Keys On Keyboard Work For Few Seconds, Then Stop, While Being Held Down?
Sep 23, 2012
I am having problems with my keyboard where I'll hold down a key (either in a game, or other program) and it'll work for a few seconds, and then suddenly stop as I am still holding the key down. For instance, in any of my games, if I want the character to run a certain direction I hold the key down, and the character stops like I released the key, which I haven't.I have tried reintstalling the driver, updating it, changing USB ports for the receiver(its a wireless Keyboard and Mouse)
Recently my wife's HP G62 laptop running Home Pro 7 has started having am intermittent keyboard. At first I thought it was the wireless USB keyboard/mouse she had plugged into the machine, but the same happens with just the built in keyboard (the mouse seems to function fine). The problem is that randomly the keyboard will stop working in applications and won't work again until a reboot. The keyboard seems to work fine in safe mode and actually works fine for typing in things like the run box in the start menu, but it will cause firefox and microsoft office to hang. I cannot seem to find what is triggering this condition (coming out of sleep mode, etc.), but it sometimes can be fast, other times it can take a day until it happens again.
My Grandchildren were playing with the keyboard on my HP lap top (windows 7) and during their manic pressing of the keys within 10 seconds had managed to turn the screen upside down, everything is there only the screen is affected.
when browsing, the browsers (chrome and ie9) freeses frequently a few secs. it doesn't repond on keyboard or touchpad actions: typing google autofill starts to auto fill, gives no extra characters when i type for a few sec and then gives the letters that a had typed (not all)the same with the backspace key. while typing this there's frequently a lag between typing and appearance of characters.pointer hoovering always works but sometimes (frequently it takes a few seconds to change from pointer to "link-hand" in another browser tab a Internet film is running without interruptions.often when i try to scroll with to fingers touchpad, the scrolling pointer appears but scrolling happens after a few seconds.
other programs like write: no problem anti virus and malware finds nothing
core temp is normal; memtest and hdd test are normal.in task manager performance monitor 2 of 4 ram is used, the overall cpu use is 7% but every approx 10secs the monitor stops for a few seconds, then the cpu use goes to 100% for half a second and the monitor runs again.in safe mode everything seems ok?
So my keyboard and mouse are completely usable in the bios and during boot, but once the windows login screen opens up, there is a 30+ second delay before the keyboard and mouse become active. This doesn't appear to be a freeze or lag of any type, just like the keyboard and mouse hasn't been recognized yet. I have a printer and several external drives connected to my computer's USB ports, so I tried unplugging everything but the keyboard and mouse. The time goes down to about 5 seconds, however, the last few times I've tried, there was about a 10 second wait for the mouse to work after the keyboard worked. With only the mouse and keyboard plugged in, I feel this must be either 1) an issue with drivers loading or 2) a specific issue with my USB drivers. Here's what I've done so far to try and troubleshoot. Not sure what to do next.Used google (couldn't find anything that looked related enough to try)Unplugged everything but keyboard and mouse from USB ports - Decreased lag time to 5-15 secondsenabled boot logging, checked file for drivers not loading (attached)Checked bios for legacy USB enabled (it was)Double checked AV software (only MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes installed, malwarebytes does not run any processes unless I start it up)Having multiple USB devices plugged in upon boot should not delay the usability of my keyboard and mouse.
I have exchanged two keys on my laptop keyboard .... (Windows 7)" was exchanged with the @ ........ as I was used to using a UK keyboard. I am passing that laptop to my daughter, as I have a new one. I set the keyboard back from UK English to English Australia. but it doesn't seem to have changed the keys.
I've an Acer Revo running Windows 7 as my HTPC.Everytime I type certain keys on my wired Acer keyboard it displays numbers instead of letters or it displays the wrong letter. This happens for certain keys e.g. when I press 'u' I get '4' and so on. Why is this happening? I understand you press certain function keys together it can change the keyboard settings. Is this true and how do I turn it off?I know it's not the computer as I normally used a remote connection to access the PC and typing this way works fine. I only have this problem when I use the computer directly with its wired keyboard.
since the day i have windows 7, i started to notice sometimes my microsoft ergonomic keyboard 4000 v1.0 right side keypads close to ``enter key`` wont work properly. for example the question mark turns into. but everytime when i restart the computer, problem solved. i tested out with my other computers with windows xp for a few days, no issues at all.
I have a Dell Vostro 1050 with 2Gb RAM and 320 HDD space. i bought this laptop new and it worked for just one day and the following day when i started it in the morning after like 5 minutes, nothing was responding. i mean the curse wasn't moving, the key board keys not working and nothing was responding till when i had to long press the power button and turned it off. Turning it back on it worked for the next 30 minutes, then it froze again. i have tried changing the RAM chips and Used Different HDD's but all in vain.
I’m having some problems with keys sticking with windows 7 while playing games .
While in-game I have found that some keys "stick", the keys are NOT physically sticking on the keyboard but the effect is the same.
The effect is most prominent in 1st person shooters. When running around the keys will seem to stick. When letting go of a key (e.g. WASD, arrow keys, Ctrl and other common command keys) it is as though the key is still depressed for another 2ish seconds.
I first noticed this in old games such as Original Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena (yes I am aware how sad it is to still be playing these games) but with further investigation I have similar problems with more modern games such as WarHammer 40,000 Dawn of War (plus expansions) although this seems only to be with command keys such as the Ctrl key.
I originally noticed this with the windows 7 RC version but assumed this was a bug. Since I have now upgraded to the released Windows 7 PRO I still find the same problems....
Anyone else discovered these problems?
The keys are NOT physically sticking on the keyboard
I have tried using another keyboard
and since writing this I have noticed the problem with the Ctrl key is apparent in FireFox aswel but I am unsure if this is a problem with other web browsers.
Some keys on my keyboard are not responding to actions. The keys that I know are still working are `,1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,-,=,q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i,o,p,[,],,s,h,;,',x,c,b,m,,,',the Space bar, backspace, and the Caps lock. I'm using On-Screen Keyboard to type this.
All function keys (1st row on keyboard), several number keys (6, 8, 9 on the 2nd row) and the left Shift key do not response; I checked keyboard driver is updated, connection good; I tried troubleshoot hardware and devices but problem not fixed, seems nothing detected I tried System Restore, but the blue screen saying files and settings being restored stayed for an hour without an end, so I had to stop it?
I cannot use the CTRL and W keys on my keyboard. I have gone through all of the regular uninstall the keyboard and all associated drivers with the computer and none of it has worked. I am using the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000.The batteries have also been changed with new ones and that did not fix it. I have also done a Windows Restore to a previous time when it did work and that did not help. I have no other keyboards to test with at this time either.
The ALT Keys on my USB Keyboard used to work perfectly fine until around the 1st. I'm unsure of what caused this issue. The computer I'm using is a laptop and both of the ALT keys on the laptop work perfectly fine. The USB Keyboard I have has ALT keys but those don't function at all. They used to, but not anymore.I've tried checking and unchecking sticky keys, looking at the On-Screen Keyboard, uninstalling, rolling back, and updating drivers... full system restores to middle of last month which is about a week before I suspected it stopped working.
I have a 32 bit laptop and did a clean install upgrading to 64 bit. The FN keys no longer work and to print @ I now have to press shift and 2 instead of shift and @.Can anyone help please? I have tried the Samsung Support site but cannot find a driver for the NP-X22 laptop.
I was randomly playing a game, then all of a sudden my keyboard started typing weirdly. Eg. when i type a, e appears and when i type e, L appears. I went on control panel and the keyboard was still set to "English (United States) - US" and the language was still set to English. I tried pressing Ctrl + Shift and that didn't help either, no matter how many times i pressed it.
I just had to do a reinstall of my Window's 7 and since have had a problem with 2 keys on my keyboard. When I use the apostrophe key, nothing happens, but when I type something after, it appears. It's no big deal really, but I'm rather anal and it just bugs me when something isn't working right.
I have used search here at SF and gone through the tutorials, but can't find anything that quite matches. I tried to update driver's but the little box on the screen tells me driver's are up to date. I checked Device Manager and it doesn't indicate any problem. I checked Keyboard in Control Panel and it says the device is working properly.
the only keys that do work are the three volume keys. Also I have a media center remote that came with my computer that does work for all the functions including play/pause. Can anyone help me fix the media keys on my keyboard?
i have an interesting problem. my keyboard's number keys on the top row sometimes do not work except for the 5 and 6 key. so i unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it worked!... for all of 2 minutes.
The @ and " keys on my keyboard are the wrong way round, in other words. when I type @ I get " and when I type " I get @. How can I correct this, to get the proper characters with the " and @ keys? I have tried every thing for XP, that has been Previously posted. but it does not work for windows 7
I just bought a new Saitek Eclipse III keyboard. There is no software to install or anything and runs of windows defaults. However, none of the normal alphabet keys or number keys work on windows 7. Although the multi-media keys do work on the keyboard.Yet, the keyboard work perfectly on my windows XP pc.
I admittedly know nothing about computers. My keyboard seems to maybe be in some weird settings where it wont type, will freeze up or certain letters are pulling up certain screens. Like hitting enter make the tools menu drop down or something makes the menu bar with file, edit and such open and the file tab highlights and flashes and freezes every thing and I have to hit esc or enter to unfreeze it, I cant type in the search bar online either, it takes one letter and redirects me to a webpage previously viewed with that letter and wont let me type anything. And also my number one key wont work at all.
i use a logitech keyboad k260 , what i don't like about this keyboard is the
1) standby key
2) the calculator key
i would love to disable at least the standby key or remap it
could i do it ? is SetPoint 6.30 the only solution ? 25mb ... really i don't like to install it , if i can use another software and i did not find a cleaner for setpoint , i mean i want to install only the necessary drivers on my Windows 7 machine
I have a strange problem and I can't find solution on internet. My 2 years old daughter was watching cartoons on my Laptop, she got excited and start hitting buttons on the keyboard. I don't know what happened she some how activated an option that I don't know how to turn off. The main keyboard keys are not working instead it use the extra keys arrows, symbols etcI have turned off the computer, took off battery, search in control panel for option, but I am unable to make main keys to work.
I have an old keyboard but I like it and I don't want to change it. This is it: Trust.com - Multimedia Keyboard KB-2100EI want to remap the keys under the scroll to do something else. They now have: Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V on them. I want to put another key combination to each one.I tried hotkeyp but that only replaces ctrl+v ( the current combination in place ) etc with the new combination and I can't use ctrl+v anymore. I need those hotkeys to be available all the time, so to start and stop hotkeyp is not an option.
