So my trusty old 40 GB Maxtor HDD finally died, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a 250 GB Western Digital Caviar SE 16 (SATA II). Windows will boot off of the DVD, load the setup, ask me if I want to perform an install or a repair, and then it asks if I want to upgrade or do a "custom" setup. I choose custom since it's a clean drive, but then it shows me a blank list of drives with the option to load a driver. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2H, so I went to Gigabyte's website and downloaded the drivers and put them on a USB thumb drive. I spent hours trying to load different drivers to no avail. I tried the CD that came with the motherboard; no dice. I tried 32 and 64 bit installations; neither worked.
But you know what did work? My 180-day trial copy of Windows Server 2003. It detected that hard drive like Western Digital made it just for 2003.
My hardrive from my old laptop is in an external hard drive because i want to get the pics and info of it onto my new laptop, i have plugged the enclosure in to the lap[top with both USB's but only one red loight is on the external hard drive and it is not in my computer, it bleeps on my laptop when it is plkugged in thoy please help me get my docs bakc

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just added a new hard drive to replace the old one that is apparently corrupted. And I'm not sure what I did wrong. I was told to unplug the power supply and the old hd. Add the new one, and power it back up with the Windows 7 installation dvd. Did that and in trying to change the order in witch it boots to cd-rom, it shows sata hd not present? I don't know why, I replaced the cords in the right place. Do I need to configure it, if so how?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo yesterday I was online and uploaded a pic to Twitpic. Everything froze up so after a bit I decided to restart. When it restarted it went right into system repair. I let that run ALL NIGHT LONG. In the morning, it asked if I wanted to do a system restore and I said yes. But it said I had no restore points. I knew that wasn't right so I ran through the memory check option and then the hard drive check and was told memory was fine but now I don't have a hard drive found or an operating system. Any clue what has happened or how to restore everything?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been doing some searches using the search box that comes up when you press the colorful button on the bottom left. It finds nothing. I can have folders and WORD documents on my desktop, and it always comes up now with nothing found. If I create a test Folder, or WORD document, put on the Desktop, it won't find them. Always used to work fine. Only difference now is that I put in a new HD after the old one failed. Everything else seems to work fine.

I have tried it in different ports but with the same result. I've checked with Windows Compatability and the exact model is listed there as being compatible. I've been to the manufacturer's website but there are no drivers available.I have the same problem with any USB device I plug into any port. I have tried a complete Windows re-install from a different CD but it made no difference.The only USB devices that work are the keyboard and mouse.I have given the LaCie HD as an example because I am hoping that if I can get a specific device to work, I may be able to solve the problem with others.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI already have Windows 7 installed on my laptop, and now I am trying to fix a laptop in my house that has had a virus on it for a while that corrupted XP (about 8 months it has had it).
then when running a setup for XP to try and fix it it corrupted itself and then got permanently stuck on a setup. so now I started looking at it and I saw that there was an option for it to revert to the way it was when it had working settings.
so I am uninstalling everything and deleting everything
but I want to format it completely (so there will be NOTHING left)
so can I do a full format while using the Windows 7 Ultimate disc?
please don't say to do a quick format since I don't want to do that, I have been reading some of the posts in the forums and people say to use a quick format and they don't say if you can do a Full format.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a WD Scorpio Black 320GB 2.5" HDD for my Gateway MX6920 notebook. I wanted to upgrade to this larger, faster HDD and replaced it into my notebook and attempted to install Windows 7. During setup it stopped and gave the error 0xc00000e9 for "unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive ......".
I tried installing Windows XP and it gets to a blue screen to choose a Repair of Windows or a fresh install. Choosing either one returns a blue screen that says system can not find a Hard disk connected.
I put this drive into an enclosure and formatted it in another computer. Also it is recognized in BIOS. I'm running BIOS version 77.08 if relevant.
I have raid 5 setup, on a ASUS P5K WS motherboard using matrix storage manager. Just copied everything on to it, now a hard drive has failed. I got new hard drive but its seen as none Raid and raid showing as failure ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my laptop, it shows the HP logo, begins to boot and is almost instantly interrupted by a white screen that scrolls down from the top. It reboots right after the white screen.I am able at the HP logo screen able to navigate to System Restore and that is where I run into my next problem.When the System Restore window opens for confirmation it shows that "Local Disk (C) (System)" status: "Ready to restore" and the check-box next to it is checked.The next line has a empty check-box for "Local Disk (C)" with the status: "The drive cannot be found." I can also successfully boot into Safe Mode with Networking. I can access all my files. Which leads me to believe that it is a hardware problem. Possibly the motherboard or graphics card.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a dual boot with win7 and ubuntu. I want to install win7 first and then the other os. So, using Gparted, if I create a partition, formatted or not, win7 setup will not recognize my hdd and i get the above error message. "No device drivers found". If I set my hdd space as unallocated, it gets recognized, but setup tells me it's unable to install windows into any of the drives. No further information is delivered.
The thing is I can easily install ubuntu and set it up. So there's nothing wrong with my hdd. Why would windows not recognize it and request for the drivers? I went to the Hitachi website, but they tell me there are no drivers available, since all OSs already have that information. I wonder why I'm having such a hard time installing win7. Ubuntu clearly works and installs smoothly and no errors occur.

I have an ASUS Motherboard M4A87TD EVO, got two new hard drives, and changed the BIOS settings to a RAID configuration. After exiting BIOS, I loaded the WIN 7 (64 bit) installation disc, got thru the first few prompts of installation, and the pop up error menu shows up. "No signed Driver Found, Please insert CD/DVD/ Floppy", and my RAID configuration does not appear in the box as a hard drive for Windows to be installed into.
After researching on the web and contacting ASUS, I still don't understand. From what I can gather, it is a driver that will make THE INSTALLATION PROCESS RECOGNIZE MY RAID configuration. Apparently, it must be downloaded onto a thumbdrive and installed "during" the Windows installation. Is it specific to this type of installation, or manufacturer specific? Asus or Windows? A third party??
i've got 2 extra 1TB Seagate drive:[URL]I use these to make backups of my 3 hard drives (1 x SSD, 1 hybrid, and 1 SATA). I brought this new machine back in April, and it was working fine up until then. However, after trying to install some software (which didn't wanna install in the end anyway, due to it being rubbish!), I can now no longer see these drives on my PC The weird part too - is that my Win7 laptop has exactly the same issue ... but my brothers Vista laptop, and Win7 PC see them just fine!To start with I was thinking the drive had gone faulty (as it wasn't working on both my machines), but after testing it on my brothers stuff it prooved they are both working fine The USB's I'm using to connect it to are fine (They work for USB sticks and other USB kit) ... so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what it could be? The even weirder thing - is that my brothers 500gb external drive (can't remember what make that was, but its not Seagate) works just fine!Its driving me up the wall as I can't do my daily backups (I'm a software developer, so having a current backup of my PC incase of a fatal mess up with my system is vital for me)

I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. I was ok with the upgrade at first (from Windows Vista Ultimate) but along with the disk space it is taking up from windows.old, I want a clean copy. When I go in the setup, click install, and go to the Custom Install tab, no hard drives or partitions show up. I have tried installing drivers from the Western Digital site, to no avail.The ultimate question I am trying to get answered is how do I get a my hard drives to show up on the setup and finally get to my destination of having one partition, with my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on it? I tried to load the drivers at the installation and apparently they were not the correct ones, although the most recent ones I could find were for WinXP.I am getting frustrated with Windows 7! I also have a problem where I am not sure If my video card is working properly or not, but that is another issue that I have posted on that the advice I received did not work..

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a i7 2600K system with a solid state disk as the boot drive, and an older (c2008) Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB drive as the data drive for programs (that I deem as not worthy of the quick load times). The hard drive has given me some errors over time, and I bought a hard disk to replace it (a Hitachi 1TB). The issue I'm having is that the fact that Windows 7 puts a small (100MB) partition on the F3, and for some reason, even though I'm running Acronis 2012, it doesn't seem to be able to clone the F3 over to the Hitachi. I've also tried Drive XML, and for my 2 hour wait, I only managed to acquire a boot error. Thankfully, I've not done anything rash to destroy the data on the F3, but given the fact that I've seen corrupted files in Steam from that drive, I'm not will to trust it long term with my data. I really need to get the data onto that Hitachi, though... Anyone have any advice for upgrading the HDD in a SSD/HDD system? I don't really feel like it should be so hard, especially if I've bought Acronis True Image, but maybe they haven't designed their product to handle this scenario quite yet?

My research tells me SATA drives don't have drivers. I've changed BIOS SATA drivers from "Enhanced" to "Compatible" with no effect.
Don't know what to try next.
