View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my laptop. I run Windows 7 Professional 64bit on it. An hour and a half ago I shut down my computer and Windows installed an update, but I stuck around because I wanted my computer off and I know that the computer restarts itself after installing an update. The computer restarted itself and configured the update, but when I chose to shut down the computer it actually restarted itself. I've tried shutting it down several times, but every time it starts right back up. I've run a virus scan, the Power troubleshooter, disabled automatic restart upon System failure
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy computer went haywire last night, the explorer.exe keeps shutting down if i try to access My Computer and it is also not registering my second hard drive, it shows that it is there but the files are inaccessible. up until last night everything was working fine and i didnt have a single problem, on Wednesday night i put the computer to sleep and didn't touch it again until about 9pm Thursday night. when i turned on the computer it tried to recover on its own and it froze up, so i let it try and do its thing for about 20 min with no progress so i shut it off. i don't see why this problem would suddenly occur especially if nobody has even looked at the computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAny time I go to the windows start menu to shut off the PC, windows will shut off but leave the fans and LEDs (probably the hardware as well) on and running. I can of course just flick the power switch and it will shut off, and I can also turn the PC off manually by simply holding the power switch, but it would be nice if windows would just shut the computer off. I am fairly positive this isn't a hardware issue even though I did just get a new system as this issue was not happening until Windows updated to service pack 1. It may have been one of the other updated that went with it, but I think SP1 may be the culprit. System is as follows:AS Rock Extreme 4 Z77 i5 3570 Gigabyte GTX 670 16GB G-Skill RAM "F3-1600C9D-16GXM" M4 Corsair 256 GB SSD (Boot Drive)

View 6 Replies View RelatedI do that:
1. Uninstall driver
2. remove what left with driver sweeper
3. Reboot and try to install new driver BUT Windows 7 automatically find their stock driver for 7600GT and installs it, damn it.
Maybe I don't need to do that anymore?
So, my question is:
What are the proper way to update video card drivers in windows 7?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to perform these updates for a month or 2 now but I always get the same errors. I get Error Codes 80073701 and 800F081E (see attached)
Clicking on "get help with this error" is useless, as you'd expect from Microsoft. According to Microsoft these are "important updates".
All other updates install correctly. I dont really care too much for IE9, but I figure Windows 7 SP1 (for 64 bit machine) might have some importance for security.!
I did the Asus live update, soon as i hit ok, one of my usb slots stopped working but the other is working just fine. It makes the noise when you plug in something, but wont work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my wife's HP G62 laptop running Home Pro 7 has started having am intermittent keyboard. At first I thought it was the wireless USB keyboard/mouse she had plugged into the machine, but the same happens with just the built in keyboard (the mouse seems to function fine). The problem is that randomly the keyboard will stop working in applications and won't work again until a reboot. The keyboard seems to work fine in safe mode and actually works fine for typing in things like the run box in the start menu, but it will cause firefox and microsoft office to hang. I cannot seem to find what is triggering this condition (coming out of sleep mode, etc.), but it sometimes can be fast, other times it can take a day until it happens again.

I think I got rid of them, but I deleted a lot of stuff maybe I should not have in the process. Windows update no longer works. For a while, I was not even able to scan for updates, then I ran the fix it from the microsoft website and that let me scan, but when I try to install, I get this error message: Code 80246008 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. When I click on the link to get help with this error, it can't find any information on it.Anyways, when I go into control panel > administrative tools > services, Windows Update is not even in the list. How do I get it back? Do I have to reinstall windows?
Edit: I should also note I just tried to install the latest virus definitions for microsoft security essentials and I got error code 0x80240022. Says there may be a missing system file, an incorrect system setting, or a problem with a registry file.
I open a file sent to me in email, click enable editing, work on it for three hours, hitting save all the while, then go to email it back and the file is gone. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis may be difficult to troubleshoot because I have very few details about the computer in question. A friend called me because I am fairly good with basic computer problems. I'm not sure of the hardware specs, but it's a 2010 or 2011 model PC with Windows 7 installed. They did a Windows Update, and let it update just fine - they did not restart or shut down at all during the update. Once the update completed however, they can't open anything up.
Every time they try opening a program, they get an error message. Also, he mentioned that at first after the update, it wouldn't even boot up. He would get a message saying that he needs to restore to system defaults. Somehow, they got the computer to boot but it wont open any programs. How do you reset a Windows 7 computer to factory settings?
just curious if my system is still up to date which im really sure even tho i did a clean install of windows 7 professional 64bit. im pretty good at getting drivers but also looking to see if theres something missing whats the best driver update thats legit? driver genious?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS Studio MT 435 with a two HDD RAID0 system. It has three partitions:
1) C: System,
2) D: Recovery
3) Unnnamed.
It shipped with Vista Home and I upgrade to Win 7 Home. HDD1 was causing errors...the RAID0 was dying. I was getting many BSODs.I bought Acronis True Image Home 2012.I was NOT able to clone the entire disk as an image because of the BSODs.I was able to backup (sector by sector) the C: and D: partitions. I did not backup the unnamed partition.I was also able to have Win 7 backup save off the C: partition.I then replaced to the two hard drives (WD 640 GB) with two new hard drives (Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB) and reestablished the RAID0 with these new drives.First I used the Win 7 recovery CD and its backup to restore the C: partition. The restore was successful but it wouldn't boot. There was no MBR. Windows didn't ask about nor put a MBR back on the system.Next I used Acronis recovery CD and its backup to restore the C: partition. It did ask about a MBR, which I said to do. The restore was successful and when complete, it booted up to the Win 7 login.I logged in and checked things out.Everything seemed fine, my stuff was back. Until I tried Windows Update. If failed saying that the service isn't running.I checked, the server was running so its a false error report.
I found Fix It for Windows Update and it did stuff but no good. Windows Update still fails.I then got a clue that it won't run unless Windows thinks the software is genuine. So I ran the MS validation site. It reported that I was missing files and to fix that I needed to install Windows from a genuine DVD. Which I have.I ran the installer (in custom mode, it wouldn't install in express mode as the DVD was older version). The installation almost completed and I get a dialog box saying the Win 7 was not compatible with my hardware.I don't know what to try next. Of course I have compatable hardware, it was running on the old drives and running on the new drives with a broken Windows Update.I feel that I'm so close to being fully back up and I don't want to give in and start from scratch by install Windows on a wiped disk and then loading all the programs and data file one by one back onto the system.
I use Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. Firefox is filled with privacy tools including Privoxy, Ghostery and Disconnect. My other browsers do no have anything. I use Windows firewall, Avast Free and Full version of Malwarebytes with malicious web-site blocking turned off. I also use Spyware Blaster. I use Windows 7. I am behind Cisco router.
Problem: When I use facebook.com either https or http, after a certain period of times or page visits, the facebook stops loading and "hangs" on a page not going back or forward. I either have to wait, or close it and open another browser. This has been going on for quite some time. I tried clearing everything with CCleaner, flushed DNS, Etc. When I ping, I get all 4 responses.
I recently had to restore my computer after the hard drive crashed. I reinstalled windows 7 and office 2010, including outlook. Since then, nothing has run well. Outlook will not search and I cannot get the indexing to work. I have not been able to complete a windows update and the troubleshooting doesn't work either. In addition, iTunes was unable to load properly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop crashed the other day after a Windows update. To make a long story short it would not boot up. I tried several things to no avail. System restore disc did not work. At this point I thought the hard drive was fried. Finally I stuck the the Windows 7 companion disk and got the system to boot I can tell all my files are there somewhere due to amount of memory taking up on the hard drive. Anyways my main problem it is now asking for the product key although I have 29 days which unfortunately I cannot find. Laptop in question is a Lenovo G550. Where do I go from here? Do I have to purchase a new key? I've been using the laptop since and it seems to be working properly as far as i can tell.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP, if you try to update a driver and the OS can't find all of the driver files it will tell you which file is missing, and then give you the option to select the folder the file might be in.In Windows 7, if you try to update a driver and the OS can't find all of the driver files it halts with the message "The system cannot find the file specified" and the only option you get is to close the window.I was wondering if there is any to make Windows 7 work more like Windows XP in this regard. Perhaps a registry hack or some sort of modification? Basically I am looking for a way to make Windows 7 look for missing driver files instead of just giving up.
- How it looks in Windows XP
Installed Windows 7--->USB ports do not work.
1. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling them...no good
2. Tried downloading from Intels website--->Got error message saying my computer does not meet minimum specs for program to run, which is BS because my computer is very good and is only 1 year old.
First I know this has been asked a many times but no solutions seems to work for me. I have a bunch of stuff going wrong and all seems to related to each other. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. That is how the problem progressed:1. I was trying to enable Telnet service and found out that 'Turn Windows Features on/off' in Control panel > Programs and Features is a blank list.I checked on internet and i found out that it means my windows update wont be working as well so i check it:2. Windows update gives the error 80070002 and it does not check for updates.. Again check net and it said to run sfc/scannow in command prompt (as administrator). I did it. and it gives error 'Windows Resource Protection can't execute the command'.
I have tried everything. I have tried: msconfig.exe to enable/disable services and restarting and rechecking. Uninstalling my Avast Antivirus. Running MS Fixit toolI have checked disk check in advanced startup options. Deleted C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload' contents and recheck the Windows update facility. Nothing works. I dont have Windows CD coz my laptop came installed with windows.
