View 4 Replies View RelatedI am living in Beijing, China at present and am about to buy a new Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. This comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Preinstalled (Chinese Version). I then intend to use the Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program to acquire Eglish language media
It is clear in Microsoft's documentation that this is not a supported upgrade path.
However, assuming I can get Lenovo to provide the English Language Windows 7 upgrade media, I should be able to do a clean install as per Doing a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version and Paul Thurrot's Method.
In fact this would be the method for achieving any unsupported upgrade path, eg:
Vista 32 -> 7 64
Vista 64 -> 7 32
Chinese Vista -> English 7
Can anyone confirm that this is true, particularly for the language upgrade.
The problem is, when I've got one input language chosen and am working on a Word document, I am able to write using that language. As soon as I open other software (for example start searching the web), the input language changes automatically. This means I cannot write my document and then proceed using same language on the Internet, but I have to change the input language separately when I swap from Word to Internet browser.Is it possible to change the settings so that if I'd be using one input language in one software, after changing the software the input language would remain the same and not change? It is quite annoying, though it is probably helpful for those who are using different languages in different software and don't want to swap the language every time they move from one soft to another.Another annoying thing is that I cannot give the name to my file if there's a folder which has the same name. If I have folder 01 on my desktop and I have a file which I want to name as 01, as I press "Save" the file isn't being saved. Windows just opens the folder named 01 and shows it's content (in the same window where you need to enter the filename and have Save button). How can I change this setting so that Windows would let me save file 01 even though I've got folder with the same name.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI may have misunderstood the literature regarding the language packs or language proofing tools. 1st of all I am not sure if they are the different names for the same thing or not. Are they? 2nd I do not in ay way want to change my UI with a different language. All I want to be able to do is -1- let Office not give me those squiggly red lines when I write in a different language -2- be able to spell-check and grammar check in the other language. And since I often use more than one language at the same time (2 to 3) be able to use all of the languages for spell-check etc. at the same time.What I have legally downloaded are 3 files that have such a series of numbers/letters: X16-37717.exe, X16-37707.exe, X16-37690.exe.

View 2 Replies View Relatedone of the netbooks was plugged in to initially power it up, but then hard-shut-down before Windows could run through its initial setup.Now when I boot up the netbook, and it attempts to go through the initial windows setup "Setup is starting services", and then throws an error message: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.I restart, and the cycle continues. This happens whether I try to boot normally or in safe modeI've got no CD-drive attached to it, so I'm not sure what I can do to break this error cycle.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.
Before
After
My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.
I've removed one of the language keyboard input in the settings but seems like it still appears in my language bar in desktop and it doubts me because everytime I have to shift twice to get back my input language into "EN" after using other language input.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am about to purchase an asus laptop in Germany (with Windows 7 HP on). Now I know I can't change the system language (need windows ultimate for that) but I believe on Asus computers you can select English as the display language on the initial install (so each shop is telling me) and so i have read (which i don't really understand as why can you do this on ASus laptops only - surely windows is windows? ie you can or you can't!).
If this is true i was wondering just what will be changed into English (i.e. what exactly is the display language)? I gather the majority of menus etc will be in English, but what about if my laptop goes wrong and I have to start digging a bit deeper? Does anyone know if all the settings menus change so i'll be able toedit the registry if need be (just an example!).
After installing Windows 7 SP1, many applications and websites do not appear in English or any other language, but in some language which resembles Wingdings. MS Word, Notepad, websites appear in Wingdings. MS Excel is the only program to appear in English. After re-installing Win 7 (without SP1) everything is again in English. But, after installing SP1 again, same problem. I'd appreciate any thoughts, including which updates of SP1 I might be able to install without problems.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 on a new laptop (QWERTY) for my wife. Generally we like it very much - but one problem has emerged. I'm pretty certain I know the cause, but I'd love it if the solution wasn't a complete uninstall/reinstall!When setting up Windows 7 I gave our location as France - primarily because that's where we live! One fairly rapid result was Windows 7 giving me a French keyboard, so I installed an English one, and got rid of the French.Another was some error messages in French, even though English is the selected language.But the real problem is in Excel. It won't recognise a number entered as 4.27 - it insists on the decimal point being a comma - 4,27 (as the French do, certainly with currency and probably with everything)
