Why Two "open/save" Dialogs
Jun 5, 2009i've seen 2 open/save dialog boxes in Windows 7: the first one is very useful. the second one is not.
why are there two? can i make the second one go away? it reminds me of XP, and it makes my head ache

Aug 19, 2009Whenever (about 50% of the time) I use a program that'll eventually pop up a SAVE/OPEN dialog box (file explorer?). This could be ADOBE, or IE8 when I want to save a picture, or anything that'll prompt me to open a file or save a file, whenever the file explorer comes up it'll start to lag, then hang and then not respond and I have to close and restart.
Is it a windows explorer or file explorer problem? It happens on several of the computers/laptops I have the RC installed on.

Basically nothing happens, the dialog never opens an in my mail is not possible to upload files.. nothing, the common dialog to handle files never opens. I tried to type sfc/scannow in DOS mode (cmd). But didnt work because it said that I must be the administrator but the problem is that I am the administrator (I am the only user and register as admin).

Mar 9, 2011I have Windows 7 64bit and downloaded some updates today and Windows 7 SP3. Since then I can't open the "My Documents" folder I had on my Desktop. I don't get any messages. It just won't open. Also on my taskbar I have a shortcut that shows my Libraries. I can access the Music and Video Libraries when this opens. But not the Documents or Photos one's. I get a click sound, but they won't open. I also can't save any picture project am I am working on in the photo's library. It just says I can't save there.

Dec 7, 2011Okay, have managed to tweak *most* of what I dislike about Windows 7,diabled libraries and favorites, turned off stupid giant icons and got Explorer view back to the Details/ Date Descending that I've been using since Win3.1 days. Fixed taskbar, fixed the theme, got away from all the web styled view as link nonsense, but.I cannot get the Open/Save dialog that appears whenever you use, well, open or save in most any program, especially legacy or XP-based programs (for instance, Irfanview, VirtualDub,etc)to remain consistent folder to folder.Windows 7 seems to insist, rather lamely, that this be manually set with multitudinal clicking for each and every folder. Especially if differs from the default Explorer view (i.e. Details/Descending in Explorer, but want List/Descending in dialogs)Went thru a long process that involved customizing almost every folder I have to be "general items" instead of whatever the stupid folder contents discovery decided it would be, and then set general items to be viewed a certain way in dialogs via registry edits. But Windows 7 unilaterally decided to forget most of these changes after a short time.I also killed libraries entirely around then so that might've been it.Anyhow, is there anyway to have Windows7 actually respect global folder view settings? The application was unable to open the Windows Live Mail message store. Windows Live mail was unable to locate the message database. Same is true for all the Libary folders under Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos. I can only expand the first folder level.

Aug 6, 2010I changed via the dialog the TEXT SIZE via the screen resolution in the control panel to CUSTOM SIZE.With one of the newer "Cinema" or Very Wide screen (1680 X 900) displays after I'd increased the text size to over 160 % I didn't get the possibility to SAVE any documents any more via the SAVE AS button. Jan 23, 2012I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.

Take for example you have placed the recycle bin folder on top-left corner of the desktop which was earlier placed on the bottom-right corner. Then after restarting you would get the recycle bin folder again on the bottom right corner. But if you save something in the disk like a document in Documents folder, then it will still be there at the disk even after restart.

Feb 26, 2012I have a fairly new HP Desktop PC. I'm running Windows 7 Home 64-bit SP1. Yesterday I noticed that iTunes won't open when I double-click on the shortcut icon on my desktop. I restarted my computer, same issue. I restarted in Safe Mode, same issueI did notuninstall/reinstall because I also can't open my Spybot-SD. Same thing happens. The process is listed in Task Manager, but the programs just don't open. I have not trieduninstalling/reinstalling the programs because I tried doing a System Restore back to early February. The System Restore was successful but the problem persists. Also, Windows Media Player opens, but it opens weird, wherein it freezes on a white square for a few minutes before finally loading. Also, my DVD burning software, DVD Flick, opens but first it freezes on a yellow square.
It's hard to Google this problem because of all the programs involved, and I'm sure there are more programs that won't open that I'm just not aware of yet. I didn't do anything that I can think of that could've caused the problem (and if I had, the system restore would've fixed it). So I scanned my PC for viruses with Symantec and I also scanned for malware with Microsoft Security Essentials and both scans came up clean. Not being able to use iTunes presents a problem because I can't update my phone or make changes to my phone at all.
'Open With' Every Time Try To Open A Program?
Jun 2, 2011My girlfriend recently lent me her laptop (Windows 7 32bit) it was still using IE so when I go to install chrome the built in 'security program' (Windows 7 internet security 2011 or something like that) tells me that chrome is a threat and wont let me use it.. Now after finding out that Windows 7 internet security 2011 is a joke and just wants my money I run spybot search and destroy, it finds plenty of viruses and such like which are all removed.Now I have the strange problem...When I try to run any program or file the 'open this file with' window comes up. With some programs I can browse the program files and locate the program, select open with (I can't select 'always use the selected program') and away we go, but with others it simply doesn't open or will open the program in the background (unusable) and give me the 'open with' window again.. I have tried putting the Malwarebytes installer on USB but the laptop still gives me the 'open with' window when I try to install that
