View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm having some trouble with my screen resolution . i set it at (800x600) cause i'm using a 51 inch big screen hd tv. it go's full screen but then for no reason it puts the bars back on the sides of the screen. i checked and it still reads (800x600) and i can't get it to change back to full screen until i reboot. works fine in vista . i'm not seeing anything about drivers failing so i'm not sure what's happening.
View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently my wife caught a virus on her computer (HP touchsmart windows 7 home premium). Your typical virus program that sends hundreds of pop up screens and says click this for full removal, blah blah blah. Anyways I used malwarebytes to see if the program could be removed, malwarebytes found 5 problems and I removed them. Afterward I noticed that there were no icons on the screen, I tried to bring up task manager and the computer rebooted. once the computer rebooted, there was a black screen with "no operating system found".
I tried the "repair your computer" option on the Windows 7 disk, but it was not able to repair the problem automatically, I also tried some manual command scan prompts that I found on the net. None of this has worked so far.
I figured that I would take the hdd out of her computer and dock it to another computer. The hard drive connected fine, but when I tried to open it there was nothing in there. I tried to make sure that all files were not hidden (they weren't). Funny thing is when I click on properties for the drive it shows that the drive is 2/3rds full but I can't see any files or information when I try to search the drive. I also just tried copying the hard drive to another harddrive and it was copying files but once I opened the new location, it was still empty (even thought the folder said in properties 84 gigs).
Is there something that I am missing, I would like to retrieve all of her documents, pictures etc. then I could reformat that drive and re-install windows if I can not get it to boot back up correctly.
I have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

I didn't really care for Ubuntu so I decided to delete the partition it was on. That might have been a mistake. Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.
There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please? I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.

I don't have Windows 7 yet, but I'm just about to install it, but I figure it may be safe to do a back up first. I'm about to do an upgrade from Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. I also have 2x1Tb drives for storing everything else.The combined total of all the visible folders in the main directory of my C drive is 77Gb (including the Windows folder) but my system tells me that I have only 1.6Gbof free space. This is causing a lot of problems with Photoshop, AE etc.

A while ago I accidentally tried to create a recovery in my recovery drive, which was bigger than the drive has allocated to it. So it maxed out the drive but couldn't complete the recovery file. So I tried deleting it, but the file kept re-appearing and re-filling my drive. So I tried copying the original recovery folder that came with the original install to my desktop and then re-formatting the drive. I haven't restarted the computer yet but as of now the drive is clear. Problem is, when I went to copy that folder back to the D drive, it is giving me an error when I try to open it. What files were in that folder, and how can I get them back?

I think at one time I tried to do this but did not know how. How do I do make a back up? Does it go on a disk ? Can you give me detail step by step on how to do? I don't even know what a back up is . I have windows 7 laptop and in the computer section it shows disk f disk c and lenova disk d and it is in red . It shows 7.81 mb free space of 28.9 gb. When I start my computer this comes up and says my space is full and shows the recycle bin but it is empty. Don't know much about computers and don't know what that disk is for . Suddenly I found on one day that my user folder became 25GB without any reason. When looking into it and calculated all subfolders it even did not come to 1GB.So the C drive is almost full and I have no idea for the reason.

However, since then, I have removed 2 of the disks but I want to restore just one of the drives where the OS was installed (these are physical HDD= 3). Windows restore CD does not let me restore just one drive since the image is for all 3.Is there any way that I can force windows 7 to restore just one of the drives from the the full image with 3 drives? Unfortunately, the drives that I removed already have new data in another PC and pretty big (2T each). I don't to buy 2 drives just to install the OS image.

After a week, I suddenly noticed that it is now almost full, with only 1.46G free. When I open the drive, I only see recovery folder (16KB) and HPSF_rep text document (4KB). When I viewed protected program files in that drive, I saw a lot of files which I did not dare to modify or anything.What should I do? What will happen if D: becomes full?

Thought that this would delete the all of the old files. And, indeed, when I search for known file names, the search comes up empty.
However, the properties of the disk show the same amount of disk space used as before the install.
How can I remove these "ghost" files?
I've got a system with an 100 gig C Drive. There are very few programs/files on it, with a few exceptions such as Photoshop and some movie downloads. The drive should have enormous storage capacity. But, it lists that it is nearly completely full, and I have only a few dozen megabytes of storage space left!
The totality of programs on my computer totals at a little more than 8 gigs, and my download data is surely less. So then, where the hell is all this data coming from?, how can I view this mystery ~85 gigs of used storage, and what can I do to get rid of it / free up my C Drive?
Can you recommend a Windows 7 compatible encryption program that will encrypt the whole hard drive? I checked the true-crypt website, but Windows 7 is not listed as supported yet. I'm currently using RC1 and when I get my RTM copies they will be Home Premium (so not Bitlocker).

I cleaned out the drive, did a firmware upgrade, changed the bios to ACHI. On a restart the drive reported correctly, initially & after I had transferred files onto it.While running a flight sim loaded onto the drive I got a message that the drive was full, but it is nowhere near full in fact.
