The rest is on the mobo.I have a usb mouse and usb kB plugged in.I started with the setup DVD and changed language and chose to install It go to expanding files okay and updates then rebooted back to where I was at the start.I have tried to Repair but just get nowhere. I am so confused now.I just redid it again and now get a blue sceen with multiple_irp_complete requests.I did notice that this time it had allocated a partition 1 to system so I had to choose part 2.

one of the netbooks was plugged in to initially power it up, but then hard-shut-down before Windows could run through its initial setup. Now when I boot up the netbook, and it attempts to go through the initial windows setup "Setup is starting services", and then throws an error message: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.I restart, and the cycle continues. This happens whether I try to boot normally or in safe modeI've got no CD-drive attached to it, so I'm not sure what I can do to break this error cycle.

I am trying to upgrade Vista to Windows7 Home Premium and I got this message after the installer copied ~2GB of files on my PC:
"setup can't continue. restart the computer and restart setup. when prompted try getting the latest updates."
I restarted the PC and restarted the setup and I got the same message. I updated the Mother Board Bios and restarted the setup I got the same message. I have tried both options (get update and no update during the setup). And it didn't work.
I do not want to do custom install (fresh install) on my computer.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I cannot install some programs that have to beusing setup.exe (if I use msi installer - it's OK, but some programs like Adobe Photoshop Elements must be installed using setup.exe). When I click on setup.exe, I'm instantly getting a message that this file cannot be found.
This is not a problem with the particular program, but with many. Also, couple months ago I didn't have these problems with the same programs. I've tried Microsoft FixIt - didn't help. I don't know when this happened, but at least two months ago, so I cannot even use the restore point.
I'd also ran SFC /scannow, it fixed some problems, but not this one. Are there any ways to fix this besided re-installing Windows?

I'm setting up a semi public computer, but we want to limit it to a group of about 50 people. Can I give them each a standard account, username and password? Or is that too many users?I'd like to be able to log them separately so that they can be billed according to the time used.

Almost one month ago, I installed win x64. Working fine, no problems! All games running smooth... But when I try to install Command and Conquer Red Alert 3, the easetup.exe/autorun.exe does not start at all! Nothing on task manager or no error message either.

I don't have an answer but I do have a similiar problem. I upgraded from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit on my netbook. I created a bootable USB, copied the windows 7 files onto it and everything worked OK. However, when I bootup I also get the Boot Manager screen offering me 2 options:
Windows 7
Windows setup (EMS enabled)
which goes ahead and boot into Windows 7 after a countdown. Why would I ever want to boot into Winsdows setup? I would like to know if there is a proper way to bypass this boot manager screen. When I was installing the upgrade, I did see a small 40mb partition which was "reserved by the OEM" which I could not use, is that anything to do with it?

I just purchased a OCZ Vertex 2 120 GB and was wondering what is the recommended setup for an SSD? I currently have a WD Raptor 300 GB, a older WD 150 GB hard drive and I am using Windows 7 64 bit. Is it recommended to use the SSD just for the Operating System or can you use it for all of your programs?

My office is undergoing a Windows 7 migration and we'll be purchasing ~20 machines. I'd like to optimize each machine by turning off various services and creating a global standard user profile. We run a workgroup, is there a way I can copy the service.msc mods and the global user profile from a single machine and apply those changes to all machines?

I would need some advice on the following issue I am encountering on my Windows 7 MCE setup. The unit is a GF8300 motherboard with a low power AMD CPU. I am primarily using the HDMI output both for audio and video, quite recently since prior to that I as using an old DSP-A1 with SPDIF input only, so only video was routed through the HDMI output.Note that I reinstalled everything from scratch, and no additionnal codec installed (except Haali media splitter and the associated registry hack to enable MKV support in MCE).I'm located in Europe, so I use the 1920x1080 50Hz setting, latest NV drivers.I have now a new amplifier (Denon AVR-3311), and I'm running into several issues.Mode switch: WMC keep changing mode output. When playing back LiveTV, it goes into 1080i mode. Likewise playing a video file results into a mode switch (and for that I still don't understand why, since the video file is 1080p).HDMI hotplug autodetection: the new amplifier has an HDMI switch built-in. Problem is... when I switch input on the amplifier, the MCE unit registers a hotunplug event. And when it reconnects (ie when I switch back on the input to the MCE PC0, the end result is quite random: I've had instances of 1080i mode, even on the front end, the audio setup is messed up (it goes back from 7.1 to stereo),So if anyone has a way to.Force MCE to NOT switch modes and keep 1080p 50Hz.Disable HDMI hotplug detection

A few years ago I followed the instructions on the zunta blog to set up a vpn tunnel from my work PC (win xp) to my home PC (win xp) using openSSH and putty. Im not a network guy but I followed the directions and eventually got it working. After a year things changed and I didnt need it anymore, but now I need it again. My home Pc now runs windows 7 and the directions are 5 years out of date. Can someone please point me to a tutorial explaining how to set up an ssh tunnel from a putty client to win 7 server? Hopefully it will be easier with Win 7, doesn't Win 7 has something like open ssh built in?

I bought Windows 7 in the middle of Jan. this year and it don't work on my PC. It will install but after the install I lose all video from my Graphics Card. But XP doesn't have that problem like 7 does. I have called Microsoft multiple times about the issue and they have not figured out the problem. Is it a problem with my GTS250 or what else would the problem be. I also have had all my other hardware tested and have found no faults to it. I would like to use windows 7 but Microsoft can't figure out the problem.

i was wondering if anyone had advice/expierence with windows 7 not working past the welcome screen? yesterday i had been using google chrome and dl'd a song off Internet when suddenly the cpu shutdown. i thought it was powersave mode but it ended up being setup repair. i let a few hours pass and booted again, got to the home screen and it was my previous 3 accounts not a new one where all my files were moved. major problem was that neither my mouse or keyboard worked. i tried going into various safe modes but theyd all result in the same thing. the funny thing is thatboth mouse and keyboard work in the boot and bios but not at login.

I have always advised anyone who asked, to get a clean setup of Windows on any new computer they buy. On a Dell, that usually meant ordering from the Dell business division and specifically asking for a clean setup of Windows and a Dell-branded Windows Setup disk as opposed to a system recovery set.I got a call from someone today who said Dell declined that request and stated they no longer sell any computer from any of their divisions with clean (uncrapified) Windows.

Set-up isn't finishing as the install will crash BSOD 0x0116 with atikmag.sys causing the problem.(**Note, there is NO Minidump found after this crash - I"ve lookedlooked.. and looked... so I took a digital photo of the BSOD screen in the moments it flashed)I can't complete the install using safe mode, but in safe mode I can get to the part where set-up is trying to finish. So, how can I force the install to bypass graphics card driver install and install a standard SVGA driver until I can get the thing to finish set-up??

I have tried every way possible in Win 7 to set up a file association with '.pub' files and Microsoft Publisher, with no luck. Normally under 'Control Panel' - 'Default Programs' - 'Set associations' you can browse for program and when selected you can make it the default program for the particular extension. I simply can not select the MS Publisher executable for association - it is just ignored. I suspect this may be a registry issue but am not sure where and how to fix it.

My main desktop PC having HDD only setup, then I bought a Intel 320 Series 80GB SSD and migrated my system over to it using Intel's software, then made the HDD a storage drive due to limited space on my SSD. Fast forward to now. My SSD is basically dead from a firmware bug that makes data irrecoverable without some special algorithm that professional data recovery centers have. Oddly enough, it came back to life, I rebooted, imaged whole system including both drives. I had been doing this, but most recent backup was a month prior, so I stood to lose quite a bit that I had done over that month stretch. The new image went great. I was saved and so excited. Apparently that was a one and done deal, as it never has worked since then.
I intend on ordering new (bigger) SSD to replace it, keeping setup the same, as new SSD will still be too small. Now from my understanding, I can restore my image to both drives and everything will be as it it never left? Is this correct? How about things like partition alignment or special SSD configuration that I had to do some of when I first configured it as so? Is that carried over since it would be in the image or am I good to go once restore is complete? Also, in meantime, I have another SSD in box, but it is smaller. Is it worthwhile to use that temporarily, then migrate system over to new SSD when I get it? Or should I just wait until I get new SSD and restore current image to that?

I would like to setup 2 monitors on my computer. I know my computer is older but it is very fast and I don't plan on using the monitors on resource hogging stuff
My specs are:
Intel pentium 4 3ghz HT ENABLED
4gb ram
1tb hdd
Nvidia gt 520 1gb
windows 7
My monitors are 2 different inputs / outputs
If I just plugged them both in to the plugin on my gpu would it work and have to adjust stuff? I have never used dual monitors so I don't know. One monitor has a 1600x900 (I plan on this being main monitor)
Other is 1024x768. One of them is dvi and other is vga.
