Power User Menu (WIN-X) Not Working?
Nov 11, 2012When invoking the Power User Menu, no shortcut will work except the "Run" command. This has been this way since I upgraded my Win 7 to Win 8. The short cuts do exist in the appropriate $user$/Appdata/.../WinX subfolder, but the menu doesn't seem to connect to them..
Yes, I tried using the Power User Menu Editor suggested in the tutorials, but to no avail.
As another bit of info...When I upgraded from 7, I was using the program Start Menu X (paid version) as a Start Menu replacement. As I liked the Win 8 Start Screen from using the previews for many months, I uninstalled Start Menu X. My guess this may have affected the Power User Menu in some fundamental way, as I was not able to use said menu when a third party start menu replacement was in effect.
Power User Tasks Menu - Not Launching Task
Oct 30, 2012My Power User Tasks Menu is not totally functional. Only the "Run" task launches. None of the other tasks work from this menu. I'm running an account set as administrator, and have tried the separate Administrator account to no avail.

Gaming :: Stopping Power User Task Menu From Appearing
May 15, 2013I am having trouble with a few games that require a substantial amount of right-clicking during game play.
At some point, the mouse will be (in game) but hovering over the bottom left corner of the screen, at which point the Win-X menu launches and kicks me out of the game and back to desktop.
Is there anyway to forcibly disable this menu totally, or to make sure it doesn't activate during full screen games?

Sep 15, 2014I have recently installed 8.1 on my desktop with 3 local user accounts (no Microsoft accounts) and no user passwords, and Guest account Off. I have bypassed the lock screen but whenever the computer is switched on or a user signs out, the OS loads the last user instead of going to the user select screen. Something that all Windows OSs have done from go to Win 7. I can back arrow which does display the user select screen.
Or more importantly, any way to make it act like all previous Windows systems. I would not be fussed if this was a single user computer.
Windows 8.1 Setup - Display Turns Off / Power Switch Shuts System Down
Sep 15, 2014I have my Windows 8.1 setup so the display turns off in 1 minute.
I have the power options setup so that the power switch shuts the system down.
But it doesn't. If the screen is off and I press the power switch on my PC the screen comes back on. I then need to press the power switch a second time for the computer to power down.
Is there anyway to configure Windows 8.1 so that the power switch does not turn the display back on, but just immediately shuts the system down?

May 7, 2013i got a surface pro and i hooked it up to my dell u2311hm monitor. Now when its not hooked up, i like to have the display setting size to Medium - 125% or Large - 150% (default) but once i hook my mini display in, the dell u2311 looks like ass at Large. so i gotta bring it down to Small - 100%. For example the first one I created has a bunch of folders I put on the desktop recovered from my old computer, but when I log on with the other account they are not there. I also installed ms office on my computer with the first user- but it is not available to the other one.
Is there a way to link these 2 so I can still have different logins but access the same files?

Mar 3, 2013One of my favorite features of Windows Explorer was that it told me the free disk space in the status bar. Since Windows Vista, you also had the ability to see the free space on hard drives across the network.
Now in Windows 8 you can't even in the least see the free space on the status bar of your own pc, let alone those across the network, and for someone who's constantly moving files across my home network, it's becoming a bit of a hassle.
I don't think there's away to to restore this functionality (already installed the ClassicShell program) so absent of that, is there a free disk space monitoring tool recommended? I'm mainly looking for one that has a system tray function that can tell me the amount of free space I have left, either in percentage form, or megabyte form, or gigabyte form, whatever.

Jun 14, 2013When you launch skype from the startmenu it is a huge square, when i launch task manager from the startmenu it is launched to the desktop.
Could there be a way to make the task menu launch from the startmenu to be a big square like skype is "phone eddition"
This would be useful because when im in games and the game freezes, i can bring up the start menu like SUPER FAST and it is visible but when i launch the task manager it is behind the game no matter what, so im always pressing the key stroke of the first letter of the game and pressing delete to see if i closed the game or not.
Change Menu Background Color In Win 8.1? NOT Start Menu
Jun 22, 2014I actually have no problem with the Win 8.1 Start menu, but the colors of the regular desktop environment are killing me. Namely, the weird, off-off white of the menus. The High-Contrast White option under Personalization gives me the right color for the menu backgrounds but everything else about the theme screams windows 3.1, so I'd rather not resort to using that.
Is there maybe a registry tweak that I can use to change this one little color? I've tried a few things but nothing so far has worked.

Deleted Windows 8 User Accounts - Other User In Password Screen?
Jul 13, 2014So, I wanted to download a game from the windows store and had to create a Live/microsoft account. After doning so win 8 made that account the account that I use to sigh-in to windows. Didn't wanted that so I went to user managment and deleted the account from thare. The problem is that I also accidenly deleted my windows user account as well.
After I restarted, I got to the password screen and my windows user was gone, just "other user". I tryed to enter the windows user name and password but nothing. the screen also showed the microsoft acount name but here also the password dident work (probably because a deleted them both from the system...)

Some time in the past week or so, the bar at the bottom of the page when I am in a browser session, launched from the desktop, no longer appears. It's the one that usually shows the Connection, Safe to Eject, my Norton status, Volume icons, date/time, etc. I use automatic Windows updates, so I'm kind of assuming it was something there that did it...but don't know for sure.
All I want to know is How Do I Get It Back? I especially need that volume control icon, so I can mute all the ads when I open a news video on Yahoo, Bing, or MSN.
This bar shows just fine when I'm looking at the Desktop screen, just not in the browsers.
