snipping tool and it opens in the Desktop, but I need it in the Metro area to get a copy of my screen in the browser. I have had to resort to the old fashioned way of getting a print screen and pasting it into Paint then saving it...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use the snipping tool to get a screenshot and save it to my desktop but it never appears on my desktop? I do another snip and save it to my desktop and it says "capture already exists" - but its not on my desktop?
I can view it in my menu under "recent items" but the home of the file is shown in the photo. Why is it not on my desktop as the file sting says it is?
When I use the Snipping Tool and want to save the snip, the tool wants to put the saved file in the Pictures library. Is there any way I can change that default to another folder or even another drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter running sfc /scannow some time ago, it found file corruption and eventually I found that the corrupted files were Snipping Tool files and one Calculator file getting corrupted in 8.1 by viewing the sfcdetails.txt file (attached). When I run the sfc command every few days, I find that Snipping Tool files are corrupted again. This started after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1. This is very strange. What would cause only a Calculator file and usually Snipping Tool files to keep getting corrupted when there are so many other system files?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow do I go about associating an email program to the snipping tool in Windows 8. When I try to send the snip via email I get the message that an email program is not associated with it. I could use a detailed description. Not as good as I used to be doing this since the stroke.I had no problems sending a snip using windows 7. I did not have to associate an email program to it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm working at an office where when you hit the Print Screen button, it causes a printout in addition to the normal copy to clipboard. I just want to copy to clipboard without wasting toner and paper. It can't be a program on the computer as it's clean with just Windows 8.1
It actually happens on all the machines (whether Windows 7, 8, or 8.1). Is it a program installed on the server? Is it a setting in Windows? How do I stop this behavior?
I'm using Outlook as my mail program on Windows 8.1. I also am starting to use Photoshop Elements 12. In Elements I see a method to make a PDF of photos and email them to contacts.
Is there a way to export the Windows 8.1 Outlook contacts to the Contact list in Elements 12 ? or failing that is there a way to print the contacts so I have a hardcopy reference from which to enter the info into Elements ?
When I right click an app in the start screen of windows 8.1 the customize bar at the bottom of the screen does not show up. What does happen is that I get a menu when I right click with the commands on the menu. What has happened to the customise tool bar? I had it once and now it is gone.

Yesterday, IObit Driver Booster was released, it said the easiest, one click "update" all outdated drivers. It's free version, but I don't know whether this free software are better.

However, when I go into control panel and select "check for updates" it literally does nothing other than sort of freeze up...not a crash just runs real slow and it "clocks" Windows update tool never comes up. Everything runs fine and normal otherwise
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running 8.1 on an HP desktop, with IE version 11.0.2.
Some time in the past week or so, the bar at the bottom of the page when I am in a browser session, launched from the desktop, no longer appears. It's the one that usually shows the Connection, Safe to Eject, my Norton status, Volume icons, date/time, etc. I use automatic Windows updates, so I'm kind of assuming it was something there that did it...but don't know for sure.
All I want to know is How Do I Get It Back? I especially need that volume control icon, so I can mute all the ads when I open a news video on Yahoo, Bing, or MSN.
This bar shows just fine when I'm looking at the Desktop screen, just not in the browsers.
i know how to disable the tool tips from popping while hover nearly every where, but i can't seem to get rid of the ones on the explorer ribbon,eg. expand ribbon after you hover over the arrow and especially on the file one also, like come on these are so explanatory i don't really need a tool tip box popping up for them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:
(Vimeo was taking forever to process)
It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.
Can I have icons on the Start screen that do not show up on the Apps screen ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to analyse boot performance using this tool on 8.1 Pro.
Windows Performance Analyzer
I have already updated to the latest version of ADK but after rebooting it fails. I have Windows 6.3.9600 Build 9600 and Performance Recorder version 6.3.9600.16384(winblue_rtm.130821-1623) which I downloaded yesterday from MS.
Can run this on 8.1 or do I have some incorrect version?
About three days ago, all new style apps stopped working. I click on the tile, get a deep blue screen, and nothing else. On the left side of the screen, I can see the app as if it is working (just the name of the app, not content), so I can close the window and get back to desktop. The same applies to the STORE app. The only tiles that work, are the links to desktop applications, which open correctly on the desktop. The fault also affects all windows system apps. For example if I search on the start screen for "windows update", I can access "Windows update" as it just opens a window on the desktop, but if I click on "Windows update settings" nothing happens. The same is true with all windows system apps that open in the new start screen system.
I've uninstalled two Microsoft updates that were installed over the past three days, no change. I uninstalled AVAST, no change, so I reinstalled it! I tried restoring the system, but found that I had only one restore, and that was corrupted. Very strange. Without access to many windows system apps, the computer is really limited. The desktop seems to be working OK. I can't refresh the PC, as firstly it is a system app that runs from the start screen, and secondly because I upgraded from win 8 to 8.1 online, this can't be done anyway, as I don't have a disc. I'm really trying to avoid reinstalling windows 8!
(Pavilion dv6, i7 processor, 6GB ram, originally win7, then I upgraded to win 8 and now 8.1. I've been running 8.1 for some months without problems, just occasionally on start-up from sleep, I get "error in non-cached memory" BSOD, and the system restarts.)
I've had windows 8 for a bit, but since I've installed the OS not a single one of my windows apps will work. I've tried a lot of options and none fix it. I will open up a app ( windows store app or PC settings for example) and it will open and display the icon and blown up screen then immediately minimizes and will not allow me to maximize it. I'm so tired of it! I can't download any new apps or update my old ones let alone use any of them. I ran a basic trouble shoot through Microsoft and it came up at one point saying I need a Microsoft account. which is crazy because I've put in my CD key like 50 times and registered it when I put the OS on this computer . Windows 8.1

I got an Acer 8935G so there only exists one VGA driver for this laptop. I installed it a couple of days ago and I'm suspecting this to be the cause since it wasnt like this before I installed the driver.
But I hope this is not the cause since with this laptop model, I dont have any choice when it comes to display drivers.

why Microsoft pushed these Store Apps out and then screwed them up? I have some installed which work fine, but when trying to install others - they won't open. are being offered by Microsoft but there seems to be no solid explanation. This along with the real mess up on Update 1 for many users make me wonder who is in control of Windows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis happened after I uninstalled all my metro apps this morning, rebooted then reinstalled them. Chrome also updated in the meantime.
They're the only icons that are broke so clearly something has happened between now and then to stop icons displaying properly for new programs.
Is it worth rebuilding icon cache? Not sure the icons for metro are the same as filetype icons in Explorer though.
When I was on Windows 8 I could install an app from the store and it would automatically put a tile for it on the start screen. After upgrading to 8.1 it stopped doing that. Now after I install an app I have to search for it and right click and tell it to pin to the start. Is there any way to have a tile automatically put on the start screen after install with 8.1?

I'm using Windows 8 Home Premium 64 Bit.
My Disk Defragmenter that came with the system will not open. When I try to open it, a CMD windows appears for 1 second and disappears. I have tried opening it in all ways.
I have tried:
Safe Mode
Sfc /Scannow
Chkdsk
Anti Malware scans

Having used Windows 8 satisfactorially for a while now on a VM I'm trying to install it on a real PHYSICAL machine.
To save the hassle of burning DVD's I decided I would like to install from a USB drive however when trying to create a bootable USB stick using the usb tool from the tutorial it always fail with "Cannot copy the files".
I've tried on 3 different USB sticks from different manufacturers so it's almost outside the possibility that all 3 USB sticks are defective. I'm trying to run this on W7 X64.

I'd like to know if any of you guys have experienced this issue where when you try to open a metro app you get the splash screen for it and then just a few seconds later you're sent back to the start screen with no explanation whatsoever. It's doing my head in since I can't seem to find a fix - Google returns lots of posts about this issue coming from the win 8 beta, but none of the fixes I've seen seem to work.
It also doesn't happen with all apps. I can open the Music, Messaging or Games apps just fine, but if I try to open the metro Reader app or the Hulu/Netflix apps I downloaded from the store they just won't get pass this screen.
One of my favorite features of Windows Explorer was that it told me the free disk space in the status bar. Since Windows Vista, you also had the ability to see the free space on hard drives across the network.
Now in Windows 8 you can't even in the least see the free space on the status bar of your own pc, let alone those across the network, and for someone who's constantly moving files across my home network, it's becoming a bit of a hassle.
I don't think there's away to to restore this functionality (already installed the ClassicShell program) so absent of that, is there a free disk space monitoring tool recommended? I'm mainly looking for one that has a system tray function that can tell me the amount of free space I have left, either in percentage form, or megabyte form, or gigabyte form, whatever.
