I would like to free up some space on my computer. I had a trial of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 but never used it. When I try to uninstall it the computer will not.

Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86(32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, then contact the software publisher". I checked the version and it was 32 bit (under Program X86). The problem was the application (Microsoft word 2007) worked last night, until the windows update 7 has caused the application to become incompatible. Is there a way to correct the error?

View 1 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron w/Win 7. MS Office worked fine this week. On 1/22/12 I contacted Dell re: blue screen problem. Tech said it was because my computer was running too slowly and he did cleanup, etc. Then he installed System Mechanic and told me it would solve problems. Had even more problems so contacted Dell last Sunday (1/29/12) and THAT tech told me System Mechanic should never have been installed because it conflicts with my anti-virus and told me to uninstall which I did 1/30/12 after conv. w/Dell about refunding my money.Discovered my AV had not updated at all during the week. Contacted Total Defense today...spent 4 hours w/him to uninstall/reinstall and get it working.NOW none of the MS office programs work. All say they're not installed, but they are there in the program files. Tried to reinstall from CD...quit half way through and said it could not finish installation. I used Excel during the week so I know it was working after System MEchanic install but do not know if the uninstall of that or the changes the AV tech made are responsible

Since I upgraded to Office Home and Student 2010, when I click on the Word item I want, a window opens up and asks me what program I want to use to open it up, 'Notepad' or 'Wordpad'. I want neither. I just want it to open up like it did before I upgraded.

I am trying to install windows 7 to the second hard drive in my laptop in a manner which ignores the first hard drive completely.My laptop contains 2 hard drives. The first drive (with respect to boot order) contains a Safeguard-Easy-encrypted Windows XP, and I would like to install Windows 7 to the second hard drive. After installing Windows 7, I would like to be able to select the hard drive to boot from using the boot menu of the laptop's BIOS.The installation went smoothless, but - as expected - damaged the MBR and the bootloader on my first hard drive.
I am able to repair the first hard drive (using Linux and the dd command line tool), but even after hours of googling and trying, I cannot figure out how to manage to obtain a working windows installation on the second hard drive - I've tried several things: I copied the MBR from the first hard drive to the second, I copied the first blocks of the primary partition of my first hard drive to the second, but all this didn't help. When booting from the windows DVD, I cannot use the bootsect.exe tool as only the partitions of the first drive are visible (parted.exe shows the second drive but not it's partitions, even if I select the second drive to be active)

When I open start menu, all my recent programs have again converted to word.When I have opened any of these a word document opens, a load of gobbildygook, as well as can not open in dos mode.I have managed to cercumnavigate word and excel, by opening one of my exixting files starting a new document and saving this to desktop, but can only do this with paint, word, and excel.

I thought that perhaps I had accidentally deleted them, so I used recuvar to try and retieve them but they were nowhere to be seen. I am sure that I didn't delete them, and if I had they would have shown up on the recuver deep scan, but they didn't. I then thought they could have been deleted by a virus, but when I did a scan I only found a tracking cookie- that's the only things I found.

Now the only option I am ever given is Keep Text only. I have tried resetting the default paste settings, but this makes no difference whatsoever. It makes no difference whether I select Paste on the screen or use Control + v on the keyboard. It makes editing documents so much more time consuming.

The only way I seem to be able to open the files in my documents folder is opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first then go to file -> open the .docx file. If I try opening it directly from my documents folder without opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first, there's a popup that says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
