Win 7 Didn't Include An Email Client
Dec 3, 2009
Have installed W7 on a new computer - horror struck to find it didn't include an email client. I know I can use lots of other clients but I want to keep my email address, my folders full of emails, my contacts, and my sanity. Do I have to switch on my XP machine every time I want to get my emails???

I am using a new ivybrdige computer running windows 7 and i have found a problem. I tried to respond to a "contact us" link on the manufacturers website and the follwing message appeared:-"could not perform this operation because default mail client is not properly installed". I understand that the 64bit Internet Explorer cannot be set as the default browser.I have downloaded windows live mail however I cannot set this as my default e-mail client. I have accessed the Start/set program access and computer default/ custom/ and it simply says " use current e-mail program there is no option to select windows live mail as the default. I purchased an HP Pavillion All-In-One with Window 7 pre-installed on my computer. I successfully downloaded windows live mail. However when I try to send e-mail through my Verizon with msn mail account, an error message appears stating "email client not properly installed". If anybody has any suggestions, directions or help it would be greatly appreciated.

In XP I made my webmail account the default email client -- so that when I clicked on any sort of "email us here" llnk on a website it would take my to my webmail automatically. I want to do that in Windows 7 also but I can't find where to do it. In the "Set default programs" part of the Control Panel it only gives me one choice: "Use my current email program". I don't have any resident email client.

This is a brand new machine with a brand new install of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1. I'm having a problem with the inheritable permissions. In the Advanced Security Settings for one of my games, I'm trying to Include Inheritable Permissions From This Objects Parent. The check box has a check in it and it is grayed out but under Inherited From, is shows <not inherited>.
I click on Change Permissions, the Include Inheritable Permissions isn't grayed out and has a check in the box but when I click on Apply, it doesn't change the inheritable permissions. It's probably something I'm not savvy enough to catch but I think I'm at the limit of my knowledge with this. It shows me as Owner with all permissions but still having a problem getting it to start without a pop up asking if I want to let it run.

Windows 7 Home Premium: I want my PC to sleep after 20 minutes, so I can leave it on all night and come back in the morning and start using it right away. ( I have a password, so no one could steal it or anything, and start using it )
I have a screen saver setup to come on after 5 minutes, and sleep mode after 20.
I have it on a APC UPS set with their software, to silent, so if the power goes out overnight ( very rare and usually short ) it won't beep and wake me up. Besides, if it's asleep, it could literally go for days without power line power.
My problem is not remembering sometimes, because I come in half asleep when I wake up, and see a black screen, then reach over and hit the UPS button, not realizing I'm turning it OFF instead of ON!
But is there a way to set Windows up so that it DOES go to sleep after 20 minutes, but some kind of minimal screen saver keeps going on the screen, so I KNOW it's in sleep mode and not off?
I use the Mystify screen saver anyway, which is pretty minimal, so if that could be kept on while the Hard Drive and everything else that uses power and ages the electronics sleeps, that would be great.

For some reason, I cannot get the photo screen saver to include sub directories. I select either my pictures folder, or my pictures library, and in both cases, it only seems to poll those pictures in the root of pictures, as well as sample pictures.. None of the other folders in the pictures folder get polled... Any suggestions?
Also.. for some reason, the screen saver does not start when it should. I can preview it from the screen saver configuration screen, but it doesn't start on it's own after the allotted time....

does the Ultimate version of Win7 include both installations x86 and x64?Second question, I usually format my computer pretty often, and I want to save some dough and just get the Upgrade version of Win7 Ultimate. I can use the upgrade over and over again right? Like, if I format my hard drive a bunch of times, as long as that copy of Win7 isn't being used by another machine, I can continue to install it and activate it right? Also, is there any difference between an actual retail copy, and the upgrade?
