View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my laptop crashed beyond repair, and has had to be rebuilt. It now operates on Windows 7.Luckily I had backed up some important files onto a portable external Lacie Hardrive. I now need to return some of the files back to the laptop so that I can use them..but I can't seem to find a way to do it!! I suppose I'm just being 'thick'..but can anyone tell me how to do it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a partition and installed XP on it and the game installs correctly (installation wouldn't even start on Win7) and it runs. However, the drivers I got when I bought the laptop are only compatible with Win7 (video drivers, wifi/lan drivers, the audio driver works fine on XP however).Because of this driver problem, I have no graphics driver to run the game (I know it works because I can start the game and hear the audio). I also couldn't connect to the internet to find and update drivers on that specific machine.
So I searched for them on another computer but after hours of searching, downloading and transferring the files to my Acer, failed to find any compatible with XP.The Acer website which I downloaded these drivers from mentions they work on XP in the description but they wouldn't install, giving the error 'not support on this operating system' or similar.FYI the hardware for the drivers I needed were: - Lite-on Wireless LAN 3rd WiFi BGN Atheros HB97 (OR Broadcom LAN BCM57780 for ethernet connection)- Intel VGA Chip UMAHas

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path. The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject. How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu on my computer a few months ago and created another partition for it on my 1TB hard drive. I didn't really care for Ubuntu so I decided to delete the partition it was on. That might have been a mistake. Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.
There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please? I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.

The computer I'm having a problem on is a HP G6- 635 DX Windows 7 x64. About a week ago I decided to disable a few startup items because my computer took too long to load up. I think I disabled something that I shouldnt have because the next time I restarted I had gotten stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. After I couldnt fix that problem I decided to just use the System Recovery option, so I popped out my hard drive and put it into an HDD enclosure and backed up my music/video files onto my other computer (Windows Vista Home Premium). When I plugged my hard drive back into the laptop I got the "bootmgr is missing" screen. I've tried all the command prompt steps to try and fix the bootmgr, they arent working but I think thats because my computer is automatically booting from the C: drive (which has no files in it and is about 200mb in size), and my D: drive is 285 gb and has all of the folders that used to be in the C: drive (Program Files, Users, Windows etc). Theres also another drive titled "Recovery" with the size of 13 gb

I have Easeus Partition Manager bootable by CD & an HDD enclosure, thats how I am able to see the files. So basically what I;m asking is, is there a way that I can get my computer to boot from the D: drive OR what files should I move from the D: to C: drive that will make my computer boot and finish the System Recovery?
I don't have Windows 7 yet, but I'm just about to install it, but I figure it may be safe to do a back up first. I'm about to do an upgrade from Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. I did find these recommendations:"An image backup of your hard drive offers an easy, dependable way to do just that, since it restores everything on the hard drive: Windows, applications, data, and even the Master Boot Record. To create one, you'll need an external hard drive, and an image backup program.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used the search function and found a lot about changing icons of folders. I could not find anything about how to get back the original icons.
For some reason one external drive "lost" it's icon and you can see a placeholder only.
I mean it is not the end of the world..... but almost
Any ideas?
I was working with two drives and mixed them up on a format. What is on the drive isn't essential, but it would be nice to see what was lost, so I can go from there. Can anyone recommend a way to get it back? It just happened and I haven't put anything else on the drive since it happened. Hit Quick Format, and stopped the formatting about 10 seconds into it, sucks
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been running happily with an All in One Medion desk top, which I have modified slightly. It is really a notebook chip based system, only two sata outputs, but it does have a touchscreen and digital tuner. It is a 2.3Ghz Pentium dual core. 4 GB mem and 1.5 TB over two drives.
I pulled the DVD drive out of sata 2 port and fitted it in an external housing on a USB port. Then I wired the sata 2 port out via an eSata socket to a sata HDD docking station.
I have been running six months with two versions of Win 7 Home premium 64bit in dual boot mode with no probs. Last week I decided to replace the 64 bit with a 32 bit version so as to run some older programs.
So I formatted the external 1TB drive and loaded win 7 32x from the original disks. Took while with all the updates and SP1.
While doing this, I had no problem with the DVD drive but, as soon as I was up and running, the DVD drive stopped reading disks. Swap boot back into Windows 7 64 bit and it is fine, boot from Windows 7 32 bit and it is a dodo. It recognises the drive ID but will not open a file or boot from a bootable disk. I have checked for out of date or missing drivers but nothing shows.
I suspect I have a protocol problem, Not sure. It appears to be using a new Windows 7 sp1 driver. Or maybe something wrong in Global settings.
My dell back up (D drive) keeps popping up saying its full after installing windows 7.Any ideas why this would be?Is there anything I can delete? It has dell, perf logs, program files, sources, tools, users and windows
