so i upgraded my desktop from win7x64 to win8 if i hit the windows key it takes me to metro, which is fine.however if i click on an app, and then it loads, and hit the window key, it doesn't do anything. It doesn't put me back to the metro home screen. I have to alt tab, and then alt tab back, and then my keys start working.Sometiems it happens on the default metro screen too, I can click desktop and it doesn't take me me to the desktop, it just clicks in, but it doesn't do anything. I have to alt tab.
If I do the original size than it is way too overblown, but when I do fit to size (or whatever you call them) it has two black bars on flanking on the sides, so i want to fix that with tiles. But if I do tiles it shows them at original size which is overblown.
I have a HP Pavilion G6, second gen i3 laptop with 4GB ram. Recently I've been noticing my browser displaying a weird set of tile image at random times. From my experience, this only occurs on one tab at a time. That is, one tab will display the weird image, while other tab won't. I'm able to scroll up/down on that particular tab, but I won't be able to see the site because of the image overlay. After a minute or if I exit the tab, the symptoms go away.I mainly use google Chrome and Firefox and it's happened on both. I've reinstalled both browsers and it still happens.BTW the ram and CPU is below 50% when I check the task manager.
My work programs require XP and supposedly will not function on windows 7 nor the XP mode of same. I need a new computer, most likely a laptop, so I can work while traveling. I can't buy XP anymore. Any suggestions other than a new job?
So this problem started yesterday afternoon. I didn't download anything, but suddenly I was unable to browse the web. I tried all the web browsers I have but no websites would load. But skype and teamspeak still work.
I've just recently purchased a generic wireless mouse from eBay. more specifically, this one: 2.4GHz USB Receiver Wireless Optical Mouse F PC Laptop | eBay it doesn't work. I'm running Windows 7 64bit and it started installing the drivers, first it was installing "HID Wireless Mouse", then it switched to "USB Input Device" but failed after 3 seconds. now it's listed in Device Manager as "USB Input Device" with yellow sign that indicates it doesn't work. I tested it in 2 other Windows 7 32bit computers and it works just fine! installing drivers and everything. moreover - I testes my bro's logitech wireless mouse on my 64bit Windows 7 computer and it works fine. I think Windows fails on recognizing it. I mean the drivers are there.. the Logitech Mouse works but mine doesn't.. how do I make it work?
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW270F 15" laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium. 320 gb. Oh i'm also out of warranty.Computer always freezes at the point where it says "starting windows" and stays frozen. I even left it for alone for 24 hrs and it stayed on that screen.

2. Used safe mode to restore to earlier point = could not to restore message
3. Created repair disc from another Vaio win 64 = froze at "windows is starting"
4. Used registry clean and malware bytes in safe mode = malware bytes found nothing & reg clean did nothing
5. Fresh install of windows 7 = windows bar loaded then froze at "windows is starting"
6. Reformatted hard drive & performed fresh install = windows bar loaded 7 froze at same point
7. Bought new Western digital 320 gb SATA Hard drive & tried install of win 7= same results
Im trying to set up my hercules dj console rmx to my new windows 7 laptop but the problem is the software disk says it can only be installed in windows xp and vista. Is their anything i can do?
When I hover over a file that is supposed to have a preview option in Windows Explorer, the preview pane in explorer is blank. If I hover over a file that doesn't have a preview handler, it says "Preview not available". However the preview of images does work. Office files and PDFs won't display. I have checked all of the suggested folder options and they are set correctly. I have also found the preview handlers in the registry and they are all referenced there. I tried repairing Office and also did a sfc /scannow.
First I know this has been asked a many times but no solutions seems to work for me. I have a bunch of stuff going wrong and all seems to related to each other. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. That is how the problem progressed:1. I was trying to enable Telnet service and found out that 'Turn Windows Features on/off' in Control panel > Programs and Features is a blank list.I checked on internet and i found out that it means my windows update wont be working as well so i check it:2. Windows update gives the error 80070002 and it does not check for updates.. Again check net and it said to run sfc/scannow in command prompt (as administrator). I did it. and it gives error 'Windows Resource Protection can't execute the command'.
I have tried everything. I have tried: msconfig.exe to enable/disable services and restarting and rechecking. Uninstalling my Avast Antivirus. Running MS Fixit toolI have checked disk check in advanced startup options. Deleted C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload' contents and recheck the Windows update facility. Nothing works. I dont have Windows CD coz my laptop came installed with windows.
I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit on my Dell Precision 670 desktop. At first the sound worked OK untill I downloaded and installed R145551.exe. audio driver. Now there is no sound. The older driver which worked in Windows XP does not work now. Is there a sound card that will be compatible my system as it is now?
System - Mac w/Lion running Parallels so I can run Windows 7 software Purchased already - Windows 7 Home Premium full retail version My old Windows machine was dying and my family wanted to move this last family member PC holdout over to Mac. This is my first experience with Mac. My grown son wanted to make it as easy for me as possible, so he loaded a trial version of Windows 7 on the new Mac and got everything set up in parallels for me. The idea was that after I transferred all my files over to the new machine I could just move the activation over to the new machine and we would trash the ancient PC. I was all set last night to officially activate the trial version when I discovered that the new machine's trial version is Windows 7 Professional, not Windows 7 Home Premium. What I need to find out is if I purchase the retail Windows 7 Professional Upgrade version, could I simply enter that product key and not have to uninstall and reinstall now that I have the trail version for pro all nice and settled. I really do not want to have to uninstall, especially with the added complication of Parallels, install Home and then upgrade. I want 'KISS' and simply enter the product key for the professional upgrade and just keep on working with my set up system. Will that work?
I need to install Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 (64-bit, SP1). Firstly, there's no download link for Windows 7 on the Microsoft Download page as apparently all Windows 7 installations already have IE8 installed. Mine doesn't - I have IE9, and on add/remove Windows components, IE9 is my only option. Secondly, using the download link for IE8 for Vista x64 doesn't work, even when running with compatibility mode for Vista, the installation fails, for an unknown reason.
Thirdly, downloading the developer pack IEAK8 and using that to generate my own custom build of IE8 for Win7 failed because despite choosing the x64 option, it refuses to build anything except an x86 version, which of course won't run on my x64 OS. I'm kinda running out of options here. There doesn't seem to be a version of IE8 available for Windows 7 - but surely developers etc must be able to install it for troubleshooting?.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. I could not load into Windows so I tried the command prompt and did DISKPART, and activated a hidden partition, which is the E Drive. Now the problem is I cannot get back into the Command Prompt because I believe the E Drive is activated and not the C Drive.I have the Toshiba Recovery Disk, but when I load it up, it goes to the Starting Windows screen and then after that, a black screen with only the mouse arrow. Also, going through Safe Mode gets me back to the Starting Windows screen and then the black screen again. I think I need to get into the Command Prompt to fix the DISKPART to activate the C Drive, but I'm not sure.

I want to continue using VB6 now that I have had to up-grade to windows 7 but I am told that VB6 doesn't work here; is this true? Seems a bit unfair, I bought VB6 and thought I had got it for life
So I installed windows 7 onto a usb using their tool. So if I format my hard drive and restart will I be able to do a clean install of windows using the usb? Or is their a chance it might not work?
I just turned on my HP G60-t (Windows 7 Premium) laptop (after being out of use for about 3 months) and when i try clicking "check for updates" i get an error message:"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer" - after 2 restarts it still wont work.
Basically, the screensaver won't work in Windows 7. My laptop is a 32bit system with 2GB of RAM so not old. I upgraded about a year ago from Vista to Windows 7. Symptoms: the screensaver doesn't work - the screen is just blank. When I try to change the screensaver in Control Panel and preview it, it won't preview even after 'Apply'. There are only 4 or so screensaver options such as Bubbles and Mystify but none seem to work. I am aware of a problem with the Bubbles screensaver via the internet but am not sure if this is a problem. I sometimes get an error box up when I awake the laptop (error OXc0000017). When I tried to install a new screensaver, it wouldn't install and I got the same error message/code. I have changed the power settings now so the display never goes off but I don't think this will change things.
I had an issue with my computer so I re-installed Windows 7, but now my sound won't work =/ On the keyboard there is a shortcut to raise the volume or decrease the volume and a green bar used to pop up to show what percentage my sound was at and now that won't even show up. I went into properties and it says my device is installed properly ..
Q: Will this scanner work with Windows 7, My system is Windows 7. it states on the packageing - This film scanner supports Windows XP and Vista via USB 2.0 only?
I've been facing ever since I reformatted the system. I'm using wireless keyboard and when ever the machine is turned on, it wouldn't respond for the keyboard or mouse at the login screen. I have to force shut down and turn it on back to make it recognize. The second time works like a charm. Sometimes audio won't work for the first time but force restart solves it. I don't know why but I did install all the drivers.
I am having trouble getting a scanner to work with windows 7. The computer recognises the printer but not the scanner. I have tried 3 different multi-function printers with the same result. Using a HP Photosmart C4480 an error message 8,[(02-21474672590] comes up. I thought i might need to re-install windows 7 as re-installing the printer drivers does not solve the problem - or could it be a hardware problem, although I have tried plugging in to 2 different USB ports on the computer.
My windoes update on my Windows 7 64 Bit laptop will not work. I've tried starting it from the program in start but I get the error.
