Trying To Setup A 2x Windows 7 Boot

Jan 10, 2013

Im currently trying to setup a 2x windows 7 boot, but running into problems..i made two primary partitions, install w7 on the first. after that i activate the second one, hide the first and install w7 on the second one.now, when i activate the first one again, it turns out to be "destroyed". with xp this method was 100% working. win7 seems to handle it somehow different.

New Asus Does Not Boot Windows 7 Setup

Aug 12, 2012

I just got a brand new asus cm6730 desktop pc. It comes with Windows 7, predictably.I started it up, as the instructions were fairly simple. Upon doing so, I got a black screen for an unimaginably long time. It was supposed to take only a few minutes. It was close to 30 minutes.I restarted the computer to see what was wrong and went to the safe mode terminal to see if anything popped up. Indeed. After it loaded a bunch of packages, it prompted me to restart to continue with installation.

Windows 7 Installs & Completes The Setup Very Well But Doesn't Boot?

Sep 8, 2010

I had Intel DG31PR motherboard and I recently changed it to a Intel DG41RG board. I intalled Windows 7 and it worked very well with DG31PR but when I try to intall it with DG41RQ the setup completes successfully(it boots itself from hard disk during installation several times without any problem) and when Windows 7 tries to boot itself for the first time it fails. After loading BIOS I get a blank screen. It happens with both x64 & x32 but other windows such as XP and Vista works fine. I tried my copy of Windows 7 with several other computers including one having Core i3,DH55TC and windows 7 installs and works in them very well. I tried 2 genuine DG41RQ motherbords but the problems persists

Partition The New 1TB Drive For Dual Boot Setup With Windows 7 Home X64 / WinXP Pro (32-bit)

Nov 11, 2010

The motherboard died on my 3-year-old Compaq, so I just ordered a new computer that comes preloaded with Win7Home Prem x64. It was from Dell Outlet so I couldn't choose the OS. I've been using MCE (XP pro 32-bit) for several years and love it.I'm worried about program and hardware compatibility with Windows 7 x64. I don't use very graphics-heavy apps like CADD, Photoshop, etc. I only plan to do a little video editing with my .avi clips. I also have an older version of Replay AV that I use to record live streaming radio. I don't want to buy a new scanner (Canoscan LiDE 20 - no x64 drivers!) so here are my options:

A-Partition the new 1TB drive for dual boot setup with Windows 7 Home x64 / WinXP Pro (32-bit). I would buy the XP Pro OEM Branded DVD.

B-Install my old 200GB SATA Seagate Barracuda 7200 as a second drive and run XP programs and scanner from that.

C-Buy Win 7 Pro 32-bit OEM Branded discs, remove Windows 7 home x64, and do a complete new install with the new discs, and hope that my XP programs work with XP Mode. (new i5 processor supports virtualization)

Windows Auto Boot Into Windows Setup Loop

Mar 28, 2012

Yesterday I've reinstalled windows on my laptop, the only 'problem' was that on booting, the system lets you choose between windows 7 and windows xp setup. Windows xp setup was the default choice. Now when I was done installing windows 7, I wanted to get rid of the win xp setup boot option. In my control panel, I deselected the option for the boot selection screen where you can set the time. Now my pc got stuck in some kind of boot loop where it only boots into win xp setup. I don't know how to resolve this because the only option I have on booting is entering the bios... when I press f12 it should go to boot options, but it just goes automaticly to win xp setup.

Setup A Dual Boot Never Finished

Sep 18, 2009

Yesterday I tried To install the last RC before RTM v7600.16385 64bit on my dv9000

I am currently running RC7100 no problems yet... since May, So i started installing this newest build on my spare HDD (drive F) I was looking to try out the latest as a dual boot situation (at least that was my original plan) So I set Off- and it looked suspiciously like it was erasing my drive C plus it hung up on install(or I got Paranoid and canceled the install) either way after the cancellation it rolled back to previous state(no files were harmed...)but now on my boot screen it offers me windows set-up and below that in the list windows 7 Ultimate(recovered) it never did that before when I select Set Up it goes into the 7 set up screen (light blue with plants) and restarts continually never finishes ... that is the first thing, Secondly when I select windows 7 ult.

(recovered) it boots normal! How do i remove the option for "Set Up" under the boot screen and also change the windows 7 Recovered back to normal, I tried restoring to a previous State using System restore and selected a point 3 days prior to yesterday but on start up it does the same thing The set up is first on the boot list How can I get my system back to normal I cant do a fresh install I have to much valuable stuff that i cant risk losing I tried restore and it apparently didnt help, what else can I do...Will a repair install help and if so Will it erase any programs and personal Data such as Itunes Libraries and photos and misc.. programs and will it dump the other set up on the boot screen?

No Boot After Unplugging Setup Drive

May 2, 2009

I have downloaded the Windows 7 RC1 ISO and "burnt" it onto a 16GB OCZ Throttle eSATA / USB drive (exactly as in the SevenForums tutorial). I can boot from this drive and install Windows with no problem.

But... I believe the 200MB system partition is somehow being placed on the flash drive, because once I disconnect it and attempt to boot, I get the standard "DISK BOOT FAILURE..." message.

I've followed the suggestions on the "How to avoid 200MB hidden system partition" page (i.e., pre-create the desired partitions on the installation drive rather than installing to unallocated space), but I'm still getting the problem.

The "Windows might create additional partitions..." dialog box popped up once, on my first installation attempt - and I did foolishly click "OK" to it. It hasn't appeared since for me to click "Cancel" to, however much I try deleting and remaking partitions

Has anything changed in RC1 regarding the system partition? Is it more persistent in creating it than it was with the Beta?

Bootmgr Missing When Setup Dual Boot

Aug 24, 2009

I spent the day trying to fix my operating systems boot.

Earlier in the day i tried to install a MacOSX (I've formated the second hard-drive asoff now) on a seperate hard-drive (CRIVE AKA Windows 7 drive was unplugged). After i was done i decided to plug in the c drive because i wanted to get on windows to setup dualboot. But for some reason it said bootmgr missing...

I've tried bootrec /fixboot and the other ones.

I just checked my drive somehow Cdrive turned in to D drive would that be the problem? Could somebody please show me a way to change from D drive to C drive?

If this would help nail the problem. Also tried to boot the hard-drive from my laptop via esata. I get a different problem i get a blue screen during the Windows seven loading screen. Heres the stop code: 0x0000007b.

Setup Computer With Backup Boot Drive?

Jul 4, 2012

I am wondering if there is a way for me to set up my computer in the following manner:

C: <- Main Boot Drive (60GB SSD)
D: <- Copy of Boot Drive (60GB SSD)
E: <- Program Drive (1TB HDD)
F: <- Storage Drive (2TB HDD)
G: <- Download Drive (500GB)

I have done the separate program and storage drive before, but I was wondering if perhaps a way to back up my boot drive without necessarily raid. It was brought to my attention that if something were to go wrong with the data then raid would automatically copy it (which makes sense), or am I worrying to much?

New System Setup - Dual Boot OS And Application SSD

Jan 15, 2013

I am at a bit of a loss here in regards to partitions, as I've never really done it, I want to configure a new system setup under the following circumstances:

SSD(1): (dual-boot OS drive)
+ Partition 1: Windows 7
+ Partition 2: Windows Server 2012

SSD(2): (program / file drive)
+ Partition 1: one large single partition for application / program storage; e.g., Visual Studio 2012 and SharePoint Server 2013.

I need to have an instance of Windows Server to use SharePoint Server. At times I will want to run the server set-up to facilitate TFS and SharePoint with a very small team of developers, school related for example. And at other times I would like to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate so I can have a normal browsing experience and play games, etc. But of course I could also develop with VS11.X in Win 7 environment if needed.

My question, is what I'm proposing possible? I want to use Windows 7 normally most the times, but at others I will require Server 2012 to use SharePoint. Can I share the same program resources on the second SSD regardless what OS I boot into? What issues may rise if I tried running SharePoint (or just having SharePoint) while booted into Windows 7? Will I have to create two partitions on the 2nd SSD, a copy of apps for each OS due to system registry constraints.

Dual Boot Setup - Unable To Identify Network Error

Mar 3, 2012

Just today I decided to download the Windows 8 consumer preview and setup my PC to dual boot with it.I am running Windows 7 home premium 64bit and the 64 bit windows 8 on my other partition. After setting up a separate partition on my hard drive and loading windows8 to this partition, I was all up and running. I had no problems setting up or running windows 8, the problem came when I booted back to windows 7 for the first time. When I booted into windows 7, I was getting the "unable to identify network" error, and no network connectivity.

First thing I tried was simply disable/enabling my network adapter thinking it was just some hiccup. No luck there. Next I pulled the power from my router, and let it completely reboot. Still no luck. I then shut down my pc and booted back into windows 8 and sure enough I am able to get internet connectivity when I am running windows 8. This got me to thinking that when I loaded windows 8 there may be some new drivers installed for my network card that are somehow causing issues when I load into windows 7 again. Not sure how this is possible.

I was under the understanding that when I loaded Win8 to the separate partition that it would keep all it's drivers and settings there and not effect anything when I was loaded back on windows 7 (This logic could be completely wrong, I don't know). So I rebooted and loaded back into windows 7, went into device manager and uninstalled both network adapters and drivers, and rebooted into windows 7 again so it could re-discover and setup the network cards with default windows 7 drivers. This did not work either and I am still getting the same error.

System Fails To Boot Setup DVD - STOP ERROR 0x000000A5

Feb 26, 2010

run windows 7 on an old laptop, an hp pavilion zt1250 (1ghz, 1gb ram, 20gb hdd, dvd/cd, external wlan, xga screen, that sort of old). it isn't like a serious installation, it is more like a "post on Internet to a "windows 7 running on a nine year old laptop" or "wow your friends with your old computer running a newer os than their new one (possibly)"", and because it looks pretty darn cool. anyway, i pop in the install dvd and we get past the gray progress bar and onto "starting windows", until all of the sudden out of nowhere, just a second before the cutesy windows logo animation appears, i am instantly greeted with a blue screen saying nothing more than:

stop: 0x000000a5 (0x0001000b, 0x50434146, 0xffd0ac0, 0x00000000)

it does it on all install discs that i've tried, and it gives me the same error consistently every time. i even tried starting the installer within xp, and that starts okay, but after the first reboot where it boots the partially installed os from the hard drive, it does the same thing before it can continue. everything that is not essential has been unplugged, tried removing ram modules, on battery or plugged in, checked the extremely simple bios settings menu (you can change like three things, none of which pertain to the situation), and most other items that could possibly be covered here. this leads me to the conclusion, that since it my disc is fine and my hardware is fine (did a bios update), that the installation disc must be first modified in some way, perhaps to skip a certain unnecessary check?

Windows Cannot Find Setup.exe

Feb 29, 2012

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I cannot install some programs that have to beusing setup.exe (if I use msi installer - it's OK, but some programs like Adobe Photoshop Elements must be installed using setup.exe). When I click on setup.exe, I'm instantly getting a message that this file cannot be found.

This is not a problem with the particular program, but with many. Also, couple months ago I didn't have these problems with the same programs. I've tried Microsoft FixIt - didn't help. I don't know when this happened, but at least two months ago, so I cannot even use the restore point.

I'd also ran SFC /scannow, it fixed some problems, but not this one. Are there any ways to fix this besided re-installing Windows?
