800mhz X 4 would be 3.2ghz or am I wrong? My CPU is rated for 2.8 and I haven't overclocked anything yet.I would like to overclock my ddr2 1000 ram to 1033 because my motherboard is only reading it as 800 right now. What would be the best way to go about this? This is the first time I've tried to overclock anything.

My son started having an issue with his custom PC after he overclocked the cpu. After he overclocked the machine it lost the OS. You'd turn on the machine and "No Operating System Found" is all that would display.I tried to reload Windows after changing the BIOS to load from the DVD first. All it would do is say "Windows is loading files", then say, "Starting Windows", then go right back to loading files. Just kept looping. So, I pulled out the hard drive and put in another hard drive from my PC to see if it would run...
I can turn on the PC using the power button but there is no display and the power button LED is not eliminated like normal. Also, I can not power down the PC with the power button. I have to switch the PSU off. I made sure all the connections to the mobo and psu were tight. The mobo led is eliminated. All fans are running. The hard drive is being accessed CD/DVD is working Reset the CMOS battery (took it out put it back in). I don't know what to do next.

it's overclocked, both CPU and GPU and i've done a lot of adjusting over the years
it was doing so many BSOD when i was tweaking the overclock, but i left it alone when i left the home i was at, at the time (i have had it so it was much stable and was rarely BSOD'ing) and i moved to somewhere else for a while, but anyways
now i'm back and taking my computer to my actual home, so now i want to get this under control

I had a "windows explorer has stopped working" the other day. Everything seems to work fine but I thought it might be a good idea to try and scan the system to make sure all is well.

So I ran msinfo32, and I was browsing through it to see if it could give me any interesting information (stuff like drivers I still needed to install, getting the USB ports to actually use 2.0 like they're supposed to but have never done under XP/Ubuntu/7). And came up with the following surprising pic - there's quite a few entries through the list, but this is the part with the most wtfs-per-screen.

Alright, so I am working remotely on a computer trying to remove the System Scan virus. Now I have followed all steps, and removed countless viruses from safe mode using both super-antispyware and malwarebytes. I followed all instructions given in the removal guide on this site, including using rKill and the tdsskiller. I seem to remove the virus sucessfully, but as soon as I restart in normal mode from my users account, the virus is right back. Is there a known variation of this virus that reinstalls itself? Are there any other recommendations

Is there a way to do the equivalent of a system file check on a BIOS? I just installed a BIOS update on my friend's new (Win7, 64bit) Compaq CQ57, and it occurred to me that checking it - maybe running a checksum on it? - would be a good idea. I'm going to install an Ubuntu partition on this machine. I can't find it now, but I seem to recall running across something about running a checksum on a BIOS from a Linux OS.

I am having the strangest readings from WEI.
Currently I am running Corsair 4 x 1GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM (5-5-5-18). At stock speeds, WEI is reporting a score of 5.5.
My roommate also has 4 x 1GB of DDR2 with SAME timings and he is getting a WEI score of 7.1. A HUGE difference.
I have tried overclocking my RAM to 4-4-4-12 at 900MHz and 2.1V. WEI STILL reports a 5.5 rating.
I have also recently bought 2 x 2GB DDR2 G-Skill RAM with 5-5-5-15 timings. WEI STILL gives a 5.5 rating.
I have also tried running 2 x 1GB of my Corsair RAM... HALF of what I usually run. WEI STILL gives a 5.5 rating.
Also, on the Sticky thread in this forum about memory assessment, mine hovers around 5863 MB/s... I've seen people post in there with slower timings then what I have mine overclocked at and get faster speeds...
Edit: I just put my RAM back to default timings... I am still getting the same MB/s rate. WHY?!
Edit: Roommate just ran winsat mem in the command console and got a 7000 MB/s rating whereas I am getting 5863... he has the SAME RAM just different companies.
What the crap is going on? Massively overclocking my RAM doesn't even change the rating slightly. Any help into this would be awesome.

I bought a new laptop recently, and probably about 4 days later, it got the System Check virus. A friend helped me get rid of the virus(I think), but a lot of my stuff still seems to be hidden. Unhide.exe got back my desktop icons, and some of my Start Menu, but I'm still missing almost all of the right side of said start menu. The Control Panel, Help and Support, Search, etc etc.I have Windows 7.

I've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:
Repair Action/ System files Integrity check and repair
Result Failed / Error code = 0x490
Time Taken / 700863 ms
I've run sfc from an elevated window and it says everything is fine.

i recently got a computer from my aunt, and decided to put windows 7 on it. Before I installed it, I put in a Geforce 8800 graphics card and a (2nd) cd rom drive. After 20 failed attempts to install windows 7 (it kept freezing at the completing installation part) it worked after i disconnected the new graphics card and one of the hard drives. Now, however, i keep on getting periodic blue screens with the following error messages : Memory Management, and PFN_List Corrupt. I ran a memory diagnostic and it said that the memory is fine. What is wrong with my computer? I also ran a system repair thing from the windows 7 disk, and it came up with this error: System File Integrity Check and Repair Error Code 0X490
My Hardware is:
AMD Anthlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
2 Hitachi HDT725032VLA SCSI 320 gb hard drives
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GS Graphics Card
3gb of system memory

my i7 idles around 40's? it has always been like this CPU: 43 Core 0 42 Core:1 41 Core 2: 42 core 3 41 ( my aux is 128 ) but people have told me speed fan gives a false reading for that considering its been stuck at just 128 and nothing on my mobo is that hot... also considering that is above boiling temp.. anyways my point i'm getting to is that when i run rsbot ( runescape bot ) my cpu usage hit 100% and when i move my mouse everything starts to slow up exteremly terrible almost at the point where i can control anything and my cpu temp gets up 73+ cores are like 90's + but see when i play minecraft , or world of warcraft or diablo cpu stays around high 40's to 50's and core temps are around mids 60's i've tried everything to get it down and the problem i have is i used to be able to run rsbot compelety fine... i mean i could even run rsbot and play minecraft at the same time... the other day i relized my computer was being extremly laggy i thought it was my mouse because i just got a new one and i looked at the cpu temps ( this was just idle ) and they were 90's... i freaked out and took my computer apart and scrapped off the old thermal applied new and now its back to 40's but it seems to lag a bit at time.... now and it doesn't feel the same i applied theremal paste this is probally the 3rd time i applied it in the last 3 months... i don't get it i'm puting 2 rice grains sizes maybe not even that much i'm making sure it covers the whole cpu.. everything.. it only hits 100% when using rsbot

my computer keeps overheating whenever im doing gaming or otherwise. It first started when i was playing a game on Windows 7 and it crashed, and its been crashing ever since.
I have tried reinstalling Windows 7 and it crashed while it was reinstalling. however xp is more stable and since then whenever i try to play a game my computer freezes so i have come to the conclusion that's its an overheating problem.
I am not sure if its my gpu because its at 66c right now and it normally goes up to 80c while gaming. but i am also not sure if its my system fan as my bios says its going at 800rpm and easy tune pro comes up with a warning saying its too slow.

I'm having an issue with my Zotac AMP! GeForce GTX 550 Ti where it seems to be overheating at a low temperature. While playing Skyrim (low or high settings), at some point my sound will become very tinny and the game will drop to under 2 FPS about every 30 seconds. Most recently, Windows Aero disabled itself without an error message of any kind. After much frustration, I discovered that this only occurred when my GPU reached 50 and above. To me, this seems odd because I thought cards could perform at temperatures well over 70. I'm also confused as to why this would even be affecting my sound at all. I've disabled all HD audio devices with NVIDIA drivers to use my Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme with drivers from Creative. I should mention that in order to get my GPU fan running at an appropriate speed, I have to manually set it to 100% with Zotac's OC utility FireStorm. I recently added three 120mm fans to my case. Does anyone know what could be wrong here?

5 months ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite z830, recently over the last 2 weeks I've noticed it getting very hot while running programs etc (i figured this was normal), however it gets so physically hot I thought maybe not so normal. I download speccy and it showed the following:
CPU: 80 - 85 degrees
Motherboard:80 -85 degrees
Harddrive: 55 - 60 degrees
Last night I would get those temps about a minute after I turn on the pc, after about 5 minutes windows will freeze and I would have to shut down. Some times a window would pop up saying 'the program is not responding' or something like that.

I have a HP Pavillion dv6680ea laptop, and I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 32-bit. I find that the fan is constantly blowing and the computer is constantly overheating. After a small bit of searching through the forums I can see it may be an issue with upgrading the BIOS? But HP don't officially offer such an upgrade for this model.
