I have a asus 1201n eee pc it was working with no problems fast stable nothing wrong one day 3 weeks ago windows updates came out downloaded and installed ever since then a adapter plugged in says charging but isn't. Already replaced battery and charger. Us ut windows? Or the computer?
View 5 RepliesWe have an ASUS K52Jr purchased in April last year. At the start of this year the hard drive packed it in while I was trying to download something on ITunes and it would not start up again. We were moving and so didn't get around to taking it in for a couple of months. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we went it in to ASUS and the hard drive was replaced under warranty (2-year warranty).The laptop is working fine now on AC power but the battery will not charge. I've tried shutting it down, taking the battery out, restarting it and putting the battery in while it's on, but no dice. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the power management driver from "Device Manager". It was saying "plugged in, charging" on the battery icon but the "power bar" on the icon would stop moving within a few seconds of putting the battery back in and the power level would stay at 0%. Yesterday it started saying "plugged in, not charging".Is this because the battery was left in the laptop while it wasn't working? Is it just coincidental that the problem started after the hard drive was replaced?

The crazy thing is, at every startup from Windows the battery icon runs the charge bar 5 times, and than it stops. At pointer it says: 0% available ( on main supply, battery is being charged) However, this does never change. Nomatter how long it charges. BatteryBar does the same thing:

I have an acer laptop and it has been working great for the past year but now my battery won't charge to 100%. This only happened recently and my laptop is plugged in for awhile but it'll only read to 80%, 2 weeks later; 53% and now its only 28%. The thing is.. my laptop IS charged. when i unplug it, I get my usually lifespan of the battery before i have to plug it in again to recharge and it only charges to x% again. I've tried "draining" my battery and letting it charge again but it won't charge to 100%. Is there anything I can do to make my laptop read my battery correctly again.
*I should add its an Acer Aspire with a 6-cell Li-ion battery and this is the only problem I've had thus far with my laptop
No it's not old, no it wasnt used more than 6 times and i dont keep it in the laptop all the time. I always leave the batter out of the laptop when it isnt being used. When it is out of the laptop it is fully charged. But as of recently it's been telling me that it only charges to 97%, the laptop is only 2 months old.

So most of the time I have to keep the charger connected. To be honest, I don't find it safe to connect the charger all the time as the battery may get further damaged due to over-charging.
My question is that is there any software which would stop my charger from charging the battery till say around 30% and when the battery drains to 30%, the charging resumes automatically. When completed (reaches 100%), it stops charging again (but the charger is still connected) and then waits for the battery to drain to 30% and restarts the process.
why my battery is always showing the same charge though the has decreased or increased?

This 2nd cord has worked fine for about a year. Thought it might be the plug socket but then everything started working fine after we took the battery out & bottom off the netbook & put it back together. The only minor issue I have experienced is that the small magnifying glass that should come up on the second entry when searching in start menu (the one that says 'see more results' after the initial search in the 'search programs' box) is a blank box with no icon. Small change... but rather than rebuild all icons for this small issue is there another way around it? She can live with it... but I would like the magnifying glass there.

I have also heard reports that you can't activate Home Basic in the US. Before someone says to slap XP on it and let it go...her daughter despises XP and loves Windows 7 which led my boss to get me to attempt to install 7 on it. I think the biggest limiting factor here is HD space but I think Home Basic could fit on it..

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy netbook froze on friday night. Try to restart, but was stuck at grey screen. It has asus logo and eee pc written. The options f2 to run setup and tab to display bios post yields nothing. In other words, pressing either button doesn't work. I have removed the battery, pressed the power button without the power cord, put everything back in, tapping f2. So far, no progress. Few times, i try pressing f2 similtaneously as i hit the power button, i got american megatrends screens. Still, none go further. I have this netbook for a little over a year. The warranty just expired a month ago. It is running window 7 starter already installed when i got it at bestbuy. I had contacted asus support, and tried some i mentioned above. I prefer to do this by myself.

On her old laptop, (now defunct) running XP, with built-in modem, this was no problem; she simply right-clicked the taskbar and chose "disconnect". Her new laptop, running Windows 7, has no modem, so I got a USB one for her - it connects effortlessly, but we can find no way of disconnecting it and carrying on working offline, except by physically unplugging it, which seems a bit inelegant if nothing else.

I did everything you were supposed to, charged it up, discharged it, charged it again, etc.For some reason, i can just be playing or doing things on my laptop, and it'll randomly just lose ALL power. For example, i was playing a video game the other day and was at roughly 65% battery, and suddenly the computer just instantly died. And i don't know if any of you have seen an asus, but there is a little light on the panel with the power button for like a "quick start", and that light is ALWAYS on. but when the laptop died it wasn't. Which i take it means absolutely no power was going to the laptop.

I downloaded the latest drivers and installed them, and I plug it in and it says installing device and it installs. It starts charging, but the Center button just keeps blinking, and it is showing up under device manager.
My acer extensa 4230-2818 won't hold a charge. I can only operate when plugged into the outlet. I would hate to purchase a new battery ($40) if it's may be something else.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure this is the right forum for this question, but then again: lots of people seem to have comparable problems, so here goes:As my 3-year old netbook was getting very slow, I decided to get rid of all the junk at once by completely reinstalling the OS (Win7 starter). Now, there is a very easy way to this with the Recovery Manager (as described in the support papers on the HP site), but that didn't work for me. This may wll be due to a faulty HD; I've no way of testing it as my C: drive is now reformatted. So what next?I was not completely unprepared; earlier I made:- a USB-stick with the 'HP USB Recovery Flash Disk Utility' (HP45774). The stick does contain, I think, all or almost all of the contents of the recovery partition. (NB: you need a 16Gb stick and this is a trick you can do only once.
- a recovery CD on an external CD drive, although without a 'disk-image' as by then the system had grown much too bloated already. (should have done that straight away after I'd bought it, although I'm a bit at a loss as to what storage medium would be used).These two means should surely be enough to restore the thing to factory settings? However:- The memory stick should be bootable, but isn't.- Booting from CD works, but the Recovery Manager can't seem to access the diskimage on the usb-stick. (Although, when I call up a command prompt, one of the other options, it is readily available.)So I don't really know what to do now. I'm thinking of two options:1. In one forum thread it was said that the stick thus made 'often' or even 'usually' isn't bootable, as it should be. The advice was to make it bootable, using EasyBCD. That's easier said then done, I found; no luck so far.
The stick does contain a boot directory, bootmgr etc.; it clearly is supposed to be bootable.)2. Following the advice in other threads, I downloaded the whole 1.7Gb WAIK, just to get hold of imagex.exe, which i then put on the memory stick. As the bootable 'recovery CD' does provide a command prompt, I could, supposedly, 'apply' the image base.wim, which is also on the stick, to 'drive D:' (under these circumstances, that's the main partition). But as there's lots of other stuff on the stick (like FactoryUpdates), I'm afraid it will be a lot of hassle installing computer-specific drivers and stuff.
I'm having problems with my Toshiba Netbook with Windows 7 pre installed in it. I was surfing the net and all of a sudden, Antimalware Doctor popped up. I tried to close it and it went away for a while, but then it had restarted my computer by force and now it won't even boot up.
