My laptop Vaio is running windows 8.1 single language and I want to renew install it. But recovery in lap is windows 8 with i just want install drive C and keep my files on other drive.
I want to know how to upgrade Windows 8 single language to Windows 8 Professional, what is the way? Should I use third party program or not? I don't know.
I only have a Windows 8 Single Language key purchased. They mostly sell that version in my country. But I need to perform a clean install of Windows 8.1. How can I do this? How to get the ISO? I can't install 8.1 PRO ISO with a generic key and they use the SL key to activate right?
I maked Windows 8.0 Single Language EN-US ISOs (x86 and x64) from RU-RU ISOs (I removed Russian and added English).
When I try to install it in VMware Workstation (I tried x86, then I tried x64), on a half installation on both installations it says error: Windows could not see the offline locale information. Error code: 0x80000001.

Can a group of computers (20-25 Units), all running Windows 8 Single Language, share files, printers and an internet connection via a LAN? I need to make sure that the OS I will be getting with my new machines will be able to do this. The cheapest license I could get for this is the Windows 8 SL? Is if up for the job? I also have 2 switches, a router and my internet source is from a cable modem.
I've got a problem with Windows 8.1 Single Language Edition 64-bit (English/Russian/Ukrainian).
When Windows 8 updated to 8.1 last year through the Store, I lost the ability to Restore and Refresh (a feature I had used several times previously).
Since then I have been using the same installation of 8.1, and it has finally become too laggy and bloated and I need desperately to Restore (files are all backed up and removed from computer, ready for Restore).
Things I have tried already:
- Found my Product Key using a keyfind program. My version of 8.1 came preintalled on the laptop, no DVD case, or e-mails with Key. - Made a recovery USB Flash Drive (my laptop doesn't have a DVD drive). Recovery drive works when I boot from BIOS, but says it is invalid when I try to Restore. - Tried to download an official ISO file from Microsoft, but the site says my Product Key is invalid (its not invalid). - Tried using the Enterprise Trial ISO to Restore, and am now stuck with an expired trial copy of Enterprise.
I still have the Recovery Partition, and didn't delete it when I made the Recovery USB.
My computer is an ASUS Zenbook prime UX31A. All I want is to Restore. Even if its back to Win 8. I do not understand why all options seem to be broken since the update to 8.1. It seems intentional.
I want to Restore legitimately, and use the product I bought legitimately. But if this continues I may have to seek "alternatives".
while i am trying to update my windows 8 single language from the windows store after downloading all the important updates then also it provide this kind of error. here by i am adding the screenshot of the error message. i have also disable antiviruss and firewall
I was having some problems with my dual monitor setup and while messing around with the settings I am afraid I messed it up a lot worse than my previous problems were. To keep it short, one of my monitors was not popping up (it ended up being the cable), but when I was in the settings I clicked the monitor to pick a "unknown device" as it was never detected. Now, when my computer boots up the main screen is the "unknown device" and the secondary screen is one of my two monitors. Because of this my screen only launches up as a blank gray screen. Typically one of my screens show this, while the primary one gives me the option to put in my password to login. Because this monitor which is my main monitor does not exist, I cannot get to my login screen. I know I am still on dual monitors because it will let me run the cursor off the screen as it does when I am using my monitors.
Basically, I want to boot up not on extended and only on my monitor (I tried the Win+P but it doesn't work on the gray screen). I also tried booting up in safe mode, but was unable to access it with Shift F8. Any simple solution to this before I have to do a reinstall of Windows 8.
I just bought this Sony VAIO Fit 15a and i play fps games like League of Legends, Dota2 and COD4:MW and at the first ten or so minutes i play them smoothly but after that the fps will be halved and it seems like its lagging. I tried to play them all in lowest settings but the problem still persists.

I have a powerful dedicated work machine that I want to also use as a play machine.
The idea: Have two separate installations of Windows 8.1 on two separate disks, select which disc to boot to at startup (preferably by dual boot menu, BIOS as a last resort).
I want to know if it's possible to isolate the two installations from one another. The only way I can think to do this is to disable the hard disks from within each independent OS.
For example:
If the "work side" of the computer uses 1x256GB SSD for Boot and 1x1TB SSD for data, and the "play side" has 1x512GB SSD, then from the "work side" OS I could disable the SSD in device manager for the 512GB SSD, and from the "play side" I could disable the 256GB & 1TB SSD's. In theory could I do this? Would that mean that essentially the data on either side would be completely invulnerable from the other side?
I have been trying to change my language all day but I cant seem to execute the command "dism /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:lp.cab" in my command prompt. I get the above error. I have downloaded the language pack and put it in my root C drive and renamed it ip.cab
Most of the game i've installed are not compatible with my windows 8 single language. Of course my laptop's requirements are enough for the game but the problem lies within the windows 8. Are there any solutions to this matter ?
This pops up sometimes on the desktop after I power on
Your PC RAN into a problem: C:WindowsMinidump-40214-46000-01.dmp C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP C:UsersUserAppDataLocalTempWER-104406-0.sysdata.xml
It asked me to send details to windows and I sent. I don't know what's the problem and these are the only other problems I experienced: 1)Slower cold booting 2)It takes a longer time for the lights to off after shutting down. We can only turn the switch off after the lights off
Recent PC activities: 1) Defragmentation for OS(C) and Data(D) 2) Installed and played The Sims 3 (usage is around 9GB) with Mods 3) OS(C) Disk Cleanup deleted items: Downloaded Program files, Temporary Internet files and Temporary files (not sure if I deleted System Error Memory Dump Files & System Error Minidump Files or not)
I am using Windows 8. Is there a way that I can make a shortcut for Chrome that will open multiple URL's at once? I know how to make one that will open a single URL, but is there a way to open several? For example, can I make a shortcut on my desktop that will open google.com, facebook.com and twitter.com all at once.
I am trying to find a way for the apps to open on my second display while keeping the MUI/metro up on the first(main) display. For example watch hulu/abc/media center app on my big screen while playing around in the MUI/metro ....
So a few moments ago I had my first BSOD (since I changed my failing HDD with an SSD). It happened when I opened the lid and was about to enter my password/PIN @Windows 8 lockscreen. I usually press enter on the numpad to bring up the password/PIN prompt screen and when I did that I got a BSOD saying "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".
I had Google Chrome running in the background with about 3 tabs (not running any demanding sites). I had IOGraph running in the background (it detects mouse movements and stops and puts it on an image file to make it look nice, again nothing too demanding).
I updated my GPU and Bluetooth drivers about 2-3hrs before it happened. They were the latest Intel HD4000 and Bluetooth (integrated in Intel Centrino Advanced-N6325) from Intel's site. All of this was after restarting post-driver updates.I have never had a BSOD, at least for the last 6-7 months (when my HDD failed). S.M.A.R.T. data for my SSD has not changed and shows no abnormalities.
I have a folder that contains a bunch of files that contain craft shows. If I want to search for a file that contains a specific show I'll open the folder then in the search field in the top right corner I'll type in "Christmas Carousel Craft Show". The problem is that every single file containing the word "christmas" or the word "carousel" or the word "craft" or the word "show" pops up! I just want to find the file with the phrase "Christmas Carousel Craft Show".
When I change the view option of a folder; IE List to Details etc; it changes for all the folders. I'd like to be able to just change the view for that single folder. It's really annoying having to reset the view with every new folder I decide to open.
So does this means the ISO I have is tampered with? I don't feel safe installing Windows 8 from the ISO. I am now downloading a supposedly untouched russian ISO but where to download the English Language pack and how to replace it in the ISO while still keeping it a bootable ISO?
Is there any way to link directories on several DIFFERENT HDD's to the SAME top directory / library.
Trying a Multi-media server with video files on HDD1, HDD2, HDD3.
What I want is to say create a top level directory videos, then under that directories video1, video2 and video3,so my application which says Multi-media folder -- I could point to directory videos -- then I'd get the 3 folders as part of the top level directory.
(Using Spanned disks can work but I'd rather not go down that route these days as the 3 disks I want to use are EXTERNAL HDD's and spanned disks need ALL the drives to be available and if there's any error you lose THE LOT. !!! )
With Linux it's easy -- just create 4 directories in your /home folder say /mnt/videos as top level, then in this directory create 3 sub directories /mnt/videos1, /mnt/videos2, mnt/videos 3
then mount the devices /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2, /devsdb3 in /mnt/videos1, mnt/videos2, mnt/videos3
then browsing your home directory with mnt/videos you'll see all the data files in the 3 directories from all 3 HDD's -- no matter what their size, -- you only need a FEW BYTES too in your home directory !!. You don't actually copy or move any data from the HDD's to these directories. Things like search are great too since you point the search at the top level directory and the system will scan all the sub directories (so all 3 disks) too.
A lot of multi-media type programs seem only to handle ONE top level folder so when the HDD is full you are stuffed -- maybe limitations of the windows file system. I've seen somewhere that you can use some type of links if you have multiple devices but can't find it.
How does a NAS device handle multiple HDD's within the server.
The old library feature was half way there but in Windows 8.1 that feature seems to have GONE.
I have just rebuilt my PC and decided to make the jump from Windows XP to Windows 8. The jump has not been smooth, but it looks like I have ironed out my biggest problem (incorrect installation due to not creating a system partition therefore Windows 8 = no DVD, no boot; rookie error).
Now I am stuck with an issue - windows detects my only screen as more than one. Sometimes it thinks I have two, more often it thinks I have 3 or 4. Installing the current nVidia drivers did not work.
What I have at the moment is 2 generic non-PnP monitors and 2 generic PnP monitors detected, according to device manager. nVidia control panel calls them Dell SX2210, VGA display, (i can't recall the 3rd one, I'm on my laptop now), and TV. Windows display setup calls two of the SX2210, and the other two are either generic non-PnP or PnP monitors. In nVidia control panel it looks as though I have a clone setup (2 screens enabled) with the Dell SX2210 and the VGA display. In windows display setup it looks as though I have a clone setup (2 screens enabled) with Dell SX2210 and generic monitor.
I have repeatedly unchecked the secondary monitors in both nVidia control panel and windows display setup, leaving me with what should be a single monitor arrangement and 3 disabled monitors. This works until I restart my computer, which then reverts back to what it was before. This is OK as a workaround most of the time, but sometimes when I boot up the computer it detects the wrong screen as the primary and I get a monitor which goes to power save mode. The solution to this is Win Key + P and change the display selection while blind, which works now I know how. Sometimes my screen will refresh (installing programs or drivers) and I get the same result. Detect displays also results in no signal to my monitor.
Currently using DVI from the graphics card to DVI on the monitor.
System specs:
CPU: Intel 3570K (stock clock) MB: ASRock Extreme4 Z77 RAM: 4 x 4GB 2133 GSkill VIDEO: Gigabyte GTX260 OC MONITOR: Dell SX2210 @ 1920 x 1080 OS: Windows 8 64bit
*Yes I know the 260 is an older card, it has come from my old system for economics reasons (to be upgraded later), but it was working perfect on that machine.
i am using an inspiron 14 with windows 8 single language (US English).
i recently downloaded a chinese music player from www.duomi.com and windows 8 is only displaying part of the chinese wordings in the software correctly, the rest are like alien characters.
I have been struggling to insert a photo as part of a signature and was trying out various options when I found I could no longer try different pictures because the Single Photo option was suddenly missing from the top menu.
The Photo Album option still exists but where has the Single Photo option gone?
I need this because I insert a lot of photos in my emails.....
