I just turned on my HP G60-t (Windows 7 Premium) laptop (after being out of use for about 3 months) and when i try clicking "check for updates" i get an error message:"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer" - after 2 restarts it still wont work.
My windoes update on my Windows 7 64 Bit laptop will not work. I've tried starting it from the program in start but I get the error. When I go onto update.microsoft.com it tell me to update via Windows Update in start as well. I cannot check for updates. Most recent check: 11/28/10MOst recent update: 11/24/10Last update : Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2447568)This Compatibility View List update helps make Web sites that are designed for older browsers look better in Internet Explorer 8. When users install Internet Explorer 8, they will be given a choice about opting-in to a list of sites that should be displayed in Compatibility View
I have been trying to perform these updates for a month or 2 now but I always get the same errors. I get Error Codes 80073701 and 800F081E (see attached)
Clicking on "get help with this error" is useless, as you'd expect from Microsoft. According to Microsoft these are "important updates".
All other updates install correctly. I dont really care too much for IE9, but I figure Windows 7 SP1 (for 64 bit machine) might have some importance for security.!
I recently had a few bad viruses on my computer (some trojan and google redirect virus). I think I got rid of them, but I deleted a lot of stuff maybe I should not have in the process. Windows update no longer works. For a while, I was not even able to scan for updates, then I ran the fix it from the microsoft website and that let me scan, but when I try to install, I get this error message: Code 80246008 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. When I click on the link to get help with this error, it can't find any information on it.Anyways, when I go into control panel > administrative tools > services, Windows Update is not even in the list. How do I get it back? Do I have to reinstall windows?
Edit: I should also note I just tried to install the latest virus definitions for microsoft security essentials and I got error code 0x80240022. Says there may be a missing system file, an incorrect system setting, or a problem with a registry file.
The problem appeared in two different laptops (Lenovo and Fujitsu). The bluetooth hardware is not visible in device manager anymore, but unrecognized device appeared. Driver reinstall doesn't help. Driver installation setup says there is no bluetooth hardware. PC Suite is installed , worked fine before.
This may be difficult to troubleshoot because I have very few details about the computer in question. A friend called me because I am fairly good with basic computer problems. I'm not sure of the hardware specs, but it's a 2010 or 2011 model PC with Windows 7 installed. They did a Windows Update, and let it update just fine - they did not restart or shut down at all during the update. Once the update completed however, they can't open anything up.
Every time they try opening a program, they get an error message. Also, he mentioned that at first after the update, it wouldn't even boot up. He would get a message saying that he needs to restore to system defaults. Somehow, they got the computer to boot but it wont open any programs. How do you reset a Windows 7 computer to factory settings?
just curious if my system is still up to date which im really sure even tho i did a clean install of windows 7 professional 64bit. im pretty good at getting drivers but also looking to see if theres something missing whats the best driver update thats legit? driver genious?
I have a Dell XPS Studio MT 435 with a two HDD RAID0 system. It has three partitions:
1) C: System, 2) D: Recovery 3) Unnnamed.
It shipped with Vista Home and I upgrade to Win 7 Home. HDD1 was causing errors...the RAID0 was dying. I was getting many BSODs.I bought Acronis True Image Home 2012.I was NOT able to clone the entire disk as an image because of the BSODs.I was able to backup (sector by sector) the C: and D: partitions. I did not backup the unnamed partition.I was also able to have Win 7 backup save off the C: partition.I then replaced to the two hard drives (WD 640 GB) with two new hard drives (Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB) and reestablished the RAID0 with these new drives.First I used the Win 7 recovery CD and its backup to restore the C: partition. The restore was successful but it wouldn't boot. There was no MBR. Windows didn't ask about nor put a MBR back on the system.Next I used Acronis recovery CD and its backup to restore the C: partition. It did ask about a MBR, which I said to do. The restore was successful and when complete, it booted up to the Win 7 login.I logged in and checked things out.Everything seemed fine, my stuff was back. Until I tried Windows Update. If failed saying that the service isn't running.I checked, the server was running so its a false error report.
I found Fix It for Windows Update and it did stuff but no good. Windows Update still fails.I then got a clue that it won't run unless Windows thinks the software is genuine. So I ran the MS validation site. It reported that I was missing files and to fix that I needed to install Windows from a genuine DVD. Which I have.I ran the installer (in custom mode, it wouldn't install in express mode as the DVD was older version). The installation almost completed and I get a dialog box saying the Win 7 was not compatible with my hardware.I don't know what to try next. Of course I have compatable hardware, it was running on the old drives and running on the new drives with a broken Windows Update.I feel that I'm so close to being fully back up and I don't want to give in and start from scratch by install Windows on a wiped disk and then loading all the programs and data file one by one back onto the system.
I recently had to restore my computer after the hard drive crashed. I reinstalled windows 7 and office 2010, including outlook. Since then, nothing has run well. Outlook will not search and I cannot get the indexing to work. I have not been able to complete a windows update and the troubleshooting doesn't work either. In addition, iTunes was unable to load properly.
My laptop crashed the other day after a Windows update. To make a long story short it would not boot up. I tried several things to no avail. System restore disc did not work. At this point I thought the hard drive was fried. Finally I stuck the the Windows 7 companion disk and got the system to boot I can tell all my files are there somewhere due to amount of memory taking up on the hard drive. Anyways my main problem it is now asking for the product key although I have 29 days which unfortunately I cannot find. Laptop in question is a Lenovo G550. Where do I go from here? Do I have to purchase a new key? I've been using the laptop since and it seems to be working properly as far as i can tell.
I have tried all possible solutions suggested to get the Play Ready to update but they all fail..I am not able to see any satellite or DVT channels for the moment.
In Windows XP, if you try to update a driver and the OS can't find all of the driver files it will tell you which file is missing, and then give you the option to select the folder the file might be in.In Windows 7, if you try to update a driver and the OS can't find all of the driver files it halts with the message "The system cannot find the file specified" and the only option you get is to close the window.I was wondering if there is any to make Windows 7 work more like Windows XP in this regard. Perhaps a registry hack or some sort of modification? Basically I am looking for a way to make Windows 7 look for missing driver files instead of just giving up.
2. Tried downloading from Intels website--->Got error message saying my computer does not meet minimum specs for program to run, which is BS because my computer is very good and is only 1 year old.
First I know this has been asked a many times but no solutions seems to work for me. I have a bunch of stuff going wrong and all seems to related to each other. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. That is how the problem progressed:1. I was trying to enable Telnet service and found out that 'Turn Windows Features on/off' in Control panel > Programs and Features is a blank list.I checked on internet and i found out that it means my windows update wont be working as well so i check it:2. Windows update gives the error 80070002 and it does not check for updates.. Again check net and it said to run sfc/scannow in command prompt (as administrator). I did it. and it gives error 'Windows Resource Protection can't execute the command'.
I have tried everything. I have tried: msconfig.exe to enable/disable services and restarting and rechecking. Uninstalling my Avast Antivirus. Running MS Fixit toolI have checked disk check in advanced startup options. Deleted C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload' contents and recheck the Windows update facility. Nothing works. I dont have Windows CD coz my laptop came installed with windows.
I was away on a trip, so I let my parents use my laptop while I was gone. They say it updated, something, but afterwards froze, so they turned it off. Turns out it was several different updates, including a BIOS update. Everything else works fine except for my usb ports which no longer detect anything connected to them. The device manager gives me little yellow warning bubbles by Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller and Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller. It says code 19 error and the config info in the registry is missing or damaged. I have tried updating the drivers, uninstalling and letting it re-install, but it hasn't worked. I'm running on a HP Pavilion dv6-3013cl Entertainment notebook, Windows 7 (64bit).
After updating with KB2507938, his USB wireless mouse and keyboard stop working. Apparently his regular, wired keyboard works. Doing a System Restore fixes the problem, but after turning the computer off and then on, etc., the update reapplies itself.
i have a samsung np550p5c i kept getting popups of samsung updates and it did my head in so i updated them. they were about 7 updates and the ones i could remember were a bios, sound and graphics update.
when the updates were done it prompted me to restart which i did. when my laptop rebooted i got an error (ill post up a pic of it in a bit) now when i tried to change my brightness using the function keys they dont work

Ever since I removed some malware I cannot run a program that is vital to my job. It tries to do a software update (which it does periodically) and encounters this error: "Message 0x1047 in SUBVMCHK Another application is in the process of updating. Please wait while this update completes." I click ok and the program shuts down. I cannot uninstall the program (I get error 1060). Is there a registry key missing? Earliest system restore does not work.
I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.
A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
My windows update does not like to load! It takes a very long time and sometimes causes explorer to crash! When I checked, I had 92 updates to install. When I click download and install, it would freeze and stay there for a long time. I tried to use the Fix it application, however that gets stuck on "Checking Online for Updates" as well! What should I do? I also tried to update in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me.
I use iTunes because I have an ipod touch, iTunes wants me to update it before i will sync my ipod touch. It won't update it tells me to download only the update threw the software, I've done a google search and no one that posted a fix had one that worked, i've have this issue before and i tried to uninstall and reinstall itune and nothing worked.
I have an HP Dx7500 that run perfectly. Before making any change i made a checkpoint for future restore. Than i update my AHCI driver (Instead regular IDE) to "Intel ICH/10R SATA AHCI controller" and windows update can't run, no error.. just clicking and nothing move.I fix it for now with system restore.. but i want my hardware to be most updated.
My work programs require XP and supposedly will not function on windows 7 nor the XP mode of same. I need a new computer, most likely a laptop, so I can work while traveling. I can't buy XP anymore. Any suggestions other than a new job?
