Aug 6, 2011I had a "windows explorer has stopped working" the other day. Everything seems to work fine but I thought it might be a good idea to try and scan the system to make sure all is well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I ran msinfo32, and I was browsing through it to see if it could give me any interesting information (stuff like drivers I still needed to install, getting the USB ports to actually use 2.0 like they're supposed to but have never done under XP/Ubuntu/7). And came up with the following surprising pic - there's quite a few entries through the list, but this is the part with the most wtfs-per-screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I am working remotely on a computer trying to remove the System Scan virus. Now I have followed all steps, and removed countless viruses from safe mode using both super-antispyware and malwarebytes. I followed all instructions given in the removal guide on this site, including using rKill and the tdsskiller. I seem to remove the virus sucessfully, but as soon as I restart in normal mode from my users account, the virus is right back. Is there a known variation of this virus that reinstalls itself? Are there any other recommendations

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to do the equivalent of a system file check on a BIOS? I just installed a BIOS update on my friend's new (Win7, 64bit) Compaq CQ57, and it occurred to me that checking it - maybe running a checksum on it? - would be a good idea. I'm going to install an Ubuntu partition on this machine. I can't find it now, but I seem to recall running across something about running a checksum on a BIOS from a Linux OS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a new laptop recently, and probably about 4 days later, it got the System Check virus. A friend helped me get rid of the virus(I think), but a lot of my stuff still seems to be hidden. Unhide.exe got back my desktop icons, and some of my Start Menu, but I'm still missing almost all of the right side of said start menu. The Control Panel, Help and Support, Search, etc etc.I have Windows 7.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:
Repair Action/ System files Integrity check and repair
Result Failed / Error code = 0x490
Time Taken / 700863 ms
I've run sfc from an elevated window and it says everything is fine.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi recently got a computer from my aunt, and decided to put windows 7 on it. Before I installed it, I put in a Geforce 8800 graphics card and a (2nd) cd rom drive. After 20 failed attempts to install windows 7 (it kept freezing at the completing installation part) it worked after i disconnected the new graphics card and one of the hard drives. Now, however, i keep on getting periodic blue screens with the following error messages : Memory Management, and PFN_List Corrupt. I ran a memory diagnostic and it said that the memory is fine. What is wrong with my computer? I also ran a system repair thing from the windows 7 disk, and it came up with this error: System File Integrity Check and Repair Error Code 0X490
My Hardware is:
AMD Anthlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
2 Hitachi HDT725032VLA SCSI 320 gb hard drives
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GS Graphics Card
3gb of system memory
when i click format a 150 gb partition space in disk management option i recieved the following message "An unexpected error has occurred. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error. Close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer". and the drive does not appear like other drives in MY Computer?

I was told my ram would be 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM Corsair or Major Brand, and I downloaded CPU-Z, and this is what I got from it.
it is DDR3, Module Size: 2048 MB, Max Bandwidth: PC3-10700H (667 MHz), Manufacturer: A-Data Technology.
Does this mean that it is not 1333 MHz, i mean it seems so obvious, but I am just checking if I was lied to or not.
I have a dell lattitude lap top running windows 7. I had picked up a virus that seemed to shake up norton AV. I think I have it settled, but still can not have anyone webex in. Norton did not think this was the virus and suggest I search the OS or whatnot. Before reinstalling Windows 7, is there a program I can run similar to the old scan disk, to check for errors?
